The Roman Empire A Historical Colossus.pdfkaushalkr1407
The Roman Empire, a vast and enduring power, stands as one of history's most remarkable civilizations, leaving an indelible imprint on the world. It emerged from the Roman Republic, transitioning into an imperial powerhouse under the leadership of Augustus Caesar in 27 BCE. This transformation marked the beginning of an era defined by unprecedented territorial expansion, architectural marvels, and profound cultural influence.
The empire's roots lie in the city of Rome, founded, according to legend, by Romulus in 753 BCE. Over centuries, Rome evolved from a small settlement to a formidable republic, characterized by a complex political system with elected officials and checks on power. However, internal strife, class conflicts, and military ambitions paved the way for the end of the Republic. Julius Caesar’s dictatorship and subsequent assassination in 44 BCE created a power vacuum, leading to a civil war. Octavian, later Augustus, emerged victorious, heralding the Roman Empire’s birth.
Under Augustus, the empire experienced the Pax Romana, a 200-year period of relative peace and stability. Augustus reformed the military, established efficient administrative systems, and initiated grand construction projects. The empire's borders expanded, encompassing territories from Britain to Egypt and from Spain to the Euphrates. Roman legions, renowned for their discipline and engineering prowess, secured and maintained these vast territories, building roads, fortifications, and cities that facilitated control and integration.
The Roman Empire’s society was hierarchical, with a rigid class system. At the top were the patricians, wealthy elites who held significant political power. Below them were the plebeians, free citizens with limited political influence, and the vast numbers of slaves who formed the backbone of the economy. The family unit was central, governed by the paterfamilias, the male head who held absolute authority.
Culturally, the Romans were eclectic, absorbing and adapting elements from the civilizations they encountered, particularly the Greeks. Roman art, literature, and philosophy reflected this synthesis, creating a rich cultural tapestry. Latin, the Roman language, became the lingua franca of the Western world, influencing numerous modern languages.
Roman architecture and engineering achievements were monumental. They perfected the arch, vault, and dome, constructing enduring structures like the Colosseum, Pantheon, and aqueducts. These engineering marvels not only showcased Roman ingenuity but also served practical purposes, from public entertainment to water supply.

Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.

Question 4- How did you use media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages
1.
2. I used a wide range of
technologies in my research.
3. Research
When I began to research in to what song I wanted to I had
a rough idea that I wanted the genre to be Pop or Rap. I
used ‘Youtube’ to search into artists that I liked. I used
‘Google to look at posters and digipaks that fitted in with my
genre.
I used Facebook to look in to my chosen target audience
and how my piece would fit around them. I showed this by
regularly keeping ‘Blogger’ posts.
I would also use ‘Youtube’ to look at different camera
angles.
4. OCR-Research and
Planning
I would use the OCR website to see what I needed in
my work to be able to achieve a successful music
video, I looked at the examples they had in place and
I was able to asses the features as they had been
given a score.
5. Blogger- Research and
Planning
I used the website Blogger to show what I was
regularly doing and showing the new skills I was
learning a long the way. Blogger really helps in terms
of setting video and photo shoots. It allows you to
share your work from different websites within the
software as well. Blogger is easily accessed as well
as it is a mobile app, which helped if I was outside of
Media I would be able to write down my ideas.
6. Construction of the piece
During the construction of my music video and my ancillary tasks I
used an apple mac. I could save all of my work on to the desktop and
also to a folder. I used apple mac software such as Photoshop and
iMovie. Whilst recording my footage I used a Canon digital camera I
also used a tripod whilst I was filming as I needed my shots to be still.
Once I obtained footage I was then able to import the video and
begin editing. I had never used iMovie before so it took a while for me
to get used to the software and as I had used a Green Screen it
made it a lot more complex as I had to download different moving
background shots and then add the correct clip on top. I often
changed the timing of the choreography I would speed certain parts
up and slow others down. I also liked the use reverse a lot as
sometimes if choreography didn’t fit in to a certain place properly I
would be able to reverse the clip and it would work better.
7. iMovie
I really enjoyed using the iMovie software. I watched
a few Youtube tutorials to get myself familiar with the
software. I used the Green screen function, a long
with time change and with the reverse. I found the
software extremely simplistic once I learnt the basics.
I also liked how if I didn’t have something to go
somewhere yet I could add a template in and
continue with the video until I found something to go
there.
8. Photoshop
I had used Photoshop last year but I wasn’t very
good and using the software and my work last year
wasn’t as good as this years. I once again used
Youtube for tutorials on how to do things properly by
doing this I believe it enabled me to have a piece that
looks highly professional.
9. Photoshop work comparison
The work on the left is my
front cover for my music
magazine I did last year.
the piece on the right is my
magazine advertisement for
my digipak. As you can see
this year I have utilized the
space, the text is more
clearer, so watching the
tutorials online really did
help my piece look highly
professional.
10. Social Media
I used Facebook to get feedback from my target
audience. I mainly received positive feedback but the
negative feedback I got was mainly about how easy
it was to see my text, which allowed me to go back in
to Photoshop and add a drop shadow.
11. Effectiveness of my piece.
There was many good comments on my work and
people really liked how professional the images
looked and how the same house style was used.
Overall I would say my video and work did fit my
genre extremely well as the majority of my audience
feedback that was positive came from my target
audience.
