1. My main source of information about my
audience was my focus group. By undertaking
my focus group I found out several different
facts about my target audience that helped me
in the making of my product.
Who would be the audience for my media
product?
2. Questions 1&2
My first question was ‘do you read magazines?’ the responses
were all the same (yes) this allowed me to be able to develop a
better understanding of how many people actually read
magazines. My second question was ‘what’s your favourite music
genre?’ the responses were varied, however the main genre said
was grime, so I decided to go with grime as the genre for my
music magazine.
3. Questions 3&4
My third question was ‘what would you expect from a £3.99
magazine. The responses were varied again; however there was
an underlining theme that they all expected a high quality
product. From this response I was able to work out what type of
quality I could make my own magazine. My fourth question was
‘if any improvements could be made to magazines you currently
read what that would be?’ All of the responses claimed they
wanted better quality and less advertisements, as well as more
exclusive interviews. From this feedback I will adapt my
magazine so that I do not include and include the things that the
audience has asked for.
4. Questions 5&6
My fifth question was ‘do you have and any specific hobbies?’ All
of the audience said they had hobbies, although none of them
were similar. Social media was a common ground between all of
them; therefore I’ll make sure that I incorporate some sort of
social media in my product. My sixth question was ‘what do you
expect from a magazine?’ All of the responses demanded good,
interesting stories. I will make sure incorporate good, interesting
stories into my magazine.
5. Questions 7&8
My seventh question was ‘do images on the front of magazines
influence your decision on whether to buy it or not?’ All of their
responses said yes. This has shown me how important a good
front cover will be for my magazine. My eighth question was ‘do
you subscribe to any magazines?’ Every one of them said no they
do not subscribe to any magazines. This will mean that I’ll have
to create an interesting product so that it captures the attention
of my audience.
6. Questions 9&10
My ninth question was ‘what would divert you away from any
magazine?’ Their responses were all similar as they all wanted a
front cover that wasn’t too busy and too bright and colourful
which didn’t fit the genre; therefore I will make sure that my
front cover will look neat and tidy whilst also looking
professional. My tenth and final question of my focus group was
‘what do you wish they did more of?’ Every one of them said
they’d enjoy magazines more if they had more posters and
competitions inside that would make them more interesting and
entertaining.
