an idea or ideas to another
individual or group.
• when there is an exchange of news
or information, communication
occurs
• communication only occurs if both
parties understand the information.
4. • Sender- usually decides whether the
communication is successful or not.
• Encoding- is the process of breaking
down information into symbols and
ideas.
• Message- the core meaning of the ideas
you are trying to convey.
• Channel- is the delivery system, what
you conveying your ideas or information
through.
5. •Decoding- how you break down the
message, usually influenced by events in
your life.
•Receiver-the person or group that
receives the message and is responsible
for feedback (important)
Feedback- the reply of the message,
given back to the sender and confirming
that communication has occurred
•Noise-any outside interruptions that may
change the message or meaning.
6. Communication:
Nonverbal & Verbal
Communication is the transferring information from an
individual to another. This communication occurs in
two ways: verbal and nonverbal.
Verbal Communication - is communication that occurs
through the use of actual language, using words and
sentences.
Nonverbal Communication - occurs through the
exchange of facial expressions and body language.
7. 5 Types of Communication
Intrapersonal-communicating with yourself
Interpersonal- communication with one other
person and yourself
Small group- communication amongst a small
group of people max. 10
Public communication-a place where
communication is occurring for others to join.
Mass communication- the use of technology to
pass on your message. (mic, radio, TV)
8. Truth vs. Validity
Truth is a fact of certainty. A fact that has been
verified by the presence of evidence. For example
a proven statement that is back up by proff .
Validity is reasoning used to support an argument.
It is measured with the possibility or probability
based on reasoning.
Critical thinkers use validity to find answers to
questions where there is no presence of evidence to
figure out the truth. It is a reasonable guess.
