Descriptive Essay About Outsiders
The name's Johnny, I'm part of a very close family. This family is not by blood though, my blood
family knows I exist, they just wish they didn't. My mom is an angry drunk, and my dad beats me
with no provocation. My other family, or friends I guess, are pretty nice. They're greasers, and I am
too. I'm not as tough or mean looking as the other greasers, but I get along okay. It's strange, rather
than picking on me, the gang (my substitute family) protects me. I guess I'm like the pet/kid brother
of the group, or maybe they just don't want me to make a fuss, but I get pretty annoying to them
sometimes. There's another kid, he's a little younger than me, and we get along. His name's
Ponyboy, but even he looks tougher than me. We ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I kept running, I could hear him yelling down the street at me, but I refused to look back. Tears were
streaming down my face, my chin itched from them drying, I was running out of breath so I stopped
and leaned against a blue cement wall, it was cold and relaxing. 'This is what home is supposed to
feel like, comforting' I thought as I started to dry my eyes.
An hour or so had gone by until I realized, " I need to run away." I mumbled as I started walking
back towards 'the shack of misery'. My feet had started to get the feeling back in them, I was
walking faster now. I was getting more and more excited about what I was about to do, so excited I
shouted, "I'm going to be free!" as I leapt into the air. As I walked up to the house I had just been
shooed out of, I decided it would be best to sneak in through my bedroom window. I tried my best to
put my feet down as slowly as possible so that the dry grass beneath them wouldn't alert anybody
that's home. I started forming a plan so that I can avoid as many problems as possible. " Okay, sneak
through window, grab bag, put some of your food stash in it, then get out." I whispered to myself. I
put my hands on the windowsill and pushed my body up, the metal bar that holds the screen sank
into my hands, I kept myself from exclaiming a few cuss words. I lifted my knee onto the sill and
pushed the rest of my body through the window. I raced across the floor as quiet, but quick as I

Speech On Silence In Life
Do you ever consider being in silence for a while, when you feel upset about your life? Sometimes I
feel that way. You know even after everything goes well still there comes a moment when we look
for peace in our life. We look for a quiet place where we can sit and think alone. It's a feel–good way
to spend some time with your soul only, to know our feelings a little more deeply. It helps us to Let
go our deepest regrets. But often we struggle with it a lot. We skip that one because we fear the
aloneness. Undoubtedly loneliness is not good. But it often requires in our life. In those moments,

Writing For Our English Class
Some Clamor Louder
"Life is a small, spinning oyster, and it is one that I do not wish to eat." Emily's proclamations often
situate themselves between the abstruse and the overwrought, and tonight, at this booth, in this sleek
little Asian–fusion restaurant, she has welded both worlds. "Em," I sigh, "there's more on the menu
than just seafood." "Well, maybe I don't want any of it. Maybe I want to starve." "Fine, then starve."
In the eleventh grade, Emily presented an original poem for our English class––not to be graded, but
out of creative expression. Before she began, she held her notebook page in front of us and fanned it
around the room. Her words appeared as sharp streaks of red on an otherwise pale piece of paper. "I
wanted to make it look like blood," she prefaced, to which a few students sneered. I shot a glance at
Ms. Ward, who was not doing a good job hiding her unease; one of her hands was prodding at her
temple, a nervous habit that I had come to notice. Emily cleared her throat.
"In the South Pacific, I dream of beaches I dream of leeches sucking my skin. Sometimes I wish
they would suck me dry and other times I want to go home. In the Mid–Atlantic, I raise my hand, I
wait politely to be called. I'm never called, I'm never called. My mom says, one day, it will work; I
sneak Prozac from her purse. For now, I sit, I wait, I wish, for what, you ask? I'll tell you now. I
want to ride the greatest tide into the darkest pits of hell, I want to never want again, that

Descriptive Essay
It was a busy day at Starbucks, where I worked as a barista. The line was backed up almost out the
door. I saw a vaguely familiar woman with wavy brunette locks and a waifish figure enter the
coffeeshop. Beside her was a man who looked to be in his mid–50's. He led her to an armchair in the
corner and got in line. I snuck glances at her out of the corner of my eye while I made one of the
drinks, trying to figure out why I recognized her wide brown eyes. But I shook off the thought and
focused on the task in front of me.
Eventually, the man who had entered with the mysterious, brown–eyed woman was at the front of
the line and I was taking his order. He requested a tall mocha latte with a shot of espresso.
"What's the name?" I asked.
"Cathie. C–A–T–H–I–E," he answered.
That's when it clicked. The unconventional spelling. The familiarity of the woman he'd walked in
with. It couldn't be, could it? But I glanced over at the woman in the armchair, and sure enough, I
realized why she'd looked so familiar.
"Right away, sir," I answered, trying not to show that I was trembling deep inside at the prospect of
making my favorite actress a cup of coffee.
Here's what I knew. We both were born in Houston, but had been moved to different places by our
families, only to return there in our adulthood. But I also knew that Houston was a big city, and the
odds of running into Cathie Winters, let alone making her coffee weren't that great. I guess it was
my lucky day. I quickly prepared the

Hills Like White Elephants And Jig's Relationship
6.What is the nature of their relationship? Use examples from the text to justify your response. The
two characters, the short story "Hills like White Elephants" by Ernest Hemingway is centred around
can be perceived to be close to one another, in some form. This can be inferred from the passage
"'It's really an awfully simple operation, Jig,' the man said. 'It's not really an operation at all.'" where
the two talk of the operation used to induce a miscarriage, a topic that tends to only be breached
between trusted individuals; although this excerpt does not determine the nature of their
relationship. However, in tandem with "'And if I do it you'll be happy and things will be like they
were and you'll love me?'", it is more likely that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The style of writing forgoes in–depth characters and background knowledge. However, Jig shows
more emotional connections than the unnamed man in the story. Therefore compelling me to
sympathize more with Jig, over the man. Evidence shows that Jig may wish to keep the baby she is
carrying and is only going through with the mentioned abortion in order to please the man, shown in
the exert "'That's the only thing that bothers us. It's the only thing that's made us unhappy.'... 'So
have I,' said the girl. 'And afterwards they were all so happy.'" along with "'I know. But if I do it,
then it will be nice again if I say things are like white elephants, and you'll like it?'". Jig also
displays a subtle defiance to the man, which proves that there may be more problems than the story
depicts. For example "'I've never seen one,' the man drank his beer. 'No, you wouldn't have.'" My
sympathy with Jig is strongly cemented by the sentence "'I feel fine,' she said. 'There's nothing
wrong with me. I feel fine.'" where Jig closes the story with a more sarcastic response to being well,
making me believe that the girl has hit a limit to her willingness to please the

Professional Stress Research Paper
Stressors Related to My Professional Life In my work place setting, I work for a agency who works
with families with children that are autistic or have behavioral problems. Moreover, with my job
being an agency there are significant amount of flaws within this organization. Agencies in general
seem to have many flaws. Furthermore, I experience a few stressors that effect me daily. One
stressor that I experience is having to go to weekly supervision every Friday without pay. This is a
stressor for me because my job location is not as close to my house, granted about 25 minutes from
my home. So, the stress for me is driving all the way to my job location just to speak on actions of
my client that are consistent each week. Other jobs that I have applied to previously compensate
their workers for supervision weekly or give the option to have phone conferences about our clients.
Secondly, this particular job I am considered a independent contractor. Independent contractor
means there is no taxes taken out of each check I receive each week. This is a stressor because
although I may save money with each check by the end of the year it seems I owe so much. This is
stressful because even though I am always mindful of my money, it still is not enough. Also, I have
to do paperwork on my own time ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

as though I have not been in a relationship for so long, adjusting is becoming mentally exhausting.
Thirdly, my sister is getting married in the summer and I am the maid of honor. This is a stressor
because the maid of honor has so many responsibilities. Furthermore, having to deal with a bride in

Hills Like White Elephants By Ernest Hemmingway
"Hills Like White Elephants" By Ernest Hemmingway is an interesting piece that consists entirely
of an odd conversation between two people sitting at a train station in Spain, having drinks while
they wait on their ride. The couple do not have names, just "The American" and "The Girl" who is
also called "Jig" a time or two by The American. Hemmingway uses these characters and their
actions along with the setting and symbolism to paint a beautiful picture of an untruthful
relationship and a secretive "Operation" that brings out the true feelings between an unknown
couple. The point of view of this piece is told from the third person. Almost third person limited as
we never get to hear the actual thoughts of any of the characters, making both of them rather
unreliable as we never will know for certain the true intentions either one of them has. At the
beginning of the story, the conversation between these two people seems very strange. Each of them
are speaking but it is clear that neither are truly listening to what the other is saying making it
obvious that each has something much bigger on their mind that they know they must address but
neither are yet comfortable with bringing up the topic. This is initially what I figured the hills
symbolized when that girl compares them to white elephants. There is definitely an elephant in the
room. A Major problem that must be given attention despite the extreme discomfort it may bring,
but the two are not yet comfortable to discuss

Personal Narrative Essay : Living Abroad Is A Dream Come...
Living abroad is a dream come true, but it wasn't easy.Being in a land of opportunities, it was hard
finding a job that would hire inexperienced people. I started working as a live–in cook on a senior
home care where my uncle works. I quit after few weeks of working and was hired as a cashier at a
souvenir shop in Downtown Las Vegas. Everything was going well. But after three years of
working, I got fed up by how they treat and manage their employees. I looked and applied for a new
job, but to no avail, I wasn't lucky enough. I spend my time babysitting my cousins to pay my bills. I
believed my current situation was my final destination, that I couldn't do anything to change it. All I
have to do is go with the flow, and whatever happens, happens. However, attending a small family
gathering affected my opinion in life when one of my Aunt who works at Sunrise Hospital asked me
a question, whether I'm working or going to school. Her question caught me off guard. I was used to
people asking me the same questions but tonight was different. Probably because I failed my
interview the day before yesterday and I am still a little bit upset about it. I wasn't proud with the
way things going on in my life.
I'm currently unemployed and am not going to school. I ransacked my mind to think about what to
tell my Aunt for her, not to ask further questions about why I'm unemployed. In the end, I told her I
quit my job to go to school. Which is half–lie and half–truth, I was thinking of

The Freedom Of The United States
As we all know, freedom is a very meaningful word, and it has a variety expressions and definitions.
I can define the word freedom as liberty, independence, acting spontaneously, expressing yourself
with no fears, being positive and making your own choices. All people in the entire world like to be
free with no barrier or any kind of obstacles, emotionally and physically. Human beings deserve to
be free and live their life with no struggles. The most moment I felt entirely free is when I went back
home to my country, Morocco, to visit my family after a period living in the U.S.
I personally prefer to be free from any complications, but it's a pretty difficult in our society as a
Muslim girl to be permitted to do something without control. Moreover, we are prohibited for
certain things than in the US, for example going at night to have fun with friends or having a dinner
at a late hour. Since I got married, I decided to move and live with my husband because he works
and live in the US. In the beginning, it was a little hard for me to leave my parents and live in a far
country than my homeland. However, I realized that I will have a lot of opportunities and chances in
the US such as freedom. There are a lot of situations when I feel completely at liberty while I am
living in the US, but at the same time it's rare when I could feel open and relaxed from all the
troubles, for instance, work hard to satisfy my needs and study to achieve my goals and dreams.
Moreover, I don't

West Side Story Play Analysis
West Side Story is about a conflict between two rival gangs, the Jets and the Sharks, which comes to
a head when Tony, a former Jets member, and Maria, the sister of the leader of the Sharks, fall in
love. Although the play centers around Tony and Maria, the character of Anita (played by Karli
Dinardo) caught my eye since she revealed her purple dress which was different from the reds of the
Sharks and blues of the Jets and I found myself drawn to her in each scene she was present in. I also
found myself drawn to members of the Sharks as I understood the racism they faced from members
of the Jets, Officer Krupke, and Detective Schrank. The characters of Tony and Maria were actually
the characters I didn't really like as I saw them both as selfish. ... Show more content on

I found that many of the actors in West Side Story vocals fit well with their characters such as Carly
Evans soprano–like voice that seemed so innocent to the world just like Maria. The orchestra ability
to match the emotions of the song or scene was very beneficial in letting the audience know of Tony
and Maria's undying love for each other in "Tonight" through the use of light and upbeat notes or
Anita's anger in "A Boy Like That" which uses harsher notes. The effects of the characters emotions
would not have been as evident if the instrumentals they sang along too didn't match the emotions
they felt. Although the play is surrounded by dark themes, there are musical numbers with a tinge of
comedic value such as in "America" where Rosalia praises Puerto Rico through phrases such as
"Puerto Rico, you lovely island" and Anita retorts back "Puerto Rico, you ugly island" or "Gee
Officer Krupke" where the Jets are joking as to what to say to Officer Krupke ending the song with
"Gee, Officer Krupke. Krup you!". In many of the musical numbers, there seems to be a kid friendly
approach as profanity is nowhere to be found with the replacement of words such as "Buggin" in the
Jet Songs although slurs such as "spic" and "brown boy" fill the script. Besides the musical
numbers, there were also sound effects in

A Short Story : A Story?
It has been 2 days since the Jacuzzi incident between me and Connor. Connor has been acting like
he is a little agitated with me. It has also been a week and four days since I last walked through the
doors of Dogwood High though. (a.k.a hell on Earth.) I walked through the front doors of the school
a little later in the evening. Everyone looked at me like they thought I disappeared or something, I
guess no one told them what happened to me. Connor avoids me during school so no one knows
what's really going on between us. Blair spotted me out of all of the crowd of people, I don't know
how she does it but she did. As soon as Blair saw me she hugged me tightly, "Were have you been
Hun?" I think I am going to tell Blair but I don't know. I might of found someone to be in a
relationship with, got hit by a car, and stayed a whole week in someone's house with someone else
in the same bed with me. Blair's jaw dropped, "What did you just say?" I explained all of the details
and everything except who I was with. "Wow, this guy sounds amazing." He is, as I looked out of
the corner of my eye and spotted Conner and grinned.

Gung Ho Sparknotes
Gung Ho, by Ken Blanchard and Sheldon Bowles was a wonderful book that discussed many
important factors involved in making a company truly successful. It had a good storyline to help to
tell the story of Gung Ho. When I first picked up the book to read it I really had no idea what to
expect to learn from the book. The points that were made in this book were very simple and
common sense principles. I say that these principles are simple, but many companies do not think of
these little things when running a large business. They try to go "by the book" and get too caught up
in sticking to their rules and regulations. Sometimes you just have to use a little common sense
when running a business. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I felt like I was making a worthwhile difference to the members by providing them with good
service.
It is amazing what you can do as a team when you all have a shared goal in mind. The owner set the
goals for us to go by, but was always willing to listen to ideas from his employees. This allowed
everyone to feel as if they were having a hand in making the Grille a better place. The spirit of the
squirrel reminds me of the people I worked with and how they all pulled together to help. As Andy
Longclaw said in the book, "worthwhile doesn't mean more than important, it just covers more
territory than important". All of the Grille workers knew the work they did was important, and that
led to a common goal between all of us. We used values to guide all of our work and didn't take
shortcuts because we had values. We knew that every little thing was worthwhile and part of a larger
plan. In the book, Andy says that everyone should work toward a shared goal and that goals are
marker posts you drive into the future landscape between where you are and where you want to be.
We all decided to make a goal of making the Grille the best it had been in years and to keep it under
one owner for more than two years. Andy also reported about there being two types of goals. One is
result goals set out where we want to be. The other is value goals set out the impact we want to
make on the lives of team members, customers, and the community.

Reflection On Multiculturalism And Music
For part two of this project, I decided to interview a friend that I became very close to and can relate
a lot to since my time starting at the college, Joseph Ahn. I asked him four questions regarding the
environment in which he was raised in, what the music education program was like there, how he
would describe his own identity, and the outside influences that shaped his identity. This is
significant to me because I think it is important to always get new and unique perspectives on your
own ideas. It is imperative that researchers see multiple point of views so that they can create an
accurate representation of what they are studying and what they want to accomplish. By simply
looking at one's own experience is to only see one side of the argument. I want to make sure that I
am not being as biased as possible. I believe that everyone should try to keep an open mind to
everything that they learn and everything that they take a stance on. If you only look at one side of
the argument, then you will never truly learn and grow. I also wanted to ask someone of color just
like me because I feel like people of color bring unique perspectives on key topics especially to one
pertaining to multiculturalism and music. Sometimes I feel as though the music world is
predominantly made up of whites, and there is barely any representation of other races. The first
question I asked him was: Can you describe what your town is like? Joe grew up in Piscataway
Township. He told me that his

ventured there a thousand times before. We drive some distance. The phosphorus glow of the city
becomes smaller and smaller until we drive in darkness. With some hesitation I ask if we are still in
the city, and he mutters something unintelligible, which does little to placate my growing concerns.
We finally arrive at a sparsely populated town square a small back ally. The taxi ceases, and the

initiation rites. None of this looks on the level. I notice nobody seems to be about which concerns

denoting this "Art Bar". Finally, in a corner to my left, under a railing and a few stairs, sits a small

Review Of ' The Twilight Saga ' Essay
When I moved back to Washington State, it was news to me that the Twilight saga that "everyone"
was reading took place in the town of Forks. I have made it a point to shun the vampire genre, but
thankfully, I had already agreed to watch Van Helsing before I discovered it was a "vampire show.:"
Determined to go in with an open mind, I was quite excited to have the opportunity to interview one
of the stars, Alison Wandzura. Despite my lack of preparation, we had a lovely and delightfully
informative chat this past week about her beginnings as an actress, her Hallmark work, and of
course, her association with Van Helsing.

Ethos: I Wish I Knew How It Would Feel To Be Free
The Doctrine of ethos is a powerful tool used throughout time to influence a mass quantity of people
about particular ideas, emotions, or social issues. These ideas can be expressed in a multitude of
ways to convey a particular message to the observer. In this case, we are focusing on the effects of
music as it applies to human beings and their ability to understand the message implied to them and
the effect this may cause on them. I chose to focus my selection on a particular time frame, the civil
rights movement, as this would be a crucial time where people were looking fro inspiration and
morale to fight for a cause. My song choice is "I Wish I Knew How It Would Feel to be Free" by

This book was meant to fill in the holes left by the Bible by providing stories that more or less led to
the important portions of the Bible. According to this book, a number of suitors wanted Mary's hand
in marriage, she resolved this issue by giving each suitor a rod. Whoever's rod was to flower at the
tip would have her hand in marriage. In this case, Saint Joseph's rod miraculously grew small
flowers from his rod and they were set to marry at the temple henceforth. Joseph is the man
portrayed with the flowered rod and the golden drape upon his shoulder gently placing a ring on
Mary's ring finger as the other suitors look on begrudgingly. One of the suitors is so bothered by the
outcome that he proceeds to break the rod with his knee. A group women stand behind Mary as
witnesses to the marriage and others are sprawled in the background minding their own business. In

The Twelve Tribes of Hattie by Ayana Mathis
Ayana Mathis graduated from Iowa Writers' Workshop and received the Michener–Copernicus
Fellowship. What Ayana Mathis didn't know is that her first novel, The Twelve Tribes of Hattie,
would shoot her immediately into success. Her book received remarkable awards such as a New
York Times Bestseller and a New York Times Notable Book of the Year 2013 award, as well as
having been recommended by Oprah Winfrey and included for Oprah's Book Club 2.0. As visiting
faculty at the Iowa Writer's Workshop, Ayana would taught fiction writing in Spring 2013, and is
currently writing and teaching at The Writer's Foundry MFA Program at St. Joseph's College,
Brooklyn, New York. (Mathis).
The Twelve Tribes of Hattie is a story of a Hattie Shepherd, a young girl who leaves from Georgia
and moves to Philadelphia, looking for the opportunity of a better life up in the Northern states.
Hattie was one of the millions that moved during part of the Great Migration; a movement that
began 1916 when six million African–Americans packed–up and headed north in search of more
economic opportunity and to escape segregationist laws that plagued the southern part of the United
States at the time (History.com Staff). Early in the story, Hattie is quite clearly a very hopeful person
and anticipating an improvement in her life, this is evidenced by the names of her first kids, a set of
twins by the names of Jubilee and Philadelphia. Jubilee is a word that signifies a special celebration

Breakfast : The Most Important Meal Of The Day
Breakfast. The most important meal of the day. This is something we all have heard. Eat your
breakfast so the day can begin right. Breakfast is indeed a vital part of the day. However, I
personally don't care for breakfast food, I never have. Grits, oatmeal, cream of wheat, etc. have
never been my "thing". I think it is the textures that get to me, or it could just be that I dread getting
up earlier than I have to. I am not a morning person at all. Most of the time I just skip breakfast. I
know overall that is not a good thing. I would soon learn just how important it is not to skip this
meal one bitterly cold winter morning. When you live in Michigan you get the luxury of the full
winter experience. There is glistening snow on the ground, the trees are bare and the cold winter
wind hits you across the face. Today felt colder than usual nevertheless, it was a typical weekend for
me. My mother dropped me off at the mall. I headed straight to the food court seeing as though I
didn't eat breakfast this morning. I am amazed by the Christmas lights and decorations. Christmas is
my absolute favorite time of year. It can't get any better than this. I am craving taco bell, so I walk

My Life : My Personal Reflection
I'm so glad I've been able to participate in a philosophy class like this. Art of the Living Ethically
has made me have many thoughts and ideas about what and how I do things. I never really even
thought out my core values or what I fully wanted to do with my life until this course. After sitting
around thinking, brainstorming, free writing, and asking others for advice my top value is family
and what I choose to stand up for is racism. With values and what you stand up for can be a sensitive
and serious subject it was hard to find a poem that elaborates on both topics so I have two separate
poems that spoke to me. The first is "A Tribute To Family" by Michelle A Morgan and the other is
called "Racism is Around Me Everywhere " by Francis Duggan.
I figured out how much family is important during the summer but I actually didn't think it was my
top value until I had to write it on paper. They have always been on my side through thick and thin
and I know I can always count on them without hesitation. In "A Tribute To Family" most of the
lines stick out to me because I can relate . It's hard for me to pick out the lines that mean to the most

I Am Standing Still
I Am Standing...Still Fire...frozen and overflowing, Slowly melting into my world like a flaming
flood. Scorching everything and nothing...there is no blood, Freezing the burn, but the flame is still
glowing. The fire targeted me...everyone else it neglected, Sometimes I feel like I have been
injected, With an icy serum; I think I was selected, To bear the burdens that plague beloved heads, I
take on their worries while they rest in their beds. Tub of water filled with frozen fire, Maneuvering
to the left would be my desire. As the flaming waterfall rushes in my direction, My feet are frozen in
place...I seek no protection, I AM SAFE. When I was a child, I had a recurring dream. I am not sure
where it originated, but what is really perplexing is why it was a constant in my life for over two
years. It began when I was approximately six years old. I had that dream so often that I began to
confuse it with my reality. One afternoon while on the playground with my eldest sister, Keisha, and
my childhood best friend, Shema, I spoke of the dream as though it were a part of our everyday
lives. "Keisha, you know how that man made out of fire comes out the sky to chase us? You know."
My comment was met with blank stares. Finally, Keisha said, "No Tiff, you don't know what you
talking bout." They both laughed it off. Likely thinking that I was making up a tall tale. As they
continued to play, I sat quiet and embarrassed. I knew that I had made a mistake by telling them. In

Analysis Of The Glass Hill
You get to the base of the glass hill and begin the upward ascent. Even though there is a trail of
rocks that is easier to keep a grip on than the pure glass, your feet keep slipping trying to get there.
You fall on your hands and knees to keep yourself from tumbling all the way down to the bottom. In
some of your stumbles you keep knocking rocks loose from the path. When they are ripped out of
the glass hill by your foot there are cracks where there used to be rock and smooth glass. You know
if you knock too many rocks out of place that the glass hill will shatter and that the house on top of
the hill will follow, leaving only shards of destruction. I have put so much work into putting myself
on a pedestal. I invested hours of schoolwork ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
You put the key into the lock and it fits in perfectly. You gently twist it and the rock slab moves on
its own, rapidly swinging open. On the other side, there are gardens full of beautiful flowers, mainly
lilacs and violets, and you breathe in their sweet and gentle scent. There are butterflies flying
through the gardens, so lively and playful. There are statues scattered throughout. There are more of
those strange gargoyles, but when you walk closer to them, they flicker back and forth in their
appearance going between their gargoyle state and a statue so elegant it could have been carved by a
Renaissance sculptor.
There are things about me that are odd and can be off–putting to people. My sense of humor doesn't
appeal to most people and a lot of my jokes are met with blank stares. I can get hyper fixated on
things that are obscure and my references get mistaken for my genuine thoughts. I have so many
long–running in jokes that I use like its second–nature so when others don't have the context for
them it can completely derail the conversation. I have words that have very specific contexts to me
so when I hear them used in a different context my misinterpretation or confusion over the meaning
of the word can cause an awkward misunderstanding. But the people who take the effort to
understand that oddness can find a beauty in me that others are blind to. With the statues that flicker
back and forth with their appearance, the strangeness never goes

Literary Analysis Of Emily Dickinson's 'To A Heart In Sea'
ID #1 Futile – the winds –
To a Heart in port –
Done with the Compass –
Done with the Chart!
The second stanza of Emily Dickinson's "Wild Nights – Wild Nights!", portrays a sense of romantic
longing between the two lovers. In this poem, there is a nautical type of scenery being displayed,
especially in the last two stanzas. This is true because, the second stanza references: compasses,
charts, seas and ports. The first line states, "Futile – the winds", futile meaning pointless. The
narrator is stating that no matter how hard the winds blow, or how rough the seas get, her love is
strong and she is not going anywhere. When the narrator says, "To a Heart in port", it kind of creates
a setting of a lovers embrace. Every woman desires to be sought after and longed for. The narrator is
no longer searching for love, because she has found love, therefore her heart is in port or it is
docked. The narrator talks about how she is done with the compass and with the chart in the last two
lines. She is giving up all control for this person, she is free to love and to be loved. She does not
need a compass or a chart because she is not looking for anything anymore. She has found her love
and her voyage is now over. She has found her "Wild Night".
ID #4 they don't fit into little petty places, these hips are free hips. Lucille Clifton's "homage to my
hips," is all about women's empowerment. Throughout the poem, we see this reoccurring symbol of
"hips." Clifton is talking about women's hips in general, not just hers. The "hips" in this poem
symbolize how strong and powerful women are. How women can accomplish anything if they set
their mind to it. These three lines talk about how not every woman has a perfect body and how each
of them are different. These hips do not fit into society's standards for women. These hips are
different, not perfect, but they are beautiful in their own way, "they don't fit into little petty places."
In the poem it says, "these hips are free hips" which explains how women are free to make their own
decisions. They are free to have whatever kind of body type they want, without being shamed for
being different. Clifton uses the imagery of the hips to show how women are huge role models for

My Family Group Essay
I belong to many different primary and secondary groups. Some of the primary groups I belong to
are, my family group, my close friends and my religious beliefs. I also belong to many secondary
groups. They are my distant family relatives, my workplace and my classmates. In my family group
the members include my mother, Amanda McDougall, my father, Chris Lee, my brother, Jayden Lee
and myself, Mackenzie Lee. I love every member in this group with all my heart. Every member
also has a very important role and if one member wasn't to pull their weight then the group would
fall apart. My mother's role that she partakes in the group, is doing all the motherly chores, such as
cleaning the dishes, washing our clothes, sweeping, mopping, etc. She also always makes sure that
my brother and I are clean, healthy and most importantly happy. My mother is the most important
member in the group in my opinion. If she is even gone for a few hours, the house could be
completely clean when she leaves, and by the time she gets back it is a disaster! I greatly appreciate
everything my mother does for my brother and I. She doesn't act like a mother, more like a friend. I
feel comfortable to talk to her about anything and I don't know what I would do without her. She is
the strongest person I know. My father also has a major role in the group. My dad goes to work
everyday and works his butt off to make sure my mother, my brother and I have food in our

Role of Women in Hemmingway's Hills like White Elephants, Lawrence's The Horse Dealers
Daughter and Faulkner's A Rose for Emily The role of women in society is constantly questioned
and for centuries women have struggled to find their place in a world that is predominantly male

periods of time in a fictitious form, yet often truthful in many ways. Ernest Hemmingway's "Hills

By doing this Hemingway succeededs in creating a character who cannot be respected but is instead
pitied. In a discussion, with her American lover, Jig comments about the hills surrounding them,
comparing them to white elephants, only for him to tell her that what she is saying is wrong. Rather
than defend something that is her own opinion she changes the subject and later apologizes for
saying it in the first place.
""They look like white elephants", she said.
"I've never seen one," the man drank his beer.
"No, you wouldn't have."
"I might have," the man said. "Just because you say I wouldn't have doesn't prove anything.""
..........................
"They're lovely hills," she said. "They really don't look like white elephants. I just meant the
coloring of their skin through the trees."
Jig's main objective throughout the story is ensuring that her partner is happy. This is apparent when
she tells him that she will go through with the abortion. "Then I'll do it. Because I don't care about
me." "And I'll do it and then everything will be fine." Through these comments it is evident that she
truly believes if she has an abortion their relationship will be fine giving little thought to the
emotional and physical trauma the procedure will cause. Jig's subservient attitude is indicative of her
low self esteem throughout the story. She allows herself to be shaped by a man whose care for her is
more than obviously not a reciprocation of hers for

My Definition Essay
The best part about being a human being is our ability to look into ourselves, and see both the good
and the bad. Sometimes we might see traits that we love about ourselves, and other times we might
only see things we hate, but we should be able to see that all of it is good. This "good" comes from
God making us in God's image; by doing this God gives us inherent dignity, and value. And just as
Bonaventure says we can use our internal reflections like a mirror to see God. This idea really struck
me while I was reading, there is no way am I a mirror to see God. There's no way you can see God
through a blonde haired, blue eyed, 18 year–old, privileged white girl who has acne and is no where
near perfect. But then I realized through the texts of the third ... Show more content on

In this text Francis describes again that we are made in God's image and likeness, but because of this
we can't take undue credit for our talents and gifts, because after all they're not ours to take credit for
they're God's. Therefore it's not a bad reflection on myself to enjoy my witty humor; in fact it's a
form of praising God. To praise God I have to appreciate that first my wittiness helps to bring out
more of my outgoing nature. Because when I first meet someone again it might be an awkward
situation, but by making a joke I'm able to alleviate some of that tension, and get the ball rolling on
our hopeful friendship. Secondly, I have to take my wit for what it is, and as one of God's gifts to me
I have an obligation to try and alleviate the suffering of others by making them laugh. Obviously
this isn't always going to happen. But, I also feel like my wit helps me to see if I could be friends
with a person, for example if I don't make someone laugh with a joke that I find hilarious, maybe its
better for me to put my effort into a friendship else

Themes In The Color Purple By Alice Walker
The Color Purple begins by giving the readers a very vivid and vulgar message. Alice Walker, the
author, portrays the cruelty that specifically one character from her perspective received. The book
is written in diary entries from Celie to God telling him about her experiences day by day. In the
beginning, she is raped by her own father and had two children by him, one of which died. She's
basically forced to marry a man who she calls Mr. ____. He reluctantly took her because he couldn't
have her sister, Nettie. Celie was taken out of school because her Pa said that she was too dumb, but
kept Nettie in to learn. Fast forward six years and Celie's life consists of continuous work while Mr.
____ does nothing. She takes care of his children and receives no attention. Harpo, the oldest boy,
steps up and marries a lady named Sofia who has two children by him. They live in a very small
home on Older Mr. ____'s property. Sofia has a lot of growing respect for Celie, and just the other
way as well. At the end of my stopping point, Sofia mentions to Celie how much Harpo has been
eating and how it doesn't seem that he does anything else. He's skinny as a noodle, but eats more
that a cow! I was left hanging on the edge of not knowing what was wrong with him. First of all, I
chose to read this novel because I wanted to change the style of text and view something new. I have

Essay about What Home Means to Me
What Home Means to Me
In a matter of fact, home is a noun that is defined in the –Collins New School Dictionary as firstly,
the place where you live, secondly, the place where you were born or you feel you belong. On the
other hand, the dictionary also defines it as a place where people are looked after. The first meaning
of the word home would not apply to me as I only have lived in Dubai, The United Arab Emirates
for four years as compared to the seven years in Marseille, France. Although I hail from Algeria, a
country in the North of Africa, yet I yearn for my home in Marseille. The last characterization of the
word home is not relevant either. So only the second definition is the most adapted ... Show more

Every single area of my home has a history for me as I learned there how to walk, played games in
front of the parking behind the shady trees, took part in football games in front of the grey towering
buildings with my friends and many more childhood memories I still cherish. There is also my
family and relatives who played an important part in my understanding of the word home. A herd of
birds were migrating, unperturbed, towards the south. Every bird in the group felt comfortable until
a bird went astray and by accident started flying in the opposite direction. I see myself as this bird
that has parted its company and is feeling forlorn.
Recently I moved to an imposing five–bedroom house with a large garden surrounding it. There is

The Darker Face Of Earth By Rita Dove
The hardest part of being away from parents is not saying goodbye, but rather learning to live
without them. In the verse play, The Darker Face of Earth, written by Rita Dove, an incredible
author and a poet, explores all the aspects of the American history such as racial tension, civil rights,
freedom, and also the topic of being motherless. Dove's purpose was to establish that growing up
without a mother means not having any guidance which affects a child's behavior, and also leads to
unfulfilled life. Growing up without a mother has affected the young slaves growing up under white
families. These children grew up without any higher guidance in life which has damaged their
capability to be a whole person. In the play, most of the slaves grew up without parents, however, it
is truly marvelous that they still have each other's back. In the play, The Darker Face of Earth,
Augustus Newcastle sings a song that goes, "Sometimes I feel like a motherless child..." The slaves
sang along, "A motherless child, a motherless child, sometimes I feel like a motherless child––"
(1720) With this situation, Augustus implies that there are effects of parents not being around their
children. The young slaves in the play were in need of somebody to rely on. The song, "Sometimes I
feel like a Motherless Child," is a traditional Negro spiritual song which is clearly an expression of
despair and pain as is conveys the hopelessness of a young slave from their parents. Behavior is a

Negative Effects Of Body Image
With today's social media, the young generation sees an array of images that portray the ideal body.
Most of the pictures seen belong to young female models advertising beauty products. They are
presumed to have perfect and idyllic appearances (Cash, 2004). Young girls often feel the pressure
to attain this illusion which is mostly unachievable. Failure to achieve this height of beauty leads to
low self–esteem and low self–evaluation issues. The subject of body image among adolescents has
become a problem as they are always in pursuit of the high social standards of attractiveness that are
practically impossible. The teenagers in high schools are the ones who face this problem a lot.

la Pena's choice of words is very intuitive and draws the reader into the book and also the characters.
A significant moment in Danny Lopez's life is that he left his hometown to find his dad somewhere
in Mexico.
First, a significant moment in Danny Lopez's life is when he left his hometown in San Diego and

The last significant moment in Danny Lopez's life is when he tries to send his dad a bunch of letters
to find out where he is.
First, Danny illustrated his true feelings when he sends his dad a letter.
For example, Danny's love is shown when he says, "you lowered your hand and continued walking.
I followed (28).
This is significant because this shows how much love Danny has for his dad. Even though Danny's
mom and dad divorced when Danny was five it still shows how much Danny wants to reconnect
with his dad, but, did not go the way he wanted it to go.
Secondly, also another significant moment in Danny's life is when he finds out what happen to his
dad.
For example, this is shown when he says, "Nobody paid him any attention anyway because he was
Mexican [in Mexico] I don't understand" (227).
This is a symbolic moment in this book because since the start Danny had been trying to find out
what happen to his dad and was shock about what happen. During the time Danny was trying to find
his dad it turned out that he actually went to jail for beating up another

Book Review : ' Same Kind Of Different As Me '
Life Hurts In the book, "Same Kind of Different as Me," Ronnie Hall was hurt because of what his
teacher had done. He was asked to bring urine samples to school to be screened for dread diseases.
His teacher made an announcement that he will not be spending time at recess because he was
stupid enough to bring his Dixie cup to the classroom instead of the nurse's office (5). Similar to
Ron's situation, I'm always getting hurt by some family, friends, or just a random person on the
street. First and foremost, my grandmother is always hurting me throughout my life. She raised me
and my cousins from the time we were little up until now. I am the oldest out of me and my cousins,
but I get treated the worst. My grandmother shows a lot of favoritism between us no matter what the
situation is; I always get blamed for it. I graduated high school without no distractions and no kids.
My cousins, on the other hand, barely finished school and had kids during their sophomore year. In
my grandmother's eyes, I am dumb and stupid. She feels that I would never be anything in life, that I
wouldn't accomplish my goals. She used to embarrass me in school and would have the other kids
laughing at me. Never got anything that I may have wanted but my cousins always asked her for
money because they never wanted to get out and find a job themselves. I never asked my
grandmother for a cent, but get treated so badly. All I ever wanted was to make her proud of me. I

to find their place in a world that is predominantly male oriented. Literature provides a window into
the lives, thoughts and actions of women during certain periods of time in a fictitious form, yet often

Her side of the discussion is constantly exasperated as she convinces herself to believe everything
he says. Only at one point in the story does her character appear to think individually of his
thoughts, only to immediately retract when summoned. It is at this point in the story that
Hemingway symbolizes her chance for individually and then immediately showing her lack of. She
steps into the light, into herself and thinks freely on her own, only to fall back into what he wants
her to believe. "The girl stood up and walked to the end of the station. Across, on the other side,

parting of the trees make it seem as though Jig is on the verge of an epiphany and then she retracts
assuming his way of thinking, following him back into the shade. At the end of the story Jig is
seemingly content, "I feel fine," she said. "There's nothing wrong with me. I feel fine.", though in

meant to be?
I'm there ,in the living room of his house. Three couches are in the room. Me and him are sitting
together on a grey looking couch while his dads sit opposite from us. Everything's a blur including
the words. Cammorns face looks happy but his dads not so much. I then suddenly feel a tense and
overwhelming feeling overtake me. My head starts to hurt and my heart starts to beat faster. I start to
feel nauseous and dizzy as i get up from the couch i was sitting on. That the last thing I remember
before I fall to the floor into a black abyss..... "Congratulation, you two look great together," the man
says as he shakes my hand. I look around me and to my surprise, i'm at the beach. There over a
hundred people dancing and having fun. There bunches of round teal and white tables that take up
most of the area. I look down and see myself in a bright teal dress and in white high heels. I look
next to me to see my hand in his hand. He is wearing a white suit and tie that goes with my dress. I
feel loved all of a sudden and my heart starts to skip a beat. My eyes start to wandering around the
location until they land on a huge white banner. Everything is blurry but I somehow make out the
words. Congrats to the newlywed couples Mr. and Mrs. Corse. I look back down to hand being

My Cultural Root Of My Resilience
Islam, stands as the spiritual root of my resilience. Whatever the almighty does has a perfect
meaning and he and only Him knows what he is doing. Concerning my emotion, they have failed to
provide me a deep root, I simply can not use emotion to actually build up my resilience, however,
playing on my psychological root can support both psychological and emotional roots. Today, I can
say that I am an optimistic person. I trained my brain to actually pursue a goal whatever difficulty it
encounters, and today it works. My cultural root are based on the idea that a man is only successful
outside the household. Having this idea in mind, I have to be always excellence and successful, even
in difficult moment. I have to find positivity and if not, I have to create way to build this positivity.
b.
In my culture, people are mainly focused on an idea based on gender. My culture would generally
tell me that I am a Man, I should not cry, I should still raise up and fight for what I want. However,
during the past two years, I have been exposed to the idea of "failing forward". This expression is
based on the idea that even if I fall most of the time, I should keep on going and keep on going. I
have been taught that overcoming situation or building resilience is a process that needs time. First, I
have to identify the situation, I have to then understand it, and then try to find a solution to it. In this
way, I tried for a long time to apply the past methods. Months after months,

Analysis Of Michael's 'EliNight'
I believe that the symbolic coup of capitalism against the divine is embodied in this scene. Daniel
represents entrepreneurship that has allowed money to become a religion in of itself. We can not say
he is faith less as he states that he "is the one who the Lord has chosen" which I interpret as the lord
has chosen his methods over Eli's traditional ones. Ones in which one is self made and obtains
things through money rather than expecting a deity to grant us all our wishes. Ultimately it is a
symbolic transition that reflects the country's shift from a reliance on religion to reliance on more
tangible means of obtaining what one wants...."I'm finished!" plainview will get away with killing
him. Back in those days/hell even today, but it ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
"I am the third revelation", not God. I am God. I will have control and through everything, the
baptism, the loss of people he thought were "family", and the hatred, there will be blood. I can
understand why he is so outraged with him. Daniel is naturally a psychopath and constantly mocks
and insults his son because Daniel lacks sympathy with others. Daniel feels betrayed that Harvard is
the closest thing that he knows as a family and that Daniel only knows how to be an asshole to
everyone. You have to understand that Daniel is in fact a psychopath,he is manipulative, lacks
remorse or shame, anti–social behavior and more. HW (Harvard) was adopted so he does not carry
the "psychotic" gene or traits. If you noticed like in the beginning during the quail hunt scene. HW
knew that Daniel was cheating the farmers from paying a fair price for the oil on their land and felt
bad about it while Daniel did not. It's a good thing HW left his father because he only took the good
parts from Daniel and refused to become the horrible monster that he really is. He knows that it is
simply better to walk away than to fight him and simply start his own life better than Daniel ever
could have. Sometimes I feel that the harshness of this scene prompts people to take Daniel's
utilitarian statements about his son at face value. However, what I've always been struck by is the
fact that at

Descriptive Essay About Outsiders

  • 1. Descriptive Essay About Outsiders The name's Johnny, I'm part of a very close family. This family is not by blood though, my blood family knows I exist, they just wish they didn't. My mom is an angry drunk, and my dad beats me with no provocation. My other family, or friends I guess, are pretty nice. They're greasers, and I am too. I'm not as tough or mean looking as the other greasers, but I get along okay. It's strange, rather than picking on me, the gang (my substitute family) protects me. I guess I'm like the pet/kid brother of the group, or maybe they just don't want me to make a fuss, but I get pretty annoying to them sometimes. There's another kid, he's a little younger than me, and we get along. His name's Ponyboy, but even he looks tougher than me. We ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I kept running, I could hear him yelling down the street at me, but I refused to look back. Tears were streaming down my face, my chin itched from them drying, I was running out of breath so I stopped and leaned against a blue cement wall, it was cold and relaxing. 'This is what home is supposed to feel like, comforting' I thought as I started to dry my eyes. An hour or so had gone by until I realized, " I need to run away." I mumbled as I started walking back towards 'the shack of misery'. My feet had started to get the feeling back in them, I was walking faster now. I was getting more and more excited about what I was about to do, so excited I shouted, "I'm going to be free!" as I leapt into the air. As I walked up to the house I had just been shooed out of, I decided it would be best to sneak in through my bedroom window. I tried my best to put my feet down as slowly as possible so that the dry grass beneath them wouldn't alert anybody that's home. I started forming a plan so that I can avoid as many problems as possible. " Okay, sneak through window, grab bag, put some of your food stash in it, then get out." I whispered to myself. I put my hands on the windowsill and pushed my body up, the metal bar that holds the screen sank into my hands, I kept myself from exclaiming a few cuss words. I lifted my knee onto the sill and pushed the rest of my body through the window. I raced across the floor as quiet, but quick as I ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Writing For Our English Class Some Clamor Louder "Life is a small, spinning oyster, and it is one that I do not wish to eat." Emily's proclamations often situate themselves between the abstruse and the overwrought, and tonight, at this booth, in this sleek little Asian–fusion restaurant, she has welded both worlds. "Em," I sigh, "there's more on the menu than just seafood." "Well, maybe I don't want any of it. Maybe I want to starve." "Fine, then starve." In the eleventh grade, Emily presented an original poem for our English class––not to be graded, but out of creative expression. Before she began, she held her notebook page in front of us and fanned it around the room. Her words appeared as sharp streaks of red on an otherwise pale piece of paper. "I wanted to make it look like blood," she prefaced, to which a few students sneered. I shot a glance at Ms. Ward, who was not doing a good job hiding her unease; one of her hands was prodding at her temple, a nervous habit that I had come to notice. Emily cleared her throat. "In the South Pacific, I dream of beaches I dream of leeches sucking my skin. Sometimes I wish they would suck me dry and other times I want to go home. In the Mid–Atlantic, I raise my hand, I wait politely to be called. I'm never called, I'm never called. My mom says, one day, it will work; I sneak Prozac from her purse. For now, I sit, I wait, I wish, for what, you ask? I'll tell you now. I want to ride the greatest tide into the darkest pits of hell, I want to never want again, that ... • 7. Descriptive Essay It was a busy day at Starbucks, where I worked as a barista. The line was backed up almost out the door. I saw a vaguely familiar woman with wavy brunette locks and a waifish figure enter the coffeeshop. Beside her was a man who looked to be in his mid–50's. He led her to an armchair in the corner and got in line. I snuck glances at her out of the corner of my eye while I made one of the drinks, trying to figure out why I recognized her wide brown eyes. But I shook off the thought and focused on the task in front of me. Eventually, the man who had entered with the mysterious, brown–eyed woman was at the front of the line and I was taking his order. He requested a tall mocha latte with a shot of espresso. "What's the name?" I asked. "Cathie. C–A–T–H–I–E," he answered. That's when it clicked. The unconventional spelling. The familiarity of the woman he'd walked in with. It couldn't be, could it? But I glanced over at the woman in the armchair, and sure enough, I realized why she'd looked so familiar. "Right away, sir," I answered, trying not to show that I was trembling deep inside at the prospect of making my favorite actress a cup of coffee. Here's what I knew. We both were born in Houston, but had been moved to different places by our families, only to return there in our adulthood. But I also knew that Houston was a big city, and the odds of running into Cathie Winters, let alone making her coffee weren't that great. I guess it was my lucky day. I quickly prepared the ... • 9. Hills Like White Elephants And Jig's Relationship 6.What is the nature of their relationship? Use examples from the text to justify your response. The two characters, the short story "Hills like White Elephants" by Ernest Hemingway is centred around can be perceived to be close to one another, in some form. This can be inferred from the passage "'It's really an awfully simple operation, Jig,' the man said. 'It's not really an operation at all.'" where the two talk of the operation used to induce a miscarriage, a topic that tends to only be breached between trusted individuals; although this excerpt does not determine the nature of their relationship. However, in tandem with "'And if I do it you'll be happy and things will be like they were and you'll love me?'", it is more likely that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Jig also displays a subtle defiance to the man, which proves that there may be more problems than the story depicts. For example "'I've never seen one,' the man drank his beer. 'No, you wouldn't have.'" My sympathy with Jig is strongly cemented by the sentence "'I feel fine,' she said. 'There's nothing wrong with me. I feel fine.'" where Jig closes the story with a more sarcastic response to being well, making me believe that the girl has hit a limit to her willingness to please the ... So, the stress for me is driving all the way to my job location just to speak on actions of my client that are consistent each week. Other jobs that I have applied to previously compensate their workers for supervision weekly or give the option to have phone conferences about our clients. Secondly, this particular job I am considered a independent contractor. Independent contractor means there is no taxes taken out of each check I receive each week. This is a stressor because although I may save money with each check by the end of the year it seems I owe so much. • 13. Hills Like White Elephants By Ernest Hemmingway "Hills Like White Elephants" By Ernest Hemmingway is an interesting piece that consists entirely of an odd conversation between two people sitting at a train station in Spain, having drinks while they wait on their ride. The couple do not have names, just "The American" and "The Girl" who is also called "Jig" a time or two by The American. Hemmingway uses these characters and their actions along with the setting and symbolism to paint a beautiful picture of an untruthful relationship and a secretive "Operation" that brings out the true feelings between an unknown couple. The point of view of this piece is told from the third person. Almost third person limited as we never get to hear the actual thoughts of any of the characters, making both of them rather unreliable as we never will know for certain the true intentions either one of them has. At the beginning of the story, the conversation between these two people seems very strange. Each of them are speaking but it is clear that neither are truly listening to what the other is saying making it obvious that each has something much bigger on their mind that they know they must address but neither are yet comfortable with bringing up the topic. This is initially what I figured the hills symbolized when that girl compares them to white elephants. There is definitely an elephant in the room. A Major problem that must be given attention despite the extreme discomfort it may bring, but the two are not yet comfortable to discuss ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Living abroad is a dream come true, but it wasn't easy.Being in a land of opportunities, it was hard finding a job that would hire inexperienced people. I started working as a live–in cook on a senior home care where my uncle works. I quit after few weeks of working and was hired as a cashier at a souvenir shop in Downtown Las Vegas. Everything was going well. But after three years of working, I got fed up by how they treat and manage their employees. I looked and applied for a new job, but to no avail, I wasn't lucky enough. I spend my time babysitting my cousins to pay my bills. I believed my current situation was my final destination, that I couldn't do anything to change it. All I have to do is go with the flow, and whatever happens, happens. However, attending a small family gathering affected my opinion in life when one of my Aunt who works at Sunrise Hospital asked me a question, whether I'm working or going to school. Her question caught me off guard. I was used to people asking me the same questions but tonight was different. Probably because I failed my interview the day before yesterday and I am still a little bit upset about it. I wasn't proud with the way things going on in my life. I'm currently unemployed and am not going to school. I ransacked my mind to think about what to tell my Aunt for her, not to ask further questions about why I'm unemployed. • 17. The Freedom Of The United States As we all know, freedom is a very meaningful word, and it has a variety expressions and definitions. I can define the word freedom as liberty, independence, acting spontaneously, expressing yourself with no fears, being positive and making your own choices. All people in the entire world like to be free with no barrier or any kind of obstacles, emotionally and physically. Human beings deserve to be free and live their life with no struggles. The most moment I felt entirely free is when I went back home to my country, Morocco, to visit my family after a period living in the U.S. I personally prefer to be free from any complications, but it's a pretty difficult in our society as a Muslim girl to be permitted to do something without control. Moreover, we are prohibited for certain things than in the US, for example going at night to have fun with friends or having a dinner at a late hour. Since I got married, I decided to move and live with my husband because he works and live in the US. In the beginning, it was a little hard for me to leave my parents and live in a far country than my homeland. However, I realized that I will have a lot of opportunities and chances in the US such as freedom. There are a lot of situations when I feel completely at liberty while I am living in the US, but at the same time it's rare when I could feel open and relaxed from all the troubles, for instance, work hard to satisfy my needs and study to achieve my goals and dreams. Moreover, I don't ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 19. West Side Story Play Analysis West Side Story is about a conflict between two rival gangs, the Jets and the Sharks, which comes to a head when Tony, a former Jets member, and Maria, the sister of the leader of the Sharks, fall in love. Although the play centers around Tony and Maria, the character of Anita (played by Karli Dinardo) caught my eye since she revealed her purple dress which was different from the reds of the Sharks and blues of the Jets and I found myself drawn to her in each scene she was present in. I also found myself drawn to members of the Sharks as I understood the racism they faced from members of the Jets, Officer Krupke, and Detective Schrank. The characters of Tony and Maria were actually the characters I didn't really like as I saw them both as selfish. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I found that many of the actors in West Side Story vocals fit well with their characters such as Carly Evans soprano–like voice that seemed so innocent to the world just like Maria. The orchestra ability to match the emotions of the song or scene was very beneficial in letting the audience know of Tony and Maria's undying love for each other in "Tonight" through the use of light and upbeat notes or Anita's anger in "A Boy Like That" which uses harsher notes. The effects of the characters emotions would not have been as evident if the instrumentals they sang along too didn't match the emotions they felt. Although the play is surrounded by dark themes, there are musical numbers with a tinge of comedic value such as in "America" where Rosalia praises Puerto Rico through phrases such as "Puerto Rico, you lovely island" and Anita retorts back "Puerto Rico, you ugly island" or "Gee Officer Krupke" where the Jets are joking as to what to say to Officer Krupke ending the song with "Gee, Officer Krupke. Krup you!". In many of the musical numbers, there seems to be a kid friendly approach as profanity is nowhere to be found with the replacement of words such as "Buggin" in the Jet Songs although slurs such as "spic" and "brown boy" fill the script. I walked through the front doors of the school a little later in the evening. Everyone looked at me like they thought I disappeared or something, I guess no one told them what happened to me. Connor avoids me during school so no one knows what's really going on between us. Blair spotted me out of all of the crowd of people, I don't know how she does it but she did. As soon as Blair saw me she hugged me tightly, "Were have you been Hun?" I think I am going to tell Blair but I don't know. I might of found someone to be in a relationship with, got hit by a car, and stayed a whole week in someone's house with someone else in the same bed with me. It had a good storyline to help to tell the story of Gung Ho. When I first picked up the book to read it I really had no idea what to expect to learn from the book. The points that were made in this book were very simple and common sense principles. I say that these principles are simple, but many companies do not think of these little things when running a large business. They try to go "by the book" and get too caught up in sticking to their rules and regulations. Sometimes you just have to use a little common sense when running a business. ... This allowed everyone to feel as if they were having a hand in making the Grille a better place. The spirit of the squirrel reminds me of the people I worked with and how they all pulled together to help. • 25. Reflection On Multiculturalism And Music For part two of this project, I decided to interview a friend that I became very close to and can relate a lot to since my time starting at the college, Joseph Ahn. I asked him four questions regarding the environment in which he was raised in, what the music education program was like there, how he would describe his own identity, and the outside influences that shaped his identity. This is significant to me because I think it is important to always get new and unique perspectives on your own ideas. It is imperative that researchers see multiple point of views so that they can create an accurate representation of what they are studying and what they want to accomplish. By simply looking at one's own experience is to only see one side of the argument. I want to make sure that I am not being as biased as possible. I believe that everyone should try to keep an open mind to everything that they learn and everything that they take a stance on. If you only look at one side of the argument, then you will never truly learn and grow. I also wanted to ask someone of color just like me because I feel like people of color bring unique perspectives on key topics especially to one pertaining to multiculturalism and music. Sometimes I feel as though the music world is predominantly made up of whites, and there is barely any representation of other races. In a haze of hashish smoke, I down another cup and we part ways, looking out the window as the faithful emerge into the streets and the beat of life resumes. The phosphorus glow of the city becomes smaller and smaller until we drive in darkness. Breakfast is indeed a vital part of the day. However, I personally don't care for breakfast food, I never have. Grits, oatmeal, cream of wheat, etc. have never been my "thing". I think it is the textures that get to me, or it could just be that I dread getting up earlier than I have to. I am not a morning person at all. Most of the time I just skip breakfast. • 37. My Life : My Personal Reflection I'm so glad I've been able to participate in a philosophy class like this. Art of the Living Ethically has made me have many thoughts and ideas about what and how I do things. I never really even thought out my core values or what I fully wanted to do with my life until this course. After sitting around thinking, brainstorming, free writing, and asking others for advice my top value is family and what I choose to stand up for is racism. With values and what you stand up for can be a sensitive and serious subject it was hard to find a poem that elaborates on both topics so I have two separate poems that spoke to me. The first is "A Tribute To Family" by Michelle A Morgan and the other is called "Racism is Around Me Everywhere " by Francis Duggan. I figured out how much family is important during the summer but I actually didn't think it was my top value until I had to write it on paper. They have always been on my side through thick and thin and I know I can always count on them without hesitation. In "A Tribute To Family" most of the lines stick out to me because I can relate . It's hard for me to pick out the lines that mean to the most to me because I feel like if I don't put one of his sentences in then it loses its significance. • 45. Literary Analysis Of Emily Dickinson's 'To A Heart In Sea' ID #1 Futile – the winds – To a Heart in port – Done with the Compass – Done with the Chart! The second stanza of Emily Dickinson's "Wild Nights – Wild Nights!", portrays a sense of romantic longing between the two lovers. In this poem, there is a nautical type of scenery being displayed, especially in the last two stanzas. This is true because, the second stanza references: compasses, charts, seas and ports. The first line states, "Futile – the winds", futile meaning pointless. The narrator is stating that no matter how hard the winds blow, or how rough the seas get, her love is strong and she is not going anywhere. When the narrator says, "To a Heart in port", it kind of creates a setting of a lovers embrace. Every woman desires to be sought after and longed for. The narrator is no longer searching for love, because she has found love, therefore her heart is in port or it is docked. The narrator talks about how she is done with the compass and with the chart in the last two lines. She is giving up all control for this person, she is free to love and to be loved. She does not need a compass or a chart because she is not looking for anything anymore. She has found her love and her voyage is now over. She has found her "Wild Night". ID #4 they don't fit into little petty places, these hips are free hips. Lucille Clifton's "homage to my hips," is all about women's empowerment. Throughout the poem, we see this reoccurring symbol of "hips." Clifton is talking about women's hips in general, not just hers. The "hips" in this poem symbolize how strong and powerful women are. How women can accomplish anything if they set their mind to it. These three lines talk about how not every woman has a perfect body and how each of them are different. These hips do not fit into society's standards for women. These hips are different, not perfect, but they are beautiful in their own way, "they don't fit into little petty places." In the poem it says, "these hips are free hips" which explains how women are free to make their own decisions. They are free to have whatever kind of body type they want, without being shamed for being different. Clifton uses the imagery of the hips to show how women are huge role models for ... I also belong to many secondary groups. They are my distant family relatives, my workplace and my classmates. In my family group the members include my mother, Amanda McDougall, my father, Chris Lee, my brother, Jayden Lee and myself, Mackenzie Lee. I love every member in this group with all my heart. Every member also has a very important role and if one member wasn't to pull their weight then the group would fall apart. My mother's role that she partakes in the group, is doing all the motherly chores, such as cleaning the dishes, washing our clothes, sweeping, mopping, etc. She also always makes sure that my brother and I are clean, healthy and most importantly happy. My mother is the most important member in the group in my opinion. If she is even gone for a few hours, the house could be completely clean when she leaves, and by the time she gets back it is a disaster! I greatly appreciate everything my mother does for my brother and I. She doesn't act like a mother, more like a friend. I feel comfortable to talk to her about anything and I don't know what I would do without her. She is the strongest person I know. My father also has a major role in the group. Role of Women in Hemmingway's Hills like White Elephants, Lawrence's The Horse Dealers Daughter and Faulkner's A Rose for Emily The role of women in society is constantly questioned and for centuries women have struggled to find their place in a world that is predominantly male oriented. Literature provides a window into the lives, thoughts and actions of women during certain periods of time in a fictitious form, yet often truthful in many ways. Ernest Hemmingway's "Hills like White Elephants", D.H. In a discussion, with her American lover, Jig comments about the hills surrounding them, comparing them to white elephants, only for him to tell her that what she is saying is wrong. Rather than defend something that is her own opinion she changes the subject and later apologizes for saying it in the first place. ""They look like white elephants", she said. "I've never seen one," the man drank his beer. "No, you wouldn't have." "I might have," the man said. "Just because you say I wouldn't have doesn't prove anything."" .......................... "They're lovely hills," she said. "They really don't look like white elephants. I just meant the coloring of their skin through the trees." Jig's main objective throughout the story is ensuring that her partner is happy. This is apparent when she tells him that she will go through with the abortion. "Then I'll do it. Because I don't care about me." "And I'll do it and then everything will be fine." Through these comments it is evident that she truly believes if she has an abortion their relationship will be fine giving little thought to the emotional and physical trauma the procedure will cause. Jig's subservient attitude is indicative of her low self esteem throughout the story. She allows herself to be shaped by a man whose care for her is more than obviously not a reciprocation of hers for

  • 52. My Definition Essay The best part about being a human being is our ability to look into ourselves, and see both the good and the bad. Sometimes we might see traits that we love about ourselves, and other times we might only see things we hate, but we should be able to see that all of it is good. This "good" comes from God making us in God's image; by doing this God gives us inherent dignity, and value. And just as Bonaventure says we can use our internal reflections like a mirror to see God. This idea really struck me while I was reading, there is no way am I a mirror to see God. There's no way you can see God through a blonde haired, blue eyed, 18 year–old, privileged white girl who has acne and is no where near perfect. But then I realized through the texts of the third ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In this text Francis describes again that we are made in God's image and likeness, but because of this we can't take undue credit for our talents and gifts, because after all they're not ours to take credit for they're God's. Therefore it's not a bad reflection on myself to enjoy my witty humor; in fact it's a form of praising God. To praise God I have to appreciate that first my wittiness helps to bring out more of my outgoing nature. Because when I first meet someone again it might be an awkward situation, but by making a joke I'm able to alleviate some of that tension, and get the ball rolling on our hopeful friendship. Secondly, I have to take my wit for what it is, and as one of God's gifts to me I have an obligation to try and alleviate the suffering of others by making them laugh. Obviously this isn't always going to happen. But, I also feel like my wit helps me to see if I could be friends with a person, for example if I don't make someone laugh with a joke that I find hilarious, maybe its better for me to put my effort into a friendship else ... Alice Walker, the author, portrays the cruelty that specifically one character from her perspective received. The book is written in diary entries from Celie to God telling him about her experiences day by day. In the beginning, she is raped by her own father and had two children by him, one of which died. She's basically forced to marry a man who she calls Mr. ____. He reluctantly took her because he couldn't have her sister, Nettie. Celie was taken out of school because her Pa said that she was too dumb, but kept Nettie in to learn. Fast forward six years and Celie's life consists of continuous work while Mr. ____ does nothing. She takes care of his children and receives no attention. Harpo, the oldest boy, steps up and marries a lady named Sofia who has two children by him. They live in a very small home on Older Mr. ____'s property. Sofia has a lot of growing respect for Celie, and just the other way as well. At the end of my stopping point, Sofia mentions to Celie how much Harpo has been eating and how it doesn't seem that he does anything else. He's skinny as a noodle, but eats more that a cow! I was left hanging on the edge of not knowing what was wrong with him. First of all, I chose to read this novel because I wanted to change the style of text and view something new. Essay about What Home Means to Me What Home Means to Me In a matter of fact, home is a noun that is defined in the –Collins New School Dictionary as firstly, the place where you live, secondly, the place where you were born or you feel you belong. On the other hand, the dictionary also defines it as a place where people are looked after. The first meaning of the word home would not apply to me as I only have lived in Dubai, The United Arab Emirates for four years as compared to the seven years in Marseille, France. Although I hail from Algeria, a country in the North of Africa, yet I yearn for my home in Marseille. The last characterization of the word home is not relevant either. Every bird in the group felt comfortable until a bird went astray and by accident started flying in the opposite direction. I see myself as this bird that has parted its company and is feeling forlorn. Recently I moved to an imposing five–bedroom house with a large garden surrounding it. There is also a terrace that overlooks the garden and a path leading to the swimming pool and gymnasium as well as the Jacuzzi and a big courtyard where we play table tennis. Attached to our villa there is a garage where we can park both our cars and Jet Ski easily. The garden has various kinds of fragrant flowers of all colours and palm trees. • 60. The Darker Face Of Earth By Rita Dove The hardest part of being away from parents is not saying goodbye, but rather learning to live without them. In the verse play, The Darker Face of Earth, written by Rita Dove, an incredible author and a poet, explores all the aspects of the American history such as racial tension, civil rights, freedom, and also the topic of being motherless. Dove's purpose was to establish that growing up without a mother means not having any guidance which affects a child's behavior, and also leads to unfulfilled life. Growing up without a mother has affected the young slaves growing up under white families. These children grew up without any higher guidance in life which has damaged their capability to be a whole person. In the play, most of the slaves grew up without parents, however, it is truly marvelous that they still have each other's back. In the play, The Darker Face of Earth, Augustus Newcastle sings a song that goes, "Sometimes I feel like a motherless child..." The slaves sang along, "A motherless child, a motherless child, sometimes I feel like a motherless child––" (1720) With this situation, Augustus implies that there are effects of parents not being around their children. The young slaves in the play were in need of somebody to rely on. The song, "Sometimes I feel like a Motherless Child," is a traditional Negro spiritual song which is clearly an expression of despair and pain as is conveys the hopelessness of a young slave from their parents. Behavior is a range of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 64. Negative Effects Of Body Image With today's social media, the young generation sees an array of images that portray the ideal body. Most of the pictures seen belong to young female models advertising beauty products. They are presumed to have perfect and idyllic appearances (Cash, 2004). Young girls often feel the pressure to attain this illusion which is mostly unachievable. Failure to achieve this height of beauty leads to low self–esteem and low self–evaluation issues. The subject of body image among adolescents has become a problem as they are always in pursuit of the high social standards of attractiveness that are practically impossible. The teenagers in high schools are the ones who face this problem a lot. (Pope, Corona & Belgrave, 2014). Turco 4 The last significant moment in Danny Lopez's life is when he tries to send his dad a bunch of letters to find out where he is. First, Danny illustrated his true feelings when he sends his dad a letter. For example, Danny's love is shown when he says, "you lowered your hand and continued walking. I followed (28). This is significant because this shows how much love Danny has for his dad. Even though Danny's mom and dad divorced when Danny was five it still shows how much Danny wants to reconnect with his dad, but, did not go the way he wanted it to go. Secondly, also another significant moment in Danny's life is when he finds out what happen to his dad. For example, this is shown when he says, "Nobody paid him any attention anyway because he was Mexican [in Mexico] I don't understand" (227). This is a symbolic moment in this book because since the start Danny had been trying to find out what happen to his dad and was shock about what happen. Today, I can say that I am an optimistic person. I trained my brain to actually pursue a goal whatever difficulty it encounters, and today it works. My cultural root are based on the idea that a man is only successful outside the household. Having this idea in mind, I have to be always excellence and successful, even in difficult moment. I have to find positivity and if not, I have to create way to build this positivity. b. In my culture, people are mainly focused on an idea based on gender. My culture would generally tell me that I am a Man, I should not cry, I should still raise up and fight for what I want. However, during the past two years, I have been exposed to the idea of "failing forward". This expression is based on the idea that even if I fall most of the time, I should keep on going and keep on going. I have been taught that overcoming situation or building resilience is a process that needs time. Daniel represents entrepreneurship that has allowed money to become a religion in of itself. We can not say he is faith less as he states that he "is the one who the Lord has chosen" which I interpret as the lord has chosen his methods over Eli's traditional ones. Ones in which one is self made and obtains things through money rather than expecting a deity to grant us all our wishes. Daniel feels betrayed that Harvard is the closest thing that he knows as a family and that Daniel only knows how to be an asshole to everyone.
