2. Selling Points
• The selling points Q often uses is to
put someone famous on the
cover, this is attractive to fans.
• Also it stands out because they use
large images that cover the page.
• Also they often use clever effects
that stand out such as this guitar
breaking the masthead.
• They also use big fonts for the
important information.
• Another thing is they stick to their
specific colour scheme so they are a
well branded magazine.
• They stick to this in the contents too
which is easy to read.
3. Selling Points
• They are often eye catching so they make potential buyer
consider the product more and maybe look closer.
4. Specific Target
• The target for buyers would be
relatively young people who’s taste in
music is mainly alternative/indie/rock.
• However you can tell that people
younger than around 16 wouldn’t be
very interested in it due to it’s lack of
colour.
• Instead it has a bland colour scheme
contrasted with a red that runs
throughout most issues which gives it a
slightly more mature look.
• Another give away to it’s age range
would be the price, it is quite expensive
compared to similar magazines and so
older people generally would have
more cash to spend.
5. Specific Target
• Although I said 16+, this would be most popular for a 25+ age
range because of the content, young people might like acts
like those shown below but these were most popular in the
days of slightly older adults.
• I’d say it would be aimed at people who would by for
belonging needs because it is quite a specific genre.
• The demographic would be section E mostly but then C1s, C2s
and maybe Bs would also appeal to this magazine.
• You could say it is aimed at males but still has female readers.
6. How Are They Targeted?
• Here you can see the difference in
colour, the TOTP mag is colourful and pink so
aimed at young females whereas the Q
magazine is less colourful and has a cleaner
cover making it less fun and more
professional.
• Q also uses more words to draw people in
instead of pictures which might imply that
the older reader actually reads whereas
young girls would look at pictures.
• Again pricing would sway who bought the
product, younger people would be able to
afford TOTP because it is cheap but Q is
around £4 which would mean only adults
would really be able to afford it.
