3. Pregnancy Pregnancy is the period of time that it takes for a baby to develop. It normally takes 40 weeks. During this time the embryo develops into a fetus. All the organs are developing and are beginning to function.
4. Uterus The uterus is the area where the baby grows and develops. During pregnancy the uterus experiences many changes. It will increase in size and ascend into the abdomen.
5. Dilation Stage The dilation stage is the first stage of the delivery process. The uterus contracts which cause changes to the cervix. The cervix will soften and dilate, leading into the second stage of delivery.
6. Expulsion Stage Also called the “pushing stage”. This stage begins when mother is completely dilated and is pushing.
7. Placental Stage After the birth of the baby it is necessary to deliver the placenta, the source of nutrition for the baby. The uterus will contract a little more to encourage the separation of the placenta. The placenta must be completely removed for the health of the mother.
