How did you attract your audience?
What aspects of your opening appeal to the target audience?

CHOICE OF CHARACTERS
GIRL: The main character of our film opening is a young girl in her early teens. We did this to appeal the younger aged audience (16-19) and attract
more girls to watch thriller movies. The character of the girl allowed us to get a wider audience and break the stereotype that boys are only ones that
are interested thriller films.
MAN: The other character of the film opening is of a dead man which will attract the male audience because of similar gender and ideas of killing,
giving our film a wider range of viewers.
MISE EN SCENE
SETTING: Our entire opening is set in an asylum; this will appeal to all members of our target audience as it provides the viewers with emotional or
psychological tone. It sets a claustrophobic atmosphere and the room looks older than most buildings (because of the brick walls), giving it a sense of
historical times that will attract our more mature and older audience; and younger aged people may be able to relate to feeling trapped (like the
main character) for example at home, and the small room really creates this effect. The room is white which connotes her mental disability which the
older aged audience may be interested in as they have better understanding of it, and white also connotes innocence and this will also attract the
younger aged audience.
LIGHTING: The opening includes a lot of darkness which will appeal to mainly males as they are generally braver than females; but it will also attract
our member of the audience that enjoys spooky and scary films.
PROPS: The props used in our historical and ancient (e.g. old diary/book, old Polaroid photos of the girls past, etc), therefore attracting our older
aged audience. The pendant will attract our female audience and the teddy bear will attract the younger audience. The family photos will attract
parents and anyone who are attached to their mother or dislikes their father.
COSTUME & MAKE-UP: The girl wears a short childish dress that will appeal to the younger aged audience; the dress also has an old-fashioned look
to it because of the collar and this could appeal to the older aged audience as well. The girl wears heavy make-up in the opening, this will attract the
female audience that wear or like make-up.
GENRE & SUB-GENRE
GENRE: The genre of our film opening is thriller and this will attract more of the male audience as it is their
general preference.
SUB-GENRE: Our sub-genre is psychological which will appeal to a more mature/older and educated audience
as they will have the patience to figure out the film and a better understanding of the twisted plot.

TITLES
FILM NAME: The name of our film will appeal to the younger aged audience as they are more like to have an
‘obsession’ (maybe not the same as the character); therefore they would be able to relate and find this film
interesting.
FONT STYLE: The font style looks distorted and creepy, reflecting the girl’s behaviour and mind. It’s also
coloured red which connotes killing and blood; therefore will attract the male audience.

SOUND
The sound-score is very complimentary of the environment. It is eerie, dark, dramatic and creates tension
which is why it would appeal to the male audience.
