The document discusses test shots taken at a castle field house to plan lighting for a magazine cover, film poster, and teaser trailer. Photos were taken of the main character with different lighting setups - a big LED light created a shadow effect showing half her face, while a softbox light created subtle shadows. Additional photos showed two other characters laughing together in the background, with one facing and one facing away from a square LED light to suggest their different sides. The photos will be used on the film poster with the main character on the left and the other two in the background.
1. Test Shots
We went up to castle field house, where we plan to film, and played with different
types of lighting in order to take some test shots for our magazine cover and film
poster. We also thought about the type of lighting we will need within each scene
of the teaser trailer.
2. We took some photos of our main character, Jess, for
an idea for our main image for the film poster. Here
we used a big LED light to the right of the subject
and pulled all the curtain across to block out any
other light. This created a shadow effect on her face
and only allows us to see half of her face. This
creates a sense of mystery which is crucial in
representing our film. In the photo on the left, our
character has a straight face with little to no facial
expression suggest she is detached. In the photo on
the right, we can see our character laughing, this
suggests the idea of the teen drama genre because she
is happy. However, this doesn’t match the personality
of her character.
3. Here we used more realistic lighting by using a
softbox light and had the character stood to the
right of it, slightly in front and facing slightly
towards it. This created a small amount of shadow
on one half of her face but it wasn’t as harsh as
the previous photos because we also had the main
lights in the room on and some natural lighting
also in the room. The plan with these photos is to
have her placed on the very far left of the film
poster with the other two characters in the
background together laughing.
4. We then took pictures of our other two characters and
had them act as though they were friends and were
laughing together. This is because we want a medium
long shot of them in the background of our film
poster so we wanted to see how this would work. In
terms of lighting we used the big square LED light to
the right of them and had one character facing away
from the light whilst one faces towards the light. We
decided to do this because we thought it would show
two different sides to the characters and how they
seem on the exterior (friendly and down to earth) and
how they have a slightly darker side to them,
suggesting their past.
