2. • Masthead: the masthead of the magazine is ‘INDXE’. This appeals to the
target audience as adding the letter ‘x’ in place of a letter in the name is
popular within the genre, meaning that people who know the genre will be
the only people who know what the magazine is saying
• Cover mounts: the cover mounts will appeal to the target audience as the
target audience is from a lower social class with a lower income, meaning
that the voucher in the puff will appeal to them a lot as they can purchase
clothes form a shop the target audience will appeal to
• Colour scheme: the colour scheme was chosen by the target audience from
the focus groups. The colour scheme meant that the magazine had a
feminine look to it, however, was not stereotypically pink, as this would not
have appealed to the target audience
• Cover lines: the cover lines involve topics like festivals and bands, showing
how the magazine is suitable for the genre and is discussing topics they will
like. One cover line is a rhetorical question towards the reader. This will
attract the audience as they feel involved in the magazine, like they are
being spoken to.
• Images: the other images throughout the magazine will attract the audience
due to the mise-en-scene. All of the images show people wearing clothes
that the audience will wear, or be interested in, and show a musical
instrument (acoustic guitar), which is something associated with the indie
genre and not others, like rock.
3. • Main image: the main image shows a white, young female, who fits
the target audience due to her clothing choices, as she is seen to
be wearing an oversized red jumper, which is something that the
target audience, making her relatable, meaning that it is something
that someone who is interested in indie music will like
• Language: throughout the magazine I have used standard English,
with a bit of current slang. This makes it appealing for the target
audience as they will actually be able to understand the magazine,
and again makes the topic spoken about in the article relatable,
which is extremely appealing to the target audience, as they look to
band members as someone they would be able to relate to
• Strapline: the strapline features popular artists in the indie genre.
This will attract the target audience because it will make the
readers know that the magazine is in fact an indie magazine, and
the content of the magazine will feature topics that is suitable to the
genre. It is a bright purple colour, and is at the top of the front
cover, therefore it will attract the target audience because it will be
one of the first things that they will see on the page.
