DIAGNOSIS
10. TREATMENT VIRAL CONJUNCTIVITIS
ďIdoxuridine ophthalmic solution.
ďVidarabine 3% ophthalmic ointment.
ďTrifluridine ophthalmic solution.
ďVaccination with the intranasal herpes and calicivirus vaccine.
ďAcyclovir (Oral) used in severe or poorly responsive cases.
11. TREATMENT OF BACTERIAL
CONJUNCTIVITS
ďEyedrop containing antibodies and ointments are selected based on
the culture of bacteria.
ď1-2 % Boric acid solution is usually used for flushing of eye.
ďFlurbiprofen as 0.03% is the drug of choice to check the inflammation
ďPhenylephrine 10% solution can be used to reduce erythema and
chemosis
ďSystemic antibiotic should be given
ď§ Amoxicillin-10-20mg/kg orally
ď§ Ceftriaxone-10-20mg/kg i/m i/v
ď§ OTC-5-10mg/Kg-i/m i/v
12. TREATMENT OF CONJUNCTIVITS CAUSED BY NON
INFECTIVE AGENT
ďAfter identification removal of the foreign body.
ďCorrection of the eyelid defect.
ďProtection from the exogenous factor.
ďCorticosteroids are used in non infective disorders-
ďąDEXAMETHASONE PHOSPHATE-0.1%
ďąBETAMETHASONE DISODIUM PHOSPHATE-0.1%
ďąPREDNISOLONE-1%
ď1-2 % Boric acid solution is usually used for flushing of eye
ď2 % solution of sodium chromo glycolate is usually given as anti
allergic.
ďEyedrop containing antibodies and ointments are used.
13. TREATMENT OF PARASITIC
CONJUNCTIVITS
ďApplication of local anesthetic and the careful removal of the
worms from the eye.
ďA dose of 1 mg/lb. of ivermectin given subcutaneously has been
shown to cure infestations.
