2. Typography & Colours.
The logo in the top corner is prominently red, this symbolises the image that ‘Q’ is upholding, a white Q in a red background is the signature logo and colour
scheme, other magazines such as rock sound for example have been known to change there colour of the logo to tie in with the desired theme of that issue, q
doesn’t do that making there red and white logo recognisable. The use of the colour red is a bright colour making it eye catching for the audience. The
additional text around the magazine is white, which also ties in with the colours of Q. the accent colour uses is blue, this isn’t used very prominently. This blue
adds a discrete pop of colour to a visually bland magazine.
Layout.
The layout of this magazine is very simple, which makes it easily accessible to a variety of audiences. The simple layout makes information easily distinguishable. The
layout of the words seem very structured which could connote the idea of the magazine in general being mature instead of childish.
Secondary images.
There is no secondary images on this magazine which could suggest that the main focus of this magazine is Florence
Headline.
The headline of this magazine is the biggest text of the whole cover, which ties in the idea that Florence, is the biggest fature of this magazine, also suggesting the reason
why she is the main image. This also draws the readers attention to her and her name as she is the main selling point of the magazine
Front Page analysis
The Main Image
The main image of this magazine is a close up of Florence Welch. Her face portrays a very false overly shocked look. Due to the amount of makeup she is wearing the over image looks really fake, her skin has been
airbrushed to the extreme where her nose is barely even visible. Moving on the role that makeup plays in this imagine, the vibrant blue that surrounds her eyes makes them pop, showing that ‘Q’ wants its readers to be
drawn to her eyes. Also this blue in contrast to her porcelain skin tone is a big statement. Secondly the effect of her skin being this pale suggests purity which corresponds with the image f q and it isn’t considered a edgy
magazine. Her face is the most prominent thing in this picture as the whole background is covered by her ginger hair, making her face stand out in the centre of the page. The brightness of her hair adds a sense of fiery
excitement too the image.
Sell lines.
The use of sell lines, for example “Skrillex- Dance genius of noisy git?”. Skrillex is a famous artist which is a selling point as this is a music magazine and any of
his fans would be enticed too buy the magazine, therefore skrillex is a selling point of the magazine. Additionally, the use off rhetorical question adds a sense of
mystery to the magazine as the audience is more likely to be curious and entice them to read on. Additionally the use of ellipsis and brackets give it a less
formal persona, this could lead too readers feeling relaxed when reading which is what the magazines goal would be as typically people read magazines in a
relaxed environment.
3. Mise-en-scene
The body language of the main person in the image is rather serious. The man has tattoos and a very shadowy face which creates a air of mystery. The fact he has placed
his hand on his chest draws attention to his tattoos and this connotes that he is a rebellious figure
Main sell line
The main sell line is ‘bring me the horizon’, this draws in the attention of the target audience and possible others who may be fans of the band. The genre of music to this band fits in well to the style and genre of the
magazine. this would catch the eye of the buyer very easily. The font is in a dark colour which can come across quite masculine which can suggest this is for a male audience.
Masthead
In this magazine front cover I can see a masthead saying “Rock Sound”. This is written in bold characters which makes it stand out and recognisable. The font is quiet bold and simple yet edgy. The title isn't the same font
in every issue so the fact its bold makes it easier to locate.
Full bleed
The full bleed image is of a member of a well known band, the picture covers the whole page. This could stand out for people who are interested in his band so making it
a full bleed could be a selling point. The lighting of the picture is very dark, so suggests that the article could be full of secrets. The mysterious element to the picture
could drive the viewer to read more about this person and article.
Secondary images
The secondary images for this front cover includes pictures of ‘art cards’ this gives you a insight into the magazine’s content and what you can expect. It also provides
you with the knowledge of what extras can be expected in the magazine other than the normal weekly things. This could also be a selling point for the magazine and by
putting it on the front cover could be advertising.
Layout.
The layout of the magazine front cover is structures yet fun, this is important for a music magazine because having anything too formal would not fit the magazine as
well as this. It it a very organised magazine yet with the different in font used makes it look very structured yet edgy.
Typography.
The text is very bold and all in the same font bar the “Rock sound”. There are colours for text used, white, yellow, blue and a darker blue. The white Is used for the text that related to the picture, this is a good choice of
colour because it stands out against the dark colours so labels the pictures well, and the darker blue and light blue alternate together as names of bands that are featured., yellow is used as a highlighter to attract the
attention, they may have done the text in yellow because yellow is a bright colour and having pieces of text in yellow stands out. For example they have put “plus” in yellow because they want the reader to know what they
are getting in this issue that may not be included monthly.
Plugs.
The plugs on his front cover are the art cards, this provides you with the extras the magazine carries. This is a selling point as they may not include art cards in every issue.

4. Front Page analysis
The Main image
The main image is a mid shot of a Green day member. As he is the lead guitarist and singer, for green day fans his image is very desirable. Many magazines have a white background, however this photo looks like its taken
from a concert as we can see a small dimmer of light from behind him which could represent a stage light. The model isn’t looking directly into the camera which is uncommon for magazine main image as magazines will
often use direct address for a magazine front page. This is to make contact with the readers and make them feel connected. However, because this main image doesn’t do this, the reader is drawn too the idea that he is
performing, making a direct link too his persona. This could also be helpful for readers that’s perhaps aren't fans of green day so they can recognise exactly who is instantly.
The Masthead.
The mast head is 'Kerrang’. The heading has a shattered glass effect which symbolises the whole image of the magazine. The shattered glass shows how the title
isn’t perfect which resembles how the magazine has a edgy/rock vibe. However the mast head isn't very prominent on this page as it is being covered by several
things on this page, this could suggest how ‘kerrang’ is much a well known magazine brand that they can afford too slightly cover their title with one of the band
members.
The Sell Lines.
The sell lines have no structure, which connotes that the magazine isn’t structured like some magazines. This could symbolise that this magazine is edgy, whilst
also attracting attention to thigs that are included within the magazine. All of the text. has been presented in a cold font which could suggest importance and
could also been used to attract attention of the target audience. The text and text boxes have changed the colour in order to match the colour scheme of this
particular issue , which also creates a present effect when looking at it. The banner at the top of the page alerts the reader that there is a pull out inside of the
magazine, it is place above the title and it is small enough too give space too the more important headings and titles.
The barcode and date.
Like most music magazines this issue of kerrang includes a barcode and date. This is a convention of all music magazines. This is helpful for the reader to determine what issue this is and what price they will be paying for it.
Secondary images.
This magazine has secondary images which advertise another rock band, slipknot. It is a good selling point as it is on a alternative side of rock that green day it
attracts all fans of rock instead of just the fans of the softer side. Also the use of ‘memory lane’ can attract not only young fants of slipknot but perhaps older
fans as well.
