Evaluation question 7
1. What I have
learnt in the
process of
making a music
magazine
By Jade Leavesley
2. How have you approached the two tasks creatively? How clear were you with
each idea in the planning stages? Which task overall do you think best
showcases your creativity and why?
My planning materials helped a lot as they
made it easy to gather the materials together
that I needed quickly and easily as it was like
a checklist to me. At first my planning
materials were wrong as I changed my model
and the prop of a guitar was going to be
used it was replaced with a microphone I am
happy with the way my magazine turned out
from the plans that I used and I think it was
very successful of designing and producing
magazine photographs.
3. Can you provide examples of creative problem-solving decisions you have had
to make in relation to the development of ideas, stills photography, image
editing, desktop publishing. printing and trialing your work in progression from
the preliminary to the full product?
The college mag that I made in my
preliminary was good however there was
problems with it that I noted to make my
music mag much better. I did not many
cover lines and they were very bland and
boring with the typography used. In my
music magazine I think that the
typography and cover lines where much
more interesting and professional.
4. How did you organise your human resources, i.e. the other people involved in
production?
I spoke to people in my group and asked who
would be available to be my model as the
model from music tech cancelled on me so I
needed a new model fast. Communicating
to my peers helped me make fast important
choices and helped me to get an available
model . Communication also helped me to
know what time and how to use the camera
in photo shoot as well as advice when
improving my magazine.
5. How did you manage locations for photographs and any costumes and props?
Remember that deciding not to use a particular strategy (not to use any props
in photographs, for example) is also a creative decision.
My reccie form and costume design form from my
planning helped me as I knew exactly how I
wanted my model to look and the location was
booked out which was the photography studio in
BOA. The plan really helped me as I went along
with my decisions and this gave me more time for
the magazine creation itself.I think it was a good
decision to get my model to pose in different
position with a microphone as a prop at different
angles and levels as it gave me a wider variety of
photographs to choose from for my
magazine.However next time I would
6. How well did you research, plan and organise each product? Remember, this
includes everything in your research and planning, including the audience
questionnaire. How well did your research and planning help you when
creating the final product?
My research and planning helped as it
gave me precise times to complete a
certain task and helped me to make
decisions that were import to the
magazine e.g. representing a certain
stereotypical group through the clothing
of my model. took note to the audience
questionnaire and this helped me decide
on what music genre my magazine would
belong to and the social class.
7. Finally, how did you manage your time, and with what success?
I had a timetable which helped me to organise when
I would do a certain task e.g. use the studio to take
photos .
At the start of the process of the project I did not do
well for time as my original model cancelled on me
and I had to find a new model and change my idea
from creating an idol who is an indie band guitarist to
a solo pop singer. Despite these problems I believe
my time management was successful in the way that
when I came to making my actual three pages , I did
not need to rush and therefore I had time to include
effect aspects and qualities to make my magazine
look real and professional.
