Q 1 part 1

 1. 1. In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products? TRAILER
 2. 2. Forms of a trailer

A trailer is a preview of a film that is going to come out in cinemas to see soon. It gives you a short insight to what the film is about.

A teaser trailer is a shortened trailer which advertises a new coming movie but contain little footage from the film.

 3. 3. Teaser Trailer

A teaser trailer usually only lasts up to about a minute. It will have short snippets of the film and title slides which give you more information on actors etc. They are usually shown before the theoretical trailer comes out as the film has not always been completed at this stage.

 4. 4. Conventions of a teaser trailer

Short snippets of the film

Various title slides

Voiceovers

Information on actors

Sound track

Editing

Awards

Time and pacing

 5. 5. Conventions of Horror Trailers

Scary / creepy music

Dark lighting

Full with short clips of action

Dark colour theme – usually red and black

Voiceovers

Loud noises and bangs

Editing to give a scarier look

 6. 6. Conventions of my trailer

I used a voiceover to start off my trailer to open and give people and idea of what it was about. I opted against having a background sound as I felt it was given more effect by having sounds like footsteps etc. I made sure that my title slides were all the same font and style so that it was consistent and fitted well with the mise-en-scene throughout. I used a variety of short and long clips as I felt this worked best. I used similar shots at the beginning and ending of my trailer as I felt this worked well together and related well to the title of the film.

 7. 7. … .

I stuck to three main characters but only show two of them. As my trailer was about a stalker and I didn’t want to give to much away, I ensured that I only got the stalkers feet in the filming. I also felt this worked well due to the title of my film being ‘footsteps’ and only being able to see the mans footsteps. I chose to do all my filming outdoors as I wanted it to be shown as if they were being followed around over one day.

 8. 8. Timing of my trailer

My trailer last around 54 seconds which fits in with the conventions that teaser trailers do. Although I had much more filming in which I could of added in I felt it would start to feel like a short story rather than a trailer so made sure I limited myself to having no longer than a minute.

 9. 9. Unconventional parts of my trailer

As I have not added a soundtrack to my trailer it does not follow the traditional conventions in which teaser trailers do.

I have also not added many title slides and usually you are told a lot of information through these but I have used a combination of voiceovers and titles instead.
