A Critique of the Proposed National Education Policy Reform
Questionnaire Analysis

2. Gender/ Audience
Male
Female
What gender are you?
By asking this question, it gives an idea of who
the target audience is, who watches the films
which the questions are relevant to; knowing
the gender of the person answering the rest of
the questions allows me to see what effect their
gender has on the answers to the questions. As
you can see, there is almost an even
distribution so the questionnaire is relatively
unbiased.

What age are you?
To see the effect what age has on the questions
answered. For example, some genre films, the
majority, will have an age restriction. Therefore
a person of 12 years of age may be different to
an 18 year old. As shown in the pie chart, there
is people across all ages, this may be helpful
when determining the kind of answers they
gave and how effective this is going to be (e.g.
An 11-13 year old might not watch many
romance films and therefore their answers may
not contribute to the results as effectively as an
older person would.)
3. Genre
Action
Comedy
Romance
Horror
Crime/Thriller
Drama
What is your favourite Movie genre?
This is one of the most important questions as it gives an
idea of the kind of films which appeal to people, and
therefore which would be best to deliver in the main task. It
was important to get this so that research could be done on
the genre chosen. In this case, from looking at the Pie chart,
it is evident that Romance is particularly popular, followed
by comedy. From research, it is typical for these two to go
together as Rom-Com movies. Lesser favoured genres were
Drama and crime and thriller.
4. Movies per week

How many Movies do you watch
per week, on average?
How many movies people watch
per week is significant because if
the people being questioned don't
watch a lot of movies, their
answers are going to be less
important because their
knowledge of the movies and
genre is limited. This could
question the validity of the
results.
As shown in the results, there was only 1 person’s answers who were
perhaps not as useful as the rest because they don’t watch a lot of films.
A large proportion of the people questioned watched 1-3 movies a
week. 56% of people watch at least at 1 film per week; this means that
24 people have useful answers when answering the questionnaire as the
one person has restricted knowledge.
5. What gender characters would you
expect to see as the lead roles in a
Romance film?
When deciding on a genre, it was
obvious that who would be in it
would be a huge part, what
characters. When deciding on a
romance film, I knew I needed to
consider what had already been
done, what’s typical, what’s unusual.
It seems that even despite societal
changes, when it comes to films, it is
still uncommon for the main roles in
film (romance or otherwise) to be of
the same gender.

Do you expect a romance film to
be comedic?
This highlights what other
features or conventions are in a
romance movie. As you can see
from the results, comedy is an
aspect in this genre. The majority
of the people who were
questioned said that they thought
comedy is a big part of romantic
films.
Gender Appeal
Men
Women
Both/Neither
Do you think Romance films appeal
more to men or to women?
This demonstrates that the main
target audience is likely to be
women, as most people seem to
think this is who it appeals more
to.

Music
What kind of music do you expect to hear in a Romance film?
This question gave a clear insight on what kind of music people would
expect to hear in the background of a romance film, triggering ideas for
what songs could relate to the ideas I already have.
8. Realistic?
Yes

Do you think Romance movies are
realistic?
The purpose of this question is more
about how relatable people find
Romance movies as a whole; do people
think that what happens in movies is a
good representation of romance.
I asked this question because I thought it
could give me and idea on how I could
make it more or less like a “typical”
romance movie opening.
As you can see, most said they think that
romance movies are unrealistic; in my
genre research I will look at how and why
this is.

What do you think
appears most in
romance movies?
This question was to
show what people
expect to be shown
in a romance film.
There is supposed
to be some drama
and twist so
arguments are
common, however,
typically there is the
“happily ever after”.
As the chart shows,
most are expecting
there to be lots of
date scenes and
typical romance,
which obviously
appeals more to
women than to men.
