TO CONFIRM A PREGNANCY … Blood Test  Done at Doctor’s office  Detects sooner- 7 to 12 days after conception  More expensive  100% accurate  Two types  Quantitative: gives amount of hCG levels, can guess how far along you are  Qualitative: gives simple yes or no Urine Test (store bought)  A test that you most likely take at home  Place stick in mid-urine stream  Looking for a change on indicator screen  Most doctors recommend taking on first day of last period (2 weeks after conception)  97% accurate  If test is negative, but you still have pregnancy symptoms wait a week then retake

PRENATAL TESTS Ultrasound  high frequency sound waves bounce off  woman’s internal structures  this gives “map” of fetus  actual picture is called a sonogram  chorionic villi sampling  an instrument inserted through cervix, takes a  small sample of the tissue from the amino -  chorionic membrane  8th-10th week of pregnancy  amniocentesis  amniotic fluid is drawn out through the stomach  14th-16th week of pregnancy
