4.Who would the audience be for your
media product?
3. *
The Target audience for my media product would be males aged 16- 26 and who have a keen interest in
rock music their social class will be middle class and there ethnicity will be white. These are the major
factors when I was identifying my Target audience as I believe that this is the largest group that my
magazine would appeal to, I discovered this through the use of my questionnaire during the research stage
of the creation of my media product , I found that that the genre I created my magazine around (Rock) was
most popular we catered towards this audience. However I also attempted to target smaller social groups
such as ‘hipsters’ young males looking away from mainstream media, Through the use of smaller bands who
are less well known and have a style of music which is not mainstream, also the clothes worn by these
artists also represents this.

4. *Age and social class
I choose an age range of 16-26 because I from my research these were
the age range that were most interested in the artists and genre I was
including in my magazine. For social class the middle classes had the
most expendable income and would be more willing to spend money
on subscriptions to my magazine and therefore making it more
successful. I also took from my research the price that each social
group would spend on a magazine and middle class males put on
average the highest. This is reflected in my cover star whom himself is
a young white male.
5. *
I choose a white ethnicity for the audience of my magazine because I felt it would
give me the best chance of success as a media product with other ethnicities being
a minority for their interest in Rock music magazines and therefore the magazine
would be less successful if the target ethnicity changed. When conducting my
research into Rock magazines such as NME and Kerrang! I felt that the audience
they were targeting are the same as mine therefore I am keeping convention in
understanding who will purchase my magazine.
Gender was a more difficult decision in terms of who should be the main focus
however I decided that male would be more appropriate for the genre I have
chosen as rock is a very white male focused genre and therefore I was not willing to
break convention and target my magazine to a smaller target audience which could
lead to it having less success.
6. *
The lifestyle of those who my target audience represents would be young males
aged 16 to 26 who are middle class and have expendable income which is spent on
their interests which will reflect on their social group with many of my target
audience belonging to the ‘Hipster’ identity therefor they will be interested in new
and non mainstream items and they will most likely wear brand less clothing and
have music interest with bands that follow this convention/social group
