Why Should Women Earn Impartial Pay
The possibilities of dreams are endless, but no person can maximize the American Dream on the
minimum wage (Benjamin Todd Jealous). The unequal pay between men and women has persisted for
a while, and it is time that a law should be passed. If a colleague is working just as hard as a person in
that same position, they should not be paid less. A law for wage equality is needed because the hard
work of both men and women should be treated equally. Women who play as good as, or better than
men, earn an impartial pay based on their work. Even if men and women are both very good at the
same sport, being a women interferes with the pay value. For example, WNBA star Candace Parker
earns the league maximum of $111,500 per year. NBA star LeBron James makes $31 ... Show more

In last year s Western Southern Open in Mason, Ohio, for example, Roger Federer earned $731,000
for winning, while Serena Williams received $495,000 68 percent of Federer s prize for her victory the
same day (Stoffers). Although Serena Williams works very hard and wins a tennis championship, she
gets a dissimilar amount of money to congratulate her victory. Furthermore, as women move up in job
positions, the impartial pay value increases. In technology industries, the study found that female
technologists earn as much as men with comparable experience during their first five years of
experience (Pratt).
Although women start out with an equal pay, the more experience they have, the less money they earn
comparable to men. In addition, Lilly Ledbetter worked in the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company in
Gadsden, Alabama, in 1979. Ledbetter s position is high on the experience ladder. But, as Ledbetter
was nearing retirement in 1998, an anonymous tipster left her a note detailing discrepancies between
her salary and those of three men in the same position (Gale Biography In Context). The Goodyear
Tire and Rubber Company is not paying Ledbetter the full salary of men, even

Essay on Sexually Transmitted Diseases
Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STD s), also known as venereal diseases (VD s), are spread by sexual
contact where certain germs travel from one person to another or by the exchange of body fluids.
There is a pithy range of frequent STD s, which include Syphilis, Chlamydia, Genital Herpes,
Gonorrhea, and AIDS. Anyone who is sexually active can contract an STD and more than thirteen
million people are contaminated every single year, three million of which are teenagers. In addition,
there are common symptoms that are acquired by these STD s and transmission may vary for each
kind. Fortunately enough, ways to prevent STD s are possible and there are treatments if an STD is
contracted. General symptoms of STD s can be genital sores, ... Show more content on

To many people s disclosure you can contract an STD fairly rapidly. This can be by unprotected anal,
vaginal or oral sex. Intimate skin contact can also be a way to transmit a disease, for example genital
to genital contact, even without penetration. This type of skin contact can contract diseases like
Gonorrhea, Chlamydia, Herpes, or Syphilis. On the other hand, AIDS, which can be transmitted by
sexual contact, can also be contracted by contact to infected blood or sharing of contaminated needles
for any kind of drug use. So how can you avert being infected, if STD s can be transmitted so easily?
Most people agree that abstinence is the most effective way of preventing STD s. This would include
not having sex at an early age, sex with an assortment of partners or sex with prostitutes. People that
do decide to be sexually active can take diverse safety measures. One way of prevention can be the
use of a condom or another kind of contraceptive against STD s. Others will simply decide to talk to
their partner about other sexual partners they have had in the past who may have been infected, if they
have had or been exposed to an STD, have symptoms of one, or are conscious that they currently are
contracting an STD. On behalf of people that have not decided for abstinence or have not taken
precautions to prevent an STD, this may result in contracting one. Well what can they do? First of all,
it is best to be

The Simple The Better By Wranke Analysis
The Simple the Better In a place filled of talented people, Italy was the location in which performance
was vital in a rich or important person s life. Wranke s article explains how important it was to have
talent, in Italy, during the renaissance. The renaissance is known as the rebirth of painting, sculpting,
and almost everything we could possibly think off. During the renaissance, most artist had a common
enemy known as the court, which was ruled by the most wealthy and powerful families in Italy. The
court was in charge of one s position in society. When an individual would be born in a royal family,
that individual was able to experience life to a new level. Three chamberlains will never suffice in
dressing our lord... (pg. 23). In ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The lords preferred having a good time to relax rather than having a piece of art been done in a
complicate way. This lead to the point in which artists preferred to be ranked together with
philosophers, because painters preferred the intellectually elite status of poets and philosophers... (pg.
28). Even though artists would have had a poor quality lifestyle, for them it was a lot better than been
a buffone because a buffone was a career that lacked respect. The overall purpose of Warnke s article
is the explanation of the financial status that one could expect as a painter, singer and buffone, during
the renaissance time. The author explains his thesis thoroughly, but the reader ends with more
questions regarding the situation that performers would have. The struggle of having work and been
paid not only for the need of money but for the social status as an artist. In this article, the point of
view is that as an artist in the category of paint, doing something that was less time consuming would
leave an individual with better life opportunities, rather than an artist doing complex frescos and
putting their soul into

Debt-To-Equit Ratio
As observed in the graphical representation, there is definitely a clear difference in the value of Debt
to Equit ratio for Aveva inc as compared to that of Drax plc. The financial performance for Aveva as
can be seen on the figure above show a consistent results in every single year, with only FY 2014 205
showing a little rise which can be attributed to the uncertainties in stock markets as a result to
slowdown that was experienced in China and the Asian countries. Drax Plc has had a rise in its DE
ratio continuously. An investor would be interested in the potential of a corporation in terms of its
financial performance and potential for getting the best return for their investments. In 2011, all was

This then indicates that, the equity ratio is about 59% on the capital structure. This shows that, the
equity value was more than the dept. However by the end of 2015, the dept ratio for Aveva was 0.54,
which then translates to 54% of dept versus equity, which will be 46%. In this scenario, the borrowing
exceeded the value of the company equity thus impacting on the market value of the company
negatively. The best case scenario, Aveva investor should consider investing more on the equity and
reduce the dept that the company is facing, this can then redeem the value of the company and thus
possibility realizing stable financial performance in future, Drax group Plc on the other hand, has
experienced drastic compression of its equity value. As of the year 2011 the company was faced with a
dept ratio of about 0.54. This failed to reduce, and instead went higher and as at the end of 2015, the
company dept ratio was about 1.02. This simply means that, the company dept is higher than the
company s value, therefore financial distress in future is highly likely for Drax group

The Theme Of Lolita
I would shed all my pedagogic restraint, dismiss all our quarrels, forgot all my masculine pride and
literally crawl on my knees to your chair, my Lolita! You would give me a one look a gray furry

actions. Humbert is growing reckless, not only bringing their sexual relationship into a public place,
but doing so in the presence of another young girl. The nameless other girl, who is like a doll, with her
porcelain skin and platinum hair and the classroom setting add a new element of depravity to the act,

camps of go into hiding due to Hitler who was anti semitic. While in the annex, she kept a diary and
after she was killed in the concentration camps, later on, this diary was published. After that, a play

At first, Anne was terrified to go into hiding but her positivity and hope showed and taught many
people lessons on how you should look at life. Anne had such a big influence on the people who read
her diary. The play that was constructed off of her diary writings really lets us understand how and
what Anne was feeling along with the others in the house. The Franks in addition to their friends, had
people who helped them out while they were in hiding. This is one reason why Anne would have
thought that people were really good at heart. One prime example is Miep Gies. She helped the Franks
even though she was not faithful in the Jewish religion. Meip replenished everyone in the group by
bringing them what they needed. She had a well thought out tactic that helped her be able to bring
supplies to the secret annex. She never gave up on them and helped them through their entire hiding.
This shows that people may not believe in the same things as you, but deep in their heart, they are
willing to help anyone in need. The group of people hiding in the secret annex was in need, they had
no way of getting food or any other supplies. This is where Miep came in to help them. She brought
them the food, plus all of the supplies that they needed, therefore, making them live much longer than
they should have. In the play, you could tell how happy the family was to see her. On page 326, we

Pascal s Wager Research Paper
Blaise Pascal, a genius, mathematician, physicist, and religious philosopher, says that there are two
options in the benefits of life when it comes to theism. The two choices are: to believe in God, or not
to believe in God. Pascal calls this dilemma a wager. It is a wager because there are different gains and
losses from the two options, depending on whether or not God exists. If God exists, the believers will
have eternal life, and the non believers will receive damnation. If God does not exist, the believers
will have been left out on the material fulfillments, and the non believers will have reaped those
benefits. Pascal s wager could be used as an evangelism method, because it can be used to frighten
people into theism. I believe Pascal ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It would appear to be a safer bet to believe in God, because one would not have to worry about eternal
damnation. Finite material luxuries cannot compare to eternal life. Pascal s wager could scare some
people into believing in God; however, there is a problem with it. One would choose to believe in God
for their own benefit, rather than for the love of Christ. The belief could be pretended, and the person
would treat eternal life as a reward and a way to avoid damnation, rather than following Christ
genuinely. In John 14:23, Jesus says If anyone loves me, he will keep my word, and my Father will
love him, and we will come to him and make our home with

Persuasive Essay About Uniforms
Many different types of uniforms are currently being worn today, but the people wearing them will
either hold them with an honorific or stigmatic connotation. This paints a very black and white
picture, but it would be hard to find someone who would consider their uniform as both an honor and
a mark of disgrace. This is a result of some uniforms being a punishment or being forced to wear,
while others are earned through very hard work and dedication. Almost everyone has worn a uniform
that they were proud of wearing and a uniform that they were less than enthusiastic about; however
most people would agree that they distinctly remember a specific uniform they feel strongly about,
whether or not it was an honorific or stigmatic one. Throughout my life I have worn many different
uniforms as well, but for whatever reason the ones I have disliked always stick out to me the most. My
least favorite off them all was my Sears uniform, it held so many negative thoughts in my head, it was
hard to picture. The simple thought of putting it on could ruin my entire day. There were many
experiences behind this, but here are a few reasons my Sears uniform was a stigmatic one.
My Sears uniform represented everything I had hated about the store in the first place. The uniform
was an old blue collared shirt with a cheaply made pair of khaki pants, all put together with black
sneakers. These boring and bland articles of clothing were a constant reminder of the dying store I was

Symptoms And Treatment Of Alzheimer s Disease Essay
At 16 years old, I listened carefully as my grandmother described in detail her daugher who lived in
Utah with 4 girls, one of those being myself. Though it seemed her memory was very clear on the
subject, she did not realize that I was one of those 4 girls. My grandma has Alzheimer s disease. She
started showing mild signs of it around the age of 75 and it has slowly progressed over the years. Now,
10 years later her memory is almost completely gone.
Alzheimer s disease is an irreversible, abnormal, progressive deterioration of the brain that causes
victims to steadily lose the ability to remember, reason, and comprehend (Wardlaw 719). At first it
may start with things such as: forgetting important dates or events, repeating oneself multiple times, or
needing reminders more often than usual. Eventually it may progress to experiencing challenges in
completing simple tasks, difficulty concentrating, and confusion. Geriatric psychiatrist, Robert
Santulli states, Alzheimer s disease involves loss of short term memory but also other things like the
ability to express yourself with language, the ability to perform certain routine tasks like getting
yourself dressed or operating a piece of equipment. It has a lot of emotional symptoms that can go
along with it as well such as depression or anxiety, sleep disturbance, agitation, and so forth (Santulli).
At the beginning, I remember my grandma as we drove to a hike asking Where are we going? to
which my grandpa would patiently

Danger Of Imagination In Atonement By Ian Mcewan
How does McEwan explore the danger of an imagination that can t quite see the boundaries of what is
real and what is unreal ?
Ian McEwan s 2001 metafiction text Atonement explores the danger of an imagination which cannot
differentiate between reality and fantasy. Atonement follows the detrimental effects of Briony Tallis lie
which convicted the innocent Robbie Turner and ultimately destroyed her relationship with Cecilia
Tallis, her older sister. Through innocence, negative consequences, and the significance of the title, Ian
McEwan is able to thoroughly explore the danger of an imagination that can t quite see the boundaries
of what is real and what is unreal.

Ian McEwan uses the letters as a narrative device to catalyse Briony Tallis dangerous imagination in
correlation to the events which follow. There are many letters embedded into the text which are used
to reveal the innermost thoughts of the central characters. McEwan uses parody of Austen s style when
Briony reads in my dreams I kiss your c t. Ian McEwan employs this word to mislead the reader s
belief in Robbie s character. McEwan employs parody of Northanger Abbey to attribute to the
effectiveness of letters, and shock the reader. The use of c t would not be expected in an Austen novel
which presents conservative beliefs in conventional language. Ian McEwan utilises allusion of
Vladimir Nabokov s Lolita to depict the relationship between Paul Marshall and Lola Quincey. The
reader is aware of this allusion through the naming of Lola Quincey, similar to the protagonist of
Lolita. This allusion foreshadows the rape of Lola, Paul is not convicted when Briony claims that she
saw him [Robbie], with her own two eyes. McEwan uses this allusion to portray how Briony s
imagination convinces her that Paul Marshall is innocent while Robbie Turner is the criminal.
Through allusion to Lolita, McEwan suggests to the reader that the novel will be dark and disturbing,
similar to Nabokov s novel and the gothic literature pastiche which McEwan utilises. McEwan is able
to force the reader to consider the dangers of a mind which cannot distinguish real from unreal by
highlighting how falsification from an imaginative mind lead to

How The Recommended System Meets Health Insurance...
Explain how the recommended system meets Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act
(HIPAA) requirements. HIPAA of 1996 brings compliance requirements that require significant
challenges for healthcare providers. HIPAA has five separate Titles and is colossal (United States
Department of Health Human Services, n.d.). The Administrative Simplification requires the
formation of national standards for HIE transactions and nationwide identifiers for providers, health
insurance plans, and employers (United States Department of Health Human Services, n.d.). The
Administrative Simplification also addresses the security and privacy of healthcare information
(United States Department of Health Human Services, n.d.). The criteria are meant to improve the
quality and efficiency of America s health care system by encouraging the widespread use HIE.
Furthermore, with the signing into law of the ARRA of 2009, a number of new measures were enacted
under HITECH. HITECH extends the HIPAA Security and Privacy Rule requirements for individual
patient rights, such as, the right of access to EHRs (United States Department of Health Human
Services, n.d.). Additional rights include the receipt of accounting disclosures when made from an
EHR and the right to restrict disclosures of PHI when self paid (United States Department of Health

Social Justice warriors come by the hundreds and thousands storming new channels, blogs, and any

all this goes wrong I now claim that school systems mistreatment of young adults specifically is
rooted deeper within the foundation of most of this country than most people suspect. Simply, there

Britain, Australia and the United States of America has led to a substantial impact on shaping
Australian society and where Australia are today. The fall of Singapore and the Malaya campaign

Chemistry And Application Of Click Chemistry
Click Chemistry and Application
Zhuo Wang
Abstract:
Discuss the history, mechanism and application of Click chemistry . Through the introduction of Click
chemistry , demonstrate the role it plays in chemical biology filed, the typical synthesis way of this
concept, and current application in drug synthesis and research.
Keywords:
Click chemistry, vivo system, Huisgen 1,3 dipolar cycloaddition, CuAAC, Diels Alder reaction
Introduction:
The phrase click chemistry was invented by K. Barry Sharpless in 1998, and was first integrally
described by Sharpless, Hartmuth Kolb, and M.G. Finn of The Scripps Research Institute in 2001.[1]
[2]
In Chemical synthesis, Click Chemistry is a category bio compatible reactions which have potential to
be the special synthesis way of specific bio molecules. It is not an isolated specific synthesis reaction,
but include a sort of relevant products, which also engenders big molecule by linking small specific
molecules together. Usually click reactions link a bio molecule and a target molecule. Click chemistry
is not limited to biological field, the idea of a click reaction has been applied in pharmacological and
various bio mimetic applications. However, they have been made significantly appliance in the
detection, localization and qualification of bio molecules.
Click reactions are one pot reactions, which are not hindered by water, generate mineral salt and
inoffensive byproducts, and are characterized by a high thermodynamic driving

The Island Of Dr. Moreau
Throughout time ethically controversial sciences, from vivisection to stem cell research, have
embodied a negative stereotype in the eyes of western societies, and have consequently withdrawn the
freedom that allows scientists to make innovative discoveries. In H.G. Wells novel The Island of
Doctor Moreau, this perspective is portrayed through Edward Prendick, an upper class English
gentleman with a subtle passion for science. After being stranded on a remote pacific island isolated
from civilization, Prendick s perspective on Dr. Moreau s unethical and controversial studies begins to
transform over time. The idea that isolation from civilization can result in the freedom to explore one s
curiosity is portrayed through Prendick s initial unacceptance of Moreau s vivisection, which, as time
on the island elapses, reshapes to one of interest. In The Island of Doctor Moreau, as Edward Prendick
spends more time away from civilized society, his perspective regarding Dr. Moreau s ethically
controversial discipline, vivisection, begins to shift from a sense of repugnance to one of enthusiasm.
Through these perspectives, H.G. Wells argues that Prendick s isolation from civilization is the
principle force allowing him to freely embrace the unethical studies on the island and explore his
natural curiosity for science, whereas the consequences from negative stereotypes surrounding
controversial science would discourage this curiosity in a civilized society.
Initially, since Prendick

The Train Speeding Along The Tracks Beneath Me
I could hear the sound of the train speeding along the tracks beneath me. Looking outside my window,
I could see a blur of parched grass and vast paddocks of sheep drinking from lakes.
I was in a dim mood. My parents had sent me away from our home town Braedon to spend time with
my grandmother in the country town of Redwood, because, as they bluntly put it, she wouldn t be
around for many more years. I didn t mind visiting my grandpa, but I hated that the fact that I had to

When I travel, no matter how different the place is to Braedon, I often feel an instant connection. It s
the small details which lead me to find a love for the city. Say, like last year, I found my way into a
remote village in Kenya. It was unforgettable. I can still picture the welcoming locals, smiling at me
and the other tourists...
For the remaining hour of the trip, I reflected on my opinion of travelling. All my life, I lived in the
city and due to my routined lifestyle, I was rarely anywhere unfamiliar. I disliked travelling as I feared
being alone, facing something new. Yet after talking to Chris, I began to realise the golden opportunity
I had to experience all the world had to offer to me.
Eventually, the train had come to a halt at my stop Redwood. The deserted train station, which catered
for the whole town, was tiny, with only two short platforms. Along the flat landscape, I could see rows
of houses and the town s church, the steeple proudly and loftily reaching to the clear blue sky.
I farewelled Chris and got off the train with my suitcase. The air was crisp, clean and clear. I thought
of the dusty city air and gridlocked streets with car fumes. How big was this difference? I decided to
forget my past impressions of Redwood and instead try to enjoy my stay with my grandpa.

Analysis Of The Kansas City Preventive Patrol Experiment
The Kansas City Preventative Patrol Experiment was conducted in October 1972 by the Kansas City

streets can prevent individuals from committing crimes. Areas of the city were assigned either no
routine patrols the proper level of patrols and substantially increased patrols. The concept of
preventive patrol postulated the self evident truth that the mere presence of the police or reasonable
potential for their presence would deter criminals from committing offenses in the immediate
geographic area of the patrol (Deployment by analysis, 2000).
The beginning of the experiment assigned officers to patrol areas called beats. Each officer patrols his
or her beat until assigned a call by the police dispatcher (Cornder, 2016, p. 386). The patrol
experiment varied 15 beats, but the routine preventative patrol was

Impact Of The Gettysburg Address
How the Gettysburg Address Changed the World 154 years ago, Abraham Lincoln stepped out onto a
muddy field with the intention of giving a speech meant to change America. Despite all the doubts the
Northern States had about whether the cost of the Civil War was worth it, Lincoln traveled to
Gettysburg, Pennsylvania and dedicated the land. He called upon Americans to continue the fight
these soldiers died for, and in doing this, he required them to redeem the liberty and nationalism that
our country was founded on. As a result, Lincoln joined the Northern States want for equality and
freedom with the African Americans aspirations for liberty. Many writers have the opinion that an
author must spend a lot of time on their work. It is the common thought that the longer an author
spends, the more impact the work will have on their audience. Lincoln spent days writing his speech
and as a result, his speech is now one of the most well known in the world. His eloquent vocabulary
and carefully thought out form both contribute to how effectively he could reach his audience at
Gettysburg. As Donald Murray says, one of the first things writers need to be aware of in their drafts is
their audience. They put themselves in the reader s situation and make sure that they deliver
information which a reader wants to know or needs to know in a manner which is easily digested.
Lincoln does this very effectively, writing his entire speech in colloquial language so that his audience

This all means nothing if the reader is actually struggling to read the content. There are sites out there

The ideal background is white, with black text. As simple as that. In fact the more white space on your

Implications Of Septic Arthritis On The Family
Implications of Septic Arthritis on the Family. Having a child hospitalized causes an increase in the
levels of stress and anxiety for any caregiver. It has been found that hospitalization causes parents and
siblings of the child to feel a sense of loss of control and confusion (Commodari, 2010). Stress can
lead to more serious problems in the individual, and the family as a whole. Intensive psychosocial
intervention in inpatients and outpatients is found to have a positive impact on child and family
functioning, therefore reducing stress levels (Commodari, 2010). Nurses must help these families
transition into this new environment by providing interventions, and helping families to identify and
utilize resources (Commodari, 2010). Currently, there are no political or legislative implications
regarding septic arthritis. There is no current legislative activity surrounding the issue. Patient Safety.
Health care professionals, as a whole, must take responsibility for establishing safe methods of care
that involve preventing errors and adverse events. These methods should also establish methods of
identifying and reporting errors and adverse events when they do occur ( NEW AAP POLICY

improved, American Academy of Pediatrics recommends expanding the focus of patient safety to
ambulatory care ( NEW AAP POLICY STATEMENT ON PATIENT SAFETY, 2011). American

Narrative Essay About Baseball
Lights blaring into my eyes, the crack of the bat, the shouting of the overly devoted parents, the salty
aroma arising off of the freshly roasted peanuts, all came together to create the overwhelming
presence of a little league baseball game. This was a place where I spent most of my time on week day
afternoons, in the spring, watching my brother succeed at America s pastime. He was really quite good
at this sport called baseball; he had just been granted the position of starting pitcher for the team.
Sometimes things that have occurred in my life, and stuff I have received, that I may not have
necessarily deserve, can be taken for granted. However, after what was about to take place my eyes
are given a new perspective. My brother s baseball game had just concluded, which was marked by
the sound of a buzzer. The final score: 14 4. His team had clearly won, and the parents around were
saying Congratulations son!
However all my brother needed from me was a good game! Mainly because it was an expectation,
from my dad and I that Austin would play well.
My dad figured in order to celebrate the win, we would run by Dairy Queen and pick up a little snack
size Blizzard. However, we would never make it there...
Sitting in the car while my dad was driving us home, we came to a stop at a red light. I can still
remember Katy Perry s voice in the background as we came to that stop, saying Do you ever feel, like
a plastic bag. When the light turned green, my dad accelerated

Spencer s Position
1. Explain Spelke s position on the nature/nurture debate? Spelke s position focuses more on the
nature side of the debate as she describes her core knowledge theory. What this theory suggests is that
humans are born with innate knowledge that can be divided into four systems involving objects,
people, numbers, and space. In other words, Spelke believes that humans are born with certain
knowledge in each of these systems, which then provide a basis for learning from new experiences. In

Congruence In Social Work Research Paper
Congruence is an essential part of social work practice and being a facilitator of group work. As
described by Shalka (2009), congruence is when one s feelings, thinking, and behaviour are in
alignment and when one s actions are consistent with their values and beliefs. Furthermore, it is when
our actions are informed by our principles. Moreover, acting in congruence is vital in social work
because of its nature, which revolves around helping other people live better lives. As prescribed by
the BCASW Code of Ethics (2011), social workers are obligated to act as professionals in the best
interest of their client, ensuring that they respect the client s intrinsic worth and that they work from a
place of integrity and objectivity. These social work values should be adopted personally as well as

back, I know during that time I judged women who stayed in abusive relationships, not understanding
why they would not just leave them. However, this was a quite hypocritical viewpoint, because I

Effects Of Sondheim s Nonconformity On Musical Theatre
Sondheim s Nonconformity and Its Effect on Musical Theatre
Musical theatre performance, which presents fictional plots and impresses audiences with show
stopping dance and song, unites dramatic works across the globe. American musical theatre,
specifically, draws inspiration from European straight plays, burlesques, and operas, while
dramatizing American topics. Nineteenth century musical comedies use entertaining situations, rather
than plot, to frame performances involving song, dance, and humor. For example, George M. Cohan s
works, although inspired by European musical theatre, fail to please audiences as its unified music and
book neglect the plot. By the twentieth century, however, pioneers such as Oscar Hammerstein II

In contrast to early American musical comedies, whose songs separate the characters from the action,
Sondheim carefully crafts his songs, with every word serving both the actor and the audience. When
writing a musical, he thinks as the character, attempting and usually succeeding at portraying his
situation. As Arthur Laurents, one of his collaborators, said, Steve...is the only lyricist who almost
always writes songs for the characters they are written for (Michener 384). Since he writes the songs
for the characters, each word has a specific purpose, but he still puts a twist on established devices of
musical theatre. Musical theatre often contains rhyme, but Sondheim s rhymes provide emphasis
because all rhymes draw attention to the rhymed word (Sondheim, Finishing the Hat, xxvii). Since the
songs words signify a profound amount of meaning, Sondheim makes sure that the lyrics and rhythms
work for the character and the actor. Getting Married Today in Company demonstrates this
particularity. On Amy s wedding day, she experiences doubt in marrying Paul, expressed through a
fast paced frenzy of thoughts and emotions. So that this whirl of emotions does not become too
chaotic, Sondheim s word choice allows the actress playing Amy to capitalize on every word, as he
calculates the song to alternate vowel and consonant sounds in such a way as to make them easy for
the tongue, teeth, and breath to articulate (184). Thus, every word in Getting Married Today has a
specific purpose, unlike the lyrics of other musicals without such a careful word choice. While the
audience needs to use the lyrics to understand the plot, Sondheim s intelligence and wit leaves the
audience marveling at what clever things he does with words (Banfield 113). In his songs, Sondheim
wants to show off his literary skills while staying true to the

Consumerism Bruce Dawe Essay
Consumerism Bruce Dawe Poetry || 2009
Every society has mythology. In some societies, it s religion. Our religion is consumerism. As we are
constantly exposed to mass media and popular culture in our modern society, the insidious nature of
consumerism has allowed it to penetrate into every aspect of our lives, dictating our very beliefs,
values and wants. Nearly every individual in our society subconsciously conforms to the shallow and
superficial mindset that characterises our consumerist culture. This idea is highlighted by the
following texts; the poem Enter without so much as knocking by Bruce Dawe, an extract from the
sermon The Religion of Consumerism delivered by Peter House, the poem Breakthrough by Bruce

This text clearly shows that consumerism is responsible for many of the decisions we make regarding
our life.
Bruce Dawe often deals with the issue of consumerism in his poems. Another of his works that
underlines how much consumerism affects our lives is his poem Breakthrough . The italicised words
at the start of the poem A little girl is reported to have died happily...singing an advertising
commercial. show the extent to which consumerism has affected this girl. On her deathbed, instead of
turning to a traditional faith or religion, she has instead turned to commercialism and consumerism,
highlighting the fact that consumerism has become more relevant and important than traditional
religions, especially to the younger generations. In the first stanza the first three lines starting with
Full volume up on the celestial choir! serve to cheapen her death and turn it instead into some sort of a
production. Full volume up and Stand by for action are examples of advertising jargon used to further
emphasise the point that consumerism exploits and demeans even something as serious as death. The
frail heart crumples like a paper cup compares something as wonderful and life giving as a human
heart to something as cheap and disposable as a paper cup. This serves as a reminder of

What Are The Causes Of Gas Prices
The US consumed 142 billion gallons of gasoline in 2007 and the tax applied on it is 18. 4 cents on
one gallon. All around the US, there are around 162,000 retail gasoline outlets. With the price of crude
oil hovering around $100 a barrel, it is no wonder that concern is growing about the gas prices being
so high. After all, modern economies are kept moving by this lifeblood. For instance, in the United
States alone personal vehicles consume more than 140 billion gallons of diesel fuel and gasoline per
year. However, there are several factors that contribute to the gas prices being so high. Given below are

Gas Prices affected by Geopolitics and Supply problems Along with the demand for oil rising, many
disruptions to the supply have created bottlenecks. For example, the war in Iraq has resulted in
reducing oil production there, as has also happened in Nigeria due to rebel activity. The continuing
nuclear weapons wrangle with Iran, the government increasing its control over industry in Russia, and
the oil companies being nationalized in Venezuela has given rise to misgivings about future
supplies. In recent years, refining crude oil in the US has also become more expensive, with experts
citing two main reasons for this: congressional mandates resulting in shifting towards the production
of more environmentally clean gasoline blends, and the oil refineries on the Gulf Coast being
devastated by Hurricanes Katrina and Rita in the year 2005. In addition, the production of crude oil in
America has also become costlier since the places that have been easiest to drill have largely gone
dry. This means that oil companies have to go increasingly into offshore oil producing areas such as
the Gulf of Mexico, which cost much more to drill in. With oil companies having to access harder to
reach locations, which makes it costlier to produce oil, and simultaneously them being forced to

that creating the most powerful hacking software is the best course of action, this will only lead to
more cyber terrorism at the expense of everyday citizens. Looking to the past, it is obvious that
engaging in an arms race can often lead to escalated conflicts. Some security experts warn that
governments do not yet understand the power of the hacking tools being created, and that the situation
is growing dangerously similar to the arms race induced powder keg Europe was before World War I
erupted (Matthews). Although they were physical, arms races in the past led to such horrific conflicts
such as the first World War and terrifying time periods such as the Cold War. Governments should be
approaching this situation with much more caution. In order to ensure both the safety of the citizens of

Oral Culture Of The Late Middle Ages
Given the prevalence of books, magazines, and newspapers in everyday life today, it is difficult to
imagine a world without print. The transition from the essentially oral culture of the late Middle Ages
to the print culture of the Renaissance fundamentally changed human interaction. In Western society,
the invention of the printing press and subsequent widespread literacy signaled the shift away from a
primarily oral culture to a literate, print culture. Many scholars, including Plato and Harold Innis, have
suggested that the advantages of an oral culture exceed those of a print culture. Even further, the past
few decades have seen calls to orality, or propositions that we must return to oral culture to balance
print culture. As seen through a lens of the history of print culture, the benefits of literacy and a
predominantly print culture outweigh the benefits of an oral culture because of the impact print has
had on standardized language and national consciousness, the field of science and accuracy, and the
quick dissemination of information and dialogue. Through a comparison of advancements during the
Print Revolution and current features of modern society, I will argue that there is no need to re
embrace orality because elements of oral culture already exist in our modern print culture.
The Print Revolution was marked by the invention of the printing press and growing industrial
capitalism in Europe. The idea of capitalism enabled publishers to seek mass markets for

Gospel Of Luke Salvation Essay
Luke s Gospel specifically shows special concerns for those that are oppressed, looked down upon,
and outcasts of society. Jesus tends to reach out to those people. Why? Jesus is challenging attitudes
that limit God s care or blessings to any particular group or nation. And then proceeds to insist that the
gospel proclaimed is a message of hope for all people. Salvation is a huge part of the Gospel of Luke,
there are a plethora of examples of what it means to be saved. And in the many examples found in the
Gospel of Luke, it is either God/Jesus, or their respective actions that bring salvation. Tax Collectors
fall under that category of those that believed in the time of Jesus that salvation was not quite
available to them.
Tax Collectors were not highly respected in Roman Territories. The people hated the tax collectors for
several reasons. First and foremost, they were tax collectors. And that meant in Rome you could tax
whatever amount you wanted as long as Rome got their base taxes. So often, as I m sure most of you
may know, they would abuse that power and get a lot of money that way. It s like if you got a $500 tax

Descartes Meditation 4 Essay
By the start of Meditation Four Descartes has established the reliability of his clear and distinct
criterion of knowledge, and he has concluded that he exists as an essentially thinking thing and that
the idea of an infinite, perfect being entails God s existence. Descartes has also eliminated concern
about being systematically deceived, since acting in such a way would be indicative of some
deficiency rather than the exercise of some power, and God is perfect. This generates further
questions, as humans do regularly judge falsely, even without the meddling of a malicious, deceptive
being (99). Given God s nature, attributing error to him is unacceptable, but, conversely, how could
humans be blamed for the faulty faculty of judgement that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Descartes begins by distinguishing the real and positive idea of God from the opposite negative idea
of nothingness, placing himself in the middle of this spectrum (99). He is finite and imperfect but, as
God s creation, his nature contains nothing which itself facilitates mistakes. Since he exists between
God and nothingness, however, he also participate[s] in nothingness or non being (99 100). Errors of
judgement, then, must stem from nothingness, the absolute absence of all perfection. Mistakes are not
things resulting from an error making faculty dependent on God, but instead lackings of a limited,
fallible faculty of judgement. This answer, Descartes admits, does not fully address the problem, since
a lacking is not a pure negation and implies that something which ought to be present is missing.
Could God have failed to grant some perfection that we should possess? Descartes contrasts his own
weak and limited nature with God s immense, incomprehensible and infinite nature, deeming that God
s reasoning is beyond the scope of his understanding and that, feasibly, a world with errors is best
when examined in its entirety

two police officers wanting to eradicate a drug trafficking network. This action packed crime film
demonstrates the drug problems that are currently happening with Strait of Gibraltar. Although both

Walls In The Cask Of Amontillado
In the mid nineteenth century Romantic trend in American Literature, authors often used the idea of
walls that human beings place between themselves and others both physically and symbolically.
Unlike a fence of gate, which imply a way in or out, a wall is a sound structure. A wall is a barrier to
block someone else out, or is it used to block yourself in? First, walls of both kinds are seen in the
poetry and fiction of Edgar Allan Poe. In, The Cask of Amontillado, a physical wall is being built
around a chained, Fortunato, forever forcing him to remain among the catacomb. Montresor has built

become trapped by a symbolic wall of guilt as he is laying the last of the stone. The Raven, also by
Poe, shows of a wall between the narrator and the refrained term, nevermore. The narrator does not

Father Hooper, a character in The Ministers Black Veil, has put a wall up between himself and his
parishioners with the simple adornment of a veil. The veil is symbolic of secret and sin the Father is
trying to hide from the world. A secret so massive, it is not even to be removed by his Fiancee ,
Elizabeth. While he, himself will not let his secrets be known until his earthly departure, it can be
presumed that they carry the weight of infidelity. On his deathbed, Father Hooper described seeing a

Benghazi Analysis

Benghazi: Does It Really Matter? Why Benghazi? Did Benghazi have anything to offer? Yes, there
was a point in attacking the United States consulate in Benghazi. Some people believe that this attack
was planned to coincide with the day the World Trade Center was destroyed. Others believe it the
Innocence of Muslims video released on Youtube that caused the uproar of violence. Political blogger
Kevin Drum wrote in his article Yes, the Innocence of Muslims Video Really Did Play a Role In The

Benghazi: The Definitive Report is a book written by Brandon Webb and Jack Murphy; the very first
sentence of their prologue goes like this The deadly attack on the consulate in Benghazi, Libya,
symbolically coinciding with the eleventh anniversary of the terrorist attacks of September 11th, 2001,
triggered a confluence of events that spilled into U.S domestic politics, military covert operations and
a number of classified CIA programs. (Webb, Murphy 1). Benghazi, although it was a terrorist attack
on United States single handedly changed so many things in the U.S that it influenced the public
opinion of many things. Benghazi exposed how the C.I.A and Obama were illegally supporting the
transportation of weapons into an unstable country to pursue their own interests. Benghazi proved to
the U.S that even though they may have helped the countries does not mean they are friends. It has
shown that smaller organizations have risen in the background, allowed to take hold because the
United States was only paying attention to the groups letting themselves be known. The U.S realized
their fatal mistake of minor security and increased consulate security globally. Ambassador Chris
Stevens and all the others that died had a purpose. When these people died they became part of
something bigger, starting a chain of events that continue into the modern day United

Persuasive Essay On Poverty In America
Poverty in America is greatly known all around the world. For many years the nation s education
levels of children during school and insurance is a huge pillar that holds up poverty in the U.S.A. As a
country we have not done enough to overcome poverty. Even with new organizations being formed to
help with enhancements of education, like the America Gives More Act, the nation hasn t made the
Early Warning Systems or have improved influences for college saving plans.
According to the Huffington Post, forty five million Americans are living in poverty. The U.S. has
attempted to decrease this by enhancing the education system and bettering insurance costs for
struggling families. The America Gives More Act was apart of advancing the U.S. This restored and
expanded three charitable giving incentives such as food inventories, conservation easements, the IRA
rollover, as well as streamline the foundation excise tax stated in National Council of Nonprofit.
Community College to Career Fund Act was passed so Americans with low income are able to get the
training they need for better paying jobs. The Fraken.Senate.Gov document implies that community
colleges are harshly unfunded compared to four year colleges, and this Act will create a grant program
that will increase funding. Better funding comes better training, which means better jobs and pay,
which then decreases poverty for many Americans.
The Community Investment and Empowerment Act described on GovTrack is

2.1 Technical Preparation
A good penetration tester must be technically competent and methodical. In many situations, a test
team is more appropriate than an individual tester. 2 Care must be taken in selecting, installing and
configuring the platforms used to perform the testing. Although there are several commercial tools that
can be used to perform penetration tests such as Internet Scanner® from Internet Security Systems3,
free tools will be used throughout this testing. Kurtz and Prosise make an excellent point when they
claim; Running a commercial vulnerability scanner is penetration testing is a myth. 4 There are several
problems with simply running a vulnerability scanner and assuming that a complete penetration test
has been performed. The first is that the vulnerability scanners are only as good as the person running
them. As will be discussed latter in this paper, there is more to performing a penetration test than just
finding

Syrian Refugees Crisis Research Paper

Syrian Refugee Crisis
Syria s civil war is a really big problem in our society right now. Many of the people living there have
been killed or forced to leave the country. The issue is starting to be an immense problem for many
European countries. Many families are leaving Syria and seeking asylum in different countries such
as: Lebanon, Jordan, and Turkey. These people are wanting to make new homes in these countries but
face many overwhelming struggles. The conditions of Syria are horrible. People are becoming sick
due to lack of sanitation and kids are ill treated and famished. Most kids have dropped out of school
and many children are forced to work to support their families. These families have decided that

The Unites States economy would have a positive impact if we allowed refugees to come in.
According to Studebaker, foreign born immigrants contribute almost $19,000 more in tax receipts
each decade than they consume in government benefits. This means the refugees pay for their public
services. Refugees would contribute lots of money so in return states could build new schools and
employ more teachers to teach the influx of new children. The website benjaminstudebaker.com also
stated that the Government would make a net profit of $3,000 per immigrant over the next decade for
an overall gain of $30 million. So immigrants are a positive investment for our society. Also,
immigrants have to go through a 20 month process to be admitted into the U.S. So you can assume
that these refugees are going to be safe. Probably the most important argument is that taking refugees
in is the right thing to do. According to the Jewish Journal whoever saves a life, it is considered as if
he saves an entire world. So America could be the great savior and help Syrian refugees to have a
good life and safe future. No Syrian refugee has been arrested on a terrorism charge so it would be
safe to say the threat is minimal. Also, The US owes these refugees. Without the US invasion of Iraq
in 2003, there would have been no al Qaeda in that part of the world, and no al Qaeda offshoots like
Daesh/ ISIL according to AlterNet. The U.S also has accepted almost 20,000 refugees from Iraq last
year so it is really foolish to not accept Syrians but to accept Iraqis. AlterNet also concluded that the
united states has to step up and face one of the world s great humanitarian crises. Another good reason
for America to take in Syrian refugees because the need is crucial. Most Syrians are homeless and
others have been forced to flee the country. Europe is

Congress Passed The Budget Control Act
On August 2, 2011, Congress passed the Budget Control Act (BCA) of 2011 which cut $487 billion
from projected defense spending over the next 10 years.1 The act also established a system of
sequestration, which would cut an additional $495 billion from the defense budget.2 Altogether, the
BCA would cut almost $1 trillion dollars from the Department of Defense (DoD). The passing of the
BCA and the subsequent loss of funding mark an end to a 13 year period of robust budget allocations
to support the global war on terrorism. From 2001 to 2013 over $1.6 trillion has been allocated to the
DoD to support preparations for and execution of operations in various overseas areas.3 Within this
$1.6 trillion, 94% of the funding was allocated to support operations in Iraq and Afghanistan.4 This
robust amount of funding cultivated a culture within the DoD that there would always be funding
available to cover costs at home and abroad. This culture is deeply entrenched within the United States
Army due to large budgets provided to the Army over the past 13 years. In today s environment of
shrinking budgets, this culture can no longer stand true and must be changed. Establishing a cost
conscious culture (CCC) within the Army is critical to our ability to sustain the current Army force
structure and make the needed modernization investments to ensure our capability to fight and win our
nations wars.
Our world continues to remain a violent, uncertain, complex, and ambiguous environment.

Strategy Target Audience
After analysis, it has been decided that the target audience will be very large but will include different
types of customers for specific communications. Most of the audience that the communications will
appeal to will already have set up a bank account or have taken out a mortgage. Therefore, it has been
decided that rather than creating a better value image for Williams and Glyn s Bank, it is better to
communicate to customers who are looking for a trustworthy bank.
1 Demographics
Age
Age of target audience has been considered carefully because if media advertisement is to be most
effective, it must target age ranges depending on where and when those advertisements will be seen.
There are 2 types of banking for individual customers: Personal banking and Private banking.
Personal banking has products such as the current account and this will attract a larger age range, for
example students as well as people from the ages of 23 55. Students are aged between 18 22 and this
account is only suitable for students at university. They offer interest free overdrafts that help students

  • 2. Why Should Women Earn Impartial Pay The possibilities of dreams are endless, but no person can maximize the American Dream on the minimum wage (Benjamin Todd Jealous). The unequal pay between men and women has persisted for a while, and it is time that a law should be passed. If a colleague is working just as hard as a person in that same position, they should not be paid less. A law for wage equality is needed because the hard work of both men and women should be treated equally. Women who play as good as, or better than men, earn an impartial pay based on their work. Even if men and women are both very good at the same sport, being a women interferes with the pay value. For example, WNBA star Candace Parker earns the league maximum of $111,500 per year. Although women start out with an equal pay, the more experience they have, the less money they earn comparable to men. On the other hand, AIDS, which can be transmitted by sexual contact, can also be contracted by contact to infected blood or sharing of contaminated needles for any kind of drug use. So how can you avert being infected, if STD s can be transmitted so easily? Most people agree that abstinence is the most effective way of preventing STD s. This would include not having sex at an early age, sex with an assortment of partners or sex with prostitutes. People that do decide to be sexually active can take diverse safety measures. One way of prevention can be the use of a condom or another kind of contraceptive against STD s. Others will simply decide to talk to their partner about other sexual partners they have had in the past who may have been infected, if they have had or been exposed to an STD, have symptoms of one, or are conscious that they currently are contracting an STD. • 4. The Simple The Better By Wranke Analysis The Simple the Better In a place filled of talented people, Italy was the location in which performance was vital in a rich or important person s life. Wranke s article explains how important it was to have talent, in Italy, during the renaissance. The renaissance is known as the rebirth of painting, sculpting, and almost everything we could possibly think off. During the renaissance, most artist had a common enemy known as the court, which was ruled by the most wealthy and powerful families in Italy. The court was in charge of one s position in society. Even though artists would have had a poor quality lifestyle, for them it was a lot better than been a buffone because a buffone was a career that lacked respect. The overall purpose of Warnke s article is the explanation of the financial status that one could expect as a painter, singer and buffone, during the renaissance time. The author explains his thesis thoroughly, but the reader ends with more questions regarding the situation that performers would have. The struggle of having work and been paid not only for the need of money but for the social status as an artist. In this article, the point of view is that as an artist in the category of paint, doing something that was less time consuming would leave an individual with better life opportunities, rather than an artist doing complex frescos and putting their soul into ... This shows that, the equity value was more than the dept. However by the end of 2015, the dept ratio for Aveva was 0.54, which then translates to 54% of dept versus equity, which will be 46%. In this scenario, the borrowing exceeded the value of the company equity thus impacting on the market value of the company negatively. The best case scenario, Aveva investor should consider investing more on the equity and reduce the dept that the company is facing, this can then redeem the value of the company and thus possibility realizing stable financial performance in future, Drax group Plc on the other hand, has experienced drastic compression of its equity value. As of the year 2011 the company was faced with a dept ratio of about 0.54. This failed to reduce, and instead went higher and as at the end of 2015, the company dept ratio was about 1.02. • 8. Pascal s Wager Research Paper Blaise Pascal, a genius, mathematician, physicist, and religious philosopher, says that there are two options in the benefits of life when it comes to theism. The two choices are: to believe in God, or not to believe in God. Pascal calls this dilemma a wager. It is a wager because there are different gains and losses from the two options, depending on whether or not God exists. If God exists, the believers will have eternal life, and the non believers will receive damnation. If God does not exist, the believers will have been left out on the material fulfillments, and the non believers will have reaped those benefits. This paints a very black and white picture, but it would be hard to find someone who would consider their uniform as both an honor and a mark of disgrace. This is a result of some uniforms being a punishment or being forced to wear, while others are earned through very hard work and dedication. Almost everyone has worn a uniform that they were proud of wearing and a uniform that they were less than enthusiastic about; however most people would agree that they distinctly remember a specific uniform they feel strongly about, whether or not it was an honorific or stigmatic one. Throughout my life I have worn many different uniforms as well, but for whatever reason the ones I have disliked always stick out to me the most. My least favorite off them all was my Sears uniform, it held so many negative thoughts in my head, it was hard to picture. The simple thought of putting it on could ruin my entire day. There were many experiences behind this, but here are a few reasons my Sears uniform was a stigmatic one. My Sears uniform represented everything I had hated about the store in the first place. She started showing mild signs of it around the age of 75 and it has slowly progressed over the years. Now, 10 years later her memory is almost completely gone. Alzheimer s disease is an irreversible, abnormal, progressive deterioration of the brain that causes victims to steadily lose the ability to remember, reason, and comprehend (Wardlaw 719). At first it may start with things such as: forgetting important dates or events, repeating oneself multiple times, or needing reminders more often than usual. Eventually it may progress to experiencing challenges in completing simple tasks, difficulty concentrating, and confusion. Geriatric psychiatrist, Robert Santulli states, Alzheimer s disease involves loss of short term memory but also other things like the ability to express yourself with language, the ability to perform certain routine tasks like getting yourself dressed or operating a piece of equipment. It has a lot of emotional symptoms that can go along with it as well such as depression or anxiety, sleep disturbance, agitation, and so forth (Santulli). Atonement follows the detrimental effects of Briony Tallis lie which convicted the innocent Robbie Turner and ultimately destroyed her relationship with Cecilia Tallis, her older sister. Ian McEwan uses the letters as a narrative device to catalyse Briony Tallis dangerous imagination in correlation to the events which follow. There are many letters embedded into the text which are used to reveal the innermost thoughts of the central characters. McEwan uses parody of Austen s style when Briony reads in my dreams I kiss your c t. Ian McEwan employs this word to mislead the reader s belief in Robbie s character. McEwan employs parody of Northanger Abbey to attribute to the effectiveness of letters, and shock the reader. The use of c t would not be expected in an Austen novel which presents conservative beliefs in conventional language. Ian McEwan utilises allusion of Vladimir Nabokov s Lolita to depict the relationship between Paul Marshall and Lola Quincey. The reader is aware of this allusion through the naming of Lola Quincey, similar to the protagonist of Lolita. This allusion foreshadows the rape of Lola, Paul is not convicted when Briony claims that she saw him [Robbie], with her own two eyes. McEwan uses this allusion to portray how Briony s imagination convinces her that Paul Marshall is innocent while Robbie Turner is the criminal. Through allusion to Lolita, McEwan suggests to the reader that the novel will be dark and disturbing, similar to Nabokov s novel and the gothic literature pastiche which McEwan utilises. The Island Of Dr. Moreau Throughout time ethically controversial sciences, from vivisection to stem cell research, have embodied a negative stereotype in the eyes of western societies, and have consequently withdrawn the freedom that allows scientists to make innovative discoveries. In H.G. Wells novel The Island of Doctor Moreau, this perspective is portrayed through Edward Prendick, an upper class English gentleman with a subtle passion for science. After being stranded on a remote pacific island isolated from civilization, Prendick s perspective on Dr. Moreau s unethical and controversial studies begins to transform over time. The idea that isolation from civilization can result in the freedom to explore one s curiosity is portrayed through Prendick s initial unacceptance of Moreau s vivisection, which, as time on the island elapses, reshapes to one of interest. In The Island of Doctor Moreau, as Edward Prendick spends more time away from civilized society, his perspective regarding Dr. Moreau s ethically controversial discipline, vivisection, begins to shift from a sense of repugnance to one of enthusiasm. Through these perspectives, H.G. Wells argues that Prendick s isolation from civilization is the principle force allowing him to freely embrace the unethical studies on the island and explore his natural curiosity for science, whereas the consequences from negative stereotypes surrounding controversial science would discourage this curiosity in a civilized society. Analysis Of The Kansas City Preventive Patrol Experiment The Kansas City Preventative Patrol Experiment was conducted in October 1972 by the Kansas City Police to test the effects of marked police patrol units on the incidence of crime to deter crime and ended in 1973. The experiment lasted over a year and was evaluated by the Police Foundation, established by the Ford Foundation, which also provided funding and technical assistance for the education of police. The Kansas City Preventative Patrol Experiment in policing ranked among the few major social experiments ever to be completed and still used today in American policing. (Kelling, G. L., Pate, T., Dieckman, D., Brown, C. E., 1974) The design of the Kanas City Preventative Patrol Experiment was to test the assumption that marked police units patrolling the streets can prevent individuals from committing crimes. Areas of the city were assigned either no routine patrols the proper level of patrols and substantially increased patrols. The concept of preventive patrol postulated the self evident truth that the mere presence of the police or reasonable potential for their presence would deter criminals from committing offenses in the immediate geographic area of the patrol (Deployment by analysis, 2000). • 21. Impact Of The Gettysburg Address How the Gettysburg Address Changed the World 154 years ago, Abraham Lincoln stepped out onto a muddy field with the intention of giving a speech meant to change America. Despite all the doubts the Northern States had about whether the cost of the Civil War was worth it, Lincoln traveled to Gettysburg, Pennsylvania and dedicated the land. He called upon Americans to continue the fight these soldiers died for, and in doing this, he required them to redeem the liberty and nationalism that our country was founded on. As a result, Lincoln joined the Northern States want for equality and freedom with the African Americans aspirations for liberty. Many writers have the opinion that an author must spend a lot of time on their work. It is the common thought that the longer an author spends, the more impact the work will have on their audience. Lincoln spent days writing his speech and as a result, his speech is now one of the most well known in the world. His eloquent vocabulary and carefully thought out form both contribute to how effectively he could reach his audience at Gettysburg. As Donald Murray says, one of the first things writers need to be aware of in their drafts is their audience. They put themselves in the reader s situation and make sure that they deliver information which a reader wants to know or needs to know in a manner which is easily digested. Lincoln does this very effectively, writing his entire speech in colloquial language so that his audience can ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Having a child hospitalized causes an increase in the levels of stress and anxiety for any caregiver. It has been found that hospitalization causes parents and siblings of the child to feel a sense of loss of control and confusion (Commodari, 2010). Stress can lead to more serious problems in the individual, and the family as a whole. Intensive psychosocial intervention in inpatients and outpatients is found to have a positive impact on child and family functioning, therefore reducing stress levels (Commodari, 2010). Nurses must help these families transition into this new environment by providing interventions, and helping families to identify and utilize resources (Commodari, 2010). Currently, there are no political or legislative implications regarding septic arthritis. There is no current legislative activity surrounding the issue. Patient Safety. Health care professionals, as a whole, must take responsibility for establishing safe methods of care that involve preventing errors and adverse events. These methods should also establish methods of identifying and reporting errors and adverse events when they do occur ( NEW AAP POLICY STATEMENT ON PATIENT SAFETY, 2011). • 26. Narrative Essay About Baseball Lights blaring into my eyes, the crack of the bat, the shouting of the overly devoted parents, the salty aroma arising off of the freshly roasted peanuts, all came together to create the overwhelming presence of a little league baseball game. This was a place where I spent most of my time on week day afternoons, in the spring, watching my brother succeed at America s pastime. He was really quite good at this sport called baseball; he had just been granted the position of starting pitcher for the team. Sometimes things that have occurred in my life, and stuff I have received, that I may not have necessarily deserve, can be taken for granted. However, after what was about to take place my eyes are given a new perspective. My brother s baseball game had just concluded, which was marked by the sound of a buzzer. The final score: 14 4. His team had clearly won, and the parents around were saying Congratulations son! However all my brother needed from me was a good game! Mainly because it was an expectation, from my dad and I that Austin would play well. My dad figured in order to celebrate the win, we would run by Dairy Queen and pick up a little snack size Blizzard. However, we would never make it there... Sitting in the car while my dad was driving us home, we came to a stop at a red light. What this theory suggests is that humans are born with innate knowledge that can be divided into four systems involving objects, people, numbers, and space. In other words, Spelke believes that humans are born with certain knowledge in each of these systems, which then provide a basis for learning from new experiences. • 28. Congruence In Social Work Research Paper Congruence is an essential part of social work practice and being a facilitator of group work. As described by Shalka (2009), congruence is when one s feelings, thinking, and behaviour are in alignment and when one s actions are consistent with their values and beliefs. Furthermore, it is when our actions are informed by our principles. Moreover, acting in congruence is vital in social work because of its nature, which revolves around helping other people live better lives. As prescribed by the BCASW Code of Ethics (2011), social workers are obligated to act as professionals in the best interest of their client, ensuring that they respect the client s intrinsic worth and that they work from a place of integrity and objectivity. Further, I had very naïve views on how the world worked, including in the areas of social justice and feminism. Effects Of Sondheim s Nonconformity On Musical Theatre Sondheim s Nonconformity and Its Effect on Musical Theatre Musical theatre performance, which presents fictional plots and impresses audiences with show stopping dance and song, unites dramatic works across the globe. American musical theatre, specifically, draws inspiration from European straight plays, burlesques, and operas, while dramatizing American topics. Nineteenth century musical comedies use entertaining situations, rather than plot, to frame performances involving song, dance, and humor. For example, George M. Cohan s works, although inspired by European musical theatre, fail to please audiences as its unified music and book neglect the plot. By the twentieth century, however, pioneers such as Oscar Hammerstein II create musical ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In contrast to early American musical comedies, whose songs separate the characters from the action, Sondheim carefully crafts his songs, with every word serving both the actor and the audience. When writing a musical, he thinks as the character, attempting and usually succeeding at portraying his situation. As Arthur Laurents, one of his collaborators, said, Steve...is the only lyricist who almost always writes songs for the characters they are written for (Michener 384). Since he writes the songs for the characters, each word has a specific purpose, but he still puts a twist on established devices of musical theatre. Musical theatre often contains rhyme, but Sondheim s rhymes provide emphasis because all rhymes draw attention to the rhymed word (Sondheim, Finishing the Hat, xxvii). Since the songs words signify a profound amount of meaning, Sondheim makes sure that the lyrics and rhythms work for the character and the actor. Getting Married Today in Company demonstrates this particularity. On Amy s wedding day, she experiences doubt in marrying Paul, expressed through a fast paced frenzy of thoughts and emotions. So that this whirl of emotions does not become too chaotic, Sondheim s word choice allows the actress playing Amy to capitalize on every word, as he calculates the song to alternate vowel and consonant sounds in such a way as to make them easy for the tongue, teeth, and breath to articulate (184). Thus, every word in Getting Married Today has a specific purpose, unlike the lyrics of other musicals without such a careful word choice. While the audience needs to use the lyrics to understand the plot, Sondheim s intelligence and wit leaves the audience marveling at what clever things he does with words (Banfield 113). As we are constantly exposed to mass media and popular culture in our modern society, the insidious nature of consumerism has allowed it to penetrate into every aspect of our lives, dictating our very beliefs, values and wants. Nearly every individual in our society subconsciously conforms to the shallow and superficial mindset that characterises our consumerist culture. In addition, the production of crude oil in America has also become costlier since the places that have been easiest to drill have largely gone dry. This means that oil companies have to go increasingly into offshore oil producing areas such as the Gulf of Mexico, which cost much more to drill in. The transition from the essentially oral culture of the late Middle Ages to the print culture of the Renaissance fundamentally changed human interaction. In Western society, the invention of the printing press and subsequent widespread literacy signaled the shift away from a primarily oral culture to a literate, print culture. Many scholars, including Plato and Harold Innis, have suggested that the advantages of an oral culture exceed those of a print culture. Even further, the past few decades have seen calls to orality, or propositions that we must return to oral culture to balance print culture. As seen through a lens of the history of print culture, the benefits of literacy and a predominantly print culture outweigh the benefits of an oral culture because of the impact print has had on standardized language and national consciousness, the field of science and accuracy, and the quick dissemination of information and dialogue. Through a comparison of advancements during the Print Revolution and current features of modern society, I will argue that there is no need to re embrace orality because elements of oral culture already exist in our modern print culture. The Print Revolution was marked by the invention of the printing press and growing industrial capitalism in Europe. The idea of capitalism enabled publishers to seek mass markets for ... Descartes Meditation 4 Essay By the start of Meditation Four Descartes has established the reliability of his clear and distinct criterion of knowledge, and he has concluded that he exists as an essentially thinking thing and that the idea of an infinite, perfect being entails God s existence. Descartes has also eliminated concern about being systematically deceived, since acting in such a way would be indicative of some deficiency rather than the exercise of some power, and God is perfect. This generates further questions, as humans do regularly judge falsely, even without the meddling of a malicious, deceptive being (99). Descartes begins by distinguishing the real and positive idea of God from the opposite negative idea of nothingness, placing himself in the middle of this spectrum (99). He is finite and imperfect but, as God s creation, his nature contains nothing which itself facilitates mistakes. Since he exists between God and nothingness, however, he also participate[s] in nothingness or non being (99 100). Errors of judgement, then, must stem from nothingness, the absolute absence of all perfection. Mistakes are not things resulting from an error making faculty dependent on God, but instead lackings of a limited, fallible faculty of judgement. This answer, Descartes admits, does not fully address the problem, since a lacking is not a pure negation and implies that something which ought to be present is missing. Could God have failed to grant some perfection that we should possess? These people are wanting to make new homes in these countries but face many overwhelming struggles. The conditions of Syria are horrible. People are becoming sick due to lack of sanitation and kids are ill treated and famished. Most kids have dropped out of school and many children are forced to work to support their families. According to Studebaker, foreign born immigrants contribute almost $19,000 more in tax receipts each decade than they consume in government benefits. This means the refugees pay for their public services. Refugees would contribute lots of money so in return states could build new schools and employ more teachers to teach the influx of new children. The website benjaminstudebaker.com also stated that the Government would make a net profit of $3,000 per immigrant over the next decade for an overall gain of $30 million. So immigrants are a positive investment for our society. Also, immigrants have to go through a 20 month process to be admitted into the U.S. So you can assume that these refugees are going to be safe. Probably the most important argument is that taking refugees in is the right thing to do. According to the Jewish Journal whoever saves a life, it is considered as if he saves an entire world. So America could be the great savior and help Syrian refugees to have a good life and safe future. No Syrian refugee has been arrested on a terrorism charge so it would be safe to say the threat is minimal. Also, The US owes these refugees. Without the US invasion of Iraq in 2003, there would have been no al Qaeda in that part of the world, and no al Qaeda offshoots like Daesh/ ISIL according to AlterNet. The U.S also has accepted almost 20,000 refugees from Iraq last year so it is really foolish to not accept Syrians but to accept Iraqis. AlterNet also concluded that the united states has to step up and face one of the world s great humanitarian crises. Another good reason for America to take in Syrian refugees because the need is crucial. Most Syrians are homeless and others have been forced to flee the country. Europe is ... • 47. Congress Passed The Budget Control Act On August 2, 2011, Congress passed the Budget Control Act (BCA) of 2011 which cut $487 billion from projected defense spending over the next 10 years.1 The act also established a system of sequestration, which would cut an additional $495 billion from the defense budget.2 Altogether, the BCA would cut almost $1 trillion dollars from the Department of Defense (DoD). The passing of the BCA and the subsequent loss of funding mark an end to a 13 year period of robust budget allocations to support the global war on terrorism. From 2001 to 2013 over $1.6 trillion has been allocated to the DoD to support preparations for and execution of operations in various overseas areas.3 Within this $1.6 trillion, 94% of the funding was allocated to support operations in Iraq and Afghanistan.4 This robust amount of funding cultivated a culture within the DoD that there would always be funding available to cover costs at home and abroad. This culture is deeply entrenched within the United States Army due to large budgets provided to the Army over the past 13 years. In today s environment of shrinking budgets, this culture can no longer stand true and must be changed. Establishing a cost conscious culture (CCC) within the Army is critical to our ability to sustain the current Army force structure and make the needed modernization investments to ensure our capability to fight and win our nations wars. Our world continues to remain a violent, uncertain, complex, and ambiguous environment. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Therefore, it has been decided that rather than creating a better value image for Williams and Glyn s Bank, it is better to communicate to customers who are looking for a trustworthy bank. 1 Demographics Age Age of target audience has been considered carefully because if media advertisement is to be most effective, it must target age ranges depending on where and when those advertisements will be seen. There are 2 types of banking for individual customers: Personal banking and Private banking. Personal banking has products such as the current account and this will attract a larger age range, for example students as well as people from the ages of 23 55.
