INTRODUCTION
In this final assignment, we are required to form a group of 2 students and
given the task to find a specific land area within the Taylor’s University
Lakeside Campus with the size of the land less than 30m X 30m and initiate a
small construction project. We are then to propose one project on the selected
area that serves one of the following purposes which include recreation area,
study enhancement area, rest area, food and beverage(dining) area and
commercial area(without food and beverage) and come out with a Project
Brief Report. The project brief report should include introduction to site, site
plan, site analysis and observation, own suggestion and proposal, sketches of
own concept and ideas and also the rationale and benefits of our project in to
the client and the surrounding community/end user.
Panorama view of the surrounding of our site.

SITE ANALYSIS
RED CIRCLE:our 30m X 15.6m selected site
The site that we have selected is located at block E, level 2(as
shown in the image above). It is measured with 30m X 15.6m.Originally
it was planned to be built as a roof garden, but due to some unknown
reason it is now only an empty flat area.
The climate for our site is sunny, rainy and windy and sometimes
with lightning due to the sultry climate of Malaysia throughout the year
and this also results in slight difference of temperaturesbetween
different times in a day. In the morning (7.00-10.00am)and at night
(8.00-11.00pm)the temperature will be an average of 28°C. In the
BLOCK E
5
afternoon (12.00-3.00pm),the temperature will be an average of 35°C.
In the evening, (5.00-7.00pm),the temperature will be an average of
30°C.There aren’t any present natural physical features on the site. But
there are some man-madefeatureson the site. This includes:
- Railing wall. Some part had rust due to exposal to the sultry
climate all year round.
-The wall of the building joining the land of the site is a plaster wall. It is still in good condition but
some parts have become dirty.
6
-There is a Ramada shade on the west side of the site.
-The floorof the site is cementflooring. It is in dull appearance and the
surface is uneven. Footprints can be found on the floor probably due to
the carelessnessof workers during the construction. There are also
some cracks on the floor surface.
7
-These two cementstructures are functioned as planting pots but there
aren’t anything planted. They are left unused.
The perceptual of the site is that the students can walk to the site via
walkways of block C, D, E. The view varies with the direction from the
site:
a) To the East:
-We can see part of a car parking area and part of roadway which is the
entrance and the exit of car parking area. There are some trees and
grasses.
b) To the South
8
-We can see the full image of the car park area. At the end of the car
park area, there is an indoor and an outdoor court that function as
basketball, futsal, and badminton and tennis court. Behind them is the
condominium. On the right side of the site there is a 5.5 acre manmade
lake.
c) To the West
-We can see there is another empty flat area roof garden which has the
same characteristics and elements as our site. Also, we can see a small
part of the Syopz mall building wall.
9
d) To the North
-
We can see the buildings or the structure and elements of Block C, D,
and E. There is a bridge linking the buildings of Block E which is the
classes and the architectural studios. Some part of the walkway to the
site had damaged and this ruins the appearance of flooring and some
students might fall if they didn’t see it.
10
SITE ANALYSIS PLAN
11
SITE PLAN
FLOOR PLAN
This is the site plan of our
selected 30m X 15.6m site, a
rooftop empty flat area in Taylor’s
University Lakeside Campus. The
rooftop is located at the end of
block E. It is located at level 2.
There are two roof garden but we
are choosing the one located
behind the toilet and connected to
the walkway.
Students can come from block a,
block B, block C and block D.
Sometimes it is a place that the
students will chit-chat or just to
feel the breeze.
This is the floor plan of our
selected 30m X 15.6m site. It is
an empty flat area. On the left
side down corner, there are 2
unused cement tree pot with 1
is empty and 1 is filled with
rocks. On the right side of the
site, there is a Ramada shade.
The site is surrounded with the
railing wall.

CONCEPT
This small construction project is designed to be constructed in a 30m x 15.6m
site on the rooftop empty flat area at block E level 2 in Taylor’s University Lakeside
Campus. The area will be building 2 buildings that have the same function which is
as the resting area.
The Ramada shade area on the West side of the site will be change ad rebuilt
with a bus-stop like concept of resting area. This resting area will become a place
where students can just sit down and relax, playing phones or surfing internet due to
the Wi-Fi is available everywhere in our campus and they can also read some
comics, educational books, magazine and newspaper provided.
For the empty flat area part of the site, it will be building a two floor resting area.
The ground floor will be the indoor resting area where they can play indoor games,
surfing internet with computer provided, reading books in mini library corner, chit-
chatting, and even a short sleep for students especially those who done their
assignments overnight. While the first floor will be as the outdoor resting area
with ¾ part covered and ¼ exposed to the environment. The outdoor resting area will
be a green nature concept with carpet grass on the floor of the area and some plants
or features around. In the covered part, students can have a short sleep inside,
surfing internet or just listen and enjoy the music water fountain. The exposed part is
where students can read books with the sunlight or just to hang out around the part
chit-chatting with friends. Our concept to build the buildings is to let the students to
be closer to the nature by planting greens and also to let them refresh their stressful
mind.
13
IDEAS:
FOR PLAN:
a) for Ramada shade
1)
Bus stop-like conceptresting area with mini water fountain and carpet
grass land. There will be roller blinds as the roof and the columns of the
resting area will be the book stand. There will be benches for students to
sit. Some trees and plants will be planted.
14
2)
It is also a bus-stop like conceptresting area. The cement columns of
the resting area will be the book stand. The roof will be the type of
wooden roof.Students have to step a few step of staircase before they
reach the resting area. Students can only stand and so this resting area
can be filled with more people.
15
b) for the Empty flat area
1)
This is a two flooroutdoor and indoor resting area. The ground
floor is the indoor resting area. There will be windows with roller
blinds. The indoor resting area will have a mini library corner with
comics and magazines, computercorner for surfing internet or to play
games, indoor games and board games, some chairs for students to
sit and some benches or chairs especiallyfor students who need
short sleep after tired doing assignments or not enough sleep.
The first floorwill be the outdoor resting area with ¾ part covered
with wooden roof and ¼ exposed to the environment. The outdoor
resting area will be a green nature conceptwith carpet grass on the
floor of the area and some plants or features around. In the covered
16
part, students can have a short sleep inside, surfing internet or just
listen and enjoy the music water fountain. The exposed part is where
students can read books with the sunlight or just to hang out around
the part chit-chatting with friends.
2)
This is a unique shape of indoor resting area. The shape of the upper
part of the building, the ‘roof’ of the building is like the tree branches
conceptof structure. It is covered with windows that the people inside
can see through outside but the people outside can’t see the inside of
the building. Around the structure, there will be trees planted.
Students can have a comfortable place to rest or to chit-chat with
friends only. There will be benches and chairs provided.

PROPOSAL AND SUGGESTIONS
MASTER PLAN
This is the master plan for our buildings built on the site. The left side is the two floor
indoor and outdoor resting area. It is surrounded with flowers, trees and plants.
The building is connected with a short wood pavement linked to the walkway to other
blocks. On the right side of the site, it is the bus-stop like concept resting area.
Some Bougainvillea plants will be planted around the resting area. There will some
also around the fountain. By these two green nature concept of resting areas, the
students who come to here will be relax and their stressful mind will disappear once
they feel the peace and calm at the resting area. Also they can get to be more
healthier due to the fresh air and green plants around.

28
RATIONALEAND BENEFITS OF PROJECTS TO CLIENT
AND SURROUNDING COMMUNITY/ END USER
i. it has become a meaningful area to the surrounding becauseit has the
buildings that is functionable and also brings good impact to students
especially for university students who always rushing for assignments
that have a very stressfulmind.
ii. by building these resting area, it will beautify the surrounding area
compared to the dull ,empty flat area. This is becausethere will be
flowers like Bougainvillea be planted and grasses likeJapanese carpet
grass land that will make the scene greeny and nice to be look.
iii. Itwill be an alternative choice for students to have a proper place to rest
on rather than in library level 2 or at student life center and these
resting area will give more freedomto the students because there will
be no rules for them. And they can do their own things anytime and
anywhere. (two floor outdoor and indoor resting area)
iv. Itis an ideal place for students as they can have a place to rest, or
sleeping rather than sleeping at the architectural studio for architectural
students or someother students who are rushing assignments will sleep
on the table. By building it, students won’t haveall this problem
anymoreand they also have a feel of ‘own bed’. ( two floor outdoor and
indoor resting area)

PLAN APPROVALPROCESS AND PROCEDURE
Application for the DevelopmentProposals
A development proposal involves four main stages which require approval:
i. Application for the land matters
ii. Application for planning permission
iii. Application for building plan
iv. Application for earthworks plan and road and drainage plans.
Each application processes are provided for under the various related legislations namely:-
i. National Land Code 1965 (NLC 56)

Conclusion
From doing this assignment, We have learnt the way to observe
and analyse our site with a proper and correct way. We know that to
construct a perfect idea for the new resting area and come out with
a complete Rest area Project Brief Report, we need to analyse our
site properly and accurately and to fulfill this, site analysis must
include the sun path, wind direction, smell, view from 4 directions
which are North, West, East and South, climate, temperature and
perceptual. Also, we have know the proper procedure and process to
register for a new property development and the forms that need to
fill in.
Next, from the starting to the completion of creating out the two
building in the resting area, we have to go through to many
researches and information in order to create the proper and the
building that bring benefit for students. We also know the
requirement of students so that we can create the suitable and
perfect resting area just only for the students.
Lastly, by doing this assignment with the group of 2, our teamwork
really gain much because we need the cooperation of each other in
order to finish the task.

  • 2. 2 CONTENTS: 1) INTRODUCTION 2) SITE ANALYSIS AND OBSERVATION 3) SITE PLAN AND FLOOR PLAN 4) CONCEPT AND IDEAS 5) SUGGESTIONS AND PROPOSAL 6) RATIONALE AND BENEFITS OF PROJECTS TO CLIENT AND SURROUNDING COMMUNITY/ END USER 7) AUTHORITY PROCEDURES 8) CONCLUSION
  • 3. 3 INTRODUCTION In this final assignment, we are required to form a group of 2 students and given the task to find a specific land area within the Taylor’s University Lakeside Campus with the size of the land less than 30m X 30m and initiate a small construction project. We are then to propose one project on the selected area that serves one of the following purposes which include recreation area, study enhancement area, rest area, food and beverage(dining) area and commercial area(without food and beverage) and come out with a Project Brief Report. The project brief report should include introduction to site, site plan, site analysis and observation, own suggestion and proposal, sketches of own concept and ideas and also the rationale and benefits of our project in to the client and the surrounding community/end user. Panorama view of the surrounding of our site. Structure and elements available at our site
  • 4. 4 SITE ANALYSIS RED CIRCLE:our 30m X 15.6m selected site The site that we have selected is located at block E, level 2(as shown in the image above). It is measured with 30m X 15.6m.Originally it was planned to be built as a roof garden, but due to some unknown reason it is now only an empty flat area. The climate for our site is sunny, rainy and windy and sometimes with lightning due to the sultry climate of Malaysia throughout the year and this also results in slight difference of temperaturesbetween different times in a day. In the morning (7.00-10.00am)and at night (8.00-11.00pm)the temperature will be an average of 28°C. In the BLOCK E
  • 5. 5 afternoon (12.00-3.00pm),the temperature will be an average of 35°C. In the evening, (5.00-7.00pm),the temperature will be an average of 30°C.There aren’t any present natural physical features on the site. But there are some man-madefeatureson the site. This includes: - Railing wall. Some part had rust due to exposal to the sultry climate all year round. -The wall of the building joining the land of the site is a plaster wall. It is still in good condition but some parts have become dirty.
  • 6. 6 -There is a Ramada shade on the west side of the site. -The floorof the site is cementflooring. It is in dull appearance and the surface is uneven. Footprints can be found on the floor probably due to the carelessnessof workers during the construction. There are also some cracks on the floor surface.
  • 7. 7 -These two cementstructures are functioned as planting pots but there aren’t anything planted. They are left unused. The perceptual of the site is that the students can walk to the site via walkways of block C, D, E. The view varies with the direction from the site: a) To the East: -We can see part of a car parking area and part of roadway which is the entrance and the exit of car parking area. There are some trees and grasses. b) To the South
  • 8. 8 -We can see the full image of the car park area. At the end of the car park area, there is an indoor and an outdoor court that function as basketball, futsal, and badminton and tennis court. Behind them is the condominium. On the right side of the site there is a 5.5 acre manmade lake. c) To the West -We can see there is another empty flat area roof garden which has the same characteristics and elements as our site. Also, we can see a small part of the Syopz mall building wall.
  • 9. 9 d) To the North - We can see the buildings or the structure and elements of Block C, D, and E. There is a bridge linking the buildings of Block E which is the classes and the architectural studios. Some part of the walkway to the site had damaged and this ruins the appearance of flooring and some students might fall if they didn’t see it.
  • 11. 11 SITE PLAN FLOOR PLAN This is the site plan of our selected 30m X 15.6m site, a rooftop empty flat area in Taylor’s University Lakeside Campus. The rooftop is located at the end of block E. It is located at level 2. There are two roof garden but we are choosing the one located behind the toilet and connected to the walkway. Students can come from block a, block B, block C and block D. Sometimes it is a place that the students will chit-chat or just to feel the breeze. This is the floor plan of our selected 30m X 15.6m site. It is an empty flat area. On the left side down corner, there are 2 unused cement tree pot with 1 is empty and 1 is filled with rocks. On the right side of the site, there is a Ramada shade. The site is surrounded with the railing wall. Entrance from the walkway
  • 12. 12 CONCEPT This small construction project is designed to be constructed in a 30m x 15.6m site on the rooftop empty flat area at block E level 2 in Taylor’s University Lakeside Campus. The area will be building 2 buildings that have the same function which is as the resting area. The Ramada shade area on the West side of the site will be change ad rebuilt with a bus-stop like concept of resting area. This resting area will become a place where students can just sit down and relax, playing phones or surfing internet due to the Wi-Fi is available everywhere in our campus and they can also read some comics, educational books, magazine and newspaper provided. For the empty flat area part of the site, it will be building a two floor resting area. The ground floor will be the indoor resting area where they can play indoor games, surfing internet with computer provided, reading books in mini library corner, chit- chatting, and even a short sleep for students especially those who done their assignments overnight. While the first floor will be as the outdoor resting area with ¾ part covered and ¼ exposed to the environment. The outdoor resting area will be a green nature concept with carpet grass on the floor of the area and some plants or features around. In the covered part, students can have a short sleep inside, surfing internet or just listen and enjoy the music water fountain. The exposed part is where students can read books with the sunlight or just to hang out around the part chit-chatting with friends. Our concept to build the buildings is to let the students to be closer to the nature by planting greens and also to let them refresh their stressful mind.
  • 13. 13 IDEAS: FOR PLAN: a) for Ramada shade 1) Bus stop-like conceptresting area with mini water fountain and carpet grass land. There will be roller blinds as the roof and the columns of the resting area will be the book stand. There will be benches for students to sit. Some trees and plants will be planted.
  • 14. 14 2) It is also a bus-stop like conceptresting area. The cement columns of the resting area will be the book stand. The roof will be the type of wooden roof.Students have to step a few step of staircase before they reach the resting area. Students can only stand and so this resting area can be filled with more people.
  • 15. 15 b) for the Empty flat area 1) This is a two flooroutdoor and indoor resting area. The ground floor is the indoor resting area. There will be windows with roller blinds. The indoor resting area will have a mini library corner with comics and magazines, computercorner for surfing internet or to play games, indoor games and board games, some chairs for students to sit and some benches or chairs especiallyfor students who need short sleep after tired doing assignments or not enough sleep. The first floorwill be the outdoor resting area with ¾ part covered with wooden roof and ¼ exposed to the environment. The outdoor resting area will be a green nature conceptwith carpet grass on the floor of the area and some plants or features around. In the covered
  • 16. 16 part, students can have a short sleep inside, surfing internet or just listen and enjoy the music water fountain. The exposed part is where students can read books with the sunlight or just to hang out around the part chit-chatting with friends. 2) This is a unique shape of indoor resting area. The shape of the upper part of the building, the ‘roof’ of the building is like the tree branches conceptof structure. It is covered with windows that the people inside can see through outside but the people outside can’t see the inside of the building. Around the structure, there will be trees planted. Students can have a comfortable place to rest or to chit-chat with friends only. There will be benches and chairs provided.

It is surrounded with flowers, trees and plants. The building is connected with a short wood pavement linked to the walkway to other blocks. On the right side of the site, it is the bus-stop like concept resting area. Some Bougainvillea plants will be planted around the resting area. There will some also around the fountain. By these two green nature concept of resting areas, the students who come to here will be relax and their stressful mind will disappear once they feel the peace and calm at the resting area. Also they can get to be more healthier due to the fresh air and green plants around.

  • 28. 28 RATIONALEAND BENEFITS OF PROJECTS TO CLIENT AND SURROUNDING COMMUNITY/ END USER i. it has become a meaningful area to the surrounding becauseit has the buildings that is functionable and also brings good impact to students especially for university students who always rushing for assignments that have a very stressfulmind. ii. by building these resting area, it will beautify the surrounding area compared to the dull ,empty flat area. This is becausethere will be flowers like Bougainvillea be planted and grasses likeJapanese carpet grass land that will make the scene greeny and nice to be look. iii. Itwill be an alternative choice for students to have a proper place to rest on rather than in library level 2 or at student life center and these resting area will give more freedomto the students because there will be no rules for them. And they can do their own things anytime and anywhere. (two floor outdoor and indoor resting area) iv. Itis an ideal place for students as they can have a place to rest, or sleeping rather than sleeping at the architectural studio for architectural students or someother students who are rushing assignments will sleep on the table. By building it, students won’t haveall this problem anymoreand they also have a feel of ‘own bed’. ( two floor outdoor and indoor resting area)

  • 32. 32 Conclusion From doing this assignment, We have learnt the way to observe and analyse our site with a proper and correct way. We know that to construct a perfect idea for the new resting area and come out with a complete Rest area Project Brief Report, we need to analyse our site properly and accurately and to fulfill this, site analysis must include the sun path, wind direction, smell, view from 4 directions which are North, West, East and South, climate, temperature and perceptual. Also, we have know the proper procedure and process to register for a new property development and the forms that need to fill in. Next, from the starting to the completion of creating out the two building in the resting area, we have to go through to many researches and information in order to create the proper and the building that bring benefit for students. We also know the requirement of students so that we can create the suitable and perfect resting area just only for the students. Lastly, by doing this assignment with the group of 2, our teamwork really gain much because we need the cooperation of each other in order to finish the task.
