How does your media product represent particular social groups

How does your media product represent particular social groups?
In this piece blog post I will be addressing how different social groups are represented in
particular ways within my film opening.
Starting with Gender; my main character is male showing stereotypically the male is more
dominate therefore has the leading role. But also having the second main character as a
female shows the equality in the modern day between male and female to attract both
genders.
For the targeted audience of 16-24. I have made all the characters in my filmrelatable to
the audience (being in the age group themselves). Hopefully doing this the audience would
be more intrigued. As having my characters middle age or old the audience would be less
likely to watch it as they wouldn’t be able to relate as much they would feel like it was too
told and not interesting for their age group.
I have used mise-en-scene to represent my social group. I have used costume to represent
my target audience- I have dressed all my characters the way the modern day young adults
would dress. With some parts of the costume e.g. the slippers that Luca wears would be
seen as funny for my target audience- from fitting my target audience myself I added
costume that I would find funny. Representing a stereotypical vampire I have dressed Luca
with a vampire cape and fangs which then makes clear to the audience that he is a vampire
and also attracts a more gothic social group. I have used props that would be seen as normal
to all social groups today e.g. plates cutlery, tomato ketchup, milk. I have used different
colours within this as again it needed to look normal to attract the modern day social
groups. By the performance of Luca and the other characters they make it easy to tell the
story and what is happening by their body language- this represents my target audience as
they can read todays ‘teenage’ body language.

I have used camera angles for example low camera angle was used when Luca was walking
up the stairs. This shows that he is more powerful than the other characters before we even
see his character, this is shown to a social group this way to know who is going to be the
main character straight away. Also the audience is likely to release as well as new
technology means that people know the meaning to things like different camera angles
For my location I have used a modern day house. This represents my social group as the film
opening is supposed to be completely normal- normal is just modern day meaning today’s
social group will find this a completely normal location.
My social class would be middle class. I have chosen this for my filmopening because for
example the way the characters dress isn’t posh therefore meaning it’s not a higher class.
Then again it cannot be a lower class as the things like location is clearly very fancy and nice
place to live that someone of a lower class wouldn’t stereotypically be able to afford. Which
is represented in the pictures below:

COSTUME

Overall the representation that I have offered in my film opening supports my dominant
ideas in my social group I have efficiently connected different aspects of my filmto meet
different social groups which I have now written about. I have stuck to my unusual film
conventions that I decided at the start and now have finished with.
