1. What areas worked well?
The areas that worked well in my final product and throughout the planning and development were
the packaging of the can, the design was very simple throughout
my planning and I tried to tie all my ideas in with the Scottish
theme, I think this worked well because it brought an essence of
humour to the design and the message of the product, I also think
that keeping in line with a theme helps to develop ideas and
makes the product recognisable.
Another part of the development work that worked well was
choosing the colours to use for the design, I wanted to keep the
same colours that the original Irn-Bru cans had on theme again to
make sure it was recognisable to the public.
I think that my posters and magazine adverts worked really well to
because I again kept in line with the Scottish theme and made
sure that I included humour and images that people would know
from the past, I also used stereotypical photographs again for the
humour aspect of my products.
What areas could have done with more work?
I think I could have done more work on creating a range of different products and
making them more interesting because of the time period I was not able to spent
hours on the products to make them up to high standards compared to similar
products that exist already.
I also think that my slogans could have better work on them again the time period
I had wouldn’t allow me to take time to think of a good catchy slogan to add to my
product.
Another aspect of my work that I think I should have taken a little more time on is
some of the web banners because I took a long period of time to complete one
and rushed two more of my ideas which ended up in them looking rough and
sketchy.
What effect did you think your development stages had on the final
product?
I think developing my ideas was a good thing to do because my initial ideas were
not of high standards so creating mind maps and mood boards helped me to
develop and expand my ideas further until I was happy with the outcome.
Most of my initial ideas made it to the final products but they didn’t stay the same
as how I first wrote them down because I developed them by researching into
existing products and asking my target audience what they thought of my ideas.
I am happy with the product I managed to create and there are still small aspects
of my ideas included in the finished products but again most of them have been
developed and expanded.
