The document proposes a hip hop magazine called "Revelation" targeting 16-19 year olds interested in exclusive artist information. It provides initial ideas for designing the cover, contents page, and double page spread with inspiration from other magazines, focusing on prominent images, simple colors, and column formatting for easy reading. Market research informed the inclusion of an interview and competition in the magazine.
2. Title of magazine
• I have chosen Revelation. I chose this as it is
short and simple which will make it a
memorable name for a magazine. It also
means to reveal something which is what the
magazine would be doing as it will be
revealing exclusive information and gossip
about popular hip hop artists.
3. Choice of Genre
• I have chosen to do the hip hop genre for my
magazine as I already have some knowledge
of the artists and music because I already
listen to these songs. I personally am
interested in hip hop music so can relate to
what a target audience may want and it will
make it easier to achieve the desired
outcome.
4. Target Audience
• My target audience will be both boys and girls
that are aged from 16 to 19 that are interested
in the same things. This is because I can relate
to them as I am a the same age so I will have
an idea of what the readers would want. I also
think these people will be interested in the
same things as me so it will make the content
better for them.
5. Initial Ideas for Front Page
• For my front cover, I want to have just one main
image as it will keep it fairly simple so the target
audience will focus on the model in the image. Also
keeping the colours simple (black, white and red)
means the reader is more likely to pay attention to
the text and information on the front. When
carrying out my market research out, I found that
most people like the idea of more vibrant colours
but an equal balance of the both in order for the
magazine to not be too overwhelming.
6. Inspiration for front cover
• My main inspiration for my
front cover is this VIBE cover
with Beyonce. I like the pose
and set up as it is very
attractive and will appeal to
the audience as males will
want to be with her whereas
women would inspire to be
her.
• I also like the colours used on
this cover so I think I will
make this the colour scheme
for my magazine and I will
keep it consistent so it looks
professional.
7. Initial Ideas about Contents Page
• I plan to keep the colours the same as the front cover as it
will be continuous and look more professional.
• There will be a few anchored/captioned images. These
images will relate to what is inside the magazine, especially
the double page spread.
• I will sort the page numbers into subheadings and
categorise them. This will make the text easier to
understand as it will be more organised.
• Looking at my market research, I have decided to make
sure the features in my magazine would include an
interview and a competition as this is what most of my
participants in my research said that they would like to see.
8. Inspiration for contents page
• I like this magazine cover as the
main focus is on the one
dominant image.
• I like how the text is placed
around the image as well which
stops it from distracting too much
away from the main image.
• I also like how the colours are
kept fairly simple and fit in well
with the image with the more
monochromatic colours.
• I think I will use these features on
my contents page but maybe use
another brighter colour to make it
more interesting as it was
suggested from my research.
9. Initial Ideas for Double Page Spread
• My article will be an interview with an upcoming
hip hop artist. I have chosen to do an interview as it
will be more detailed and informative and my
target audience said that this is what they would
like to see.
• There will be one dominant image of the artists as
it will relate to the article and further explain it.
• It will also be set into columns which makes it
easier for the audience to read. It will also seem
like there is less to read so the article won’t be too
overwhelming.
10. Inspiration for Double Page Spread
• I like the colour scheme of
this double page spread as it
will be suitable for the
colours I would like to use on
the rest of my magazine.
• I also like the fact that half of
the article is taken up by a
large image and an
interesting title is also
featured.
• I think instead of this style of
article I would prefer having
an interview for the text on
the page, but I would like to
separate it into columns like
this one as it makes it easier
to read.
11. Initial Ideas about photographs
• All the pictures will relate to articles within the
magazine, especially the main double paged
spread.
• The pictures on the cover will include the
upcoming star as this is the main feature of the
magazine.
• The picture on my contents page will feature
another artist that will attract the audience as
well as give more information as to who is
featured within the magazine.
