Social group representations
I believe that my film represents a wide range of social groups from the western culture like
mainstream and alternative people. This is because there are several aspects for people to
relate to. To make sure that my product met the standards of these social groups I did
research prior to filming, looking into key aspects like colors, mise en scene and costumes.
Character
I have based the character as a standard person who fits into normal life, meaning he has
the same problems as the people watching the film. I would set my character in the middle
between the mainstream and alternative social group. This is because of his looks clothes
and actions.
Costume and Colours
When tracking down the audience of my film iI found that the main audience is mostly males
between the ages of 15 and 24 from the social groups C1 and AB. This group contains
mostly mainstream and alternative people. From looking at their culture and outfits I decided
to dress my actor in the type of clothes an average person would have in their wardrobe, this
was to create the feeling that anyone from this group could be thrown into the same position
as the character. For this I chose a black pair of skinny jeans white shirt and a black jumper
accompanied with a black pair of trainers, which I believe most people in this group have in
some form. Monochrome colours are related to this age and social group as most of them
don't want to stand out too much as they want to fit in. This is why darker colours have been
used throughout my film as it is in keeping with the genre of my production and the social
group it is aimed for. By following the trend of this social group it makes a relatable film
which the people within the Mainstream and Alternative groups will come and watch.
Mise en scene
To add to the mainstream/alternative feel, the props which I used had to be in keeping with
style. Prop wise I used a black vans backpack this is the kind of object that people in my
target social group would own (not necessarily vans brand but a black backpack). The
weapons (tools) in his bag are also things that the mainstream/alternative people could
easily get hold of whether from their house or from a shop. The setting was based of places
which people could easily go to escape, for example it was based in street locations and a
park, these are accessible places where anyone can go and places which my target
audience can relate too.
When choreographing the action sequences of the film I realised that my target audience or
mainstream/alternative people wouldn't be able to do extravagant stunts like backflips of
buildings or jumping through windows. Because of this I kept the actions simple for example
simple running along a street and jumping over a wall, which are things which i believe my
target audience can do. This ventures away from the normal stereotype of thriller films as
they are usually based around peak points where there is often lots of action, however to
relate to my target social group I chose against this.
The decor of the film is quite drab containing dark colours, symbolising a feeling of loss and
uncertainty, which my target audience of people between 15-25 in the
mainstream/alternative social groups can relate too, this is because they have to make big
life decisions with unknown scenarios making it an unsettling and stressful timeframe in their
lives.
The flashing frames in my film represents the things which the runner is running away
from(his alter ego). I did this because it represents the problems that people have in life that
the viewer will also have and be able to look back on.
Over all i believe that i have appealed to my target audience of mainstream/ alternative
people within the age group of 15-24

Evaluation question2socialgrouprepresentations

  • 1. Social group representations I believe that my film represents a wide range of social groups from the western culture like mainstream and alternative people. This is because there are several aspects for people to relate to. To make sure that my product met the standards of these social groups I did research prior to filming, looking into key aspects like colors, mise en scene and costumes. Character I have based the character as a standard person who fits into normal life, meaning he has the same problems as the people watching the film. I would set my character in the middle between the mainstream and alternative social group. This is because of his looks clothes and actions. Costume and Colours When tracking down the audience of my film iI found that the main audience is mostly males between the ages of 15 and 24 from the social groups C1 and AB. This group contains mostly mainstream and alternative people. From looking at their culture and outfits I decided to dress my actor in the type of clothes an average person would have in their wardrobe, this was to create the feeling that anyone from this group could be thrown into the same position as the character. For this I chose a black pair of skinny jeans white shirt and a black jumper accompanied with a black pair of trainers, which I believe most people in this group have in some form. Monochrome colours are related to this age and social group as most of them don't want to stand out too much as they want to fit in. This is why darker colours have been used throughout my film as it is in keeping with the genre of my production and the social group it is aimed for. By following the trend of this social group it makes a relatable film which the people within the Mainstream and Alternative groups will come and watch. Mise en scene To add to the mainstream/alternative feel, the props which I used had to be in keeping with style. Prop wise I used a black vans backpack this is the kind of object that people in my target social group would own (not necessarily vans brand but a black backpack). The weapons (tools) in his bag are also things that the mainstream/alternative people could easily get hold of whether from their house or from a shop. The setting was based of places which people could easily go to escape, for example it was based in street locations and a park, these are accessible places where anyone can go and places which my target audience can relate too. When choreographing the action sequences of the film I realised that my target audience or mainstream/alternative people wouldn't be able to do extravagant stunts like backflips of buildings or jumping through windows. Because of this I kept the actions simple for example simple running along a street and jumping over a wall, which are things which i believe my target audience can do. This ventures away from the normal stereotype of thriller films as they are usually based around peak points where there is often lots of action, however to relate to my target social group I chose against this. The decor of the film is quite drab containing dark colours, symbolising a feeling of loss and uncertainty, which my target audience of people between 15-25 in the mainstream/alternative social groups can relate too, this is because they have to make big
  • 2. life decisions with unknown scenarios making it an unsettling and stressful timeframe in their lives. The flashing frames in my film represents the things which the runner is running away from(his alter ego).
