What kind of media institution might
distribute your media product and why?

2. When researching for my music
magazine I used kerrang as a basis to
work my design as I wanted to create a
rock magazine. Kerrang is a rock
magazine distributed by Bauer media,
because of this it makes sense that a
company such as Bauer would want to
distribute my magazine AMPED! As they
have their fingers in quite a lot of rock
flavoured pies.
Bauer Media group is Europe’s largest
privately owned publishing group. They have
brands in fifteen countries as well as having
radio, TV and online stations. The heritage of
Bauer goes back to 1953 giving them 60
years of experience in the media industry.
Making them a brilliant candidate for my
music magazine.
3. • To say that Bauer has an interest in the genre of rock would be an under
statement. The risk of my magazine AMPED! Being unsuccessful is very
slim as they have such a vast knowledge of this type of industry and rock
music its self. Bauer media’s brands include Kerrang, MOJO, Q, planet rock
radio station, The box and many other brands such as closer, zoo and
magic radio station.
• Bauer have an extravagant knowledge of not only rock music but of the
music industry in general. They know how to create a popular magazine
such as For him magazine which was a small business they brought in 1994
and is now the best selling international multi national brand FHM.
4. My target audience for my magazine is 16 – 25 year old males and females that take
an interest in all forms of rock whether that be indie/punk or just plain old rock and roll.
The dominating age range that kerrang magazine cater for is 15 to 24 this making it
clear to me that Bauer are capable of fitting the age range for my magazine as it one
that they have experience of already fitting this market.
However this could be seen as a disadvantage because they already have Kerrang
that cater for the magazine age range I’m looking for. Although this can be seen as a
disadvantage Im more than happy for my magazine to be distributed by Bauer as there
could be an element of healthy competition between the similar magazines and it would
create more capital for Bauer as a money making organisation. Bauer media deal with a
large variety of media forms and a good variety of them are centred around the music
industry showing a favouritism to rock. This telling me that they would be perfect for my
Rock Magazine AMPED!
