This document contains descriptions of various images the author intends to use in a pop music magazine. The front cover image features a smiling woman in a red top giving direct address to represent the upbeat and fun nature of pop music. An image of an editor will be cropped small for the contents page. Additional images include a woman playing guitar on the contents page to represent the genre, a boyband to appeal to the target audience, and a three-shot of smiling teenage girls to slightly subvert stereotypes while appealing to a wide age range. Continuity is created by using the same model from the cover on a double page spread.
2. MAIN COVER
This image is going to be my front cover image, it is
bright and has a white background. This represents the
genre of pop as she is wearing a red/pink top and a
sparkly necklace, she is giving the audience direct
address which is important for a cover image. The
background is white as it will be removed and changed
to a different colour. I think this image is stereotypical
to a pop magazine but slightly diverts to an older
audience as it is not bright pink or brightly coloured,
which would appeal to a younger audience. She is
smiling which represents the upbeat type of music and
fun atmosphere of the magazine.
3. CONTENTS
This image will be on my contents page and will be
next to the editors article, is will be small and
cropped. It is stereotypical of pop magazines to have
this editors note as it makes it more personal for the
audience to read. This is coloured and the outfit is
casual as it is not meant to represent a celebrity or
anyone famous, only the editor. This will be edited
down to a circle and doesn’t necessarily represent the
genre as this image is not part of the music side of
the magazine.
4. COVER
This image was going to be on my cover page, but
didn’t represent the magazine in the way I wanted it to,
the black of the top didn’t really reflect my genre as
being fun and upbeat, to represent the way that pop is.
Furthermore, the model is wearing glasses which
wouldn’t be stereotypical of a music magazine, more of
a college magazine for example. Also the garden
environment is different for a normal pop music
magazine and would be deliberately subverting the
stereotype.
5. NOT USED
This image was going to be on my contents
page, but does not fit into the genre, she is
wearing the right clothing which is good but
the pose is not right. With the other images I
have tried to get inspiration from other
celebrities but here it doesn’t fit into the
glamorous pop magazine genre, as it is more
casual which could be right for another page in
the magazine, not the cover, contents or
double page spread and because of this I will
not be using this image.
6. CONTENTS
This image will be on my contents page and
features a girl playing a guitar, this is showing the
genre and she is wearing white to show purity and
innocence. The white colour of her top represents
the bright nature of the magazine. The guitar links
with the theme of pop and helps the audience to
know more about the genre. This is stereotypical
of the genre. The mise-en-scene will be edited to a
pattern or lighter colour to show the nature of the
magazine.
7. CONTENTS/FRONT COVER
This one will be on my cover page as a smaller
image, this is brightly coloured and fun which
represents not only the genre and style of the
music, but the target audience. This is fun and
anchoring the headline, this may be alongside
other images on the cover or on the contents
page.
8. DOUBLE PG
This image is going to be used for my double page
spread. It is the same model as my cover page to
create continuity to the magazine, this is stereotypical
of most magazines to do this and therefore I will be
following the same convention. The model is wearing
the same clothing as the cover page and this is also to
make it seem more familiar. The colour of the top is
bright yet understated and the necklace gives a
glamorous, celebrity like style to the magazine. She is
also doing a different pose to the cover page as it
reflects different sides to the personality, this is more
fun as it gets more in detail about her personal life.
9. COVER
This image will be on my front cover/contents
page and this will be a smaller image on a cover
of my magazine. This links with my genre
because teen girls like boybands and they are
something that appears on most pop music
magazines. All the boybands on pop magazines
are dressed casually, usually and so I have tried
to portray this in this image. The image is rather
yellow and this can be corrected during the
construction of the magazine.
10. 3 SHOT
This image is a three shot and also a
medium close up, this image will be split into
3 different sections and used that way, it
represents the target audience as there are
3 teenage females. The image will also be
lightened so it appears brighter as no lights
were used in this shot. This shot also slightly
subverts the stereotype of the genre as they
are not wearing brightly coloured clothing but
is not wearing black, which would be a
deliberate use of subverting the stereotype
which is not what I am trying to do, not
wearing bright clothing also makes it appeal
to wider audience age and also these
images will be smaller so they have less
importance.
