Witness statement
Feedback
• These feedback sheet are very important to have as this way I can now see what everyone sees when I am
presenting my pitch. Also they give me extra feedback at the bottom of the sheet so now I can know what I
need to keep the same and what I missed out and need to improve to make sure that this pitch and my
work is to a professional standard.
Pitch corrections
I missed out the profit and loss breakdown so I had to add it to my pitch. This was an important slide
to put in because with out this slide I would not know how many magazines I would need to sell
before I stat making a profit and it also helped me to put in perspective how much money I need to
make in order to pay all my staff.
Pitch corrections
I had also missed out on a risk assessment which I made sure to add after I had all planed
for any of the risks and filled out the sheet I just had forgotten to add it in. this was
important to add because if I had not done this and something had gone wrong I wouldn’t
know what to do.
Breakdown for survey
From this first question I can see that my presentation went well as the average of what
people thought of my presentation was out of 100 was 78. I think this is good however it
does men that I had done a few things wrong so I will need to improve to make sure that my
magazine can reach the best standard.
From my two magazine I can see that people prefer Riff I think this will be of the brighter colours and
the way the front page was structured. This was disappointing as this was not my chosen magazine
so if I was to go back I would pick Riff as this is what people like more and I would be more likely to
sell more copy's.
From asking the question what did people most like about my front cover this helped me to see what I
should keep the the same in my magazine and in each mouthy copy. So what I should keep the same in
the colours and the layout of the front cover as I now know that these features will draw in customers.
From asking how to improve on my pitch people said that I need to make sure that my ideas are
well explained and that I actually know all the ideas that I intended to get across. It was important
to ask this question so I can put in all the features that I needed to as well as making sure that if I
had present a magazine to a company I would know what I needed to do.

This is where the

step in important
because the

not want too put
too much on one
page so it will

Calendar events
• I need to make sure that I get my magazine done on time as it is set
to be finished for the 21st of February this is the end of the half term
so I will hope that because lots of my target audience will be off
school they will have more time to go out and buy my magazine. Also
it will give my workers a bit of an extended brake before coming back
to work meaning the will be refreshed and ready to go onto the next
project. I think this will be the best time to release the magazine
because this way I might be able to get ahead of other competitors
as it is a holiday people might just want to buy a magazine as they
have time off. So I might be able to get a few more extra buyers if I
release the magazine in this time.
My chosen magazine front cover, DPS and back page
I have chosen these as my final magazine because I think that they will
best suit my target audience and this means that the magazine will be
more likely to sell more copy's. Also I think that this magazine had a
better layout so it will mean that my readers and customers passing by
the magazine will be more likely to read the pages and buy the
magazine.
Profit and loss breakdown
• I have to make sure that I am making money even though I am
spending a lot.
I will be making 14,515 on advisements however I will lose money on
equipment, staff and print cost which will come to 537,301.55 so over
all I will need to sell 537,570 copy's of my magazine before I star
making a profit.
Risk assessment
I had to make sure to do a risk
assessment as I needed to make sure
that nothing went wrong and hat I had
all the backups that I needed and to
make sure that if anything else went
wrong I would be ready for it.
For example if the camera was to run
out of charge I would either have a
back up camera or battery or I had my
phone charged with the camera ready.
Also I had to make sure that know one
would walk in as I was doing my
presentation as it would put me off and
slow down the flow and I will be more
likely to lose my train of thought.

Royalties
• Royalties is when a magazine has included content which is
copyrighted and if someone else includes this information
then they have pay the original magazine.
• The NLA are a newspaper licensing company which sell
copying licenses to newspapers and now magazine content.
Therefore, NLA ensures that each publisher get their
royalties. Q magazine and other magazine owned by Bauer
Media are subscribe to the NLA. This means that any
magazine that is owned by Bauer Media can use information
that they has been put in magazine that Bauer also owns, as
long as the magazine and Bauer confirm that it is allowed.
• However if a magazine wants information from another
magazine that is not owned by the same company but is
signed up with NLA they can take the information but they
will have to contact the magazine before hand.
• For my magazine I will make sure to sign it up with NLA so this
way I can be protected against other company's trying to take
my content.
Regulatory Issues
IP/Watermark
Content that usually has copyright can be referred to as Intellectual Property (IP) and this is protected by
the law. IP can be divided into two categories; Industrial Property and Copyright. As well as IP on printed
work, you can get a digital watermark which protects any copyrighted content from any magazine online
and in any digital format. It is important to have this because it means people will have to pay you to use
your information and ideas. The best way to protect your IP is to acquire a patent. However, this can
take several years to get and costs over ÂŁ5000.
Magazines such as Q will not have water marks because it will make the magazine look bad so instead
they will write the copy wright information on the inside of the front cover.
Source: https://www.ipso.co.uk/about-ipso/
I will not use watermarking in my magazine because it will not make the
magazine look good however in some of my images I will put a small bit of
information saying that the images are under a law that they can not be
copied if they are being used to make money.
Regulatory issues
Advertising Standards Authority:
• Advertisers can choose to self and co-regulate on a
voluntarily and paid for bases
• Their purpose and strategy is to ensure every UK advert is a
responsible one.
• Complaints can be made direct to ASA who publish their
findings to ensure a rigorous process is in place.
Source: https://www.asa.org.uk/codes-and-rulings/advertising-codes.html
Committees of Advertising practice
offer advice and guidance as well as a
formal complaints procedure for people
to carry out.
An example of this is
KFC advert received
755 complaints in 2017
making it the most
complained about
advert that year.
To conclude I will try to make sure in my magazine that I will offend the least amount of
people and if there are any complaints I will make that I am covered against them. This
way my magazine can not have a bad reputation and people will like the magazine
because of this.
Data Protection Act (1998)
The Data Protection Act 1998 is an act of the United Kingdom Parliament showing the ways in which information about people may be
legally used and handled. The main intent is to protect individuals against misuse or abuse of information about them.
The main principles of DPA 1998 says that personal data must:
• Be processed fairly and lawfully.
• Be obtained only for lawful purposes and not processed in any manner incompatible with those purposes.
• Be adequate, relevant and not excessive.
• Be accurate and current.
• Not be retained for longer than necessary.
• Be processed in accordance with the rights and freedoms of data subjects.
• Be protected against unauthorized or unlawful processing and against accidental loss, destruction or damage.
• Not be transferred to a country or territory outside the European Economic Area unless that country or territory protects the rights
and freedoms of the data subjects.

Data-Protection-Act-1998-DPA-1998
Finally from this side I will make sure that in my magazine that there is no flaws that will not
cooperate with the data protection act. This way my magazine will have a good reputation
for following the rules.

Editors Code and practice
Children - Children must not be approached or photographed at school without permission of the authorities of the
school. If under 16, children must not be interviewed/photographed on issues involving their own or another child’s
welfare unless their parent/guardian agrees.
Children in sex cases – under no circumstances should the press identify children under 16 who are victims or
witnesses in cases involving sex offences. In any press report involving a sexual offence against a child, the child must
not be identified, the adult is able to be identified. The word "incest" cannot be used where a child victim might be
identified.
Hospitals – a journalist must identify themselves while also getting permission from an executive before entering any
non-public areas of hospitals (or similar institutions to pursue enquiries).
Reporting crime - Unless genuinely relevant to the story, relatives/friends of people being convicted/accused of crime
should not be identified without their consent. Unless a child's name is published, the editor should avoid identifying
anyone under the age of 16 unless there is consent from the parent/guardian.
Clandestine devices and subterfuge – the press must not publish or obtain information from secret cameras, listening
devices or intercepting phone calls, emails texts etc. without consent.
Victims of sexual assault – there must be no information or material published that could lead to the identification of a
victim.
Discrimination – details of someone's race, colour, religion, gender identity, sexual orientation, physical or mental
illness or disability must not be mentioned unless genuinely relevant to the story. The press must avoid prejudicial or
pejorative reference to someone’s, race, colour, religion, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation or to any physical or
mental illness or disability.
Editors Code and practice
Financial journalism - Journalists must not use for their own profit financial information they receive in advance of its general
publication, and they should not pass information onto others. They must not write about shares or securities in whose performance
they know that they or their close families have a significant financial interest without disclosing the interest to the editor or financial
editor. They must not buy or sell any shares or securities which they have written recently or intend to write later on.
Confidential sources - Journalists have a moral obligation to protect confidential sources of information.
Witness payments in criminal trials – there should be no payment/offer to a witness or anyone considered to be a witness. If there is
a payment/offer made to someone who later then gives evidence, it must be disclosed to the prosecution and defence. The witness
must also be advised of this.
Payment to criminals – there should be no payment/offers for stories, pictures or information, which look to exploit a crime or to
glorify crime generally. Payment must not be made directly to the criminal, via agents to convicted/confessed criminals or to the
criminals associates, this includes family, friends and colleagues.
The public interest – The public interest includes, but is not confined to: Detecting or exposing crime, or the threat of crime, or
serious impropriety.
• Protecting public health or safety.
• Protecting the public from being misled by an action or statement of an individual or organisation.
• Disclosing a person or organisation’s failure or likely failure to comply with any obligation to which they are subject.
• Disclosing a miscarriage of justice.
• Raising or contributing to a matter of public debate, including serious cases of impropriety, unethical conduct or incompetence
concerning the public.
• Disclosing concealment, or likely concealment, of any of the above.
Copyright
• Copyright ©- is when there is a legal right which lasts for a certain amount of time so you can’t print, publish,
perform, film, or record literary, artistic or musical material that already exists. The copy write law changed in 1998
allowing writers and photographers to have their on rights for photocopying in a paper form.
• Content that usually has copyright can be referred to as Intellectual Property (IP) and this is protected by the law. IP
can be divided into two categories; Industrial Property and Copyright. As well as IP on printed work, you can get a
digital watermark which protects any copyrighted content from any magazine online and in any digital format. It is
important to have this because it means people will have to pay you to use your information and ideas. The best
way to protect your IP is to acquire a patent. However, this can take several years to get and costs is over ÂŁ5000.
About ABC:
ABC delivers certification the dater in the content with in the magazine meets industry standers. It verifies all the
dater in a magazine to make sure it is correct at the time of print. It also protects any advertisers using the magazine.
“members of ABC = nothing in the magazine may be reproduced in whole or in part without the written permission of
the publishers”
• This is important to have on my magazine as it means that no one will be able to take any of my magazines content
and ideas. As if anyone was to take my ideas or content I would be able to sue against them because I have all the
legal information to stop them form making any more money off it and to get it removed.
Conclusion
• In this part of work have had to look at a lot of different aspects of my magazine I started by
looking at corrections that I had to make to my pitch and the feedback that I got from it. This was
good because it helped me to see what I had done well and what I had not done so well and
needed to improve on. After this I went back to look at my production plan it is important to
always be looking as my production plan because if was to fall behind when making my magazine
it would not be good for the company and I would start to lose money for every day that the
magazine is not out in stores. Then I went on to quickly looking at why I had chosen the magazine
that I had this was good because I need to be confident with the magazine that would be
published and put into stores. Next I looked at when I would be spending money and how I would
be making money back this was important because I needed to know how many copies of my
magazine I needed to sell before I start making a profit, plus I needed to work out how much I
would be paying my employees and how much I would be spending on equipment. After this I
looked into different types for copy write this is a very important step because if my magazine is
not protected all my magazines content could be taken and used by other magazines, therefor
there would be no point on me producing a magazine.

  • 3. Feedback • These feedback sheet are very important to have as this way I can now see what everyone sees when I am presenting my pitch. Also they give me extra feedback at the bottom of the sheet so now I can know what I need to keep the same and what I missed out and need to improve to make sure that this pitch and my work is to a professional standard.
  • 4. Pitch corrections I missed out the profit and loss breakdown so I had to add it to my pitch. This was an important slide to put in because with out this slide I would not know how many magazines I would need to sell before I stat making a profit and it also helped me to put in perspective how much money I need to make in order to pay all my staff.
  • 5. Pitch corrections I had also missed out on a risk assessment which I made sure to add after I had all planed for any of the risks and filled out the sheet I just had forgotten to add it in. this was important to add because if I had not done this and something had gone wrong I wouldn’t know what to do.
  • 6. Breakdown for survey From this first question I can see that my presentation went well as the average of what people thought of my presentation was out of 100 was 78. I think this is good however it does men that I had done a few things wrong so I will need to improve to make sure that my magazine can reach the best standard.
  • 7. From my two magazine I can see that people prefer Riff I think this will be of the brighter colours and the way the front page was structured. This was disappointing as this was not my chosen magazine so if I was to go back I would pick Riff as this is what people like more and I would be more likely to sell more copy's.
  • 8. From asking the question what did people most like about my front cover this helped me to see what I should keep the the same in my magazine and in each mouthy copy. So what I should keep the same in the colours and the layout of the front cover as I now know that these features will draw in customers.
  • 9. From asking how to improve on my pitch people said that I need to make sure that my ideas are well explained and that I actually know all the ideas that I intended to get across. It was important to ask this question so I can put in all the features that I needed to as well as making sure that if I had present a magazine to a company I would know what I needed to do.
  • 10. Monday Tuesday Wednesday Thursday Friday Saturday Sunday Date of Publication This day all the people working on the magazine will come together to decide the date of when the magazine will be produced and so people will know when they need to have their jobs done by. Managing the Schedule Also like The date of publication the will be making sure that everybody that has been given there job will get it done in time for the date of publication. Editorial and budgetary decision On this day people will discus and choose the different articles that they will be writing about this is will be done to make sure that no article are repeated and to make sure there is no reputation in the style of articles. • 13. Calendar events • I need to make sure that I get my magazine done on time as it is set to be finished for the 21st of February this is the end of the half term so I will hope that because lots of my target audience will be off school they will have more time to go out and buy my magazine. Also it will give my workers a bit of an extended brake before coming back to work meaning the will be refreshed and ready to go onto the next project. I think this will be the best time to release the magazine because this way I might be able to get ahead of other competitors as it is a holiday people might just want to buy a magazine as they have time off. So I might be able to get a few more extra buyers if I release the magazine in this time.
  • 14. My chosen magazine front cover, DPS and back page I have chosen these as my final magazine because I think that they will best suit my target audience and this means that the magazine will be more likely to sell more copy's. Also I think that this magazine had a better layout so it will mean that my readers and customers passing by the magazine will be more likely to read the pages and buy the magazine.
  • 15. Profit and loss breakdown • I have to make sure that I am making money even though I am spending a lot. I will be making 14,515 on advisements however I will lose money on equipment, staff and print cost which will come to 537,301.55 so over all I will need to sell 537,570 copy's of my magazine before I star making a profit.
  • 16. Risk assessment I had to make sure to do a risk assessment as I needed to make sure that nothing went wrong and hat I had all the backups that I needed and to make sure that if anything else went wrong I would be ready for it. For example if the camera was to run out of charge I would either have a back up camera or battery or I had my phone charged with the camera ready. Also I had to make sure that know one would walk in as I was doing my presentation as it would put me off and slow down the flow and I will be more likely to lose my train of thought.

  • 20. Royalties • Royalties is when a magazine has included content which is copyrighted and if someone else includes this information then they have pay the original magazine. • The NLA are a newspaper licensing company which sell copying licenses to newspapers and now magazine content. Therefore, NLA ensures that each publisher get their royalties. Q magazine and other magazine owned by Bauer Media are subscribe to the NLA. This means that any magazine that is owned by Bauer Media can use information that they has been put in magazine that Bauer also owns, as long as the magazine and Bauer confirm that it is allowed. • However if a magazine wants information from another magazine that is not owned by the same company but is signed up with NLA they can take the information but they will have to contact the magazine before hand. • For my magazine I will make sure to sign it up with NLA so this way I can be protected against other company's trying to take my content.
  • 21. Regulatory Issues IP/Watermark Content that usually has copyright can be referred to as Intellectual Property (IP) and this is protected by the law. IP can be divided into two categories; Industrial Property and Copyright. As well as IP on printed work, you can get a digital watermark which protects any copyrighted content from any magazine online and in any digital format. It is important to have this because it means people will have to pay you to use your information and ideas. The best way to protect your IP is to acquire a patent. However, this can take several years to get and costs over ÂŁ5000. Magazines such as Q will not have water marks because it will make the magazine look bad so instead they will write the copy wright information on the inside of the front cover. Source: https://www.ipso.co.uk/about-ipso/ I will not use watermarking in my magazine because it will not make the magazine look good however in some of my images I will put a small bit of information saying that the images are under a law that they can not be copied if they are being used to make money.
  • 22. Regulatory issues Advertising Standards Authority: • Advertisers can choose to self and co-regulate on a voluntarily and paid for bases • Their purpose and strategy is to ensure every UK advert is a responsible one. • Complaints can be made direct to ASA who publish their findings to ensure a rigorous process is in place. Source: https://www.asa.org.uk/codes-and-rulings/advertising-codes.html Committees of Advertising practice offer advice and guidance as well as a formal complaints procedure for people to carry out. An example of this is KFC advert received 755 complaints in 2017 making it the most complained about advert that year. To conclude I will try to make sure in my magazine that I will offend the least amount of people and if there are any complaints I will make that I am covered against them. This way my magazine can not have a bad reputation and people will like the magazine because of this.
  • 23. Data Protection Act (1998) The Data Protection Act 1998 is an act of the United Kingdom Parliament showing the ways in which information about people may be legally used and handled. The main intent is to protect individuals against misuse or abuse of information about them. The main principles of DPA 1998 says that personal data must: • Be processed fairly and lawfully. • Not be transferred to a country or territory outside the European Economic Area unless that country or territory protects the rights and freedoms of the data subjects. Source - http://whatis.techtarget.com/definition/UK- Data-Protection-Act-1998-DPA-1998 Finally from this side I will make sure that in my magazine that there is no flaws that will not cooperate with the data protection act. This way my magazine will have a good reputation for following the rules.
  • 25. Editors Code and practice Children - Children must not be approached or photographed at school without permission of the authorities of the school. If under 16, children must not be interviewed/photographed on issues involving their own or another child’s welfare unless their parent/guardian agrees. Children in sex cases – under no circumstances should the press identify children under 16 who are victims or witnesses in cases involving sex offences. In any press report involving a sexual offence against a child, the child must not be identified, the adult is able to be identified. The word "incest" cannot be used where a child victim might be identified. Hospitals – a journalist must identify themselves while also getting permission from an executive before entering any non-public areas of hospitals (or similar institutions to pursue enquiries). Reporting crime - Unless genuinely relevant to the story, relatives/friends of people being convicted/accused of crime should not be identified without their consent. Unless a child's name is published, the editor should avoid identifying anyone under the age of 16 unless there is consent from the parent/guardian. Clandestine devices and subterfuge – the press must not publish or obtain information from secret cameras, listening devices or intercepting phone calls, emails texts etc. without consent. Victims of sexual assault – there must be no information or material published that could lead to the identification of a victim. Discrimination – details of someone's race, colour, religion, gender identity, sexual orientation, physical or mental illness or disability must not be mentioned unless genuinely relevant to the story. The press must avoid prejudicial or pejorative reference to someone’s, race, colour, religion, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation or to any physical or mental illness or disability.
  • 26. Editors Code and practice Financial journalism - Journalists must not use for their own profit financial information they receive in advance of its general publication, and they should not pass information onto others. They must not write about shares or securities in whose performance they know that they or their close families have a significant financial interest without disclosing the interest to the editor or financial editor. They must not buy or sell any shares or securities which they have written recently or intend to write later on. Confidential sources - Journalists have a moral obligation to protect confidential sources of information. Witness payments in criminal trials – there should be no payment/offer to a witness or anyone considered to be a witness. If there is a payment/offer made to someone who later then gives evidence, it must be disclosed to the prosecution and defence. The witness must also be advised of this. Payment to criminals – there should be no payment/offers for stories, pictures or information, which look to exploit a crime or to glorify crime generally. Payment must not be made directly to the criminal, via agents to convicted/confessed criminals or to the criminals associates, this includes family, friends and colleagues. The public interest – The public interest includes, but is not confined to: Detecting or exposing crime, or the threat of crime, or serious impropriety. • Protecting public health or safety. • Protecting the public from being misled by an action or statement of an individual or organisation. • Disclosing a person or organisation’s failure or likely failure to comply with any obligation to which they are subject. • Disclosing a miscarriage of justice. • Raising or contributing to a matter of public debate, including serious cases of impropriety, unethical conduct or incompetence concerning the public. • Disclosing concealment, or likely concealment, of any of the above.
  • 27. Copyright • Copyright ©- is when there is a legal right which lasts for a certain amount of time so you can’t print, publish, perform, film, or record literary, artistic or musical material that already exists. The copy write law changed in 1998 allowing writers and photographers to have their on rights for photocopying in a paper form. • Content that usually has copyright can be referred to as Intellectual Property (IP) and this is protected by the law. However, this can take several years to get and costs is over ÂŁ5000. About ABC: ABC delivers certification the dater in the content with in the magazine meets industry standers. It verifies all the dater in a magazine to make sure it is correct at the time of print. It also protects any advertisers using the magazine. “members of ABC = nothing in the magazine may be reproduced in whole or in part without the written permission of the publishers” • This is important to have on my magazine as it means that no one will be able to take any of my magazines content and ideas. As if anyone was to take my ideas or content I would be able to sue against them because I have all the legal information to stop them form making any more money off it and to get it removed.
  • 28. Conclusion • In this part of work have had to look at a lot of different aspects of my magazine I started by looking at corrections that I had to make to my pitch and the feedback that I got from it. This was good because it helped me to see what I had done well and what I had not done so well and needed to improve on. After this I went back to look at my production plan it is important to always be looking as my production plan because if was to fall behind when making my magazine it would not be good for the company and I would start to lose money for every day that the magazine is not out in stores. Then I went on to quickly looking at why I had chosen the magazine that I had this was good because I need to be confident with the magazine that would be published and put into stores. Next I looked at when I would be spending money and how I would be making money back this was important because I needed to know how many copies of my magazine I needed to sell before I start making a profit, plus I needed to work out how much I would be paying my employees and how much I would be spending on equipment. After this I looked into different types for copy write this is a very important step because if my magazine is not protected all my magazines content could be taken and used by other magazines, therefor there would be no point on me producing a magazine.
