1. The Concept of Competency:
It is an efficient, technical, social structure in which the trainer teach/train the trainee the
proper working methods and effective performance of a task in a real-life practical situation
that extends through learning by experience and practice to master a specific action.
What is a social structure, it summarises the general meaning of competency as the logo of
the competent, skilled individual which reflecting knowledge, skill and attitude through his
daily work, effective communication, problem-solving, critical thinking, collaborative, and
the most significant issue is that the competency grows and develop during his working life.
Competency-based training
This method of training focusing on performance instead of the cognitive framework in the
train of trainees. The trainee's performance assessment is base on the ability to apply the
training outcomes. (Trainees' technical capabilities in the labour market).
Levels of competencies
1. Limited, graduate, perform basic skills in the correct method.
2. Basic, sufficient enough to handle routine job tasks
3. Proficient, Ability to handle non-routine problems and situations with minimum
supervision.
4. Advanced, mastering the job skills, able to coach or train others.
5. Expert, competent in his work, problem-solving, able to give consultations and develop
methods of work,
Domains of competencies
Educational Competencies: Pedagogical
· Trainers role in the educational learning process.
· Preparation for teaching/training.
· Implementation of teaching/training.
· Application of teaching methods and techniques.
· Selection and use of learning materials and aids.
· The assessment of trainees works and providing feedback
· Suggesting Trainees about Progression and giving Career guidance.
Administrative and Supervisory Competencies:
· Development of training programs and aid in the review of curricula.
· Management, maintenance and enhancement of training facilities.
· Developing relationships with industry and the local community.
Professional Competencies:
The professional competencies included two aspects of competencies:
A: Technical Skills
B: Technical Knowledge is divide into three types:
a. Professional knowledge, necessary to apply skills required in the job.
b. General knowledge, hardware, tools Manufacture and raw materials
c. Knowledge of career guidance.
