2. Background of NEP 2020
• National policy on education 1986/1992, RCFCEA 2009.
• SDG4: Ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and
promote lifelong learning opportunities for all by 2030.
• Vision is to provide high quality education to all.
• Education must be less content, more learning how to learn,
think critically, solve problems, creative and multidisciplinary.

• Diversity in course structure
• Theory loaded and less practice
• Lack of integration of content and pedagogy
• Lack of integration of ICT
• Traditional approach in transacting curriculum
• Least focus on affective development of trainees

• Short duration of internship in comparison to other professional
courses
• Ill equipped teacher educators
• Poor infrastructure facility like ICT, Lab, Library
• Privatization without monitoring by NCTE
• Teacher education as profitable business
• Research inputs are not included in syllabus and training

9. PRESENT STATUS OF TEACHER
Teachers shape the future of our children and nation
The quality of teacher edn, recruitment, deployment, service
conditions and empowerment of teachers is not in proper standard.
Hence, quality and motivation of teachers are very low.
Policy want to raise the respect and status of teaching profession.
10. RECRUITMENT AND DEPLOYMENT
MERIT BASED SCHOLARSHIP
FOR STUDYING INTEGRATED
BED.
TEACHER WITH LOCAL
LANGUAGES WILL BE
APPOINTED IN RURAL AREA.
LOCAL HOUSING/QUARTER IN
SCHOOL CAMPUS/INCREASED
HOUSING ALLOWANCES.
11. Excessive teacher transfer will be halted.
Transfer will be done through online
computerized
TET will be strengthen with content and
pedagogy
TET will be compulsory for all school teachers
(Foundational, preparatory, middle and
secondary)
TET score and classroom demonstration for
teacher recruitment.
12. Teachers in art, physical education,
vocational education & languages
must be available in school/school
complex.
School complex will hire local
eminent persons or experts as master
instructors in various subjects.
Technology based comprehensive
teacher recruitment planning will be
conducted by state.

Environment
and Culture
• Overhauling the service environment and
culture of school to maximize the ability of
teachers
• Decent and pleasant service conditions at
school
• School complex: effective governance,
resource sharing, and community building.

• Teachers will not be involved in non teaching
related work.
• Teacher will be given autonomy for choosing
pedagogy.

18. Professional
Standard of
Teachers
• National Professional Standard for Teachers
(NPST) by 2022-NCTE (PSSB)
• NPST would cover; role of teachers at
different levels, performance appraisal,
design of pre-service teacher education.
• NPST would be reviewed in every 10 years
19. Special educators
• Can be a second specialization in pre-service education
• Certificate course for special teachers in pre-service education
• In-service teacher education by full time/part time/ blended
20. Approach to Teacher Education
Teacher education to move into Multidisciplinary
colleges and universities.
Minimum qualification for teacher is 4 year
integrated BEd with strong practicum teaching.
2 year BEd programme would be offered for
graduates by Multidisciplinary colleges
21. Approach to Teacher Education
• 1 year BEd for 4 year graduates/ master degree
• BEd cum would include; recent pedagogy, multilevel
teaching and evaluation, teacher disable children, use of
technology, learner centred and collaborative learning.
• Include fundamental duties, environmental awareness,
conservation and sustainable development.
22. Approach to Teacher Education
• Special shorter local teacher education programme for
eminent local persons at BITEs, DIETs
• Shorter post-Bed certificate course by Multidisciplinary
colleges on teaching disabilities, leadership management
• NCFTE by 2021
• Action for stand alone teacher education institutions
