1. There are two males and two females involved
1. Does the front page grab your attention, if yes why?
Both males and females said yes, the reason they gave was that they all like the different features
and elements on the front page. One male said that the colour scheme looked ‘brilliant’ and the rest
agreed on this. One female liked the use of ‘space’ and ‘text style’; she said that it had a unique feel
to it.
2. Do you feel the festive theme?
All said yes, they agreed on that all the text backs it up, not forgetting the Christmas tree which gives
it even more of a festive theme. One female said that the image brings and shows ‘togetherness’
which relates to being festive and coming together, everyone agreed on this point too.
3. Does the layout of the content page clearly display the format of the magazine?
All said yes, one male said that every element on the page is precise and clear, he also went onto say
that there is continuity with colour which he said was a good thing, everyone agreed on this point.
One female picked out the point that maybe more visuals should have been included to make the
page even better and make it look professional, others agreed with this criticism.
4. Do the single pages describe a feeling of continuity?
They all said that the majority of the pages do have a feeling of continuity. One male said that the
‘sixth page’ title on different pages showed continuity, he then went onto say that the way colour is
used also creates some continuity, the group agreed with these points.
5. Can you see a visual link between the variety of styles in regards to the single pages?
All said yes there is a link. One female said that the reason for this was that the page numbers were
‘familiar’ and ‘similar’. The entire group agreed with this point.
6. Do you prefer our hard news or our feature articles?
The entire group said they prefer the feature articles. One female said that the reason for this choice
was the a student magazine needs to be ‘fun’ and full of excitement, because the magazine might be
published when ‘exams’ are going on, she then went onto say; you don’t want to see people–
struggling to get out of a fire, you want something ‘fun’ and something you do not need to think
about and the feature articles are perfect. All group members agreed.
7. Do we meet the needs of local consumers via local news stories?
All members said yes, one male said that features and elements have a link to something local which
is a good thing; in my opinion I think that you do meet the brief and criteria because I think you have
a positive approach towards the work. All members agreed with this point.
8. Do the entertainment pages cater to your age group?
2. The entire group said yes it does, one female said that the reason for this choice was that it has
reviews which people her age like for e.g. music review; most teenagers and students like music and
some will read about it. All members agreed with this point.
9. Do you feel there is a good deal of clarity and colour used within the images throughout
the magazine?
The entire group said yes, one male said that the colour makes you want to carry on and read more,
he also went onto say that it is ‘eye-catchy’ and ‘attractive’ because of the use of bright colours
within the background and images. The female within the group said that the magazine ‘flowed’
because of this and images had clear ‘clarity’ between the text and the visuals. All other members
agreed with these points.
10. Overall, out of 10, how would you rate the magazine and justify your answer?
The entire group agreed that it was a 8/10, the reason for this rating from one male was that he
noticed a ‘theme’ throughout the magazine which was a ‘brilliant’ convention. The entire group
again agreed with this point.
