2. Brief
• students to produce the front page,
contents page and double page spread of
a new music magazine. (Photoshop will
be used for image manipulation and
indesign will be used for page layout and
design features on contents page and
article). All images and text used must
be original, produced by the candidate,
minimum of four images per candidate.
3. Mood board
• The images on the covers of these magazines are all medium close ups. The fans of these artists would
be attracted by the large ‘medium close up’ of their faces. The significance of the black and white images
on the first two magazines, makes it look classic, formal and serious, which suits the tone of the
magazine because they have both died. This also tells you the style of the artists music, unique and
edgy voices/songs. They both include yellow writing because it’s the only time you can really use a soft
yellow without it getting lost in the background. The brighter magazine is more current, trying to
interest people walking by from the brightened hair and use of blue.
4. Contents
• All the contents pages featured here all use the colour red, they do this because it’s the
most vibrant but readable colour you can find, this will attract peoples eye when the scan
through and they will notice words and titles they like the sound of. The magazine logo’s
are all big and bold, they use consistent colours and more pictures to show you what is
going to be included in the magazine.
5. Double page spread
• All the double page spreads are very bold, they all
use a image of the artist across both of the two pages,
this makes it very dramatic. The first one has a
whole page of Lily Alen, in a red checked shirt, and
the title is in the style of magazine/newspaper cut
outs, this is very unique to the reader so it will be
remembered. The second one is a black and white
background which makes the picture effective and
vintage style. The orange writing is bold over the top
of the dull coloured image, by having the two artists
either side it makes the article different to any other.
Lastly the red hair and the red stripes produces a
vibrant and femine theme. The USA title is in a
massive font this attracts the eye away and makes it
more interesting.
