Question 7
1. QUESTION 7:
Looking back at your
preliminary task, what do
you feel you have learnt in
the progression from it to
the full product?
by Ellie Cobbett
2. From my preliminary task, I learnt how to use puffs and covermounts
to attract the target audience. On my front cover and contents page, I
have included several competitions such as winning festival tickets
and pieces of merchandise. I understood that this would attract my
target audience because I was offering exclusives and free gifts.

3. m i s e - e n - s c e n e
I learnt how to include miseen
scene which reflect my music
genre and target audience. For
example, on my contents page
I’ve included relevant music
instruments such as a
microphone to interest music
lovers. Furthermore, I learnt to
use miseenscene such as
clothing and accessories to attract
the right target audience. All of
this helps create the theme and
genre for the audience.
4. TECHNOLOGIES - PHOTOSHOP
In the progression from my preliminary task, I have learnt how to
use PhotoShop more. For my front cover of my full product, I was
able to cut out the background of my image and change the colour
of the models clothing because my knowledge of Photoshop had
grew since the preliminary task. Whereas for my preliminary task,
you can see that I didn’t remove the background or manipulate the
image in any way. By learning how to, it enabled me to make my
magazine look more professional and let me do more things I never
could do before.
5. For my contents page, one of the main things I learnt was how to make
use of the space on the page and how to lay things out. As you can tell
from my preliminary task, I left big blank spaces on the contents page
which made it look less professional. However, for my final product I
made sure that I didn’t leave big gaps and laid things out better than
before.
6. c o l o u r s c h e m e
From the preliminary task, I have
learnt how to work with colours
and fonts to attract my target
audience. I understood that
different colours connote
different themes, moods and
feelings. For example, red can
connote love, danger or
christmas. Furthermore, with
fonts, you can use different styles
to attract different audiences such
as using a thin elegant
handwritten font to attract
women. Or in my case, I used an
eroded ripped kind of font so it
reflects my genre and target
audience, therefore it'll attract
them more.
7. TARGET AUDIENCE
One of the main differences between my preliminary task and full
product was how I only had to consider one magazine genre which
had a specific target audience. For my preliminary task, there was
only one target audience, which were students, but with this task I
learnt about subcultures and different target audiences for
different types of music.
