2. NME

•
•
•
In NME’s contents page has the title of the magazine which reminds the audience of what the magazine is
called. Also as it says ‘this week’ in a similar style and size to the title which contrasts with the background
so that the words stand out.
The first column of every issue has a band index which contains a variety of different artists and bands
which means there is something for everyone meaning it widens the target audience.
The main central image is always a picture of something which will be within the magazine later on. This is
usually taken at a medium close up. Underneath there is usually a piece of text about this image but the
first few words or letters are a completely different size(bigger) and font meaning the reader’s attention
will automatically be drawn to there.
NME follows the codes and conventions when it comes to the regular content and features as it always
sticks to 4 main features the has a features section which has bands and artist articles which would
possible be on a double page spread.
Advertising is also used on every contents page as it will appeal to the readers and make them want to buy
another issue again. The colour scheme of the advertisements usually don’t follow the main colour
scheme which makes it stand out a lot more.
3. Kerrang!

•
•
•
The main image of this contents page signifies that this is in the rock music genre. As it is the
largest part of the page it will automatically make the reader look at it.
There is a consistent colour scheme which is used throughout the whole of the magazine in
this issue it is red black yellow and white.
The layout follows the 3 columns but that is only used when it comes to the main cover lines
and feature articles because the main image is on top and not in a certain column
Advertising with a black background will make it stand out so there's not a chance that the
reader will miss it. The advertisement also uses images which makes it more interesting.
In every issue in the first column it has a small part from the editor which will make you feel
welcomed as its very informal and chatty.
4. Q!
•
The main image on the contents page is of the artist that is within the magazine. This is the
centre showing that it is the most important part of the page and so it’s the first thing you
see. Under the main image is a smaller one and both have a piece of information about the
image which will make you more interested.
•
The house style runs throughout the whole of the magazine using the main colours of black
red white and grey. Each of these compliment each other and make them stand out.
The masthead uses the logo ‘Q’ then next to it has the title contents page is a similar font and
size but different colours so that they contrast to make each other stand out.
The heading alternate from san- serif to serif and from bold to italic which could reflect what
the sections mean.
Every issue has on the contents page a features section which will be things only in that
magazine no others and an every month section which is just the same as regular content.

5. Classic Rock
•
•
•
•
The image on this contents page takes up 3 quarters of the page as the image is of the iconic
rock band The Rolling Stones. It was taken at as a long shot so that all the members would fit
in.
As the colour scheme lacks a lot of colours and uses mostly black grey white and hints of red
which represents danger, anger and a rebellious behaviour commonly relates to rock.
The masthead for the contents page is different to other magazines as it is smaller than the
subheading. It doesn’t stand out as much as the subheading as it’s the same colour as all the
pieces of text.
The text is very simple and keeps to the colour of black which is generic colours for a rock
music magazine. The article heading is bigger than the actual overview which will result in
the reader being instantly attracted to that piece of text.
