2. QUESTION 1 AND 2, GENDER AND AGE?
Both question one and two
help to find out what kinds of
people are responding to our
questionnaire. By finding out
how old they are and there age
is especially useful to know
when creating a horror film
because other research
previously done by other
people show that gender and
age effect how an audience
views a horror film. Our results
show that everyone responding
are around the 15-20 mark and
male, however we will had a
large female/other response as
well. This shows us we are
dealing with the typical horror
audience.
3. QUESTIONS 3 AND 5, HOW OFTEN DO YOU
WATCH FILMS AND DO YOU PAY FOR FILMS?
This shows us how often our
audience watches films in general as
well as if they pay for them or not.
This is an unfortunate but needed
question because of the huge
increase in piracy of media in the
recent years. In response to the first
question most people said they
watched films between everyday
and once a week, and no one said
never. This is good because it shows
our audience is actively using the
media we want to create. The
responses to the second question
are good because although some
people admitted to not paying most
people do pay for movies which is
very important for the industry
overall as well as our own film trailer.
4. QUESTION 4 WHAT'S YOUR
FAVOURITE MOVIE GENRE AND WHY?
Question four helped us to find out what
kinds of movie genres they liked to watch.
Although this isn’t specific to horror films or
our trailer this question is useful because we
can see what our audience likes and can learn
more about the people we are targeting our
media product at.
5. QUESTIONS 6 AND 7, DO YOU LIKE HORROR
FILMS AND IF SO WHAT'S YOUR FAVOURITE?
This question unlike the one previous is much
more helpful in creating our product because it
gives us a more specific idea of what our audience
likes in regards to the horror genre. These results
tell us what people like to see to get scared as well
as what makes a horror film good to watch for
them. We can use this when thinking about what
to put in our own trailer to get people wanting to
6. QUESTION 8 AND 9 WHERE DO YOU WATCH
HORROR FILMS AND HOW OFTEN?
The results for question 9 How often do you
watch films at each place was not structured
very well and because of this the results were
very hard to use. However the average from all
the results was a few times a week and at
home.
We asked these questions so we could find out how
and where people watch movies so we could think
about how we will release and present our trailer, this
tells us if we should show it in a cinema before a
movie, in the trailers section on a DVD or if it should
be advertised digitally through media such as social
networking or something like YouTube ads.
From our results we found out that one, people much
prefer to watch movies at home and secondly that on
average watch moves a few times a week. This tells us
that advertising on DVD’s, streaming sites and social
networking would be the most effective way of
getting out movie out to our audience, however due
to more people using YouTube and our results
suggesting people like the cinema too we should still
think about the other forms of advertising we could
use.
7. QUESTION 10, WHAT MAKES YOU
WANT TO WATCH A HORROR FILM?
This is another question that massively helps us to create
a trailer that will grab the attention of our target
audiences. Form our results here we can see that overall
people need a horror film to be scary but to also have a
plot that is interesting enough that they want to keep
watching. People also talked about thinks like suspense
and the feelings they get when watching a horror as well
as the visuals themselves, both important parts of a
horror film that need to be considered in order to
producing a successful trailer.
8. QUESTION 11, WHAT DO YOU WANT TO
SEE IN A HORROR FILM?
A continuation of the last question, this narrows down
the key parts of a horror film that make it what it is.
Things like gore effects, scares and mood as well as a
well structured plot are all things people want to see
in a good horror film. Using all of these elements
when creating our trailer will give use a higher chance
of creating a successful trailer. Responses such as ‘a
non garbage script’ or a ‘well developed enemy’ really
struck me because it tells use people have seen
movies that don’t deliver on all the important parts of
a horror film, telling use that we need to avoid the
same mistakes.
9. QUESTIONS 12 AND 13 DO YOU THINK THE ACTORS OR DIRECTOR
INFLUENCES YOU TO WATCH A FILM? AND DO YOU THINK THE
MARKETING OF A FILM INFLUENCES YOU TO WATCH THE FILM?
The last questions although helpful if creating
a large big budget film is not that relevant to
or research, this is because even though we
found out weather people watch moves
because of who is in it or who made it because
our film trailer is student made both of these
will not effect our own product.
