Equine Therapy Research Paper
The Life Changing Treatment When Columbus brought the first horses to the United States, he had
no idea he had brought the animal that would later bring the hope back into people's lives. Horses
have always been a huge part in the lives of people all around the world, but today they have
become something much more than an animal. They have become best friends with society and are
now being used to give various people with different disabilities the amazing feeling of security and
confidence. Equine Therapy has opened a new world to the people who have disabilities. Equine
Therapy is for people who cannot understand the real world like most of us can. Before becoming an

While in education, the student needs to have completed forty hours of education in the past two
years. Therapists need to keep their certifications up to date. The therapist must have 6,000 hours
(three full years) experience of hands–on work with horses, and 100 hours of education in the horse
profession. This is important, this way you know how to react if there is something wrong with the
horse. Therapists must have a degree in a mental health field as a practice. Equine Therapists make
different salaries depending on the degree that they have. They usually start out at $26,000 and end
up making anywhere from $29,500 to $50,000 annually.
Equine Therapy does have its downfalls, some patients walk away and never come back, but when
the patient comes back and heals, that is when therapists know that they are doing some good in this
crazy world. Thousands of lives have been changed by these magnificent creatures. Parents can now
give their children the "medication" that they need. With the help of horses, therapists are able to
give the veterans their lives back by making the veteran as comfortable as possible with the civilian

Personal Narrative: When I Got A Horse
It was a bright sunny Saturday afternoon on November 30th 2013 when my mom found me outside
doing chores.
"Let's go to Canton to get a cow your dad bought." My mom invited.
"Why?" I inquired.
"Because everyone is going."
"Okay, I'm going to go change my jacket then." I became slightly suspicious because my whole
family was going along, and it didn't make sense to drive all the way to Canton to pick up one cow
when we usually got our livestock from Sioux Falls Regional livestock. I decided to go along
anyway since I wasn't doing anything.
While sitting in the car I started to think about how unusual the situation was. Then I started
thinking about how awesome it would be if I got a horse as a Christmas present even though
Christmas was a month away. Although I thought it probably wasn't going to happen I still felt
excitement building up in my chest at the prospect of getting a horse.
When we pulled into a driveway of a small farm everyone pilled out of the pickup and we were met
by a guy coming out of the white house to our left. While my dad and the guy were talking, I
examined the farm and immediately ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The surprise quickly turned into excitement at the sight of getting a horse for Christmas. The horse,
named Jack, however was hesitant to step into the trailer like a stubborn mule. After many attempts
to get Jack into the trailer the guy called someone on the phone to bring out treats to lure Jack into
the trailer. Someone emerged from the house with some apple and orange slices. They tried to lure
Jack in the trailer again but even with the treats he was still hesitant. When he was finally in the
trailer the guy tied the led rope to the side of the trailer to secure Jack in place. Everyone said
goodbye and we got into the pickup and headed home. During the drive home I felt delight that after
over ten years of wanting a horse I finally got

Barrel Racing Essay
Barrel racing is a timed event in rodeos where a rider and horse try to complete a clover leaf pattern
in the fastest time. It takes skills from the rider and the horse to make a good run. It takes good
athletic ability from the horse and good horsemanship from the rider to take a horse safely through
the barrels. The judges set up the barrels in a triangle in the center of the arena. There is normally a
flagger in the ring that waves a flag when you start and waves it again when you cross the finish
line. There is a person that starts and stops the timer when that flag is waved.
This event was originally made for women. When barrel racing first started the pattern fluctuated
between a figure eight pattern and the clover leaf that is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The fastest time gets a half of a second added onto it to make the 2D division. Then the fastest 1D
time gets a whole second added to it to make the 3D division. The 4D division is one and a half
seconds added to the fastest time of the whole event.
There are some rules in barrel racing. Number one is the fastest time wins. The rider and horse aren't
judged on anything but that. If the rider and horse run past a barrel and get out of the pattern, they
get a "no time" score or they get disqualified. If the racer or her horse knocks a barrel over, they get
a five second penalty which normally gives them a time that is to slow to win or place. There is a
sixty second time limit to complete the course. The barrels have to be fifty five gallons, they have to
be metal, and they have to be at least two colors. Most competitions also require the rider to wear a
long sleeve western shirt that is tucked in, western cut pants or jeans, a western hat, and western
boots. The contestant has to be dressed like this one hour before the event.
There is also special tack that is used for barrel racing. Bits are one thing. There isn't any rule that
says what type of bit you have to use but there are bits that are more common to riders than others.
The type of bit used is determined by the riders based on the horses needs. Bits with longer shanks
cause the horse to stop faster and bits with shorter shanks are used for more lateral work. Other
things are put on the bit like curb

Roman Empire War Horses
Horses are stunning creatures used across the world for centuries, and even in the Roman empire. In
ancient Rome, horses were mainly used for chariots, hauling supplies, and light skirmishes. The
Romans' particular favorite breeds were Andalusians, Dales Ponies, Arabians, Camargues, and
Galician Ponies. Rome learned about horses from Greeks and of how to best uses the different
breeds also how to efficiently train them. Horses were chosen for their stable temperament, great
stamina, resistance of extreme environments, and their ability to sustain depletion of food. Horses
have aided in wars, and transportation, without these amazing creatures Rome would have not been
so successful ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Though there origins are relatively unknown, the breed is one of the oldest horse in the world.
Camargues for centuries lived in harsh environments in marshes and wetlands of Rhone delta. These
horses are born black or dark brown but as they grow to adulthood their coat lightens to grey which
means under their grey coat is black skin. This breed is small, standing only 13.1 to 14.3hh ( 65 to
70 in.) at the withers and weighs from 770 to 1,100 pounds. Though they are small in size they gain
in strength as the can carry a full grown adult. The breed is considered rugged and intelligent with a
short neck, deep chest, compact body, a full mane and tail, well–jointed, and strong limbs. The breed
was accepted by Celtic and Roman invaders that entered the Iberian peninsula and are closely
related to Iberian horse breeds. Romans used Camargues along with Andalusian, Arabians and other
breeds to invade and conquer other

Personal Narrative: My Horse Brush
Throughout my life I have lived and breathed with horses. They are a part of me and I wouldn't be
myself without them, but it wasn't until I got my horse Brush that I fully formed a unified
connection with them. Some family friends had recently had a couple of colts born and let me take
one home so I could begin training them. There was three different horses that I could choose from,
but only one connected to me. His name was Brush. Looking back I never would have thought we
would have the relationship we have now. Brush was two years old when I brought him home. He

Process Essay-Giddy Up Cowboy
Giddy Up Cowboy YEEH HAAA! We all have watched those crazy western, old time movies, and
wanted to be able to get on and ride off into the sunset just like the Indians, cowboy or the wanted
rebels. Don't even shake your head, you know you have. Well just your luck, I am here to help you
out with that. Getting your horses, or a donkey works too, ready to ride can sometimes be a dreaded
process however; once you're on, and have the wind in your hair and the cold crispy fall breeze on
your face, it will all be worth the extensive process it takes to go through. Okay first you have to
retrieve or fetch your animal of choice you are going to be riding, such as a donkey or a horse. I
would prefer a horse, but it's your right as an American to choose. Catching the horse/ donkey will
not always be easy and may end up being the hardest part of the process. If the animal is not locked

This part should not just be a two–minute process. This is when you make your connections with
animal you will be riding. For most they already have a connection, but for you who are just now
starting this hobby, this is a crucial part; unless you want to be on the ground half way through your
ride. So when you are grooming your animal of choice, take time to talk to them. They won't
understand it obviously but certain key words such as, good or their name they will pick up. While
talking make sure you are actually grooming them. It is extremely important to get two certain
places which includes: their hoofs and their back where the saddle is placed. If you were to forget
every other spot somehow, you would make it out alive. The one last thing to include with grooming
is to make sure you use fly spray. This is a key step! Without it horses/ donkeys will get utterly upset
and this is another situation you may end up off the horse due to them bucking at the

Abnormal Psychology Final : Animals Have Been Used From...
Abnormal Psychology Final
Animals have been used to help in treatment of mental health as far back as 1972 (Trivedi & Perl,
1995). Horses have been shown to be able to calm people and allow them to open up in therapy
sessions. There are many people who suffer from post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and exhibit
mistrust, easy to react with anger and hyper–aware of their surroundings, characteristics that can be
seen in horses. Horses are prey animals and therefor they are very aware of their surroundings and
watch body language to see a possible threat, people must be the leader with out being at all
aggressive as to scare the horse in to a flight response (MacLean, 2011). For many with PTSD it
may be easier to form a trusting, positive relationship with horses that understand them then it can
be with people even people they have know for a long time. The horses seem to understand people,
reading their body language and mirroring, showing these behaviors more than any other animal and
this is what makes them great for therapy, allowing people to open up, relax, be in control, while
trusting. The Equine Assisted Growth and Learning Association (EGALA, 2014) has 600 equine
assisted therapies programs, but more studies are needed to have evidence of the effectiveness of
these programs.
PTSD is caused when a person has them selves experiences an unbearable trauma, that causes the
symptoms of PTSD. Most often the trauma is from being a victim of sexual assault or a veteran of

The Sea Of Leptis Magna
AS THE HIPPAGOGUS sailed into the harbor of Leptis Magna, Rubio got a good glimpse of the
city and its people. It was a thriving Roman metropolis settled on the coastline of North Africa, and
its market was one of the most flourishing; ships sailing the Mediterranean brought forth valuable
goods, slaves and exotic animals. Immense quantities of olive oil also arrived in the country, as well
as high–quality garum, and salted fish were brought in from the coast. This grand port, with its
superb monumental architecture, was fast becoming the busiest in the Roman Empire. The reason
why Leptis Magnus was so well–fixed was its strategic position of its many dockages, control of

It was a never–ending cycle of buying, selling and trading, and Falco never tired of the horse racing
business, because horse racing was deeply ingrained in his blood. Rubio was along for the ride,
taking a break before racing again; the racing season would officially end after the Saturnalia
Games. He was here to assist Falco in the purchase of new horses, although he was considered to be
on "holiday." Also aboard the Hippagogus was Titus Buccio, much to Rubio's annoyance. The
paunchy Doctore was also along to aid Falco in the purchase of new horses, as he had some rather
good connections with some of the top stable owners. As a matter of fact, Buccio knew quite a few,
as he once lived and worked in Leptis Magnus before moving to Rome, and then on to Alexandria
and the Factio Russata. He began his racing career here, and had raced for the Reds and the Blues–
and for the short–lived Gold Faction–winning a respectable twenty–one first–place purses before
graduating to the great Circus Maximus of Rome. But his career abruptly ended there after a bad
accident, the accident in which he'd lost half his foot. Afterwards he worked as a stable boss for a
short time before sailing off to Alexandria, seeking his fortune on the lesser tracks of the provinces.

Horse Classification Essay
The question posed to every equestrian ask what type of riding the person does. Normally, the
options given by the asker include English or Western. However, a greater variety of disciplines can
be found in the equine world. English can be broken down into jumping and flat work. Two types of
jumping will be examined, hunters and jumpers, to find divergences and uniformaties. Conversely,
in competition, hunters and jumpers divert in the judging of the classes, with the rules in the hunter
ring being based deeply in tradition. Hunter divisions originated from fox hunting, thus, horses must
have long, fluid strides in order to cover more ground easily, so the horse would not tire during a
hunt. Horses should jump the obstacle in a clean, safe ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Similarly, both hunter and jumper horses must be registered through the United States Equestrian
Federation before showing, and also microchipped starting in 2016. All horses, whether competing
in the hunters or jumpers, must be able to pass a random drug screening for all illegal substances.
Horses will be chosen at random to complete a drug test. The administer of the test will wait two
hour to collect a urine sample from the horse, after two hours if a sample cannot be collected, then
blood will be drawn from the horse for the drug test. Hunters and jumpers both accumulate points
throughout the show season, based on placing, that rank the horses for year end awards and show
qualification for finals. In the Equitation ring, a another type of jumping, riders can only compete on
a single horse in a class to help with points towards riding finals, while hunters and jumpers can
show on multiple different mounts without affecting eligibility. Consequently, hunters and jumpers
have similarities regarding rules having to do with the horses competed

How To Ride A Horse

Explain How To Properly Saddle A Horse In A Western Saddle

saddle. Therefor, "Bob" will be your imaginary horse used to aid you while navigating through the
steps to completing this task safely and effectively. Listen close and saddle up! Imagine yourself at a
beautiful barn in the countryside early one morning. You have just finished brushing your beautiful,
noble black steed named "Bob". You are now ready to saddle him. When saddling Bob, the first task
necessary to complete is placing the saddle pad, or blanket, on his back. You should place it high up
on his withers (the spot between the neck and the back). Next, slide the blanket slightly towards the
back of the horse. This helps to smooth down the horse's hair underneath the saddle pad, alleviating

Walk him or her around the yard, or any acreage that you have, it's good for both you and him or

or a bag flies by you, or a dog, bird, cat runs past you or a dog is barking, and they spook and try to
take off or starts rearing up or bucking. Always be on your toes, and make sure you're holding on to
excess lead and the knot or clip connecting to the halter, and NEVER, wrap your hand around the
lead rope! If you do, and you're not paying a lot of attention, and your
foal/yearling/mare/stallion/gelding spooks and runs, you're going with him. And another thing, make
sure he is respectful, lead him, don't let him lead you. Do not let him eat the grass when you are
walking, kick his nose, don't let him jog while you want to walk, make him run in circles, if you let
him do that, then he gets his way, and won't listen to you as well.
First, the best thing to do is lunge, it's best if you have a round pin so they can't go anywhere, or pull

What Is A Horse Riding Essay
Regardless of the way that people may not think about it as an exercise when they consider riding a

This old school recreation action is a wonderful way to deal with put some quality vitality in nature
and move beyond a major exercise focus plan. There are two or three bits of gear and equipment
required to begin horseback riding. If you will be taking a class, or riding at a homestead, these
things may be given to you. It is basic to understand what preparation you will be required to make

her shoulder, which is a perfect size horse for a nine year old. Her show name was Miss Dark
Secret, but I called her Secret. I was leasing her from a family friend at the time, and after a few
months I received a phone call from this friend informing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

I steered Secret to the rail, whispering "good girl" as a way of calming us both down. However, her
attention was not focused on me, but on her surroundings. She perked her ears up at every sound she
heard and whinnied desperately to her friends in hope of a reply. Each whinny resonated through her
body and sent a chill up my spine. Whipping her head around, Secret whinnied again, and I tried to
make eye contact with my mom for reassurance, but I could not spot her in the crowd of people. My
anxiety was getting worse and Secret could sense that, which only made her more nervous. When
we were told to trot our horses, Secret's behavior became even worse. She started to hop up with her
front legs projected above the ground and her back legs following through with little kicks, as if she
were preparing to buck. She continued to do this as I passed by the stands. I glanced around at the
people watching me, only to find them shaking their heads disapprovingly and whispering to one
another. I looked up at the cloudy sky, feeling miniscule on top of this large, anxious horse. The fear
that had built up inside me made the ground look considerably farther away than it really was and
the probability of me being thrown to the ground seemed significantly high. Secret continued her
little hops as we rounded the arena and finally Meghan ran into the center of the ring, just in case
Secret did end up throwing me to the ground. When my class finally ended, we were all told to bring
our horses into the center of the ring and line them up. Dismounting Secret at last, I was flooded

Western And Western Saddles
According to society, Equestrians are jockeys that race around a track. But to anyone who's actually
ridden or has a passion for horses, you know that there are two distinctive styles of riding – English
and Western. There are both similarities and differences between the two types of riding. Regardless
of the style of riding people participate in or favor, each world of riding opens up various activities
for the rider to enjoy.
The most obvious difference between English and Western riding is the tack itself. Most people
associate Western riding with cowboys and herding cattle. The Western saddle is a larger, heavier
saddle with a horn in the front. The saddle is more comfortable and easier to sit in, to provide a more
comfortable seat ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, "English style horses tend to be taller and many are leggy, aiding their ability to travel
over long distances at a variety of speeds as well as jump over a variety of obstacles" (Blocksdorf
2016). English horses are normally lighter and taller to give them an advantage over jumping fences
and performing in cross country. Western horses and stockier and they tend to be shorter than
English horses. "Western horses tend to be compact and capable of steady travel all day with small
bursts of speed to chase stray cattle" (Blocksdorf 2016). Of course, a Quarter horse can participate
in the English discipline, and a Dutch Warmblood could participate in reining, but those breeds are
usually specifically bred for either English or Western disciplines. A similarity between English and
Western riding is the posture. Both types of riding require the rider to sit up straight in the saddle
and have their heels down. Comfortably and securely sitting in the saddle requires you to keep your
hands down, tuck your elbows in, and push your shoulders back. Good posture in the saddle is
essential to riding correctly. For example, "A balanced rider is able to maintain this center of balance
through all paces. I call this the 'independent riding posture'. The riding posture is the position the
rider establishes in the saddle, at all paces. An independent riding posture gives the rider a stable
base allowing them to use their legs, seat, and hands

Riding Horses And Western Horses
When you decide to start riding horses, you need to choose a discipline. Although versatility is
perfectly fine, you will most likely want to focus on one type of riding. The two main types of
horseback riding are english and western. The following is a guide to english riding. The Horse
English type horses are usually leggier and more athletically built than the stockier western horses.
They are built uphill, which means that their withers are higher than their backs. Horses of any
breed can be ridden english, but the breeds that excel in this discipline are: thoroughbreds,
warmbloods, gaited horses, and Arabians. Stock breeds, such as Quarter Horses and Paint Horses
usually do better when ridden western. The Gaits The gaits in english riding are faster than those of
western. The three main gaits of english horses are: walking, trotting and cantering. The walk is
obviously the same as western, but english horses often hold their heads higher than western horses.
This isn 't a matter of the horse 's "spirit," but the western horses are trained to carry their heads a
little lower. The horse 's trot is a fast, up–down gait. The english rider will either sit or post to the
trot. The canter is even faster than the trot, and it is a three–beat gait. The rider will rock their body
to go with the movement of the horse. Many people refer to it as the "rocking chair gait." The Rider
English riders tend to sit up more on the front of their pelvis, while western riders tend to

Equine Industry Research Paper
The equine industry or better known as the "horse world" is one of the largest industries in the world
today. It is a multimillion–dollar enterprise that involves more than just the horses. The equine
industry is popular worldwide and involves people from all different places and backgrounds. It has
a significant impact on the economy in the U.S. and other countries as well. So what makes this
industry so important to countries economies worldwide? Many people might assume it's just the
excitement of the rodeo or horse show that draws people to pay money to watch the excitement.
However, it is so valuable to the economy, because of the diverse opportunities it offers. The

The horse world impact in the European economy is close to 108 billion U.S. dollars. The English
side of the industry is more prominent in European countries such as Germany and Ireland. In
Ireland, racing, breeding, and equestrian sports are the three main parts of the equine industry.
Despite it being a rather small country, it holds a very high position nationally in all three parts.
Ireland has a long history with horsemanship skills that contribute to it being the third largest
breeder of thoroughbreds in the world. According to Ireland's Minister for Agriculture, Food, and
the Marine Simon Convey, "We have all the natural advantages for horse breeding and production in
this country, a natural affinity for the horse, an abundance of horsemanship and world class riders"
("Irish Sport Horse Industry Survey"). There are approximately 130,000 horses in Ireland and the
industry contributes approximately 750 million U.S. dollars to its overall economy. However, the
Western side of the horse world, particularly barrel racing, is growing rapidly in places like Canada
and Brazil. For example, the Chief Executive Officer of Equine Canada stated, "Our report confirms
the enormous–but too often underestimated– contribution made by Canadian equestrians to our
country's economy and quality of life" ("Equine Industry Study"). The country does face challenging
climate conditions

Descriptive Essay About Trail Riding
Do you ever have a dream where you're falling, and it feels so real that your body wakes you up?
Well this was not a dream. I was falling, and there was no bed for me to wake up in.
Growing up I was always around horses. My mom got into horses as a teenager, and they never left
her heart. The minute I was born I was put up in the saddle. Where most families would bond by
going swimming, hiking, or to watch a movie, my family bonded by going horseback riding. (Or as
we call it, trail riding.) The first horse I remember riding was a beautiful mare (girl horse) named
Angel. She was a sweet old white quarter horse who took care of everyone who rode her. I went on
many trail rides with her and when she passed away I learned at the early age of six that people's
deaths aren't the only deaths we morn. Eventually I moved on and started riding a new horse whose
name was Tanka.
Tanka was a stubborn and sassy sorrel mare. I really didn't ride her on my own because she probably
would've taken advantage of me being a beginner. Since I couldn't ride her on my own my sister
Lisa usually rode along on Tanka while I sat behind the saddle, holding on to the edge of it for dear
life. One cloudy mid September day my mom decided we should go on a trail ride. Since we didn't
have enough horses for everyone who wanted to come on the ride, my mom came up with a plan.
She planned that me, Lisa, and my mom's friend Lori should ride down the road to meet my mom
and her other friends at their house

Julia Chartier: A Short Story Of My Horse
Once upon a time in a far away land called Bromont, Canada, a girl was sitting on a tack box on her
phone, waiting to hear from her trainer about a class. Her name was Julia Chartier, she had a sister
named Catherine, and her trainer's name was Andy Kocher. She and her sister were riding their
horses in a horse show in Canada. Julia was sitting on one of the many large, black tack boxes
waiting for her sister to get done hacking her horse, and when Andy came back to the barn on his
dirt bike he said, "Well Julia we have a team for the team cup!" She was so surprised that she nearly
fell off of the trunk.
"But that's tonight, and Luca stopped at the first jump today, and I fell off." she said.
Andy then replied with, "You will be fine. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

It has been months since this happened and Julia still talks about it all of the time with her family

because it was very exciting and they were very proud of her and love to watch her compete.
That is the story of Julia Chartier and Team Middle America's stunning victory in Bromont,

Personal Narrative: My Horse
Some people think of them as animals. Some people think of them as objects. Some people think of
them as friends. Then there are the few who think of them as family. Horses have always been like
family to humans, except sometimes closer. There are many benefits to owning or being around
horses. They come in many different colors. There is a multitude of breeds, also. Additionally, they
have a long history with humans. Horses have unique behaviors. Showing horses has been the past–
time or even career of many people. Furthermore, caring for horses can be a handful, but is
definitely rewarding. Finally, riding horses is not just a hobby or a sport, but an action of your heart.

blue (black) hoof, white hoof, and striped hoof (a mix of the two). There are also many facial
markings. Some include blazes (long, wide stripe down the face), stripes (long, narrow stripe down
the face), lanterns (completely white face), snips (small white mark on the nose), stars (small white

Ethnography Of A Horse
One must first learn the basic body parts of a horse before learning the complications of its
conformation. On front of the horse is its head. The neck should be attached to the head and back
into the horse's withers. The horse's mane is the long stretch of hair along its neck. The forelock is
the little patch of hair in the middle of the horse's head. The wither is where the neck connects to the
rest of the horse's body and tends to raise higher than the shoulder. From the horse's shoulder is its
forehand (front legs). The top point of the horse's leg is its elbow. In the middle of the leg there is a
slight lump. That is the horse's knee. Below the knee is its cannon bone (the long bone starting at the
horse's knee to fetlock). Attaching ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
T` he knee should be large, flat, and straight. The cannon bone is shorter than the forehand. These
make the horse's ride stable and lengthened. To determine this you should see a straight line through
the center of all the bones in the forehand. The forehand also supports about sixty percent of the
horse's weight. The length of the forehand will determine the length of the horse's stride. The
forehand should be straight and muscled.
The terms and causes of an incorrect forearm are; "camped out is when the front leg is too far
forward from the body to the ground. Camped under is when the front leg is angling back." This
causes the horse to stumble and have a short stride. Splints are unusual growths on the cannon bone.
Bowed tendons are the tear of the flexor tendon and leaves an ugly scar.
The front legs should also have a certain amount of distance between them. Base wide is when the
distance of the front feet on the ground is farther apart than the distance between the front legs at the
chest. Base narrow is when the distance between the feet on the ground is narrower than the distance
between the front legs at the chest. "This causes horse to knock one leg forward at a time."( ) Base
narrow also causes bow legged, which puts strain the horse's

I have been riding horses for 5 years and over the course of the five years, I have ridden at 3
different barns and ridden nineteen different horses. I have finally found the horse love of my life
and found the best friends anyone could ever ask for at the last barn that I find myself there as much
as I can and spend almost everyday I have there in the summer. The horse I am currently riding is
the craziest but one of the sweetest horses you'll ever meet. This past year me and Stormy competed
in the waupaca county fair and really well for our first (and hopefully not the last) show. I got to
show with my best friends and it's not a memory to forget like playing in the corn pit with Kendra

The course of our show was five days horses got there on Wednesday and left on Sunday. But our

it was dark out. The next day was and adventure in it's own self we had the jumping practice and I

Team Tack Shoppe Analysis
I would like to become a part of Team Tack Shoppe because I want to be able to represent a
successful small business. Being a Team Tack Shop ambassador would be an excellent way for me
to be able to connect with more positive, motivated equestrians. I started riding at the age of eight,
when my dad took me to the barn in our neighborhood. I had initially just went to pet the horses, but
I ended getting to ride; and that is where it all started. Soon after I started taking lessons at a local
barn. Four years later I purchased my first pony, Trigger, from my trainer. I worked so hard for the
money to buy Trigger, and I was so proud of him. Sadly I was only able to keep Trigger for about a
year before I had to sell him back to my trainer. I still continued with lessons and rode when I could,
but I didn't get to purchase my next horse until I was twenty. I purchased Talia in January 2015 and
trained her myself. I plan on making her into my competitive jumper and showing her as much as I
possibly can. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Horse Grooming Steps
It is a horse owner's job to care for the horse that includes grooming the animal. Grooming a horse
has many steps and takes many tools. In order to fully groom a horse it's entire body must be
brushed along with the mane and tail. All of these steps take a large amount of time. Brushing a
horse is a dirty job, plan on wearing clothes that can get dirty. The following paragraphs will explain
how to properly groom a horse. THese steps can be completed in another order however this seems
to be the most efficient order.
In order to groom a horse, first the horse must be caught from pasture. A pasture is a grassy fenced

Descriptive Essay On Trail Rides
Trail rides are a lot of fun and it is even more so when where you go is beautiful. However, when
people do not know what they are doing horses can be dangerous. Over the summer I had gone to
visit Claireville Ranch in Brampton, Ontario. The ranch is located close to the city and is a place
people go to get away. They offer riding lessons, pony rides, and trail rides. You may also go for
hikes and walk your dog. The main area and parking is set a little way off the main road, which
makes it quiet. It is a breathtaking area and is great for hikes. However, the horses were kept in a
small and dirty paddock behind the barn. They may just be kept there for the day, but it was still not
enough space for the amount of horses kept there. There was also an abundance which is
understandable at a barn and in the forest, but was still bothersome. The place was extremely
crowded with many people riding and waiting at once. We also had to wait for an extremely long
time. To get a spot you had to show up a half hour beforehand and then about another half hour for
the people to get back, dismount, and then you have to mount. Even with all this the people in
charge seemed to keep a somewhat organized schedule. The service was not the best, but was not
completely unbearable. You were able to call to ask questions, which would be useful if they picked
up the phone. Most of the time the phone went to the answering machine that was little help,

My Day At The Fair
"Thank you, thank you, thank you! You guys are the best parents in the world!" I said. "You're
welcome sweetie." said my mom and dad. When I found out that I was riding at the Goodells 4–H
Fair, I freaked out! It was my second year at Fair. I did a class called Horseless Horse the year
before because you have to be 9 to ride and I was only 8 years old and called a participant. But that's
okay I still got to work with horses and that's all that mattered to me. Now back to the main story.
The only thing that we didn't have was a horse. We searched everywhere and couldn't find anything
that was right for me. Then one day at school I got a note from one of my best friends Kylie Guyette
who owns two horses. The note said "you can use Paris at the Fair." Now, I was pumped! I kept
reading "you can use my saddle at Fair too but don't tell your mom, let my mom tell your mom!"So
exactly when I walked into my house, I told my mom. She said "she would talk to her or let her tell
my mom."But after that she said i can tell my mom. So I guess now all I could do was wait. But that
was going to be hard. A couple days later they were talking about it and they said at the meeting that
I could do some showmanship with the horse and see how it worked. A couple days later my parents
told me that I was leasing Paris. I was so happy now that I was riding Paris and Kylie G. was riding

The Expense of Owning a Horse
Horses are expensive animals to have around and knowing exactly how expensive before you rush
out and buy one is imperative. Usually the cheaper part of getting a horse is the actual purchase
price. Horses can cost anywhere between a few hundred to thousands of pounds depending on the
type and breed of the horse, the age, who is selling the horse and why, how much training he's had
and how experienced he is. Buying a horse from a private seller Buying from a private seller rather
than a trainer, breeder or dealer can be a way to get a good deal and save money. Private sellers
often advertise in newspapers, on bulletin boards of tack stores or on buy–and–sell websites. If
you're inexperienced with horses be sure to bring along someone you trust when seeing a horse. An
experienced horseperson will be able to tell if the animal is good for you and whether or not it seems
to have any behavioural problems. If your expert feels the horse is sound and good for you, then a
vet will determine if the animal is health and suitable for what you want to use it for. Some of the
better reasons private owners sell their horses are a change in finances resulting in the horse being
too expensive to keep, moving and not being able to take the horse with them, wanting to replace a
beginner's horse with a seasoned show animal, children moving out of the house and leaving no one
to ride the horse or just generally losing interest in the hobby. Unfortunately people also sell horses

Tracking Horse: The Hanoverian Horse
Introduction
There can be no question that the Hanoverian Horse represents today, one of the most prominent
breeds of riding horses in the world. The stud–book comprises close to 19,000 active brood mares
and 450 approved breeding stallions and covers the largest homogeneous breeding area in Europe
(Hanoverian–gb.org.uk, 2017). Goodwin et al., (2008) believes that equine ethology, management,
learning theory, skill, and talent combine to influence numerous outcomes in horse–rider
interactions. The behavioural and learning processes in the horse are likely to influence not only
equine athletic success but also the usefulness of the horse as a domesticated species (Murphy and

exercise) before training (TBT) and two–hour turnout after training (TAT). The behaviour of the
horses in the stable was more relaxed when turnout was allowed in addition to training. The

Black Beauty And Anna Sewell's George And The Jewels
Wow! Reading the point of view of a first–person narrative reveals so much about the author's
thoughts. While reading first–person narratives, it enables readers to understand more information
throughout the story. Hearing the thoughts and ideas right from the character makes it easier to make
connections. In the short story "George and the Jewels" by Jane Smiley, the main character Abby
goes through a transition from disliking horses to understanding them. In "Black Beauty" by Anna
Sewell, the story is narrated by a horse who is introduced into a new environment where he has to
become used to being rode every day. By examining Black Beauty and The George and Jewels, it
shows that both passages use first–person point of view to develop ... Show more content on

At the end, it shows her being in a relaxed and calm state. Abby is remembering her mare that she
tamed back then, wishing to see the horse again. This point of view is important to the story because
the reader can understand how she connects with the horse, but unlike her father, she sees them as
smart animals and compares them to dogs. By viewing the story in first person, the reader is able to
understand Abby's thoughts and feelings in depth about her changing emotions with horses. There is
a similar short passage that connects these ideas.
Black Beauty uses first–person narratives to interpret the new environment and how the horse feels
about the changes. In quote 1, it states, "I had of course been used to a halter and a headstall, and to
be led about in the fields and lanes quietly, but now I was to have a bit and bridle, my master gave
me some oats as usual, and after a good deal of coaxing he got the bit into my mouth, and the bridle
fixed, but it was a nasty thing". It is comparing how Black Beauty used to roam around the field, but
now his master started to put on riding gear. The horse felt discomfort when he was first introduced
to the bit. The point of view is important because the reader is viewing how Black Beauty went
through a new experience that was uncomfortable to get used to. Even though the horse was shown
kindness, it was not happy with the new gear. In quote 2, it states, "It certainly did feel queer, but
must

Equine Therapy Research Paper The Life Changing Treatment When Columbus brought the first horses to the United States, he had no idea he had brought the animal that would later bring the hope back into people's lives. Horses have always been a huge part in the lives of people all around the world, but today they have become something much more than an animal. They have become best friends with society and are now being used to give various people with different disabilities the amazing feeling of security and confidence. This is important, this way you know how to react if there is something wrong with the horse. Therapists must have a degree in a mental health field as a practice. Equine Therapists make different salaries depending on the degree that they have. They usually start out at $26,000 and end up making anywhere from $29,500 to $50,000 annually. Equine Therapy does have its downfalls, some patients walk away and never come back, but when the patient comes back and heals, that is when therapists know that they are doing some good in this crazy world. Thousands of lives have been changed by these magnificent creatures. Parents can now give their children the "medication" that they need. With the help of horses, therapists are able to give the veterans their lives back by making the veteran as comfortable as possible with the civilian ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Personal Narrative: When I Got A Horse It was a bright sunny Saturday afternoon on November 30th 2013 when my mom found me outside doing chores. "Let's go to Canton to get a cow your dad bought." My mom invited. "Why?" I inquired. "Because everyone is going." "Okay, I'm going to go change my jacket then." I became slightly suspicious because my whole family was going along, and it didn't make sense to drive all the way to Canton to pick up one cow when we usually got our livestock from Sioux Falls Regional livestock. I decided to go along anyway since I wasn't doing anything. While sitting in the car I started to think about how unusual the situation was. Then I started thinking about how awesome it would be if I got a horse as a Christmas present even though Christmas was a month away. Although I thought it probably wasn't going to happen I still felt excitement building up in my chest at the prospect of getting a horse. When we pulled into a driveway of a small farm everyone pilled out of the pickup and we were met by a guy coming out of the white house to our left. While my dad and the guy were talking, I examined the farm and immediately ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The surprise quickly turned into excitement at the sight of getting a horse for Christmas. The horse, named Jack, however was hesitant to step into the trailer like a stubborn mule. After many attempts to get Jack into the trailer the guy called someone on the phone to bring out treats to lure Jack into the trailer. Someone emerged from the house with some apple and orange slices. They tried to lure Jack in the trailer again but even with the treats he was still hesitant. When he was finally in the trailer the guy tied the led rope to the side of the trailer to secure Jack in place. Everyone said goodbye and we got into the pickup and headed home. • 13. Barrel Racing Essay Barrel racing is a timed event in rodeos where a rider and horse try to complete a clover leaf pattern in the fastest time. It takes skills from the rider and the horse to make a good run. It takes good athletic ability from the horse and good horsemanship from the rider to take a horse safely through the barrels. The judges set up the barrels in a triangle in the center of the arena. There is normally a flagger in the ring that waves a flag when you start and waves it again when you cross the finish line. There is a person that starts and stops the timer when that flag is waved. This event was originally made for women. When barrel racing first started the pattern fluctuated between a figure eight pattern and the clover leaf that is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The fastest time gets a half of a second added onto it to make the 2D division. Then the fastest 1D time gets a whole second added to it to make the 3D division. The 4D division is one and a half seconds added to the fastest time of the whole event. There are some rules in barrel racing. Number one is the fastest time wins. The rider and horse aren't judged on anything but that. If the rider and horse run past a barrel and get out of the pattern, they get a "no time" score or they get disqualified. If the racer or her horse knocks a barrel over, they get a five second penalty which normally gives them a time that is to slow to win or place. There is a sixty second time limit to complete the course. The barrels have to be fifty five gallons, they have to be metal, and they have to be at least two colors. Most competitions also require the rider to wear a long sleeve western shirt that is tucked in, western cut pants or jeans, a western hat, and western boots. The contestant has to be dressed like this one hour before the event. There is also special tack that is used for barrel racing. Bits are one thing. There isn't any rule that says what type of bit you have to use but there are bits that are more common to riders than others. The type of bit used is determined by the riders based on the horses needs. Bits with longer shanks cause the horse to stop faster and bits with shorter shanks are used for more lateral work. We all have watched those crazy western, old time movies, and wanted to be able to get on and ride off into the sunset just like the Indians, cowboy or the wanted rebels. Don't even shake your head, you know you have. Well just your luck, I am here to help you out with that. Getting your horses, or a donkey works too, ready to ride can sometimes be a dreaded process however; once you're on, and have the wind in your hair and the cold crispy fall breeze on your face, it will all be worth the extensive process it takes to go through. Okay first you have to retrieve or fetch your animal of choice you are going to be riding, such as a donkey or a horse. I would prefer a horse, but it's your right as an American to choose. So when you are grooming your animal of choice, take time to talk to them. They won't understand it obviously but certain key words such as, good or their name they will pick up. While talking make sure you are actually grooming them. It is extremely important to get two certain places which includes: their hoofs and their back where the saddle is placed. If you were to forget every other spot somehow, you would make it out alive. The one last thing to include with grooming is to make sure you use fly spray. This is a key step! • 29. Abnormal Psychology Final : Animals Have Been Used From... Abnormal Psychology Final Animals have been used to help in treatment of mental health as far back as 1972 (Trivedi & Perl, 1995). Horses have been shown to be able to calm people and allow them to open up in therapy sessions. There are many people who suffer from post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and exhibit mistrust, easy to react with anger and hyper–aware of their surroundings, characteristics that can be seen in horses. Horses are prey animals and therefor they are very aware of their surroundings and watch body language to see a possible threat, people must be the leader with out being at all aggressive as to scare the horse in to a flight response (MacLean, 2011). For many with PTSD it may be easier to form a trusting, positive relationship with horses that understand them then it can be with people even people they have know for a long time. The horses seem to understand people, reading their body language and mirroring, showing these behaviors more than any other animal and this is what makes them great for therapy, allowing people to open up, relax, be in control, while trusting. The Equine Assisted Growth and Learning Association (EGALA, 2014) has 600 equine assisted therapies programs, but more studies are needed to have evidence of the effectiveness of these programs. PTSD is caused when a person has them selves experiences an unbearable trauma, that causes the symptoms of PTSD. Most often the trauma is from being a victim of sexual assault or a veteran of ... Whipping her head around, Secret whinnied again, and I tried to make eye contact with my mom for reassurance, but I could not spot her in the crowd of people. My anxiety was getting worse and Secret could sense that, which only made her more nervous. When we were told to trot our horses, Secret's behavior became even worse. She started to hop up with her front legs projected above the ground and her back legs following through with little kicks, as if she were preparing to buck. Secret continued her little hops as we rounded the arena and finally Meghan ran into the center of the ring, just in case Secret did end up throwing me to the ground. Although versatility is perfectly fine, you will most likely want to focus on one type of riding. The two main types of horseback riding are english and western. The following is a guide to english riding. The Horse English type horses are usually leggier and more athletically built than the stockier western horses. They are built uphill, which means that their withers are higher than their backs. Horses of any breed can be ridden english, but the breeds that excel in this discipline are: thoroughbreds, warmbloods, gaited horses, and Arabians. This isn 't a matter of the horse 's "spirit," but the western horses are trained to carry their heads a little lower. The horse 's trot is a fast, up–down gait. The english rider will either sit or post to the trot. The canter is even faster than the trot, and it is a three–beat gait. The rider will rock their body to go with the movement of the horse. I was falling, and there was no bed for me to wake up in. Growing up I was always around horses. My mom got into horses as a teenager, and they never left her heart. The minute I was born I was put up in the saddle. Where most families would bond by going swimming, hiking, or to watch a movie, my family bonded by going horseback riding. (Or as we call it, trail riding.) The first horse I remember riding was a beautiful mare (girl horse) named Angel. She was a sweet old white quarter horse who took care of everyone who rode her. I went on many trail rides with her and when she passed away I learned at the early age of six that people's deaths aren't the only deaths we morn. Eventually I moved on and started riding a new horse whose name was Tanka. Tanka was a stubborn and sassy sorrel mare. I really didn't ride her on my own because she probably would've taken advantage of me being a beginner. Since I couldn't ride her on my own my sister Lisa usually rode along on Tanka while I sat behind the saddle, holding on to the edge of it for dear life. One cloudy mid September day my mom decided we should go on a trail ride. Since we didn't have enough horses for everyone who wanted to come on the ride, my mom came up with a plan. Julia Chartier: A Short Story Of My Horse Once upon a time in a far away land called Bromont, Canada, a girl was sitting on a tack box on her phone, waiting to hear from her trainer about a class. Her name was Julia Chartier, she had a sister named Catherine, and her trainer's name was Andy Kocher. She and her sister were riding their horses in a horse show in Canada. Julia was sitting on one of the many large, black tack boxes waiting for her sister to get done hacking her horse, and when Andy came back to the barn on his dirt bike he said, "Well Julia we have a team for the team cup!" She was so surprised that she nearly fell off of the trunk. "But that's tonight, and Luca stopped at the first jump today, and I fell off." she said. Andy then replied with, "You will be fine. ... It has been months since this happened and Julia still talks about it all of the time with her family and friends. She remembers every little detail, and so do her sister and mom. Unfortunately, her dad and her younger brother were not there to see the team's stunning victory. All her friends have to listen to her tell this story repeatedly, and her family does too. Although sometimes she "forgets" to tell people that her score did not count for anything. She still gets excited and sometimes a little nervous when she is talking about her round. Her family still likes to listen to her talk about it, because it was very exciting and they were very proud of her and love to watch her compete. • 117. Ethnography Of A Horse One must first learn the basic body parts of a horse before learning the complications of its conformation. On front of the horse is its head. The neck should be attached to the head and back into the horse's withers. The horse's mane is the long stretch of hair along its neck. The forelock is the little patch of hair in the middle of the horse's head. The wither is where the neck connects to the rest of the horse's body and tends to raise higher than the shoulder. From the horse's shoulder is its forehand (front legs). The top point of the horse's leg is its elbow. In the middle of the leg there is a slight lump. That is the horse's knee. Below the knee is its cannon bone (the long bone starting at the horse's knee to fetlock). Attaching ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... T` he knee should be large, flat, and straight. The cannon bone is shorter than the forehand. These make the horse's ride stable and lengthened. To determine this you should see a straight line through the center of all the bones in the forehand. The forehand also supports about sixty percent of the horse's weight. The length of the forehand will determine the length of the horse's stride. The forehand should be straight and muscled. The terms and causes of an incorrect forearm are; "camped out is when the front leg is too far forward from the body to the ground. Camped under is when the front leg is angling back." This causes the horse to stumble and have a short stride. Splints are unusual growths on the cannon bone. Bowed tendons are the tear of the flexor tendon and leaves an ugly scar. The front legs should also have a certain amount of distance between them. Base wide is when the distance of the front feet on the ground is farther apart than the distance between the front legs at the chest. I have finally found the horse love of my life and found the best friends anyone could ever ask for at the last barn that I find myself there as much as I can and spend almost everyday I have there in the summer. The horse I am currently riding is the craziest but one of the sweetest horses you'll ever meet. This past year me and Stormy competed in the waupaca county fair and really well for our first (and hopefully not the last) show. I got to show with my best friends and it's not a memory to forget like playing in the corn pit with Kendra and Carlee and finding out me and my horse are really good at pole bending. The course of our show was five days horses got there on Wednesday and left on Sunday. But our show day was friday. On wednesday me and my mom had to work the 4–H food and didn't get done until like 2:00 PM and had to rush to get my brother from his friends house and rush over to Connie's and get stormy ready and watched my horse go crazy and then brought her to the fairgrounds. By the time we got there it was like 5:30 . Than got everything organized and rode until it was dark out. The next day was and adventure in it's own self we had the jumping practice and I was going to do jumping or the show and I went to the practice and that's when everything went wrong. Being a Team Tack Shop ambassador would be an excellent way for me to be able to connect with more positive, motivated equestrians. I started riding at the age of eight, when my dad took me to the barn in our neighborhood. I had initially just went to pet the horses, but I ended getting to ride; and that is where it all started. Soon after I started taking lessons at a local barn. Four years later I purchased my first pony, Trigger, from my trainer. I worked so hard for the money to buy Trigger, and I was so proud of him. Sadly I was only able to keep Trigger for about a year before I had to sell him back to my trainer. I still continued with lessons and rode when I could, but I didn't get to purchase my next horse until I was twenty. I purchased Talia in January 2015 and trained her myself. In order to fully groom a horse it's entire body must be brushed along with the mane and tail. All of these steps take a large amount of time. Brushing a horse is a dirty job, plan on wearing clothes that can get dirty. The following paragraphs will explain how to properly groom a horse. THese steps can be completed in another order however this seems to be the most efficient order. In order to groom a horse, first the horse must be caught from pasture. This method is similar to how people pet cats or dogs. Use less pressure when brushing the stomach of a horse because that is a more sensitive area. However, when people do not know what they are doing horses can be dangerous. Over the summer I had gone to visit Claireville Ranch in Brampton, Ontario. The ranch is located close to the city and is a place people go to get away. They offer riding lessons, pony rides, and trail rides. You may also go for hikes and walk your dog. The main area and parking is set a little way off the main road, which makes it quiet. It is a breathtaking area and is great for hikes. However, the horses were kept in a small and dirty paddock behind the barn. They may just be kept there for the day, but it was still not enough space for the amount of horses kept there. There was also an abundance which is understandable at a barn and in the forest, but was still bothersome. The place was extremely crowded with many people riding and waiting at once. We also had to wait for an extremely long time. To get a spot you had to show up a half hour beforehand and then about another half hour for the people to get back, dismount, and then you have to mount. Even with all this the people in charge seemed to keep a somewhat organized schedule. The service was not the best, but was not completely unbearable. You were able to call to ask questions, which would be useful if they picked up the phone. Most of the time the phone went to the answering machine that was little help, repeating what it had said before. You ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

When I found out that I was riding at the Goodells 4–H Fair, I freaked out! It was my second year at Fair. I did a class called Horseless Horse the year before because you have to be 9 to ride and I was only 8 years old and called a participant. But that's okay I still got to work with horses and that's all that mattered to me. Now back to the main story. The only thing that we didn't have was a horse. We searched everywhere and couldn't find anything that was right for me. Then one day at school I got a note from one of my best friends Kylie Guyette who owns two horses. The note said "you can use Paris at the Fair." Now, I was pumped! I kept reading "you can use my saddle at Fair too but don't tell your mom, let my mom tell your mom!"So exactly when I walked into my house, I told my mom. She said "she would talk to her or let her tell my mom."But after that she said i can tell my mom. So I guess now all I could do was wait. But that was going to be hard. A couple days later they were talking about it and they said at the meeting that I could do some showmanship with the horse and see how it worked. • 145. The Expense of Owning a Horse Horses are expensive animals to have around and knowing exactly how expensive before you rush out and buy one is imperative. Usually the cheaper part of getting a horse is the actual purchase price. Horses can cost anywhere between a few hundred to thousands of pounds depending on the type and breed of the horse, the age, who is selling the horse and why, how much training he's had and how experienced he is. Buying a horse from a private seller Buying from a private seller rather than a trainer, breeder or dealer can be a way to get a good deal and save money. Private sellers often advertise in newspapers, on bulletin boards of tack stores or on buy–and–sell websites. If you're inexperienced with horses be sure to bring along someone you trust when seeing a horse. An experienced horseperson will be able to tell if the animal is good for you and whether or not it seems to have any behavioural problems. If your expert feels the horse is sound and good for you, then a vet will determine if the animal is health and suitable for what you want to use it for. Some of the better reasons private owners sell their horses are a change in finances resulting in the horse being too expensive to keep, moving and not being able to take the horse with them, wanting to replace a beginner's horse with a seasoned show animal, children moving out of the house and leaving no one to ride the horse or just generally losing interest in the hobby. The stud–book comprises close to 19,000 active brood mares and 450 approved breeding stallions and covers the largest homogeneous breeding area in Europe (Hanoverian–gb.org.uk, 2017). Goodwin et al., (2008) believes that equine ethology, management, learning theory, skill, and talent combine to influence numerous outcomes in horse–rider interactions. Prices went as high as the then sensational amount of €255,000 for Wahajama by Warkant out of an Acapulco mare, she was very much more expensive, reputedly several million euros, when sold later to Ann–Kathrin Linsenhoff after winning the 5 and 6–year–old Dressage Championships at the Bundeschampionate (Horsemagazine.com, 2017). The behaviour of the horses in the stable was more relaxed when turnout was allowed in addition to training. While reading first–person narratives, it enables readers to understand more information throughout the story. Hearing the thoughts and ideas right from the character makes it easier to make connections. In the short story "George and the Jewels" by Jane Smiley, the main character Abby goes through a transition from disliking horses to understanding them. In "Black Beauty" by Anna Sewell, the story is narrated by a horse who is introduced into a new environment where he has to become used to being rode every day. By examining Black Beauty and The George and Jewels, it shows that both passages use first–person point of view to develop ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... At the end, it shows her being in a relaxed and calm state. Abby is remembering her mare that she tamed back then, wishing to see the horse again. This point of view is important to the story because the reader can understand how she connects with the horse, but unlike her father, she sees them as smart animals and compares them to dogs. By viewing the story in first person, the reader is able to understand Abby's thoughts and feelings in depth about her changing emotions with horses. There is a similar short passage that connects these ideas. Black Beauty uses first–person narratives to interpret the new environment and how the horse feels about the changes. In quote 1, it states, "I had of course been used to a halter and a headstall, and to be led about in the fields and lanes quietly, but now I was to have a bit and bridle, my master gave me some oats as usual, and after a good deal of coaxing he got the bit into my mouth, and the bridle fixed, but it was a nasty thing". It is comparing how Black Beauty used to roam around the field, but now his master started to put on riding gear. The horse felt discomfort when he was first introduced to the bit. The point of view is important because the reader is viewing how Black Beauty went through a new experience that was uncomfortable to get used to. Even though the horse was shown kindness, it was not happy with the new gear. In quote 2, it states, "It certainly did feel queer, but must ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
