2. Rock
This image from a Rock magazine uses a wide shot
to capture the Rock band. Much like many images
from Rock magazines they aren’t really in a
setting, but are placed on a plain background. I
believe this is done so that band stand out more
along with their story. In terms of costume they
look to be in their simple, everyday clothes. They
mainly consist of dark colours like black and grey
with the occasional splash of colour such as the
red t-shirt. I believe they are wearing this as things
like black jeans and leather jackets are often
associated with Rock, plus it represents the band
as who they are. They all have quite a natural facial
expression which once again can show the band
for who they are, also if they were smiling they
may not fit in with the Rock genre as well as they
do here.
3. Pop
In this image from a pop magazine they have also
used a wide shot to capture the artist. As well as
this they also don’t have a setting, but instead just
a plain white background. I believe that this is
done to keep the attention on the artist,
emphasising her presence on the page. Her
clothing is quite bright overall with the white in
her trousers and he blue top. As well as this her
body language and facial expression could present
he as almost cheeky as well as fun and friendly. I
believe that these factors were done to help
attract a younger audience as young girls may
look up to her.The presentation of the image is
similar to that of the Rock magazine, however the
artist themselves are presented in very different
ways which I believe is done so that they fit in with
their music genre.
4. Indie/Alternative
The main image from this music magazine is a close up
shot of the artist. Close up shots are quite uncommon
for the main image of music magazines, however this is
a indie magazine and as they tend to be quite different
this is normal. Due to it being such a close up shot we
cannot tell the setting, however there is some light
coming in over the image which I believe is done to
brighten the image up a little as overall it is very dark
other than the splash of red from her hair. The facial
expression is quite unusual, once again fitting with the
genre, and almost looks as if she is in the middle of
singing or listening to a song. Overall this is a very
different main image to that of the Rock magazine.
Although this style fits with its own genre I do not
believe it would work with my magazine and therefore I
will not be considering this example when making my
double page spread.
