Summary Of Ideas to start
0 The genre of my magazine will be Eclectic (wide range of genres) like Q magazine and
Billboard.
0 My music magazine will be smaller dimensions of 8x5.
0 The house style will be of yellow, white and black, three main colours typical of my music
genre.
0 Target audience will be range of 16-24+, primarily both genders, the magazine will achieve
this through getting celebrities known by both genres: Anthony Joshua and Adele.
0 My target audience are interested in all the exclusive types of media, celebrity culture and
films and TV industry.
0 The socio-economic needs for my magazine will be C2 which is skilled manual workers to E
which is casual/ lowest grade workers (pensioners and others who depend on welfare).
Therefore, the price of the magazine will lowered to a more suitable price because of the
lower classes income.
0 When reading the magazine the readers will get new exclusives such as film, music and
celebrity interviews etc. looking at Maslow’s theory my target audience will be “social
climbers” and “explorers” because the magazine will include information about new topics
such as celebrities and music.
0 The magazine will inform and educate the reader and also build personal relationships
between the audience and the subject interview (Katz uses and gratifications theory).

Yellow connotes: joyful,

The Main image I will be

that is a model.
Monthly circulation – this
is because not every
popular artist is always
coming out with new
albums.
Gives my magazine
more time to find
out information.

C2 – E socio

It would appeal to these
demographics because of
the magazines look and the
type of language used and
its target audience.
MO – Monthly Ovation
As it means Monthly
Ovation, because of the
knowledge and
information that is within
the magazine they will be
able to give the magazine
appreciation and
enthusiasm.

Looking at the socio-

C2 –E in the socio-

magazine is towards
working class and the
younger generation (15-
24) because of the
language used etc.
Catalyst magazine – this is
because it is another word used
for motivation which I intend on
showing a lot of when making
my magazine
My magazines of
inspiration are
mojo and Q
because of their
vast popularity in
music magazines.
The music genre is
going to be Pop and

Weekly circulation- the reason why I
chose to have weekly circulation is
because of the large fan base of the hip
hop genre, there is no time when there
isn't news to fill our magazines.
Makes my
magazine look
more motivated
Making the masthead bold and
short following the ways of XXL
and Vibe will allow the
magazine to look easy on the
eye when it is in a shop etc.
Keeping it plain
but colorful
Looking at the socio-
economics table I will
be targeting the
sectors of D and E as
the target audience is
more of the younger
generation.
The demographics of this
magazine is towards the
younger generation (15-
21) because of the
language used etc.
HMW – this stands for ‘hourly, Monthly
and Weekly’ the meaning of this is that the
creators of this magazine, there will be
people constantly working to find new
interesting news to look exciting to attract
new buyers.
My magazines of inspiration are XXL and VIBE, the
reason for this is because with these genres of music
there is a much bigger audience which will mean
that the magazine will be easier to sell.

Font Styles
MO magazine fonts Catalyst magazine fonts
For MO magazine I have chosen these fonts because they reflect my
intentions with this magazine, as you can see with some of my chosen
fonts are more suited to my audience. Looking at font number three, it
definitely target my audience of the socio-economic needs table which
was from C2- E, this has an age range of about 15-25 meaning that I will
need to make sure that my fonts are more informal as it will attract the
targeted audience.
looking at my fonts that I have selected for my second magazine called
“Catalyst”, this magazine is targeted more towards people of a different
taste to “MO” as the language in “Catalyst” magazine even though it is
still targeted at C2-E, it is more formal.
House Style - MO
Colour scheme
For MO magazine I will be using monochrome with hints of yellow. This is
because using black and white will show the contrast of my magazine and
how my magazine can bring sunlight to the darkness using the hints of
yellow. I have decided to using yellow because I connotes sunlight and
joyfulness.
Font style
For MO magazine I will be using the font style is known as ‘Arial rounded
MT bold’. The reason for this is, I think that is a great font to go with my
masthead, also because of my younger targeted audience as the font is
rounded and bold it shows the informal side to my magazine, as I don’t
intend on targeting anyone over the age of 25 and that aren't in the socio-
economic needs sector that I have chosen.
Social media
MO magazine will be a synergy with all social medias. This is because I
will then be able to reach out to a lot more people and possibly on a global
scale eventually. Using the most popular social medias such as Instagram,
Snapchat and twitter to promote and give my audience updates and
possible exclusives.
House style - Catalyst
Colour scheme
For my magazine, I will use colours such as Blue and White. This is
because I will be taking a competitor such as Q and make my
magazine look similar but more pleasing to my target audience.
Further to this, I think that red and white does’t stand out like the
colours blue and white do.
Font style
Looking at Catalyst magazine, the font I have chosen to use is called
‘Verdana’. I have chosen this font because it think it fits in perfectly
with my masthead font and the colour scheme. On this magazine I
will laying it out slightly different to MO magazine as I want the
masthead of Catalyst to stand out a lot more, so I will be placing my
in a different area.
Social media
Similarly to MO magazine I will be using all of the same social media
platforms such as Instagram, snapchat and twitter. However, for this
magazine I will add in Facebook because I will then be able to reach
a further audience within its multi-million users.
Mood Boards – MO
Catalyst mood board
Mood Board Conclusion
Billboard is a great example of what my
magazine is inspired by because of
their layout. With their famous
celebrities on their covers they make
them look powerful and glamorous,
this is where I will be getting my layout
ideas from. I have chosen Billboard, Q
and HITS magazine as an inspiration of
mine because as a whole they target
anyone due to their genre that they
have chosen has no target audience and
they are listened to by a wide
percentage of the population such as
Justin Bieber, Adele and Ed Sheeran.
For my Catalyst magazine I have selected
NME as my inspiration because even
though they are quite similar to others
such as Q and Billboard they differ from
these magazines due to their look on their
front covers which gives it more of a
rough edge on it making it look more
presentable for an older audience.

Hand Drawn Drafts Conclusion
MO
Front cover
Out of the two designs I came up
with, I prefer the one on the right
because with the way they are laid
out they nearly replicated my
competitors’ magazines, but with my
magazine I will make sure that my
content a lot better than ‘Billboard’.
Double page
Looking at my double page designs, I
think that the top one is better. This is
because its layout is much neater and
I think that I will be able to produce a
magazine with that specific layout
much easier than the bottom design.
Catalyst
Front cover
As for these designs, I prefer the
design on the right because is more
unique when its compared to other
competitors magazines.
Double page
For this, I will be using the design on
the top because, I prefer it a lot more
in comparison to the other design
and I think with having more space
for images it then makes it look more
interesting to the audience

I have chosen these two graphic layouts because I preferred
them to any of the other designs that I had created. Further to
this, looking at my hand drawn drafts, these two overruled all
of them as well just because of my thought process really paid
off with the end result of these two.
Conclusion
Overall, the magazine I have put together will be called Catalyst and
it will follow the colour scheme I have given it, with it masthead
will be bold and all white. On the front cover there is going to be
only one main image of an artist that is relevant, the type of camera
shot is going to be mid shot as it give the fans a better look at their
stature and what they look like. Further to this, my cover lines are
going to be in line with the barcode, on the left side.
On the other hand, my double page spread will have a mixture of
different pictures with different camera shots. The reason for the
variety is so that it doesn’t look too plain and simple to the reader
and will look interesting to read. For one of the pages I will use a
quote especially chosen by the artist that I have chosen for my
magazine.

  • 3. Summary Of Ideas to start 0 The genre of my magazine will be Eclectic (wide range of genres) like Q magazine and Billboard. 0 My music magazine will be smaller dimensions of 8x5. 0 The house style will be of yellow, white and black, three main colours typical of my music genre. 0 Target audience will be range of 16-24+, primarily both genders, the magazine will achieve this through getting celebrities known by both genres: Anthony Joshua and Adele. 0 My target audience are interested in all the exclusive types of media, celebrity culture and films and TV industry. 0 The socio-economic needs for my magazine will be C2 which is skilled manual workers to E which is casual/ lowest grade workers (pensioners and others who depend on welfare). Therefore, the price of the magazine will lowered to a more suitable price because of the lower classes income. 0 When reading the magazine the readers will get new exclusives such as film, music and celebrity interviews etc. looking at Maslow’s theory my target audience will be “social climbers” and “explorers” because the magazine will include information about new topics such as celebrities and music. 0 The magazine will inform and educate the reader and also build personal relationships between the audience and the subject interview (Katz uses and gratifications theory).
  • 4. Magazine Mind Map Masthead Colour scheme Types of images Frequency Brand identity Target audience MO Magazine Well known celebrities Monochrome + hints of yellow Following the eclectic convention of three primary colours. Yellow connotes: joyful, sunshine and light heartedness The Main image I will be using is a person I know that is a model. Monthly circulation – this is because not every popular artist is always coming out with new albums. Gives my magazine more time to find out information. Have an easy cover layout for everyone to remember Same colour scheme every new magazine C2 – E socio economics needs It would appeal to these demographics because of the magazines look and the type of language used and its target audience. MO – Monthly Ovation As it means Monthly Ovation, because of the knowledge and information that is within the magazine they will be able to give the magazine appreciation and enthusiasm.
  • 5. Magazine Mind Map Masthead Colour scheme Types of images Frequency Brand identity Target audience Catalyst Magazine Blue and white Well known celebrities that everyone can relate to Promotion of some new products and albums Weekly circulation- this is for the people who are into a lot of music and artists exclusives Makes my magazine look more motivated Make sure I have an easily recognizable front cover so people will see it and instantly know its my magazine Keep the colour scheme simple and constant Looking at the socio- economic needs table I will have my target audience will be from C2 –E in the socio- economic needs. The demographics of this magazine is towards working class and the younger generation (15- 24) because of the language used etc. Catalyst magazine – this is because it is another word used for motivation which I intend on showing a lot of when making my magazine My magazines of inspiration are mojo and Q because of their vast popularity in music magazines. The music genre is going to be Pop and RnB. Strapline Discover brand new music
  • 6. Magazine Mind Map Masthead Colour scheme Types of images Frequency Brand identity Target audience HMW Magazine Blue and white Weekly circulation- the reason why I chose to have weekly circulation is because of the large fan base of the hip hop genre, there is no time when there isn't news to fill our magazines. Makes my magazine look more motivated Making the masthead bold and short following the ways of XXL and Vibe will allow the magazine to look easy on the eye when it is in a shop etc. Keeping it plain but colorful Looking at the socio- economics table I will be targeting the sectors of D and E as the target audience is more of the younger generation. The demographics of this magazine is towards the younger generation (15- 21) because of the language used etc. HMW – this stands for ‘hourly, Monthly and Weekly’ the meaning of this is that the creators of this magazine, there will be people constantly working to find new interesting news to look exciting to attract new buyers. My magazines of inspiration are XXL and VIBE, the reason for this is because with these genres of music there is a much bigger audience which will mean that the magazine will be easier to sell. Hip-hop Strapline We never stop! It will have some of highest paid and most famous hip hop celebrities that are out making music in this year
  • 7. Font Styles MO magazine fonts Catalyst magazine fonts For MO magazine I have chosen these fonts because they reflect my intentions with this magazine, as you can see with some of my chosen fonts are more suited to my audience. Looking at font number three, it definitely target my audience of the socio-economic needs table which was from C2- E, this has an age range of about 15-25 meaning that I will need to make sure that my fonts are more informal as it will attract the targeted audience. looking at my fonts that I have selected for my second magazine called “Catalyst”, this magazine is targeted more towards people of a different taste to “MO” as the language in “Catalyst” magazine even though it is still targeted at C2-E, it is more formal.
  • 8. House Style - MO Colour scheme For MO magazine I will be using monochrome with hints of yellow. This is because using black and white will show the contrast of my magazine and how my magazine can bring sunlight to the darkness using the hints of yellow. I have decided to using yellow because I connotes sunlight and joyfulness. Font style For MO magazine I will be using the font style is known as ‘Arial rounded MT bold’. The reason for this is, I think that is a great font to go with my masthead, also because of my younger targeted audience as the font is rounded and bold it shows the informal side to my magazine, as I don’t intend on targeting anyone over the age of 25 and that aren't in the socio- economic needs sector that I have chosen. Social media MO magazine will be a synergy with all social medias. This is because I will then be able to reach out to a lot more people and possibly on a global scale eventually. Using the most popular social medias such as Instagram, Snapchat and twitter to promote and give my audience updates and possible exclusives.
  • 9. House style - Catalyst Colour scheme For my magazine, I will use colours such as Blue and White. This is because I will be taking a competitor such as Q and make my magazine look similar but more pleasing to my target audience. Further to this, I think that red and white does’t stand out like the colours blue and white do. Font style Looking at Catalyst magazine, the font I have chosen to use is called ‘Verdana’. I have chosen this font because it think it fits in perfectly with my masthead font and the colour scheme. On this magazine I will laying it out slightly different to MO magazine as I want the masthead of Catalyst to stand out a lot more, so I will be placing my in a different area. Social media Similarly to MO magazine I will be using all of the same social media platforms such as Instagram, snapchat and twitter. However, for this magazine I will add in Facebook because I will then be able to reach a further audience within its multi-million users.
  • 12. Mood Board Conclusion Billboard is a great example of what my magazine is inspired by because of their layout. With their famous celebrities on their covers they make them look powerful and glamorous, this is where I will be getting my layout ideas from. I have chosen Billboard, Q and HITS magazine as an inspiration of mine because as a whole they target anyone due to their genre that they have chosen has no target audience and they are listened to by a wide percentage of the population such as Justin Bieber, Adele and Ed Sheeran. For my Catalyst magazine I have selected NME as my inspiration because even though they are quite similar to others such as Q and Billboard they differ from these magazines due to their look on their front covers which gives it more of a rough edge on it making it look more presentable for an older audience.

  • 21. Hand Drawn Drafts Conclusion MO Front cover Out of the two designs I came up with, I prefer the one on the right because with the way they are laid out they nearly replicated my competitors’ magazines, but with my magazine I will make sure that my content a lot better than ‘Billboard’. Double page Looking at my double page designs, I think that the top one is better. This is because its layout is much neater and I think that I will be able to produce a magazine with that specific layout much easier than the bottom design. Catalyst Front cover As for these designs, I prefer the design on the right because is more unique when its compared to other competitors magazines. Double page For this, I will be using the design on the top because, I prefer it a lot more in comparison to the other design and I think with having more space for images it then makes it look more interesting to the audience
  • 22. Graphic Layout Conclusion caption Quote Text Text Photos Headline / stand verse Drop capital Text Masthead Headline or Anchorage text. Photo of artist barcode Puff promotion strapline Cover stories I have chosen these two graphic layouts because I preferred them to any of the other designs that I had created. Further to this, looking at my hand drawn drafts, these two overruled all of them as well just because of my thought process really paid off with the end result of these two.
  • 23. Conclusion Overall, the magazine I have put together will be called Catalyst and it will follow the colour scheme I have given it, with it masthead will be bold and all white. On the front cover there is going to be only one main image of an artist that is relevant, the type of camera shot is going to be mid shot as it give the fans a better look at their stature and what they look like. Further to this, my cover lines are going to be in line with the barcode, on the left side. On the other hand, my double page spread will have a mixture of different pictures with different camera shots. The reason for the variety is so that it doesn’t look too plain and simple to the reader and will look interesting to read. For one of the pages I will use a quote especially chosen by the artist that I have chosen for my magazine.
