particular social groups?
• I wanted to use a teenager in my film so that she
was a similar age to the target audience age group.
• This means that the audience are more likely to be
able to relate to the character Lucy in the film and
experience the emotions that Lucy does when
shocking or frightening features happen in the
film, giving them the rush of adrenaline that they
look for when watching a horror film.
• ‘After Hours’ gives the audience the idea that the
same thing could happen to any of them as they
live a similar life to the victim in the Film. This
gives the audience a rush of excitement and allows
escapism to happen as they forget about reality
when watching the film.

• In order for my audience to relate to the character
in my film, I had to make sure that the clothing
was modern enough. I researched latest fashions
and decided to for a simple skirt and shirt outfit.
• Lucy’s costume in the film will represent an
average school girl, which will be recognisable by
the audience by the black shoes and school bag.
This outfit will symbolise the characters role as a
student.
I wanted the character to be an average girl that was
appealing to both the male and female audience so
that the film has the same effect on both genders

• Teenagers are often presented negatively in the
news and media reports. However, in my film,
Lucy- a typical teenage girl is represented as an
innocent young adult who seeks help.
• Later on in the film- this is not shown in the
opening product, it is the adults who are portrayed
negatively when they do not believe Lucy’s story
about the ghost of Florence. They are portrayed as
‘evil’ when they send her to a mental home.
• I think that this alternate view of the different age
groups will appeal to the audience as they are used
to being portrayed negatively but in this film they
are portrayed as innocent.

• Women are usually portrayed as weak and
helpless in the majority of films. This gives the
advantage to men who are therefore portrayed as
strong and powerful characters.
• I decided to conform to the general stereotype of
women so that my film seems more ‘realistic’.
• Lucy acts as a weak, incapable girl who is unable
to save herself from the abnormal circumstances.
• I think that this will be effective for the audience
as both male and females will want to help her,
achieving the emotions that the film is aiming to
evoke.

• In my film, I have presented children as dangerous
and evil. This conforms to the typical view of
children as innocent and harmless.
• The fact that a child is presented in this way
evokes more scared emotions from the audience
because they are not used to seeing children in this
way and it is unlikely that a child would act in this
way.
• It leaves the audience feeling more scared as the
innocent view of children has been taken away,
making reality seem more scary.
• Also the fact that Florence is from the 1800’s and
dressed in the old fashioned clothing gives the
audience the idea that the 1800’s were a more
Gothic and scary time than the 21st Century.
