2. Two girls are new to a school. They
both share a secret about an
abduction that they thought was in
the past.
Subtle hybrid with mystery
because of the abduction and the
secret.
Genre
These films are all similar in the narrative as they follow
conventions of teen dramas, and they follow similar narratives to
our trailer, such as the manipulation and the two characters are
the outcasts, which subverts the stereotype of having one
individual outcast.

5. Promotional Campaign
Creating a brand image:
Colours: For the colours we will be going for red as the colour for the titles in our trailer and any writing on our
promotional images. This is because red connotes all the key themes of the film: Action, violence,
blood and romance. We may also use this colour in the film with props, such as shoes or clothes or
makeup, we also might symbolistic red objects to enforce the colour scheme. Also, for the background
of our posters and promotional images we will be using dark grey sky-like background, so that the
overcast weather reflects on the darkness of the plot. In order to represent this in the teaser trailer we
will apply darker, greyer filters to the shots so that the colouring and lighting matches the same style
as the other promotional pieces. This will create an identity.
Characters: We are hoping that by using the same characters in the trailers, posters and other promotional forms,
we will be creating a brand identity by people recognising the characters and the putting them into
the movie.
Pink props and details: We may also include the colour pink in our props and costume, hair and makeup. This is because the
pink will remind the audience that it is a traditional teen, female-based drama still, and also make it
clear that the target audience is predominantly aimed at females. We may use this colour in statement
forms for certain characters, for example, one always wears a pink hairband, or pink lipstick.
The USP of our film is that unlike
most other female-aimed chick
flick teen-dramas, we have
incorporated mystery and an
action side to it, whereas usually
it is just based on relationships
and social hierarchies at school.
This makes it more interesting
and hopefully will attract a larger
audience.
We would show
this by including
snippets of the
mystery into our
trailer.
Aspects of the film we will
emphasise:
• Genre
• Narrative Themes
• Character
representation
Genre: We will emphasise genre in order to appeal to the right and traditional target audience. Our main genre is teen drama, and by using mainly teenage representation and ensuring that
our brand image and trailer shows a dramatic storyline, we will have enforced the teenage drama genre. By using the colour red, and also including scenes that hint towards violence, we
are also indicating towards an action sub-genre, making it a hybrid. We may also include a romantic element and link that into the use of the colour red, this would widen the target
audience even more, making it appeal to a larger group of people.
Narrative Themes: We will emphasise narrative themes by sticking to the colour scheme and dark editing in order to remind the audience that the themes are mystery, action and romance.
We will also make it clear in the trailer by including snippets that show the shots from the abduction scene and then scenes that leave the audience wondering what is going to happen next
and what the big secret is.
Character Representation: The character representation will be emphasised as it is key to the story that Jess is presented as a sort-of villainous character, not very likeable but interesting to
watch. We will include dialogue and scenes in our trailer to reflect this. We will also include Sophie and Ellie in the trailer as they are the other two main characters, they will also have
scenes with dialogue to show that they are meant to be likeable and reflect the differences between each character.
6. Teaser Idea
• Setting : In college
• Key events : we plan to include the arrival of the two new girls,
them acting suspicious, Jess finding out they have a secret and
starting to get obsessive trying to find out the secret.
• Voice Over : Jess does the voice over for teaser trailer and
portrays her obsessive and psycho side as she talks about how
she knows everyone's secrets and needs to find out theirs. The
voice over is a key aspect of the teen drama genre.
• Text and Graphics : We will have text inserts throughout the
trailer which will include quotes from the film as well as the
introduction of new characters, the institutional information and
name of the film. The inserts will have a black background with a
red rose on and simple white text. In each insert a petal will fall
off/be missing from the rose until the title of the film is revealed
and the remaining petals fall off. The rose and petals falling off
connote as sense of mystery within the film.
• Editing ideas : we plan to use montage editing to show the key
parts of the film without showing the whole film and giving too
much away.
7. Target Audience Profile
Our target audience would be
teenagers between the ages of
16-24.
Our film is mainly aimed at females
because the cast is all female. It is more of
a chick flick as there isn't as much action
and adventure in it as there would be if it
was a film that was aimed at females and
males.
How would we
reach our target
audience? We
would ensure that
we are aware of
behaviours,
incentives, cultural
differences and
expectations of our
audience. If we take
these things into
consideration when
making our film, we
would attract the
right audience.
Places where our
audience will see
promotional products:
Our audience would see
trailers of our film online
and on TV which would
tell people of what the
film is about and when it
will be released. There
will be posters and
magazine covers in
shops, at train stations,
on billboards that have
images consisting of the
cast and the tagline of
the film. This catches the
audience attention and
makes them want to
watch the film.
Attitudes: We could carry
out research such as
surveys, focus groups or
interviews in order to
learn about the attitudes
of our target audience
and ensure that our film
appeals to them the right
way.
Lifestyle: Lifestyle is related to the
audiences personality and values.
Depending on what customers watch and
prefer, we can get a good idea as to what
customers like to watch the most. We can
see what people are interested in and their
opinions on different films. We would
therefore chose a film that is would be
popular with our target audience as its
their number one thing to watch.
8. Poster Idea
The colours we will use to create
branding are red, pink and
purples.
The pink and the purples adhere
to the stereotypical colours of
teen girls in chick flicks, yet the
red connotes danger and fear.
The typography could be a red font
throughout the marketing
campaign to connote that there is
something mysterious and
dangerous about the girls.
The mean girls poster is a good
poster to take inspiration from as
the positioning of the characters
also resemble our characters.
Our poster could have the main
character, Jess, at the front of the
poster with the two other girls
together at the back.
9. Magazine Cover
• Photo of the main character
• Title of the film
• Tagline
• Variety of typography and colour

• May contain a free poster inside the magazine of the film
