3. Passive listening…??
Sitting in rows and listening…...

What’s in my
snack box
today?
Why is my friend absent
today?
When will I
get my
laptop?
What if I listen to
songs?
4. Why Change the classroom
scenario…..
Something that facilitates
involvement of every student.
About engaging students in the
learning by different learning
methodologies.
Differentiated learning….

5. Engaging every student by differentiated
instruction…..is it simple?
Is it possible to be implemented by all, at all
levels?
Is it possible to be implemented for all subjects
and topics?
What about the board classes?
Do teachers actually have time to find out the
ability of each child and work accordingly?
Even if we manage to change the classroom
senario, what happens to the assessments?
Then how can we bring a change in our classroom?

6. Making classroom
interesting..

Education is not the learning of facts, but the training of minds to think. -Albert
7. Engaging and creating interest..
ILAGenerate interest for the
topic, by investigative learning
approach.
When they actually perform
and see for themselves they
remember better.

approach by

The best teachers are those who show you where to look, but don’t tell you what to see.
–Alexandra Trenfor
8. Project based learning
Create a working model of
the digestive system-with a
twist.
Integrated project including
all sciences.
DEEPTHI UTHAMAN SNK SCHOOL
Teaching is more than imparting knowledge, it is inspiring change, learning is more than
absorbing facts, its is aquiring understanding- William Arthur Ward
9. Integrated PBL…Does it really
work?
Keeps them engaged in the topic.
Each student gets the opportunity
to do what he/she is good at.
Learn through peer teaching.
Different groups...competitive
spirit.
Regular formative assessments- to
know where the project has
reached (for both, student and
teacher)

10. Change for good..
Differentiated instruction in the
form of engaging students in our
classroom, is possible if we think
differently.
There may be hurdles, but teachers
need to take some risk and think
differently.
Time constraints are a major issue,
however, if we have the passion to
give the best to our students, then
we can bring the change.
Small risk can bring a renovation in
the lesson and this can be a reality.DEEPTHI UTHAMAN SNK SCHOOL

The education system from ancient times to current classroom.
Technological advances are seen, in the furniture and the room.
What about imparting knowledge?
Technological advances are seen…MMP smartboards etc.
The current design enables only one way flow- passive listening.
Why don’t we think of a different classroom sitting arrangement?
An arrangement that enables more of student- student and student –teacher interaction?
What is differentiated instruction- “different students are provided with different learning avenues regardless of difference in abilities”
How can we engage students in learning to ensure understanding
The hurdles that teachers face for implementing engaging students by differentiated instruction.
How I tried it in my classroom, simple activities… to engage students
How different activities were implemented
The progress from simple classroom activities to investigative learning approach
What is ILA- learning by performing experiments and disections
How it helped students.
ILA to project based learning and integrated PBL
Project – intially only Biology, then integrated all sciences
Benefits of PBL-its implementation
When learning is interesting –the retention is better
Every student gets an opportunity for a fair chance
Formative assessements help teacher and student to assess the learning
Modifying the instruction and assessment plan to suit our classroom
Teachers need to be confident and take risk to think differently
A small renovation in the LP can bring a great refreshing change to the classroom and the students.
