2. How does your product use or challenge
conventions and how does it represent social
groups and issues?
• The genre that I chose for my print genre is an Architecture magazine. My architecture magazine is different from many
famous magazines since most of the magazines are based on modern architecture and a very few feature the different
types of architecture around the world. The reason why I chose Mughal architecture as my genre was to challenge the
conventions since it enhances the culture of my country and a very few magazines have featured them. I wanted to create
something out of the blue, something people had never seen before. Thus I chose to feature one of the most famous
mosque of Pakistan which is extremely rich in culture to grab the attention of the audiences.
• My architecture magazine is different from the usual and after going through many magazines, I chose my genre since I
wanted to challenge the conventions and not follow the set pattern that is made for architecture magazines that is
featuring new famous buildings and home of celebrates.
• My magazines name is Aurum and the reason why I chose this name was because of the meaning which is gold Since my
magazine is featuring the Mughal architecture of Pakistan and the Mughal era was known as the golden era in the history
of the subcontinent so I thought that it will be suitable for my magazine. The colour gold is also vastly used in the intricate
details.
• The colour pallet that I have chosen for my cover page is very neutral. Mostly shades of brow and white has been used to
make it look more professional and eye-catching.
• The image on my cover page is a corridor in a mosque. The reason why I choose this image for my cover page is because it
enhance the culture and mughal architecture as well as a tourist attraction. However, this is not the soul reason why I
chose this image. One of the reasons are that this image has a nice balance of light and enhances my colour pallet and the
image has been taken in symmetry which also gives it a very professional look and is always a plus point because it grabs
the attention of the audience immediately. The background is kept simple and blured to enhance the details in the pillars
and show the symmetry of the image.
3. The codes and conventions that I followed while choosing the font for my cover lines was according to the genre. Mostly all architecture
magazines have simple fonts so that the cover page looks more simple and to match –up the symmetry of the image.
4. How does your product engage with the
audiences and how would it be distributed as a
real media text?
• The audience that I have targeted is audience whore 18-50 years old. I have targeted people who have genuine interest in
architecture I have targeted people of both genders. My magazine will also be a good guide for tourists because it will be
featuring famous mughal architecture building.
• My magazine engages a lot with my target audience since it is according to the codes and conventions of an architecture
magazine. It has the right essence that every architecture magazine should have simple yet eye catching. The colour pallet
is shades of brown and white which gives a balance look to the magazine. The font of the coverlines and masthead is allso
kept simple to make it look more elegant.
• The colour scheme of the magazine depicts the genre of the magazine because of the elegant brown and off white hues of
colours used in the picture. The colour scheme clearly shows that this magazine is made for professionals and for mature
age people.
• The name aurum already speaks for itself. The minute you read it instantly it comes to your mind that its going to be
related to something old and something extremely precious. The language used in the coverlines is simple yet mysterious
since the reader cannot figure out what the coverline actually means until they don’t read the article which means that
more people will get fasinated and they might want to read the magazine in curiosity.
• In order to maximize the amount of audiences. It will be ensured that the magazine is easily available in all bookstores as
well as available for weekly or monthly subscription and online.
5. How did your production skills develop
throughout this project
While producing my magazine for my media portfolio. I got to know about many different techniques and skills.
I got to know about many different software like the adobe Photoshop. I didn’t know how to use adobe
photoshop at all until the preliminary task which was given to us as an assignment in As. I feel that my final
ccover page is more professional and elegent then my preliminary task since I didn’t know the tools and the
different effects gradually after so much of effort and practice I got the hang of it . The extensive and lengthy
research on my genre gave me a lot of information that I did not know about mughal architecture and
architecture itself. My preliminary task and final task were two complete diverse topic. The difference between
the two task can be seen clearly which also shows that I have learned a lot from these tasks.
6. How did you integrate technologies, software
, hardware and online?
• The technology software that I used to create my magazine was
adobe photoshop since I think that it is the most professional
software to create a perfect magazine coverpage. The online
technology that I used in this process was google for research and
weebly which is my blog website. Other than that a lot of online
applications were used to download different fonts and magazine
websites along with many softwares to create slideshows.
• The hardware that was used to make my magazine was a DSLR
camera which was used to take pictures for my coverpage. Desktop
computer was used to edit my coverpage and to upload my work.
