2. Overview
Synopsis
Natalie owns a successful international company and has a perfect life with her husband until the
unthinkable happens. She is hunted by a detective whilst she is suffering and her obsessed with
money becomes out of hand.
Title
"Dedecus" - shame, dishonour, disgrace, crime, dishonorable act.
Our film title is ‘Dedecus’ because the meaning reflects the concepts and ideas of the
film.
3. campaignidea
We decided to focus on a crime film because that is what we enjoy
to watch and we like the idea of created mysterious character where
not much is revealed.
We also had to think of ideas that would make our film unique. One
unique selling point that our movie has is that our main character
is a female. When researching we found that the main focus was on a
male character, who is normally the “good guy” but we decided to
flip it and put the main focus on a female villain. We are also
representing this character in a way to make the audience
sympathise with her, even though she is the criminal in the film as
we found out in our target audience research that this is enjoyable
to watch.
4. TeaserIdeas
In the teaser trailer, we mainly follow the supposed villain of the film, with a voice
over of the detective character who sets up the storyline through a conversation created
from diegetic speech. The camera follows a woman seemingly getting ready for work one
morning. She accesses a safe to reveal a great deal of money, implying that she is rich.
Meanwhile we can hear the detective voice his concerns over a case, potentially mentioning
his experience and how things don't add up in this particular case. He is uncertain and
without proof. The scene changes to that of a pathway where an individual is walking away,
in one hand, clearly noticeable is a flower. After a few seconds, the individual drops the
flower onto the pathway. The detective is still talking about the case, discussing the
suspect's background, such as name, age, occupation and potentially mentioning a recent
event in their life, in this case, it is about her recently deceased husband, who worked
with her at their company, and as the only other person within the trailer is a woman, we
begin to recognise this person as the person the detective is talking about. the title
Dedecus, is a latin term meaning shame, dishonour, disgrace, crime or dishonourable act.
These terms reflect the general ideas and concepts of the film.
5. Characters
Natalie: An intelligent individual who owns a successful company. She appears smart and
skilled and is noticeably rich but through hard work. Natalie plays the main antagonist of
out film, however she is portrayed in a way so that the audience does not see her as the
antagonist, or at least does not see her negatively. She is the main suspect of a
detective's investigation.
William Coles (Detective)- William coles is an experienced detective who's been on a
number of cases over the years. He is kind and humble, but also acts professionally and
strong willed when his occupation calls for it. Given his experience, he understands that
there are certain things that happen in most crimes, so even without knowing anything for
certain, it would be possible to infer events that may have taken place. The detective is
uncertain if Natalie has committed a crime and does not have proof, but insists on keeping
tabs on her just to be sure, often following the idea of things not adding up like they
should. This slight doubt leads his investigation. He is dressed in a somewhat
stereotypical detectives outfit.
6. PosterLayout
For our poster layout we have decided we are going to use an
image of the back of the protagonist and have a strong light in
the background to create a strong silhouette as this can look
very effective. With this image we are going to use a low angle
shot to make the character look superior, similar to the poster
for ‘Inception’. The character will be holding a gun as this
conveys the crime genre to an audience.
The film title ‘Dedecus’ will be in the bottom section of the
poster as this is conventional for film posters; and the main
casting will be spread across the top of the poster.
We will also have a tagline to make the narrative seem
mysterious and to leave questions for the audience.
7. MagazineCover
When researching for ideas our magazine we had to see
the different layouts that we could have for our film
cover. We saw that the most popular film magazines were
Total Film and Empire.
As a group we came to the conclusion that we would go
with the empire magazine because, compared to Total
Film has a lot less titles so you could see more of the
film character.
Another thing that we liked about the Empire magazine
poster was that the red title will go with our colour
scheme, which consists of white black and red
8. TargetAudienceProfile
Our main audience will be 12-24 years old and we think it could be for both
sexes but the audience will be dominated by males because of the action side,
as looking at statistics more males watch crime films.
This is Daniel he is 18 years old and he enjoys making his own music on
different apps and recording his instruments, using social media sites such as
Twitter and Instagram, and going out with his friends at the weekends. At
college he takes; photography, computing, and film studies; this is because he
enjoys the technical elements that come with the subjects. He goes to the
cinema at least once a month and has a Netflix account that he likes to use
everyday. His favourite film genre is crime and this is because there are tense
moments throughout but the action isn't over the top and repetitive. Hi
favourite film franchise is James Bond because of the links between the films
and how they are marketed in a unique way, however overall his favourite film
is Sicario because of the popular cast and character development within the
tense narrative. Our film would appeal to Mark because it is not action packed
but focuses on the build of suspense and the mystery behind the main character.
9. RealMediaProductsComparison
A marketing campaign to compare our film with is Skyfall. We based our main character on Agent Eve
in Skyfall, however in our film the character is the protagonist and she is more dominant. We are
also using dark colours in the poster and the black and white theme is consistent throughout the
franchise. The crime film is shown in this film poster and magazine cover because in the poster he
is in a gun barrel and in the poster he is holding in a gun. Also, in the poster there are gunshots
and it appears to be smashing glass and this relates to the genre. There is a similar target
audience to ours as 26% of the audience is between 15-24 year olds and our target audience is 12-24
year olds so we can reach a wider audience.
