2. Questionnaire Results
In order to gain more information about the expectations of my
target audience, I created a survey and posted the link onto social
media networks in order to gain a wide variety of responses. I
included 9 questions about genre conventions, expectations and
aspects of film trailers in order to allow me to create a film trailer
that will successfully appeal to my target audience.

3. Question 1 and 2
The most common age and gender
of the responses were 15-18 years
of age and female, showing that
the answers given in the survey
are from the correct age range for
the target audience. However the
survey responses are 68% female
which may create a bias
response, but as the genre is crime
thriller, it allows for neutral
opinions between genders.

4. Question 3 and 4
When asked how long they would expect a
movie trailer to be, the most popular answer
was 2-3 minutes long, this will allow me to
create a trailer that can advertise the film
effectively.
The most persuasive aspect of a
film trailer that will determine
whether or not a viewer watches
the film or not was voted the
storyline and featuring
actors/actresses. This highlights
the importance of a storyline
within a film and it’s portrayal
within a trailer but also the heavy
influence that actors have.

5. Question 5 and 6
Comedy was voted most popular over horror
and thrills within a film, however within the
crime thriller genre my target audience
interview concluded that comedy should be
subtle in order to keep the tone of the film.
Illegal behavior and violence proved to be
the most popular expectations for a crime
thriller trailer, however they where closely
followed by a variety of answers as they all
proved popular. This allows me to recreate
and include all the aspects of the genre the
audience expect to effectively appeal to the
audience.

6. Question 7 and 8
The results of the survey concluded that
the age of the characters within the
trailer have no effect on the popularity of
the trailer. Although the target audience
interview that I conducted highlighted
that spring breakers was enjoyable
because it followed a group of similar
aged girls.
Many different films were answered
such as World War Z, The Great Gatsby
and Despicable me, showing the variety
of genres watched by 15-18 year olds.

7. Question 9
The most popular form of
consumption was voted YouTube
followed by cinema. This emphasizes
the influence of the internet and viral
marketing over cinema advertising.
This information will allow me to
create an effective ad campaign that
will generate awareness.
