Doi Suthep Temple

Chiang Mai’ significant landmark

3. Historical Background of the Doi Suthep Temple
Built in year 1383, it has 600 years of history
There was a legend about a team of monks and a white
elephant carry with the remains of the Buddha in jungle.
Suddenly the white elephant stop and lied down on the
ground then shouted 3 times. The monks took this as a sign,
decided to built a temple there.
4. Why the temple name as
“SHUANG LONG SHI”
•The Chinese named it as “SHUANG LONG SHI”
•There are two dragon with a body around 100
meters until the end of the stairs.
•People who want to visit the temple, first they need to climb
306 step.
5. 3 Treasures in “SHUANG LONG SHI” Temple
1. Temple dedicated to Shakya Muni
2. The main hall of the Shakya Muni of Buddha.
3. Top of the tower there is a crystal lotus given by
Thailand’s King, it surround with jewel that come from
whole world donator
6. The magnificent pagoda in
Suthep temple
The Golden pagoda is 22
meters high.
It is paste with gold foil.
The corner is put with 4
golden umbrella.
7. Structure and layout of the
monument
White elephant sculpture to commemorate about it
brings them to the Suthep mountain as a sign for
them to built the temple there.

Lotus shaped of oil lamp
Gold plated windbell
More than 30 wishing bell
9. Type of materials used
Top of the tower, statue of Buddha,
umbrella sculpture is paste with gold
foil, weighing 200 pounds of gold.
The body of dragon is with green
ceramic tiles and painted with golden
line.

11. How to pray
Before enter the temple must take off shoes
Kneeling on the floor, monk pray for the visitors
by drop some water on their head
people held their palms
together sincerely pray
