2. TEASER TRAILER
I have looked at some short films and teaser trailers
for the past couple of weeks and after considering the
pros and cons of each, I have decided that I will make
a teaser trailer for my final project.
As I have had previous experience of making and
analysing trailers I feel as if I would understand the
codes and conventions more and so will make my final
project more of a convincing media product.
3. TEASER TRAILER
Definition –
A teaser trailer is an advertising campaign which
typically consists of small, cryptic advertisements that
intrigue the audience before a larger, full-blown
advertising campaign is released. They are usually
released long before the release of the product, so as
to “tease” the audience. They are usually no longer
than two minutes long.
4. CHOSEN GENRE
The genre that I will be focusing on this year is supernatural
horror. I have had previous experience with supernatural horror
before, both creatively and through analysis and so I already
understand the conventions of the genre
Horror films often deal with the viewer’s hidden fears and terror
of the unknown. Plots within the genre often include evil forces
and events, most typically of supernatural origin and bringing
them into the everyday world. Supernatural horror films
predominantly include ghosts.
5. TRAILER RESEARCH

I looked at some horror teaser trailers to help me understand the codes and conventions of teaser trailers and the genre.
Sound & Lighting
The teaser trailer features non-diegetic sound throughout which varies in volume and pace during moments of tension in
the film which adds suspense for the audience and is also typically seen in horror film trailers. There are also some points
where there is no background music which also adds suspense for the audience. There is low-key lighting throughout most
of the teaser which is conventional of supernatural horror films as it adds an eerie and ominous atmosphere.
Camera & Editing
Most of the shots were very quick and only lasted for about a second each. This followed the theme of the fast paced music
which adds suspense and is also usually seen in many teaser trailers. The use of quick shots also means that a lot of the
plot isn’t given away to the audience and so it intrigues them and makes them want to go and see the film. There is an
establishing shot at the beginning of the teaser which is conventional of most trailers as it hints to the audience where the
film is going to be set. Throughout the teaser the camera zooms and pans slowly in some shots which adds suspense.
Mise en Scene
The location of the film in the trailer looks like a large family home which is conventionally where most supernatural horror
films are based as it makes it relatable for the audience and makes them think that it could happen to anybody. The
characters in the films teaser are portrayed to be a normal family which also makes the audience feel that what happens in
the film could happen to them. We can see this due to the characters costume and hair and make-up.
