The ‘creative school’ where the children develop their original thinking by exploration and engagement sounds like utopia in the educational world. The academia is grappling with debates on whether schools today are killing creativity in children and if so, what is the way forward? The goal of the research paper is to uncover the softer aspects of the instruction which encourage and foster creativity in children. This project also involves discovering how a school could be creatively inclined and aims to develop creativity in its learners. We present the research and it findings for enabling schools to promote creativity in children.
the interaction between aptitude, process and environment , it implies that creativity is a complex variable which is dependent on both internal and external stimuli. The school environment is therefore, a distinct contributor to the development and fostering of creativity in children.
This research weaves the skeleton of a creative school through a unique exemplar which serves as a unit of analysis. The goal of the research paper is to uncover the softer aspects of the instruction which encourage and foster creativity in children. The selected school was assessed on its creative practices as against existing frameworks to identify linkages. The Qualifications and Curriculum Authority (2005) had listed some of the pedagogical activities that might underpin classroom creativity. It suggested that it is possible to indentify if pupils were thinking and behaving creatively in the classroom by using the following framework: (1) questioning and challenging; (2) making connections and seeing relationships; (3) envisaging what might be; (4) exploring ideas, keeping options open; and (5) reflecting critically on ideas, actions and outcomes
All the lesson plans are designed keeping in mind these six priorities. In classroom situations the teachers are encouraged to question till the child answers. The activities which we design focus on fostering creativity and imagination. The school with its priorities focuses on developing original ideas and thinking amongst students. When the school prioritizes imagination over knowledge, it believes in creative engagements, when the school chooses questions over answers it shows its inclination in fostering analytical and thinking skills. Pedagogical Practices are experiential Learning, learner centred pedagogy
The school environment must be creative and supportive to develop and foster creativity. Examples of some events like mehfil-e-avalon and stone age will be shared. (pictures for evidence and clarity)
For implementing Learner centred pedagogy school provides extensive induction training and support. As responsibility of learning shifts to learner, creativity develops.
A highly engaged student community due to creatively charged environment paving way for self expression and innovation, all facets of creativity.
It is required for sustainable prosperity of nations which depend largely on creativity.
