The document discusses the process of creating a student magazine as a preliminary task. It compares the conventions used in the student magazine to those of professional magazines like Marie Claire. Key conventions discussed include using two main colors, including the date, keeping to the rule of thirds for image and text placement, and including cover lines and headings to attract readers. The document also covers learning how to use software like Photoshop and InDesign to design the magazine cover and contents page professionally.
2. In what ways does your media product use, develop or
challenge forms and conventions of media products?

3. In what ways does your media product
use, develop or challenge forms and conventions
of media
• Like Marie Claire magazine, my main
background image is keeping to the medium
close rule for front covers of magazines. I put
the masthead in the top, by keeping the rule
of thirds in mind, similar to magazines such
as harpers bazaar or Marie Claire, instead of
placing it in the top left hand corner like red
magazine. I edited a 6 in the left hand
corner of the main heading to make it more
relevant to the college, the importance of
this is that it will be memorable and
recognisable to the reader, like the vogue
logo, you can just see the first or second
letter and you know immediately what
magazine you are looking at, another thing I
did was made sure the 6 is on the left so that
you notice it on the shelf. A large amount of
my cover lines are on the left hand side of
the page.
4. In what ways does your media product use,
develop or challenge forms and conventions of
media
• My magazine and Marie Claire are similar
in the sense that they both alternate in two
different colours, they both keep to the
theme throughout the front cover and
contents. I used the colour purple because it
is the college colours and orange because it
compliments the colour purple well. I didn’t
want the colours to clash because I want to
attract the audiences attention in a positive
way. Unlike Marie Claire I have used a
range of fonts that are similar because I
didn’t want the magazine to be too
bland, the main fonts I used were ‘simhei’
for example, I used this font because its not
too fancy which will make the magazine
look unprofessional, however its not a
boring font, it attracts the eye being in
capital letters and bold, and the bold
colouring.

Heat magazine have more pages than my magazine contents more either the page related or
so they have more writing to fill their spaces interesting and informing you on what it is about.
6. In what ways does your media product use,
develop or challenge forms and conventions of
media
• I made sure that in my contents page
there was no empty spaces, so I tried to
fill them with fonts by making them
bigger, images and colour. I did this
because it makes the magazine look
unprofessional and boring, which may put
the reader off from carrying on through
the magazine. I included three photo’s, all
with captions, either for the page relevant
to the image or a reminder of something
involved in the magazine. I even added an
editors message at the top of the contents
page, firstly because it is meant to be the
very first edition to student magazine, so
its informing the readers what the
magazine is going to be about and what
will ne included in the magazine for the
rest of the issues, trying to grab their
audience and make people pick it up and
read it.
7. What have you learnt about technologies from
the process of constructing this product?
I learnt how to use the
camera’s and making sure
that the photo is at the
highest quality possible. I
had to make sure that the
photo fro my front cover
was medium close up
(MCU). I had to make sure
that the photo wasn’t fake

8. What have you learnt about technologies from
the process of constructing this product?
• I have learnt to use Photoshop and how to produce a
magazine, but mainly how to re size an image by not
distorting it, by making them fit correctly without
stretching and widening the images shape.
• I also learnt how to use in design, which I am not familiar
at all with.
• Understanding layers in both Photoshop and in design.
• Making pictures or text spaced out exactly using the align
tool.
• Arranging the image of the page using the select tool.
• I know how to transfer images I have taken from the
camera to the USB port in the computer.
