1. Preliminary TaskFinal Task
Masthead
I have developed my skills within
the final task by adding a drop
shadow to the masthead. I
familiarised my self with the certain
tools to be able to do this. The drop
shadow allowed the masthead to
be more dominating compared to
the masthead in my preliminary
task.
Main image
In the final task I chose to
manipulate my main image to a
greater extent. In the preliminary I
was able to blur the background.
However, I have developed my
skills in the final enabling me to
remove the background using the
magic wand tool. I was then able to
add a grey background making it
look like the picture was taken
against the grey.
Coverlines
I learnt new skills in many ways
when creating my coverlines. In the
preliminary I used colour overlay to
change the colour of my coverlines.
In the final I have again used colour
overlay but have also learnt a new
skill of adding a stroke to the text.
This allows the text to stand and
draw the attention of the reader.
2. Preliminary TaskFinal Task
Title
I have taken both titles from Dafont
however I have learnt new skills to
be able to manipulate the text.
Because the background isn’t pure
white on my final contents, I had to
remove the white box behind the
text. I learnt how to use the magic
wand tool and was able to select
the white background and remove
it.
Sub-titles
I haven’t used sub-titles in the
preliminary, so this was a new
thing in the final task. I used colour
overlay on the text and then learnt
how to create a box. To do this I
used the rectangle tool. I was then
able to use colour overlay to make
the box gold.
Images
In my preliminary I left my pictures
as they were. However, in the final
I developed my skills and was able
to alter the brightness and contrast
of the images.
3. Since the preliminary task I now have more of an understanding of what a target
audience is. There are different target audiences and they have to be addressed in
different ways if you want your product to appeal to them. I was not specific enough in
explaining my target audience in the preliminary task however in my final task I have
clearly stated who I am aiming my product at. Stereotypes are also important and I have
also learnt how to follow this. For example R&B artists are known to wear big gold
jewellery. My cover artist wore a large gold necklace and earrings.
From researching many music magazines I have realised the effect an editorial has. I
didn’t include this within my preliminary magazine however I did include it within my final.
The editorial allowed me to introduce my audience to a new product creating a
welcoming atmosphere to the magazine.
I have also learnt the importance of colour scheme and how certain colours can portray
certain genres and attract target audiences. I did research into which colours would suit
my genre of R&B and also which colours would attract a young audience.
