6. What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?
1. When I was initially told about the task of
creating my very own music magazine, I was
instantly intrigued and couldn’t wait to being
production. However having not studied
media in my past, I realised that the task was
not going to be a walk in park. I was learning
from scratch and it was time to embark on
something new, with elements which required
programs that went beyond my comfort zone.
2. The main program that I used to create my music
magazine was Photoshop, and as a student that was
new to media, I had never used the program before.
When looking back at the preliminary task, I think that
it is safe to say that since then, I have made sufficient
progress. In order to become more familiar with
Photoshop, I studied a booklet provided in class which
explained the basics of the program as well as tutorial
videos on YouTube. Bit by bit, the resources became
more and more helpful, allowing me to create the
magazine which I have formed today. I now feel more
confident with photo shop and the way that it works. I
have even begun to use the program for fun, to edit
photos outside of the classroom.
3. Another program that was used for the
creation of my magazine was IPhoto. The
photos that I took had to be imported into the
Macs and put into IPhoto. However this
element of the process took little time, due to
my familiarity with the way that Apple
products such as the Mac work.
4. I'm no photography student, however another
technology that I had to use in the creation of
Origin was a still camera. I regularly take
photos on my phone, and this wasn’t so much
a new experience. All I needed was a bit of
assistance as to which buttons I pressed to
take the photos, but other than that I was fine.
This taught me how to properly function a still
camera.
5. I know that when one takes a photo in the
dark, they like to use the flash in order to get a
better picture on camera however, this task
taught me the true meaning of lighting and
the effects that it can have on a photo. With
the help of photography students I was kindly
given the lowdown on the effects of lighting,
and this allowed me to form a judgement as to
where my photo-shoot was going to take
place and how much extra lighting was going
to be required.
6. A final piece of technology which was used in
the construction of my magazine was the Mac.
As stated above, I'm an Apple person and I am
very familiar with the ways that their products
work, allowing my work to flow naturally. I
believed I knew everything that there was to
know about a Mac, however this task did allow
me to learn things such as various shortcuts.
