Script – Version Two
Scene One - INT – Day
1. SOUND: Intro music for the news
2. NEWS REPORTER: Today, we are celebrating the 50th
anniversary to the end of the apocalypse. It’s been 50
years today since Marcus Jones, a 48-year-old scientist
at the time, discovered the vaccination. He died at the
age of 93 a little over 5 years ago but he will be
remembered for many years to come. Never heard before
tape recordings that were found during the clean up of
the aftermath of the apocalypse. They have been edited
into short Thirty-minute sectors and will be played
every weekday at 6.30pm over a four-week period, and
maybe, these tapes will allow us to get a better
insight of what happened all those years ago.
Scene Two – EXT- wooded area - Day
3. SOUND: Muffling mic sound
4. MATT: Hey, HEY, Dan, I think it’s working
5. DAN: oh really...I don’t care
6. MATT: Yes, you do
7. DAN: No, I care more about surviving this thing
Page 2 Script Jessica Owen
1. MATT: Yeah, but now we can record our journey and we
can be like proper famous when this is over
2. DAN:(LAUGHS) You’re an idiot
3. MATT: What, it’s a good idea.
4. DAN: (still slightly laughing) Come on, we need to keep
moving.
5. SOUND: Footsteps through a wooded area, you can hear
sticks snapping and other atmospheric sounds
6. MATT: Right, we are currently heading South I think, or
is this West, I don’t really know, we are just walking
through this massive forest because Dan thought it
would be safer than walking on the streets-
7. DAN: What are you doing?...
8. MATT: I’m commentating our journey… anyway, I’m Matt by
the way, I’m 22 and I used to be an engineer before the
end of the world began. I’m sure its been about 8
months, maybe more, since it all started.
9. DAN:(OFF MIKE) Its been almost a year now, and this is
not even a forest, its just a few trees, it’s the
quickest way to the shop
10. MATT: Wait, does this mean I’m 23? wow…anyway, that
was Dan, he might be like 28 or something now, he used
to be a… erm… I actually don’t know
Page 3 Script Jessica Owen
(raised voice) Dan, what did you do for a living before
this happened?
1. DAN:(angrily) Will you shut up, you’re gonna attract
them, and you don’t need to know what I done for a
living.
2. MATT: will you just tell me, I bet its something proper
badass
3. DAN: too bad you’ll never know
4. MATT: If I guess it will you tell me if I’m right?
5. DAN: Yes
6. MATT: promise me
7. DAN: Yes, alright, I promise. Turn that thing off now
for a bit anyway, we got work to do. We have to raid
this shop to see if there’s any food we can eat.
8. MATT: Fine.
9. SOUND: muffled mic sound
10. SOUND: footsteps on pavement for a few seconds
11. DAN: The doors chained, I’m gonna have to break it,
keep an eye out, don’t want any surprises
12. SOUND: chain being hit with something else metal
multiple times
Page 4 Script Jessica Owen
1. SOUND: hear the chain falling to the floor
2. MATT: Can you be any louder?
3. DAN: Oh shut up Matt
4. SOUND: Door creaking open
5. SOUND: slow footsteps on hard floor.
6. SOUND: the groan of the undead
7. DAN: okay, here we go
8. SOUND: Multiple stabbing and slicing effects
9. SOUND: Louder sound of the undead signalling that one
is nearby
10. MATT: ahhh
11. SOUND: gun shots followed by silence
12. SOUND: breath of relieve from both Matt and Dan
13. DAN: you need to be more careful Matt
14. MATT: Sorry, I’ll be more careful…
15. DAN: That could’ve ended completely differently
16. MATT: I know…
Page 5 Script Jessica Owen
1. DAN: We can’t just waste bullets like that, we’ve
hardly got any, we need to keep them for emergencies.
2. MATT: Yeah I know I’m sorry man, I said I’ll be more
careful
3. DAN: Okay, good, don’t let it happen again.
4. MATT: It won’t…
I’m gonna go look for some batteries
5. DAN: Batteries?
6. MATT: yeah for my tape recorder
7. DAN: (slightly laughing) seriously…
Hey, is that thing still on? I can see the red light
flashing.
8. MATT: fine, I’ll turn it off
9. DAN: Good
10. SOUND: ruffle of mic indicating it’s been switched
off.
