Snapchat
Purpose
• The purpose of snapchat is for users to be able to socialize with each other just
by sending videos and picture. The app was first launched in 2011 by Evan Spiegel
and Bobby Murphy. The main purpose and the reason snapchat does so well is
that when you send your photo it will only last a few seconds before going never
to be seen again. You can also post pictures onto your story with will tend to be
about what the user is up to and this will last up 24 hours before going forever.
• Over the more recent years they have have added stickers and bitmojis which are
animated versions of the user that they have created. This has added a more fun
feature to have a personal side to the app.
Content
There are lots of different features on Snapchat other
that just sending pictures to other users. There are lots of
different features that help the user to use the app.
At the top of the contacts and messages page
there is a search bar that allows the user to look up
all the contacts that they have on snapchat
There is a box underneath the name of this
contact this means that I have opened the
picture from this friend and that I have not
replied to it.
Under this friends name is a sort of triangle
this shows the user that they have sent their
message and that they have not opened it.
They way the user will know that the user has
not opened it is because when the shape
underneath is not a full color and is just
outlined with the colour then they will know
it have been opened.
On the top left of the screen
there is an icon of the users
bitmoji this will open up another
page where the user can see and
use other features.
Next to the bitmoji there is a
search bar and this can used to
find contacts, to find new people
and to search public story's and
information.
On the top right of of the
screen there are another two
icons the one on the left will be
used for turning flash on the
camera on and off. Left of this
is another icon which is just
used to flip the camera around
In the bottom middle of the
screen there is a big cycle this is
used to take photos and if held
down to take videos.
In the bottom left of the screen
there is an icon that looks like a
speech box this will take you to the
page that I talked about on the slide
before
In the bottom right of the screen there
is a button that looks like two boxes side
by side this will take you to the page
that I look into on the next slide.
Finally under the cycle in the middle
this is a button that when tapped
will open up another page which
just works as a gallery where all the
users images that they have wanted
to save have been saved.
Extra features
If you tap the screen
it will open up this
extra feature which
are lots of different
types of camera
filters which can
change the users
appearance and
there are also some
side games.
If the taps on their Bitmoji on the slide
before this is the page that will come
up.
If another person on Snapchat was
to take a photo of the the Snapchat
code (which is the the yellow box in
the top middle) the other user can
add them as a friend straight away.
This box allows the user to edit
their Bitmoji.
This allows the user to see what
trophies the have unlocked this
is done by doing different
things on Snapchat.
This box takes Snapchat's that
the users has saved and allows
them to export them.
This box allows the user to
take an image that they had
saved from before and
unload it to their story.
The top bar is used so that the
user and search for any thing that
they want to see on this page this
might be information or just silly
things that they user wants to
see.
In the section that friends above
it this is where the users friends
stories will appear. Stories are
things that the user will upload it
will be seen by everyone in their
contacts but it will only stay up for
24 hours.
Then the next two sections are
personal to the user. Snapchat
have lots of different extra
articles and custom Snapchat
features that the users can
chose to look at or subscribe
to.
Target audience
Hartley’s 7 subjects
• Age - Snapchat's main aim for target audience would be between the ages of 14 – 25 as this will focus on users that are
on their phones a lot more than the older generation.
• Gender- the gender is mostly aimed at females however a lot of males will still use snapchat but a lot of the added
filters are only aimed at the female audience.
• Class- the class is appealing to the social groups of C1,C2,D and E
• Ethnic – snapchat is an American made app which means most of the users are from the United States. Snapchat is
available in different country’s this means it has a wide range of ethnicity's as it is world wide.
Katz uses and gratification theory
• Personal relationships- Because Snapchat is a photo messaging app that means for the users to use the app the have to
send a photo this makes users develop relationships as the images will be personal.
Maslow’s Hierarchy of needs
Social Climbers - Snapchat stories has led to be a great way for celebrity's to interact with there fans as snapchat users can
chose to subscribe to the favorite celebrity’s this means that the celebrity’s can talk to and interact with there fans and
give them updates on events and advertise them selves as much as they want all for free.
Sources of Revenue
• Snapchat has geo-filters which users can purchase. This allows the user to
create and design their own filter that they can use in a certain locations
this might be where a party is taking place or a special event. The price of
the geo-filters starts at ÂŁ5.99 and then can increase depending on how
many days they user wants it for or the size of the location that they want
the geo-filter to cover. The geo-filter will need to be made in advance to
the event because Snapchat needs to check to see if the design is
appropriate and this will take a few days to check.
• Snapchat will also make most of its money from company's wanting to
advertise their business. They will charge $10,000 per month, however this
in the minimum budget, so company's might be paying more than this. The
price will mainly depend on what type of company it is and what they want
to display. There are two types of advisements that company’s can go with
one is a simple add that will pop up when the user is going though stories
Legal and ethical
The Data Protection Act 1998 is an act that exists in the UK which which states that the way
that information about people should be handled in a legal way. The main purpose of this
act is to provide protection to people therefore protection there personal data from being
missed used.
The main rules of the Act are listed below:
• Be processed fairly and lawfully
• Be accurate and current
• Not be retained for longer than necessary
• Be protected against unauthorized or unlawful processing and against unauthorized or
unlawful processing and against accidental loss or damage
• Be obtained only for lawful purposes.
All the social medias that I have talked about (Instagram, Snapchat and Facebook) will have
to abide by all these rules if they do not then the company can be fined and sent to court.
Instagram
Purpose
• The purpose of Instagram is for users to shear photos to their
followers and other people that will want to see what they are up to.
It can not just aperea on their own page but also on the explore page
which is where users can go to look at people that Instagram think
they might like to look at.
• Also it is a way for people to interact over images that they have seen
as they can send them the photo in a privet group when they can talk
and socialize.
On the top left is where the user can access his
settings where you go to edit the app in ways that
the user wants to.
The in this section the user can see there posts
count follower count and and people count for
how many the user is following
Then this button is used for the user to
change things in there profile that people will
see such as the profile picture, name of the
account or the users bio (this is anything that
the user wants to type and let people see).
This area at the bottom is where the user can
see all the pictures that they have uploaded.
The first button above where the pictures
displays the pictures in a grid format. The one
in the middle displays the users pictures in a
different in a different this way the person
viewing the images can see all the information
on the picture such as the like count and
comments on the photo. Then the one on the
left will show a different page but full of images
that the users has been tagged in. This is when
there is a photo of the user on someone else
page and they have chosen to tag them in the
picture.
At the bottom of the page there are five
different buttons these remain on the screen
no matter what page you are on it is used as
a navigation.
The one on the far right with a small image in
it will bring you to the page that we are on at
the moment.
The icon in the shape of
the heart is where all
the users information
on there account comes
up. Such as when the
account gets a follow
request or a like or
comment on their
picture.
When you click on the home icon it
will bring you to this page.
The top left button with the image
of the user profile picture, it will
allow the user to open up and
create a story. This means that any
one that is following them can see
what they post on their story.
People tend to fill their stories with
things that they are up to.
The top right of the screen will take the user
to there Direct Messages this will just be
messages between the user and other
people just like texting.
Then in the big area blow is where the user
can look at , like , comment and save
images that people have posted. They will
come up in cohomological order and the
user swipes down the page the long the
photo has been uploaded for.
Also from seeing the image that another
user has posted they then have a direct
link to there page by tapping along the top
where it says their name.
This page is called the explore
page and it is used main for
users to look at things that they
like to look at. To get to this page
you click on the magnified glass.
Instagram TV is a new thing that
allows user to watch longer video of
the things that the want to watch.
For example mine has come up with
football highlights this is because I
have looked and I follow lots of sport
related accounts.
If I keep scrolling down there are an
endless amount of clips and videos for
me to watch this is a good way for
users to stop just looking and the same
images until other users post as now
they can go and look at stuff the might
be interested in.
Along the top there is a search
bar that is used for looking p
people that the user might
want to see. But the searching
and also be made to look at
different types of searches such
as the different kind of
hashtags that people use on
there images. It can also be
used to look for images that
have been take in different
locations these are good ways
for the users to look for images
of content that they might
want to follow.
Target user
• Hartley’s subjectivities
• Age: on Instagram 59% of there users are in the ages of 18-29 this will because Instagram's main marketing is
aimed at these ages this is stated in the content before you download the app.
• Gender – of the 59% , 38% of the people will be female as they tend to use the app more than than the male
percentage which will be 26%
• Class- the Instagram classes would mainly focus on areas that tend to be considered as higher class such as C1,C2,
D and E this is because these people all want to show there best life to other people and Instagram allows them to
show off.
Katz’ uses and gratification theory
Personal Relationship/ Inform and Educate- As well as users of Instagram building personal relationships with there
followers though all the different posts. To make sure that they do not make any mistakes they do not send any
direct messages or post anything that cause any problems. There are accounts that will just focus on things such as
food or people interests these are just so people can show them selves.
Maslow’s Hierarchy of needs
Social Climbers – This applies to Instagram as many celebrities within the public eye. They will use Instagram to grow
their fans base and to show all their followers what they are up to and how there lives are going.
Sources of Revenue
• Instagram is able to make money though mainly sponsorships posts
from different companies that want advertise. These posts will appear
on the users feed so when they are scrolling through all the images of
the people that they follow, the add will be included in with the users
feed. There is nothing that the users can do about the adverts that
come up however they can say weather or not they like it or is they
have any problems with it. So when the next advert comes up they
will hope that the next add will be linked to the user.
Legal and Ethical Issues
• Copyright is when a producer of a product has legal rights over the product. So this way it is protected against any one that might want to use
the product to make money. For the product to be used by someone else the producer will have to give authorization. If authorization is not
given and someone does use the product then they could face legal actions against them. For Instagram they say that a user can post what
ever they want within reason and as long as it does not disagree with Instagram's Terms of Use and Community Guidelines. If a user does not
co-operate with the terms then either the image will be taken down and the users account will be deleted, or the user will be told to remove
the image by a specific time or the account will be removed.
• IP stands for intellectual property which is defined as having the correct type of intellectual property protection to prevent other individuals
from taking or copying the work that you might have produced.
The Data Protection Act 1998 is an act that exists in the UK which which states that the way that information about people should be handled in a

Facebook
Purpose
• Facebook is a social networking website that is free to join. It was
founded in 2004 by Mark Zuckerberg along with Eduardo Saverin,
Dustin Moskovitz and Chris Hughes. It was first available on the web
but then progressed to an app on apple and Android. It allows users
that are registered on the website to create their own profile, upload
posts such as photos and videos into albums or their timelines/wall
and communicate with friends from different parts of the world.
Facebook has public features such as events which allows users to
create an even, invite guests and see who is available to attend, pages
which lets users make and promote a page to the public that is based
on a specific topic. In June 2017 Facebook had 2 billion monthly
active users.
Content Search Bar
The search bar will be on the top of any page
that is selected on Facebook it allows the
users to look up anything that might be on
the Facebook such as a group an event or a
person.
Messenger button
This button is a shortcut button which
will take the user to the messenger app
which will need to be installed
separately
Stories
This is where users can update there
status for all there friends to see this
is so they can see what they are up to.
Friend request page
This is where friend requests from
other factbook users. Also the friend
request page has reamended people
Content
Explore feed
This is where you can find everything that
the user is involved with from events
groups and anything that the user might
have liked, commented on or shared.
Notifications page
This page will show users what everyone
is up on the app. It will show the user
things from peoples birthdays, what they
have shared and events that they might
be going to.
Content
User profile
This is where the user can change and edit what
people see about them. For example the can change
their profile picture which is what people will see first
before other users go onto their page. Also this is
when they can upload photos, where people can like
and comment on them in there time line which is
accessed by just scrolling down the page. They can
also write updates about what they are up to and
possibly where they are going by giving a link from
their location.
Target user/ Membership
Hartley’s 7 subjectivities
Age – 88% of users within the ages of 18 – 29 years olds use Facebook as this group of people will use it to
communicate with friends and family. But especially from people that live long distances apart as it is easy and they
can be updated quickly with lots of information.
Class – Facebook will be used mainly by people in the social classed of C1,C2,D and E as people is these groups will use
the app to talk to friends that do not live near and struggle to communicate by just calling and texting.
Ethnicity- as Facebook was started in the USA the majority of the users are make up the Facebook users and the other
main users are from Europe and other areas of Asia.
Katz uses and gratification theory
Personal relationship – Facebook allows the users to develop relationships with other users as the can have personal
conversations with each other no matter when in the world they are. Also if a user posts a picture with or of another
users then they can tag them so other people can see and it will also come up on the other users timeline. These both
mean that people can have and keep in communication with each other allowing them to build or keep a personal
relationship.
Maslow’s Hierarchy of needs
Caregivers – Facebook in always very good at keeping peoples information safe and stop people that try to bully and
troll other users by sending other users hateful and mean messages. So Facebook make it clear in adverts that will
appear as users or scrolling down there feeds, that they will remove accounts that do so or ban the user for an amount
of time.
Sources of Revenue
• The main income for Facebook in there advisements where
companies will create an ads to go into Facebook and pay them to put
up so when users are going thought their feeds it will be part of the
feed. But the ads will not be random to a users as Facebook will look
at the ads that the users has looked at and take them into
consideration so the ads are what they want to see.
• Facebook also has games that will be linked to all ages and liked by
everyone such as Pacman, Farmville ect. Because these apps are
made by other companies so they will have to Facebook in order to
get onto there games this will make up about 30% of their revenue.
Legal and Ethical Issues
• Copyright is when an author has legal rights into creating copies, licenses and other work relating to the stories and content presented on the website whichever the format and is
entitled to owning that work that requires authorized access for it to be used by other individuals if the author gives permission. Based on the content that is on the featured on
Facebook, the person that created the original copy, they have all the rights over the creation. It will be looked into if there is ever a court case as it is easy for ideas and content to be
copied on social media and passed around but all images will have dates for when they get posted to it will be easy to trace back to its source.
• Intellectual property is defined as having the correct type of property protection to prevent other individuals from steeling or copying your work. This can be applied to the names of
certain products or brands. Through getting IP, this will mean that you can get a patent as this prevent as this anyone from using your information without permission. There is an IP
license that is linked to the user’s account which grants Facebook a royalty-free, transferable and worldwide license to use any IP content that the user posts on or in relation with
Facebook.
• For royalties, this will be given to those who has legal ownership of their own work and someone else wants to use their work but this is based on how much money will be will be
earned through this. Because Facebook is loyalty-free, this means that they will have to make contribution fee to use lots of different images for the content.
The Data Protection Act 1998 is an act that exists in the UK which which states that the way that information about people should be handled in a legal way. The main purpose of this act is

Positive and Negatives of Social Media
Positives Negatives
Snapchat The picture is deleted once the time period
is up.
You can see who has viewed you stories
You send photos from your gallery
It will inform you when someone has screen
shotted your picture.
It does not work online on a computer.
It is very easy to add someone or to get hold
of there name.
It does not offer anything other than just
talking to people
Facebook You can create events and see how many
people are coming and want to come.
It is world wide so it makes it easy to
communicate with anyone.
It is very good at letting people see what
they want to see as well as involving more
important issues.
It is very easy to miss things out such as a
friends post because they receive other
things in there feed.
There are lots of fake accounts so you can
never be sure weather or not you are talking
to the real person
Instagram It is an easy way of seeing what people are
up to even if you don’t talk to them or have
lot tough.
It is a great way for people to grow the
businesses as people will hear about it and
go to follow them.
There are lots of fake accounts so you can
never be sure weather or not you are talking
to the real person
Social Media Survey Monkey
This here shows some of the comments that people
have made about stoical medias and what I should
keep he same and what I will change when creating
my website and app this is so I will gather the most
amount of users
I will also take inspiration from Instagram and ns
Snapchat as his is what people use the most out of
the social medias that I listed.
Viral Marketing
It is a method of marketing where by the consumer
are encouraged to share information about a
companies goods and serveries via the internet.
Viral marketing encourages users to pass messages
onto other users
3 components:
1. Messenger
2. Message its self
3. Environment
All three need to be effective in order for viral
marketing to be successful. The role of viral
marketing is to create a marketing buzz
Advantages:
- Customers are doing the advertising for you –
cheaper, lower cost.
- Faster growth
- Mainstream media exposure
- Rapid lead generation
Disadvantages
- Its not targeted to specific people so it will cost a
lot.
For Facebook, Instagram and Snapchat they all use viral marketing to promote them selves
and other companies. They do this by communicating with their massive fanbases. So what
they will do is produce the form of marketing, this might be an advert an image or maybe
even a poster. This will then go out to the world as soon as it is released and will go viral as
so many people will see it and go and tell all their friend and people they know, This is as
long as the form of advertisement is interesting and different so people will have not seen
anything like it before.
The social media can also do viral marketing for other
people so when celebrity’s want their brad to get out
they can pay the social media company's to advertise
what they want advertised so that it will go viral and
they make more money.
Marketing
There is also normal marketing that is used so that people can make money and
all social platforms so this to make money and work together with other people
and build relationships .
Product service review
This review on Instagram
summarizes what people think
about the app and that is that
parents think that it is not good
for children unless the are more
mature, they also say that the app
is not safe as it is all about judging
each other. However most young
people think that the app is a
good way of communicating and
talk to their friends and seeing
what they are up to.
This app has a massive difference in opinions
as young people think that the app I fin and
safe for all of them. To use but the parents
think that this app is a bad influence and that
children should not be using as they are more
of a subject to abuse
For Facebook this is the worst
rated app that I have looked at
as people do not think that the
app is any good anymore as it
was good at first but not it has
gone down hill when trying to
keep up with the more popular
social media.
Conclusion
• From doing this work it has helped me to see what I need to include
on my own app. Such as from looking at Instagram it has shown me
that an easy and simple layout will help users to navigate around the
app, and that they will be more likely to use it is they understand how
it all works. From looking at Snapchat it has shown my that if the user
can personalize different areas they will like it more as they have a
different area to the app that they can spend a small amount time
doing and enjoying it. Finally from looking at Facebook it shows me
that people want to be able to communicate with each other no
matter where they are.

  • 5. Purpose • The purpose of snapchat is for users to be able to socialize with each other just by sending videos and picture. The app was first launched in 2011 by Evan Spiegel and Bobby Murphy. The main purpose and the reason snapchat does so well is that when you send your photo it will only last a few seconds before going never to be seen again. You can also post pictures onto your story with will tend to be about what the user is up to and this will last up 24 hours before going forever. • Over the more recent years they have have added stickers and bitmojis which are animated versions of the user that they have created. This has added a more fun feature to have a personal side to the app.
  • 6. Content There are lots of different features on Snapchat other that just sending pictures to other users. There are lots of different features that help the user to use the app. At the top of the contacts and messages page there is a search bar that allows the user to look up all the contacts that they have on snapchat There is a box underneath the name of this contact this means that I have opened the picture from this friend and that I have not replied to it. Under this friends name is a sort of triangle this shows the user that they have sent their message and that they have not opened it. They way the user will know that the user has not opened it is because when the shape underneath is not a full color and is just outlined with the colour then they will know it have been opened.
  • 7. On the top left of the screen there is an icon of the users bitmoji this will open up another page where the user can see and use other features. Next to the bitmoji there is a search bar and this can used to find contacts, to find new people and to search public story's and information. On the top right of of the screen there are another two icons the one on the left will be used for turning flash on the camera on and off. Left of this is another icon which is just used to flip the camera around In the bottom middle of the screen there is a big cycle this is used to take photos and if held down to take videos. In the bottom left of the screen there is an icon that looks like a speech box this will take you to the page that I talked about on the slide before In the bottom right of the screen there is a button that looks like two boxes side by side this will take you to the page that I look into on the next slide. Finally under the cycle in the middle this is a button that when tapped will open up another page which just works as a gallery where all the users images that they have wanted to save have been saved. Extra features If you tap the screen it will open up this extra feature which are lots of different types of camera filters which can change the users appearance and there are also some side games.
  • 8. If the taps on their Bitmoji on the slide before this is the page that will come up. If another person on Snapchat was to take a photo of the the Snapchat code (which is the the yellow box in the top middle) the other user can add them as a friend straight away. This box allows the user to edit their Bitmoji. This allows the user to see what trophies the have unlocked this is done by doing different things on Snapchat. This box takes Snapchat's that the users has saved and allows them to export them. This box allows the user to take an image that they had saved from before and unload it to their story.
  • 9. The top bar is used so that the user and search for any thing that they want to see on this page this might be information or just silly things that they user wants to see. In the section that friends above it this is where the users friends stories will appear. Stories are things that the user will upload it will be seen by everyone in their contacts but it will only stay up for 24 hours. Then the next two sections are personal to the user. Snapchat have lots of different extra articles and custom Snapchat features that the users can chose to look at or subscribe to.
  • 10. Target audience Hartley’s 7 subjects • Age - Snapchat's main aim for target audience would be between the ages of 14 – 25 as this will focus on users that are on their phones a lot more than the older generation. • Gender- the gender is mostly aimed at females however a lot of males will still use snapchat but a lot of the added filters are only aimed at the female audience. • Class- the class is appealing to the social groups of C1,C2,D and E • Ethnic – snapchat is an American made app which means most of the users are from the United States. Snapchat is available in different country’s this means it has a wide range of ethnicity's as it is world wide. Katz uses and gratification theory • Personal relationships- Because Snapchat is a photo messaging app that means for the users to use the app the have to send a photo this makes users develop relationships as the images will be personal. Maslow’s Hierarchy of needs Social Climbers - Snapchat stories has led to be a great way for celebrity's to interact with there fans as snapchat users can chose to subscribe to the favorite celebrity’s this means that the celebrity’s can talk to and interact with there fans and give them updates on events and advertise them selves as much as they want all for free.
  • 11. Sources of Revenue • Snapchat has geo-filters which users can purchase. This allows the user to create and design their own filter that they can use in a certain locations this might be where a party is taking place or a special event. The price of the geo-filters starts at ÂŁ5.99 and then can increase depending on how many days they user wants it for or the size of the location that they want the geo-filter to cover. The geo-filter will need to be made in advance to the event because Snapchat needs to check to see if the design is appropriate and this will take a few days to check. • Snapchat will also make most of its money from company's wanting to advertise their business. They will charge $10,000 per month, however this in the minimum budget, so company's might be paying more than this. The price will mainly depend on what type of company it is and what they want to display. There are two types of advisements that company’s can go with one is a simple add that will pop up when the user is going though stories
  • 12. Legal and ethical The Data Protection Act 1998 is an act that exists in the UK which which states that the way that information about people should be handled in a legal way. The main purpose of this act is to provide protection to people therefore protection there personal data from being missed used. The main rules of the Act are listed below: • Be processed fairly and lawfully • Be accurate and current • Not be retained for longer than necessary • Be protected against unauthorized or unlawful processing and against unauthorized or unlawful processing and against accidental loss or damage • Be obtained only for lawful purposes. All the social medias that I have talked about (Instagram, Snapchat and Facebook) will have to abide by all these rules if they do not then the company can be fined and sent to court.
  • 14. Purpose • The purpose of Instagram is for users to shear photos to their followers and other people that will want to see what they are up to. It can not just aperea on their own page but also on the explore page which is where users can go to look at people that Instagram think they might like to look at. • Also it is a way for people to interact over images that they have seen as they can send them the photo in a privet group when they can talk and socialize.
  • 15. On the top left is where the user can access his settings where you go to edit the app in ways that the user wants to. The in this section the user can see there posts count follower count and and people count for how many the user is following Then this button is used for the user to change things in there profile that people will see such as the profile picture, name of the account or the users bio (this is anything that the user wants to type and let people see). This area at the bottom is where the user can see all the pictures that they have uploaded. The first button above where the pictures displays the pictures in a grid format. The one in the middle displays the users pictures in a different in a different this way the person viewing the images can see all the information on the picture such as the like count and comments on the photo. Then the one on the left will show a different page but full of images that the users has been tagged in. This is when there is a photo of the user on someone else page and they have chosen to tag them in the picture. At the bottom of the page there are five different buttons these remain on the screen no matter what page you are on it is used as a navigation. The one on the far right with a small image in it will bring you to the page that we are on at the moment. The icon in the shape of the heart is where all the users information on there account comes up. Such as when the account gets a follow request or a like or comment on their picture.
  • 16. When you click on the home icon it will bring you to this page. The top left button with the image of the user profile picture, it will allow the user to open up and create a story. This means that any one that is following them can see what they post on their story. People tend to fill their stories with things that they are up to. The top right of the screen will take the user to there Direct Messages this will just be messages between the user and other people just like texting. Then in the big area blow is where the user can look at , like , comment and save images that people have posted. They will come up in cohomological order and the user swipes down the page the long the photo has been uploaded for. Also from seeing the image that another user has posted they then have a direct link to there page by tapping along the top where it says their name.
  • 17. This page is called the explore page and it is used main for users to look at things that they like to look at. To get to this page you click on the magnified glass. Instagram TV is a new thing that allows user to watch longer video of the things that the want to watch. For example mine has come up with football highlights this is because I have looked and I follow lots of sport related accounts. If I keep scrolling down there are an endless amount of clips and videos for me to watch this is a good way for users to stop just looking and the same images until other users post as now they can go and look at stuff the might be interested in. Along the top there is a search bar that is used for looking p people that the user might want to see. But the searching and also be made to look at different types of searches such as the different kind of hashtags that people use on there images. It can also be used to look for images that have been take in different locations these are good ways for the users to look for images of content that they might want to follow.
  • 18. Target user • Hartley’s subjectivities • Age: on Instagram 59% of there users are in the ages of 18-29 this will because Instagram's main marketing is aimed at these ages this is stated in the content before you download the app. • Gender – of the 59% , 38% of the people will be female as they tend to use the app more than than the male percentage which will be 26% • Class- the Instagram classes would mainly focus on areas that tend to be considered as higher class such as C1,C2, D and E this is because these people all want to show there best life to other people and Instagram allows them to show off. Katz’ uses and gratification theory Personal Relationship/ Inform and Educate- As well as users of Instagram building personal relationships with there followers though all the different posts. To make sure that they do not make any mistakes they do not send any direct messages or post anything that cause any problems. There are accounts that will just focus on things such as food or people interests these are just so people can show them selves. Maslow’s Hierarchy of needs Social Climbers – This applies to Instagram as many celebrities within the public eye. They will use Instagram to grow their fans base and to show all their followers what they are up to and how there lives are going.
  • 19. Sources of Revenue • Instagram is able to make money though mainly sponsorships posts from different companies that want advertise. These posts will appear on the users feed so when they are scrolling through all the images of the people that they follow, the add will be included in with the users feed. There is nothing that the users can do about the adverts that come up however they can say weather or not they like it or is they have any problems with it. So when the next advert comes up they will hope that the next add will be linked to the user.
  • 20. Legal and Ethical Issues • Copyright is when a producer of a product has legal rights over the product. So this way it is protected against any one that might want to use the product to make money. For the product to be used by someone else the producer will have to give authorization. If authorization is not given and someone does use the product then they could face legal actions against them. For Instagram they say that a user can post what ever they want within reason and as long as it does not disagree with Instagram's Terms of Use and Community Guidelines. If a user does not co-operate with the terms then either the image will be taken down and the users account will be deleted, or the user will be told to remove the image by a specific time or the account will be removed. • IP stands for intellectual property which is defined as having the correct type of intellectual property protection to prevent other individuals from taking or copying the work that you might have produced. The Data Protection Act 1998 is an act that exists in the UK which which states that the way that information about people should be handled in a legal way.
  • 22. Purpose • Facebook is a social networking website that is free to join. It was founded in 2004 by Mark Zuckerberg along with Eduardo Saverin, Dustin Moskovitz and Chris Hughes. It was first available on the web but then progressed to an app on apple and Android. It allows users that are registered on the website to create their own profile, upload posts such as photos and videos into albums or their timelines/wall and communicate with friends from different parts of the world. Facebook has public features such as events which allows users to create an even, invite guests and see who is available to attend, pages which lets users make and promote a page to the public that is based on a specific topic. In June 2017 Facebook had 2 billion monthly active users.
  • 23. Content Search Bar The search bar will be on the top of any page that is selected on Facebook it allows the users to look up anything that might be on the Facebook such as a group an event or a person. Messenger button This button is a shortcut button which will take the user to the messenger app which will need to be installed separately Stories This is where users can update there status for all there friends to see this is so they can see what they are up to. Friend request page This is where friend requests from other factbook users. Also the friend request page has reamended people
  • 24. Content Explore feed This is where you can find everything that the user is involved with from events groups and anything that the user might have liked, commented on or shared. Notifications page This page will show users what everyone is up on the app. It will show the user things from peoples birthdays, what they have shared and events that they might be going to.
  • 25. Content User profile This is where the user can change and edit what people see about them. For example the can change their profile picture which is what people will see first before other users go onto their page. Also this is when they can upload photos, where people can like and comment on them in there time line which is accessed by just scrolling down the page. They can also write updates about what they are up to and possibly where they are going by giving a link from their location.
  • 26. Target user/ Membership Hartley’s 7 subjectivities Age – 88% of users within the ages of 18 – 29 years olds use Facebook as this group of people will use it to communicate with friends and family. But especially from people that live long distances apart as it is easy and they can be updated quickly with lots of information. Class – Facebook will be used mainly by people in the social classed of C1,C2,D and E as people is these groups will use the app to talk to friends that do not live near and struggle to communicate by just calling and texting. Ethnicity- as Facebook was started in the USA the majority of the users are make up the Facebook users and the other main users are from Europe and other areas of Asia. Katz uses and gratification theory Personal relationship – Facebook allows the users to develop relationships with other users as the can have personal conversations with each other no matter when in the world they are. Also if a user posts a picture with or of another users then they can tag them so other people can see and it will also come up on the other users timeline. These both mean that people can have and keep in communication with each other allowing them to build or keep a personal relationship. Maslow’s Hierarchy of needs Caregivers – Facebook in always very good at keeping peoples information safe and stop people that try to bully and troll other users by sending other users hateful and mean messages. So Facebook make it clear in adverts that will appear as users or scrolling down there feeds, that they will remove accounts that do so or ban the user for an amount of time.
  • 27. Sources of Revenue • The main income for Facebook in there advisements where companies will create an ads to go into Facebook and pay them to put up so when users are going thought their feeds it will be part of the feed. But the ads will not be random to a users as Facebook will look at the ads that the users has looked at and take them into consideration so the ads are what they want to see. • Facebook also has games that will be linked to all ages and liked by everyone such as Pacman, Farmville ect. Because these apps are made by other companies so they will have to Facebook in order to get onto there games this will make up about 30% of their revenue.
  • 28. Legal and Ethical Issues • Copyright is when an author has legal rights into creating copies, licenses and other work relating to the stories and content presented on the website whichever the format and is entitled to owning that work that requires authorized access for it to be used by other individuals if the author gives permission. Based on the content that is on the featured on Facebook, the person that created the original copy, they have all the rights over the creation. It will be looked into if there is ever a court case as it is easy for ideas and content to be copied on social media and passed around but all images will have dates for when they get posted to it will be easy to trace back to its source. • Intellectual property is defined as having the correct type of property protection to prevent other individuals from steeling or copying your work. This can be applied to the names of certain products or brands. Through getting IP, this will mean that you can get a patent as this prevent as this anyone from using your information without permission. There is an IP license that is linked to the user’s account which grants Facebook a royalty-free, transferable and worldwide license to use any IP content that the user posts on or in relation with Facebook. • For royalties, this will be given to those who has legal ownership of their own work and someone else wants to use their work but this is based on how much money will be will be earned through this. Because Facebook is loyalty-free, this means that they will have to make contribution fee to use lots of different images for the content. The Data Protection Act 1998 is an act that exists in the UK which which states that the way that information about people should be handled in a legal way. The main purpose of this act is to provide protection to people therefore protection there personal data from being missed used. • 30. Positive and Negatives of Social Media Positives Negatives Snapchat The picture is deleted once the time period is up. You can see who has viewed you stories You send photos from your gallery It will inform you when someone has screen shotted your picture. It does not work online on a computer. It is very easy to add someone or to get hold of there name. It does not offer anything other than just talking to people Facebook You can create events and see how many people are coming and want to come. It is world wide so it makes it easy to communicate with anyone. It is very good at letting people see what they want to see as well as involving more important issues. It is very easy to miss things out such as a friends post because they receive other things in there feed. There are lots of fake accounts so you can never be sure weather or not you are talking to the real person Instagram It is an easy way of seeing what people are up to even if you don’t talk to them or have lot tough. It is a great way for people to grow the businesses as people will hear about it and go to follow them. There are lots of fake accounts so you can never be sure weather or not you are talking to the real person
  • 31. Social Media Survey Monkey This here shows some of the comments that people have made about stoical medias and what I should keep he same and what I will change when creating my website and app this is so I will gather the most amount of users I will also take inspiration from Instagram and ns Snapchat as his is what people use the most out of the social medias that I listed.
  • 32. Viral Marketing It is a method of marketing where by the consumer are encouraged to share information about a companies goods and serveries via the internet. Viral marketing encourages users to pass messages onto other users 3 components: 1. Messenger 2. Message its self 3. Environment All three need to be effective in order for viral marketing to be successful. The role of viral marketing is to create a marketing buzz Advantages: - Customers are doing the advertising for you – cheaper, lower cost. - Faster growth - Mainstream media exposure - Rapid lead generation Disadvantages - Its not targeted to specific people so it will cost a lot. For Facebook, Instagram and Snapchat they all use viral marketing to promote them selves and other companies. They do this by communicating with their massive fanbases. So what they will do is produce the form of marketing, this might be an advert an image or maybe even a poster. This will then go out to the world as soon as it is released and will go viral as so many people will see it and go and tell all their friend and people they know, This is as long as the form of advertisement is interesting and different so people will have not seen anything like it before. The social media can also do viral marketing for other people so when celebrity’s want their brad to get out they can pay the social media company's to advertise what they want advertised so that it will go viral and they make more money. Product service review This review on Instagram summarizes what people think about the app and that is that parents think that it is not good for children unless the are more mature, they also say that the app is not safe as it is all about judging each other. However most young people think that the app is a good way of communicating and talk to their friends and seeing what they are up to. This app has a massive difference in opinions as young people think that the app I fin and safe for all of them. To use but the parents think that this app is a bad influence and that children should not be using as they are more of a subject to abuse For Facebook this is the worst rated app that I have looked at as people do not think that the app is any good anymore as it was good at first but not it has gone down hill when trying to keep up with the more popular social media.
  • 34. Conclusion • From doing this work it has helped me to see what I need to include on my own app. Such as from looking at Instagram it has shown me that an easy and simple layout will help users to navigate around the app, and that they will be more likely to use it is they understand how it all works. From looking at Snapchat it has shown my that if the user can personalize different areas they will like it more as they have a different area to the app that they can spend a small amount time doing and enjoying it. Finally from looking at Facebook it shows me that people want to be able to communicate with each other no matter where they are.
