Hornless Sheep Research Paper
Black more and Delaney explained mechanical stunning of animals. According to them it is
achieved by using Penetrative Captive Bolt or Non–penetrative Percussion Stunning. Neuronal
dysfunction and/or destruction, and subsequent insensibility result due to transference of kinetic
energy from a moving object to the brain so, the basic principles are the same. Initial observations
found that mechanical stunning is humane, except in very large bulls, provided the captive bolt
penetrates the skull of the animal at the correct site. The correct site in hornless sheep is at the
highest point of the head when held horizontally and aimed towards the throat; for horned sheep, the
site is just behind the ridge that runs between the horns and aimed towards ... Show more content on

When the stun is completed, the nose electrode retracts and the chin lifter returns to its normal
position. The Operator will then release the head restraint which then retracts enabling the exit doors
to open and the animal rolls out. 6. Ritual throat cut will be carried out within 10 seconds of animal
rolling out. 7. The operator will push the immobilizer start button, which allows current to flow
from the fixed electrodes through the animal's body to the head bars. 8. After the preset time
(usuallyabout20 s)the immobilizer will switch off. Sticking, rodding and weasand tying can be
carried out at this time. 9. The animal will then be hoisted, and the wash cycle will be

Analysis Of The Texas Chain Saw Massacre
If I were to remake the 1974 version of The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, I would update it to have
current technology. I would update the movie so people had cell phones; I would have social media
play a big part in the movie; I would also put in updated vehicles and machinery. With these
changes to the movie I feel like it would help the movie become more modern. Nowadays everyone
has a cell phone. From 80 year olds to 10 year olds, almost everyone has a cell phone. In remaking
The Texas Chain Saw Massacre for current times I feel like adding cell phones would be a major
key in helping the movie fit our generation. For example, the "hitchhiker" wouldn't be a hitchhiker
in today's society, so the only thing I could think of to have the teenagers pick up a random person
was if Franklin was using a dating app and was going to pick up someone he has been talking to.
Franklin would be talking about how he has been talking to this girl for a while now, and he wanted
to bring her with on the teenagers trip. They would eventually find her waiting at a bus stop to be
picked up by Franklin and the rest of the teenagers. Franklin described how caring and loving this
girl was online. This girl could be a new family member of the killers from the old movie. When she
gets in the van Franklin notices right away she doesn't look like her profile picture did online.
Online she was a short blonde girl that had a couple blue streaks in her hair, but when the teenagers
pick her up they pick up a tall girl with jet black hair. She could eventually go crazy and the
teenagers kick her out like they did with the hitchhiker in the original (Texas Chain Saw Massacre).
After they kick the crazy girl out, Pam would go on to read off of her phone all the horoscopes that
she is obsessed with. Pam talks about how Franklin's birthday is coming up in early november
making him a Scorpio. She continues to say how this month's horoscope for Scorpios says how
these next couple of days will be strugglesome and frustrating. Another way cell phones would
change the movie would be if the lost someone in the group they would just call them to try and
figure out where they are. When Kirk and Pam go missing, someone would most likely end up
calling their

Horse Slaughter Is The Act Of Slaughtering Horses
For the last five thousand years the horse has been of greater human interest for its strength than as a
source of meat. However, American horses are still shipped over our borders and slaughtered for
human consumption overseas. Horse slaughter and the export of horses from the United States
should be banned because it is cruel and inhumane; furthermore, consuming American horse meat
can be detrimental to human health. Horse slaughter is the act of slaughtering horses to obtain their
meat for human (or animal) consumption. Horses are mainly slaughtered for human consumption
however there are some zoos that feed their animals horse meat. Horse slaughter is exactly what it
sounds like, it is slaughter, these horses are not humanely ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

However although horses are not slaughtered or eaten in the United States, more than 100,000
companion, working and even wild horses are shipped to Mexican and Canadian slaughterhouses
for consumption overseas in Europe and Asia each year (Stepping). Horses end up at slaughter
through a number of ways. The most common being that horse owners bring their horses to
livestock auctions when they can no longer afford them, expecting them to find a good home.
However, that is not always the case, what sellers fail to realize is there are middlemen for foreign–
owned slaughterhouses, known as "kill buyers", who frequent these auctions looking for horses.
Often kill buyers can be see communicating with the auctioneer in the auction ring. They often
outbid genuine horse owners and rescues, robbing the horses of the opportunity for a second chance
at life. Sometimes kill buyers respond to "Free horse to good home" advertisements. These
advertisements are usually from families who love their horses but can no longer afford them so
they give them away. They sign a paper thinking that their horse is going to a good home but in
actuality they are signing the horse's death warrant. Along with kill buyers there are people known
as rustlers who steal horses straight from barns and dump them at the nearest auction for a quick
buck. Even more alarming, wild horses,

Animal Slaughterhouses Should Be Illegal
Animal slaughterhouses should be illegal
Each year, 56 billion farmed animals are killed by humans worldwide for food. 3,000 of these
deaths happen every second and come from the animal slaughterhouses. They are legal in countries
all over the world despite the brutal killing that goes on inside of them. If slaughterhouses had glass
doors, would we consider changing the laws around how they are used? Assuming that it is essential
for animals to be killed, they deserve to die painlessly in their natural habitat.
Confining and killing an animal in an environment which is not their natural habitat is wrong. We
are the only ones that have the choice to decide whether we hold animals captive in a building to
slaughter them or kill them while living in their natural habitat. To hold an animal captive is unfair.
It makes them frustrated and scared since it is only lengthening the time that it is taking for them to
be slaughtered to their deaths. If we were to ban these inhumane slaughter houses, it would make a
massive difference as to how quick and more peaceful the deaths of animals would be considering
the disturbing methods animals are currently undertaking in slaughterhouses. ... Show more content

Some of the ways in which animals are slaughtered include being stunned electrically or gassed
before being killed. Captive bolt stunning is the most common way to slaughter a larger animal such
as a cow. This involves having a 'pistol' placed against their head then shooting a metal rod into their
brains. But more often than not, it misses the target. Throat cutting and using chest sticks are
alternative ways to kill an animal before being sent off to make meat and are both used to make
them bleed to death. If humans were to do anything similar like this to each other we would be
locked up for 'manslaughter' because it is considered

Should Horse Slaughter Be Banned Essay
A Slaughter ban, is not the answer for the Canadian Horse As of "2007, [in the United States] the
last three processing plants in Texas and Illinois were closed due to state and federal laws" (Stull
68). Currently, there are "four Canadian and three to five Mexican plants in operation with federal
licenses and government–inspected programs necessary for export markets" (Stull 69). In view of
this, if Canada, enacts a ban on horse slaughter, there is no guarantee that it will save equine lives or
improve their welfare. The slaughter of horses in Canada does not require a ban for the following
reasons, it results in horses travelling further for slaughter, it leads to higher rates of horse
abandonment and neglect, and finally the regulations under which horses travel, and receive stunning
in Canada effectively ensure the humane treatment of horses.
Other defenders of anti–slaughter legislation, have several reasons for their objections. The first is
the assertion that, during transport to slaughter "horses, despite USDA oversight, suffer during
transportation to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Contrary to other livestock that are raised specifically for human consumption, the purpose of
breeding horses is for pleasure uses. As Lenz reflected "Horses processed for meat represent the
lowest economic level of the horse population and typify the unwanted horse in the United States"
(253). Therefore, when a horse ends up at slaughter facility, it is likely due to one or more of the
following reasons, the owner no longer finds the horse suitable, the horse is dangerous, the horse is
injured, the horse is unable to be re–homed, or finally the owner can no longer afford to continue
feeding and caring for the horse. Arguably, rescue facilities to take in unwanted horses in the United
States exist, however they "do not meet the needs to care for these horses due to limited capacity
and funding" (Stull

The Slaughter Of Humans And Contemporary Animal Slaughter
Hung upside down by their feet, their throats are slit to drain the blood. This is an image that
appears in most every slaughterhouse across the globe. John Ajvide Lindqvist's novel, Let the Right
One In, similarly portrays these scenes of slaughter with one difference: the victims of slaughter are
humans not animals. Set in the suburbs of Stockholm, Lindqvist's novel tells of a young and
severely bullied boy, Oskar, who befriends a centuries old child vampire named Eli. Because of her
childlike body, Eli requires her older male companion, Håkan, to procure blood for her. As he hangs
his victims by their feet and slits their throats to collect the blood, Håkan's process of obtaining
human blood is clearly evocative of contemporary Western practices of animal slaughter. However,
the difference between Håkan's slaughter of humans and contemporary animal slaughter is not
merely the victims' species but is, more importantly, the space in which these acts occur. Despite
meat consumption's widespread acceptance, meat production by means of slaughter is still visually
disturbing and thus, in order to be socially tolerable, must not be seen. Indeed, since the 19th
century, the slaughterhouse has been spatially located at the edges of urban space in order to render
its violent actions socially invisible. What happens, then, when the slaughter occurs within the urban
space as Håkan's acts of slaughter do? By comparing animal slaughter to the novel's scenes of
human slaughter in terms

Creative Writing: Welcome To The Wastes: Southern Montana
Welcome to the Wastes It's a cold autumn morning in southern Montana. It's 2040, and civilized life
has ceased to exist. Bombs fell in 2017, Wars for control erupted all over the world and weapons are
in short supply. Lilith and I have been scouting Montana for weeks now in search of weapons and
wealth. Our most recent journey has landed us in the lap of tribals who want all the weapons we've
found. In order to keep our weapons and our lives we must fight for survival. I once read in an old
world book that only the strong survive. This is the story of our strength, and of our survival. "I see

left arm. It looked like a box with a tube that extends slightly over the man's fist. That is the weapon
I need to get before I could leave. I don't want to go into this village and commit genocide. I had
killed people before, sure, but not exterminated a village full of women and children. I will shoot

I'll put a three round burst in their chest. The women and children will be freed from slavery. I'm

Anton Chigurh Character Analysis
Anton Chigurh: A Sociopath with Principles In Cormac McCarthy's No Country for Old Men, Anton
Chigurh is a hitman tasked with recovering drug money stolen by the main protagonist, Llewelyn
Moss. Chigurh is completely ruthless and he allows nothing to interfere. Chigurh kills without
thought or remorse but paradoxically follows "moral" principles that are based solely on chance. In
the novel, Anton Chigurh is portrayed as sociopathic, arrogant, yet ironically trustworthy. First,
Chigurh's characteristics are consistent with those of a sociopath meaning he does not feel emotion
and he lacks empathy. Throughout the novel, Chigurh kills every man and woman who obstructs
him without expressing any sign of remorse. Chigurh callously states that his victims always say
"you dont have to do this" just before he kills them (257). While he is explaining to Carla Jean why
he must kill her, Chigurh tells her that it is pointless to plead for her life because he intends to kill
her regardless. Given that he is sociopathic, Chigurh feels no compassion for his victims who are
begging for their lives. They fear death, an emotion Chigurh has never felt. Shortly after their
conversation, Chigurh shoots Carla Jean despite her pleas. Additionally, Chigurh ruthlessly kills
anyone to accomplish his task more efficiently. For example, Chigurh kills a deputy and a bystander,
Bill Wyrick, for the sole purpose of stealing their cars. After killing the innocent man with the cattle
gun, Chigurh

Animal Slaughtering Is The Killing Of Animals
Animal slaughtering is the killing of animals; most of them domestic, and mainly for the purpose of
human consumption. Many different types of animal slaughtering methods have been created such
as; carbon dioxide, inert gas hypoxia, captive bolt pistol, gunshot, exsanguination, and many other
that are not regulated. Such varying methods have evolved since the beginning of times, but with the
increasing rates of the human population a faster way of slaughtering needed to be created in order
to keep up. The question here is, have we, in our attempt to provide for the many, forgotten about
ethical ways to kill those that are gifting us with their life?
The problem we need to understand here is that many of these regulated methods are not ethical and
cause suffering to the dying animal. Whether it causes them "pain and distress even at low
concentrations" due to the carbon dioxide, "broken bones" due to shackling, "massive damage to the
skull and a shockwave which stuns the brain" due to captive bolt pistol, or a slow and painful death
if their "sticking wound is inaccurately placed" this methods need to be either reevaluated or
vanished. It is not fair for animals to suffer and undergo horrible deaths just to satiate our hunger.
When did we start forgetting how to take care of that that give us life? When did we start killing
without mercy for the sake of our people? When did we forget to care for the minority in order to
benefit the majority?

The Incredible And Sad Tale Of Innocent Erendira And Her...
Erendira was bathing her grandmother when the wind of her misfortune began to blow. The
enormous mansion of moon like concrete lost in the solitude of the desert trembled down to its
foundations with the first attack. But Erendira and her grandmother were used to the risks of the
wild nature there, and in the bathroom decorated with a series of peacocks and childish mosaics of
Roman baths they scarcely paid any attention to the wind. The grandmother, naked and huge in the
marble tub, looked like a handsome white whale. The granddaughter had just turned fourteen and
was languid, soft–boned, and too meek for her age. With a parsimony that had something like sacred
rigor about it, she was bathing her grandmother with water in which purifying ... Show more content

misfortune. At twelve o 'clock she was wiping the last champagne glasses when she caught the smell
of broth and had to perform the miracle of running to the kitchen without leaving a disaster of
Venetian glass in her wake. She just managed to take the pot off the stove as it was beginning to boil
over. Then she put on a stew she had already prepared and took advantage of a chance to sit down
and rest on a stool in the kitchen. She closed her eyes, opened them again with an unfatigued
expression, and began pouring the soup into the tureen. She was working as she slept. The
grandmother had sat down alone at the head of a banquet table with silver candlesticks set for
twelve people. She shook her little bell and Erendira arrived almost immediately with the steaming
tureen. As Erendira was serving the soup, her grandmother noticed the somnambulist look and
passed her hand in front of her eyes as if wiping an invisible pane of glass. The girl

Old Men Fidelity
Adaptation between literary and visual media frequently involves the problematic notion of
'fidelity', or the degree of faithfulness with which a preceding work is reproduced. Conspicuous
debates have been spouted among various scholars and critics concerning this prominent issue. In
the screen adaptation of No Country for Old Men, filmmakers Joel and Ethan Coen utilize an audio–
visual sign system of film in order to convey a new level of symbolism within the diegesis. As a
result, the issue of 'fidelity discourse' is raised due to the elision of key dialogue from Cormac
McCarthy's precursor text.
A variety of approaches have been proposed by academics in order to judge the notion of fidelity
with regard to No Country for Old Men. In an interview ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Identical to the exchange with the gas station owner, Chigurh's coin toss proposition to Carla Jean is
consistent in the novel and the film. McCarthy's dialogue between Chigurh and Carla Jean is
lengthier, more shrewd yet cognizant in the novel when compared to the film. In the context of this
scene, it can be argued that further development of Carla Jean's character could significantly impact
the viewer's overall understanding of the dynamic between her and Chigurh. Thus, the Coens have
deliberately elided dialogue in this scene to assert Chigurh's recurring cycle of ruthless degradation
of his victims. Carla Jean's response to Chigurh's coin toss proposal is significantly different in both
the novel and the film. Consequently, a new symbolic meaning is developed amid the interaction. In
the novel, Carla Jean calls 'tails' however due to misfortune, the result is 'heads'. In contrast to the
novel, the film has elided Carla Jean's acceptance of the toss. In the novel, McCarthy's Carla Jean
appears to be powerless and easily willing to accept her fate. However in the film, the character is
approached in a contrasting manner where the Coens have moulded her into a self–reliant, assertive
woman. In her final act of defiance, she simply states that she does not have to listen to Chigurh's
coin philosophy, and in doing so, she denies Chigurh of his incentive. Through Carla

The Health Benefits Of Meat And Vegan Diets
The dictionary definition of vegan is 1. A vegetarian who omits all animal products from their diet.
2. A person who does not use any animal products, e.g. leather or wool. I'm aware that there are
many different issues within the vegan topic but I'm going to try and touch on them all even if it's
just a little bit within this essay. I'm hoping to find out the truth behind what actually happens in the
meat industry especially with animal cruelty. I'm also hoping to find out what the meat and egg
industry does to our atmosphere as there are so many toxic gases that are by–products of this. I'm
going to be comparing the health benefits and downsides to both meat and vegan diets and hopefully
help someone better their life.
Most people who eat meat are very healthy, in fact almost everyone can live a normal healthy life
eating meat on a daily basis. But there are so many health risks when it comes to eating meat in
almost every meal that most people don't even know existed. Meat has all the good nutrients in it
like protein as well as vitamins a, b, c, d and k but it also has so much bad things in it that can harm
the human body, like saturated fats and cholesterol. But those bad things are only the start of the
horror that comes with eating meat. An overload of iron which is abundant in red meat can threaten
your heart, and sodium and nitrates from processed meats make matters even worse. In a Harvard
test they tracked the food choices of more than 121,000 adults for over 28

Euthanizing Healthy Animals
A one year old male black pit bull has been at animal control for a month now. He passed all the
tests that many don't pass. He made it through and began to have hope about a new loving home that
he had never experienced. One day, though, one of the caretakers walks into the kennels and had a
leash in her hand. She came into the dog's kennel, and he started to wag his tail thinking that he is
going on a walk. He was removed from the kennel and soon realized that they walked past the door
to go outside. He wondered curiously what they were doing. They turned the corner and his nose
became engulfed with the smell of death. He becomes frightened. The only reaction that comes to
mind is to flee, but he can't. He is restrained by the rope leash tied around his neck. The only thing

Temple Grandin Ethics Essay
Recently in one of my English classes we begin to study the importance of eating meat and treating
animals. We started off with articles of different meanings but then we began to watch a movie
named Temple Grandin which really caught my attention. Temple Grandin was very different than
her fellow classmates and got made fun of constantly. She had, as the doctors said, Autism.
Although she had a different type of Autism she still did what she wanted to do. Later in the movie
she began to do some research and discovers something that she never saw before and what caught
my attention. Cattle, as she saw, were "mooing" because of what seems that something is scaring
them away from the farmers before being slaughtered. As she would say, "Nature is cruel but we
don't have to be". She then created a system that made the cattle comfortable before being
slaughtered. Grandin then began showing others and others about her system and became a star.
Grandin believed that if these animals gave us food the best thing we can do is treat them with care.
Which also came to my senses and made me believe in the same thing Temple Grandin believes in.
Animals are killed for us everyday and we treat them very badly, which is very sad. If they are being
killed for us then let's treat them with respect and use Temple Grandin system all over the world. ...

The Operations Superintendent would have OPCON and TACON as well. Making small changes to
how we operate as an organization to become more effective in daily operations would be TACON.
The flight chief is the best example of TACON as they run the flight who is conducting the daily
operations. They are told to conduct guardmount, but they are not told in what order they conduct
their briefings or what type of information needs to be briefed every day. They also assign who gets
posted at each location for the day. OPCON would be the post priority chart that tells the flight chief
which posts are the most important and require the most manpower. TACON is used when the flight
chief decided who will work the most important post and who will work the gates. Below is a flow
chart to help you understand how OPCON and TACON blend together (Figure 1–1).

Pigs Slaughter And The Slaughter Of All Livestock
Hog slaughter and the slaughter of all livestock has been a controversial topic over the last few
years. With many organizations out there against animal agriculture such as the Humane Society of
the United States (HSUS) and People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) there has been a
constant push to find the most humane act of livestock harvest as possible while still maintaining
excellent meat quality. Currently, there are four acceptable methods: chemical (Carbon Dioxide –
CO2), mechanical (captive bolt), mechanical (gunshot), and electrical (electrical current). Currently,
all four methods are approved for the slaughter of swine. None, however, are ideal and all have
advantages and disadvantages in pork quality effects which leaves it up for discussion of which is
the best system to use. According to the Humane Methods of Livestock Slaughter Act of 1978, no
method of slaughtering or handling in connection with slaughtering shall be deemed to comply with
the public policy of the United States unless it is humane. Either of the following two methods of
slaughtering and handling are hereby found to be humane: (a) in the case of cattle, calves, horses,
mules, sheep, swine, and other livestock, all animals are rendered insensible to pain by a single blow
or gunshot or an electrical, chemical or other means that is rapid and effective, before being

Theme Of Fate In No Country For Old Men
Fate or Free Will in No Country for Old Men
Throughout the entire movie No Country for Old Men there is a very strong theme of the
juxtaposition of fate and free will. There is endless emphasis on the decisions that characters make,
and how their decisions will ultimately affect their lives. All the characters are presented with
situations where their choice plays a role in their fate. In No Country for Old Men, the fate of
characters is determined by their actions and choices.
The first scene of the movie is set in a police station. An officer who had just apprehended Anton
Chigurh, says "No worries sir, I've got it under control" over the phone. Moments after, the police
officer is dead on the floor after being strangled by Chigurh. Some people might claim that the death
of this officer was predetermined and that there was nothing he could do to prevent himself from
coming across a psychopathic killer like Anton Chigurh. However, his choice to pursue a career as a
police officer put him at a greater risk. It is important to realize that his choices brought him to his
death. In the scene of the movie, the police officer also has his back towards Chigurh who is sitting
on a bench with no restraints other than his handcuffs. The officer's choice to turn his back to a
criminal, and not properly restrain said criminal is his choice. All the choices he made leading up to
his death were the cause of his death. If he had chosen a different career path, he would have had a

Pros And Cons Of Mealtime Dilemma
Mealtime Dilemma A study done by Vegetarian Times has shown that 3.2 percent, or 7.3 million US
adults follow a vegetarian diet (Editors). The main reasons that people have chosen the vegetarian
lifestyle are due to health, the environment, and their own personal morality. When it comes to
living a healthy lifestyle, it is fairly well known that proteins, iron, and vitamins are necessary to
digestive system health. For many people, meat is the go to answer to get these things. However,
meat is not necessary to a balanced meal if these things are consumed on a regular basis. Other
sources that have an abundance of these things include leafy greens, legumes, and natural grains.
The American Dietetic Association admits that "Vegetarian diets are often associated with a number
of health advantages, including lower blood cholesterol levels, lower risk of heart disease, lower
blood pressure levels, and lower risk of hypertension and type 2 diabetes. Vegetarians tend to have a
lower body mass index (BMI) and lower overall cancer rates." (American). This evidence supports
the decision of becoming a vegetarian as many of the health issues in the United States revolve
around these issues. Eating meat has a large negative effect on the environment. When it comes to
deforestation, the Livestock, Environment and Development (LEAD) Initiative says that as
livestock production increases, the mass clearing of trees is also increased. It is said that 20% of the

Taking a Look at Vegetarianism Essay
Vegetarianism
A vegetarian is defined as someone who does not participate in the consumption of poultry, red
meat, seafood, or the flesh of another animal. Unlike vegans, vegetarians still will have dairy
products though. There is much debate over this type of diet amongst people, as it is not the norm.
Proponents of a meat–based diet sometimes claim that vegetarian diets are not healthy and lack the
necessary nutrients a person needs to survive, which is in fact a myth. Additionally, since a meat–
based diet is not the norm it is very difficult for people to imagine omitting meat entirely from their
diets, mainly for convenience purposes. People who eat meat also think it tastes good so they are not
willing to give up a food that is a part ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To know that humans are using the largest amount of land for farming is ridiculous. This is
something that is not a necessity, but rather a luxury–a luxury that is harming our earth in the
process. Regarded as the most important greenhouse gas, carbon dioxide has the most significant
direct–warming impact on global temperature because of the sheer volume of its emissions
(Koneswaran & Nierenberg, 2008). Animal production is a huge contribution the high levels of
greenhouse gases emitted into our environment. "The United Nations' Food and Agriculture
Organization estimates that the meat industry is responsible for 18% of manmade greenhouse gas
emissions" (Barry, Frattaroli, Laestadius, & Neff, 2013). That is an extremely large percentage to be
attributed strictly by meat production. To further prove this, it is stated "40 calories of fossil fuel
energy goes into producing every calorie of feed lot beef in the United States, whereas 2.2 calories
of fossil fuel energy are needed to produce one calorie of plant–based protein" (Domonell, 2012).
Fossil fuels contribute to greenhouse gases as well. Greenhouse gas emission is not an issue to take
lightly. Generally, greenhouse gases are not dangerous, as they allow the planet to remain warm so
we can live here. However, with the rates sky rocketing it is causing the earth's atmosphere to heat
up tremendously, hence causing global warming. "If the earth's temperature rose nine degrees

Persuasive Essay About Horse Slaughter
Would you kill your best friend after years of hard work together? I believe horse slaughter is a
necessary evil due to many different reasons. The first reason is due to horses that cannot be used
anymore due to health reasons. It would be wonderful to be able to afford a lame horse to sit on
pasture all day, but that is not always an option. Nobody is going to buy a lame horse when they can
buy a perfectly able horse for the same price. Where does a lame horse go? He goes to the auction
and a kill buyer buys him. He gets sent across the US border into Canada or Mexico to be
slaughtered. He has to suffer through the long trailer ride in horrendous conditions to the slaughter
plant. Then, he arrives at the slaughter plant. They open the trailer doors and he gets trampled by
other horses trying to get off. Now, he is injured and limps out of the trailer. All the horses are
scared and they are rounded into a pen. They are in the pen and get a chained ... Show more content

I own one and take care of her every day, but I also understand what goes on behind the scenes. I
know that not every horse can have a loving owner. I believe that if a horse is offered a humane
death; it is better than living its life unloved. My horse was an abuse case. She was born as a
colorless paint which means that she was supposed to be born with two or more colors but she was
born with only one color. Her breeder was upset and did not take care of her. She was finally
rescued four years later due to being severely malnourished and beaten. I found her six years later
and she was still malnourished. Now, she suffers with everyday joint issues and pain because of
what she went through. I almost wish they would have sent her off to slaughter for she would not
have had to suffer. Horse slaughter NEEDS to happen. There are too many horses on the earth, and
not enough resources to feed them. They are considered livestock, so I do not see any reason for
them not to be

Persuasive Essay On Horse Slaughter
When you think of horses, you might think of them as one of the symbols of the United States. You
might think of a founding father riding into the sunset on his faithful mount. According to an article
written by Brandon Gaille, 80% of American voters are against horse slaughter. But, I want you to
consider what would happen if the US allowed horse slaughter back into its borders again. Could
you imagine walking into a steakhouse and ordering a horse steak? American horses are being sent
into other countries to be inhumanely slaughtered for their meat, and the US is not reaping any
benefits from this process. Today, I invite you to listen about why horse slaughter is needed in the
US, what causes the need for humane horse slaughter, and why horse slaughter is the solution to this
problem. According to an article written by Brandon Gaille, approximately 144,000 horses were
sent to Mexico or Canada to be inhumanely slaughtered in 2013. That's an extreme amount of
America's horses being sent across the border to be inhumanely slaughtered. Horses being sent
across the border often suffer during the trailer ride. These slaughter trailers are very dangerous in
the fact that they are crammed full of sick horses, and there is often no food or water for long
periods of time. If the US brought slaughter back, the animals would be humanely slaughtered and
would not have to be transported inhumanely for long distances.According to The Horse Slaughter
Conundrum, 44% of these horses are

Torture In Medieval Prisons
The Veg Pledge Everything is pitch black. I am pressed up hard against my peers in this moving
enclosure and have been for what feels like a lifetime. I can hardly breathe and the heat is almost
unbearable. The stench of death is penetrating, filling me entirely. Suddenly, light pours from
outside blinding me, I am shoved and kicked by men, who maneuver me out of my previous prison.
I realise that I am free, and begin to run forward, only to collapse as my legs and lungs cannot cope
after standing for so long. I am herded into yet another dark and crowded enclosure with my peers,
my heart begins to race with panic, and I try to resist, squealing and thrashing around. The cruel
men from earlier reappear and poke me with what I assume is a stick, but it sends shockwaves
through me, rendering me unable to move. Little did I know that that would be the last time I would
move. Little did I know that my death could contribute to the destruction of a planet. You are
probably thinking, 'What is this? Some cruel form of torture in a medieval prison?' I hate to tell you,
no, it is not. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Studies show that humans and animals are both highly intelligent, but in very different ways, we see
ourselves as superior as they cannot speak English as we do, this is comparable to native English
speakers seeing foreigners as less intelligent due to them speaking very slow, broken English,
however we know that this does not measure intelligence as they are fluent in a language unknown
to us. Animals are as capable of complex intelligence as humans are; crows are known to create
hooks out of wires, squirrels fake hiding nuts when they know they are being watched, and
chimpanzees have proven to have better short term memory than humans do. Animals are capable of
feeling the exact same amount of pain as humans are, so why is it socially and legally acceptable to

Horse Slaughter Persuasive Essay
There are 9.2 million tame horses and an additional 47,329 wild horses in the United States, while
only 2 million people own horses (Moss; "Horses in the United States"). With that being said, it's
safe to say that the United States has a surplus of horses. One of the most controversial solutions for
the unwanted horses is slaughter. Horse slaughter has been around for decades, but due to changes
in societal views, the topic has ignited controversy. In today's society, horses are being viewed as
companion animals rather than livestock. The problem is that legally, horses are considered
livestock and the laws for the treatment of companion animals versus livestock are very different
(Winegar, "The Horse Slaughter Debate: Solving the Puzzle"). ... Show more content on

If the government were to care for the 100,000 unwanted horses per year, the total cost for one year
would be $220 million (Gwinn). As an alternative for horse slaughter, groups are trying to educate
the public. The HSUS decided to create The HSUS Complete Guide to Equine Care, which explains
all of the responsibilities and price tags involved in owning a horse until the end of its life. They are
also trying to spread the word about ways to get the full horse experience, without taking on the
complete financial and physical responsibilities of owning a horse. Some of these experiences
include leasing, volunteering, attending shows, local 4–H Horse and Pony Club events, or fostering
rescue horses (Winegar, "The Horse Slaughter Debate: Solving the Puzzle") According to PETA,
"Horses are part of our heritage and don't deserve to be packed on trucks and cruelly transported to
slaughter and strung up in front of other terrified and dying animals, the kindest options for other
surplus horses is a rescue organization, sanctuaries with loving guardians" (Winegar, "The Horse

Anton Chigurh In The Film : No Country For Old Men
In the film, No Country for Old Men, fate has hired a hitman. The first time the viewers of this film
are introduced to Anton Chigurh, he is wearing all black clothing and has long black hair. The
lighting is only showing half of his face reviling that he is a sinister man with no emotion and filled
with evil. This is contrast to the prominent tan colors the viewer sees suggesting that Anton is not
from the setting. The first time the viewer learns Anton name is when Carson Wells walks into the
office in the high rise. Anton is an English name which reminds the viewer that he is out of place in
Texas. Anton back ground remains a mystery throughout the film but the principles that he follows
become very clear by the end of the film. The principles that Anton Chigurh follows are
demonstrated by the interaction he has with people in the film, No Country for Old Men.
In the hospital scene when Carson Wells shows up and talks to Llewelyn Moss, Carson refers to
Anton saying "He's a peculiar man. You might even say he has principles. Principles that transcend
money or drugs or anything like that." This is ironic because when Carson meets Anton at the hotel,
he tries to negotiate with Anton to save his life by offering him money. Carson says "Take you to an
ATM. There's 14 grands in it. Everybody just walks away." Like Carson predicted, Anton doesn't
care about the bribe. This is one of Anton principles; money has no influences on his decision and it
doesn't influence who he

Choosing a Vegan Lifestyle Essay
Choosing a Vegan Lifestyle Erica is going out on a date tonight with a boy from her Biology class.
She takes a long shower and washes herself with hard animal fat. Next, she neatly spreads grease
derived from wool onto her lips. To finish herself off, she spreads liquid from a shark liver onto her
face and sprays some oils and liquids derived from the anal sex gland of the beaver and whale
excretion. Now she is ready to go as she is sure that she will impress her date with her dolled up
appearance. Little does she know that the soap, lipstick, makeup and perfume have all been created
from the slaughter of innocent animals. Animal production for agricultural purposes is harmful to

Rabbits are the chosen test subject because they have very poor tear ducts so they cannot wash the
substance away. Next is the skin irritancy test which involves shaving the fur off animals and
applying the test substance to their skin. The skin is observed for signs of irritation. The third test is
toxicity tests. In this test, substances are fed to the animal, and they are observed for signs of
poisoning. The test may last several days causing the animals to tolerate extreme suffering. The
animals that actually survive the test are killed at the end for autopsy. Many people believe that
animals are necessary for testing. However, with the highly advanced technology we have available
today, there are several other options. First of all, there is no reason why manufactured need to use
any new substances because there are over 8,000 ingredients which have already been established as
safe. The law requires new ingredients to be safety tested before they are introduced to the public.
Animals may be the easy answer, but they do not need to be the only answer. Several alternatives
include testing on reconstructed human skin, using computer modeling, and enlisting human
volunteers. Besides, human volunteers are often more reliable to test products for human use rather
than using a different species with a different biology. Animals in the agriculture industry are subject
to an entire life of mistreatment, should their lives even last

Research Paper On Animals In Slaughterhouses
Every year about 56 billion animals in the United States are massacred by humans. These innocent
animals are slaughtered for our taste enjoyment and fashion. Pigs, cows, and chickens are being
treated inadequate living conditions slaughterhouses. Instead of animals, they are treated like
property and objects. People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals exclaims, "On today's factory
farms, animals are crammed by the thousands into filthy, windowless sheds and stuffed into wire
cages, metal crates, and other torturous devices. These animals will never raise their families, root
around in the soil, build nests, or do anything that is natural and important to them. The employs are
not responsible with the animals." Famous brands, like Tyson spend such little money on what the
animals are raised in that tons of the animals die before they make it to their slaughter day. These
innocent animals do not see the sun's warm rays and get fresh air until they're on their way to the
slaughterhouses. Animals in slaughterhouses should be treated more humanely. Typically 1,100 pigs
are slaughtered each hour which ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

unload, they go through the chute where they get shot by a stunner. Just like the pigs, it's supposed
to shoot a pencil sized bullet through the cow's brain to make it go brain dead. The line is moving so

Animal Cruelty in Slaughter Houses Essay
Draft 2
What are currently the poor conditions for animals in the American slaughterhouses, what are the
causes of these conditions, and what are the best methods for preventing slaughterhouse cruelty?
The conditions for animals in modern slaughterhouses are unsanitary and violent. The lack of rules
and regulations cause animals to be treated poorly because this industry is focused on mass
production and profit rather than finding a more humane alternative to run the meat packing
business. The most effective method to stop this cruelty is to learn about where meat comes from,
start supporting the organic and family farms which will ultimately lead to the reducing the amount
of animals that have to suffer.

After, another belt takes them to where a worker cuts their throat and allows them to bleed out.
Some animals are hung up side down by their back legs and move through the processing line where
their necks will be cut one by one (Dugan). Sometimes one of these methods will not work and the
animal will be disassembled while still conscious.
"For most humans, especially for those in modern urban and suburban communities, the most direct
form or contact with non–human animals is at meal time: we eat them. This simple fact is the key to
what each one of us can do about changing these attitudes. The use and abuse of animals raised for
food far exceeds, in sheer numbers of animals affected, any other kind of mistreatment" (Coats).
The most effective method to stop this cruelty is to learn about where the meat comes from, by
supporting the organic and family farms which will ultimately lead to the reducing the amount of
animals that have to suffer (PETA). More than 95 percent of animal abuse in America occurs in the
meat packing industry (Harper & Low). Animals suffer an unimaginable amount, they are raised to
be killed, then bought and then consumed. In order to help fight back against the abuse, there needs
to be a cut back on the amount of meat or poultry that is consumed. Seriously consider the option of
becoming a vegetarian; by not eating meat, you completely stop supporting animal

Hornless Sheep Research Paper

  • 1. Hornless Sheep Research Paper Black more and Delaney explained mechanical stunning of animals. According to them it is achieved by using Penetrative Captive Bolt or Non–penetrative Percussion Stunning. Neuronal dysfunction and/or destruction, and subsequent insensibility result due to transference of kinetic energy from a moving object to the brain so, the basic principles are the same. Initial observations found that mechanical stunning is humane, except in very large bulls, provided the captive bolt penetrates the skull of the animal at the correct site. The correct site in hornless sheep is at the highest point of the head when held horizontally and aimed towards the throat; for horned sheep, the site is just behind the ridge that runs between the horns and aimed towards ... • 2. Analysis Of The Texas Chain Saw Massacre If I were to remake the 1974 version of The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, I would update it to have current technology. I would update the movie so people had cell phones; I would have social media play a big part in the movie; I would also put in updated vehicles and machinery. With these changes to the movie I feel like it would help the movie become more modern. Nowadays everyone has a cell phone. From 80 year olds to 10 year olds, almost everyone has a cell phone. In remaking The Texas Chain Saw Massacre for current times I feel like adding cell phones would be a major key in helping the movie fit our generation. For example, the "hitchhiker" wouldn't be a hitchhiker in today's society, so the only thing I could think of to have the teenagers pick up a random person was if Franklin was using a dating app and was going to pick up someone he has been talking to. Franklin would be talking about how he has been talking to this girl for a while now, and he wanted to bring her with on the teenagers trip. They would eventually find her waiting at a bus stop to be picked up by Franklin and the rest of the teenagers. Franklin described how caring and loving this girl was online. This girl could be a new family member of the killers from the old movie. When she gets in the van Franklin notices right away she doesn't look like her profile picture did online. Online she was a short blonde girl that had a couple blue streaks in her hair, but when the teenagers pick her up they pick up a tall girl with jet black hair. She could eventually go crazy and the teenagers kick her out like they did with the hitchhiker in the original (Texas Chain Saw Massacre). After they kick the crazy girl out, Pam would go on to read off of her phone all the horoscopes that she is obsessed with. Pam talks about how Franklin's birthday is coming up in early november making him a Scorpio. She continues to say how this month's horoscope for Scorpios says how these next couple of days will be strugglesome and frustrating. Another way cell phones would change the movie would be if the lost someone in the group they would just call them to try and figure out where they are. When Kirk and Pam go missing, someone would most likely end up calling their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Horse Slaughter Is The Act Of Slaughtering Horses For the last five thousand years the horse has been of greater human interest for its strength than as a source of meat. However, American horses are still shipped over our borders and slaughtered for human consumption overseas. Horse slaughter and the export of horses from the United States should be banned because it is cruel and inhumane; furthermore, consuming American horse meat can be detrimental to human health. Horse slaughter is the act of slaughtering horses to obtain their meat for human (or animal) consumption. Horses are mainly slaughtered for human consumption however there are some zoos that feed their animals horse meat. However although horses are not slaughtered or eaten in the United States, more than 100,000 companion, working and even wild horses are shipped to Mexican and Canadian slaughterhouses for consumption overseas in Europe and Asia each year (Stepping). Horses end up at slaughter through a number of ways. The most common being that horse owners bring their horses to livestock auctions when they can no longer afford them, expecting them to find a good home. However, that is not always the case, what sellers fail to realize is there are middlemen for foreign– owned slaughterhouses, known as "kill buyers", who frequent these auctions looking for horses. Often kill buyers can be see communicating with the auctioneer in the auction ring. They often outbid genuine horse owners and rescues, robbing the horses of the opportunity for a second chance at life. Sometimes kill buyers respond to "Free horse to good home" advertisements. These advertisements are usually from families who love their horses but can no longer afford them so they give them away. They sign a paper thinking that their horse is going to a good home but in actuality they are signing the horse's death warrant. Along with kill buyers there are people known as rustlers who steal horses straight from barns and dump them at the nearest auction for a quick buck. Even more alarming, wild horses, ... • 4. Animal Slaughterhouses Should Be Illegal Animal slaughterhouses should be illegal Each year, 56 billion farmed animals are killed by humans worldwide for food. 3,000 of these deaths happen every second and come from the animal slaughterhouses. They are legal in countries all over the world despite the brutal killing that goes on inside of them. If slaughterhouses had glass doors, would we consider changing the laws around how they are used? Assuming that it is essential for animals to be killed, they deserve to die painlessly in their natural habitat. Confining and killing an animal in an environment which is not their natural habitat is wrong. We are the only ones that have the choice to decide whether we hold animals captive in a building to slaughter them or kill them while living in their natural habitat. To hold an animal captive is unfair. It makes them frustrated and scared since it is only lengthening the time that it is taking for them to be slaughtered to their deaths. If we were to ban these inhumane slaughter houses, it would make a massive difference as to how quick and more peaceful the deaths of animals would be considering the disturbing methods animals are currently undertaking in slaughterhouses. ... Captive bolt stunning is the most common way to slaughter a larger animal such as a cow. This involves having a 'pistol' placed against their head then shooting a metal rod into their brains. But more often than not, it misses the target. Throat cutting and using chest sticks are alternative ways to kill an animal before being sent off to make meat and are both used to make them bleed to death. • 5. Should Horse Slaughter Be Banned Essay A Slaughter ban, is not the answer for the Canadian Horse As of "2007, [in the United States] the last three processing plants in Texas and Illinois were closed due to state and federal laws" (Stull 68). Currently, there are "four Canadian and three to five Mexican plants in operation with federal licenses and government–inspected programs necessary for export markets" (Stull 69). In view of this, if Canada, enacts a ban on horse slaughter, there is no guarantee that it will save equine lives or improve their welfare. The slaughter of horses in Canada does not require a ban for the following reasons, it results in horses travelling further for slaughter, it leads to higher rates of horse abandonment and neglect, and finally the regulations under which horses travel, and receive stunning in Canada effectively ensure the humane treatment of horses. Other defenders of anti–slaughter legislation, have several reasons for their objections. The first is the assertion that, during transport to slaughter "horses, despite USDA oversight, suffer during transportation to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Therefore, when a horse ends up at slaughter facility, it is likely due to one or more of the following reasons, the owner no longer finds the horse suitable, the horse is dangerous, the horse is injured, the horse is unable to be re–homed, or finally the owner can no longer afford to continue feeding and caring for the horse. Arguably, rescue facilities to take in unwanted horses in the United States exist, however they "do not meet the needs to care for these horses due to limited capacity and funding" (Stull ... • 6. The Slaughter Of Humans And Contemporary Animal Slaughter Hung upside down by their feet, their throats are slit to drain the blood. This is an image that appears in most every slaughterhouse across the globe. John Ajvide Lindqvist's novel, Let the Right One In, similarly portrays these scenes of slaughter with one difference: the victims of slaughter are humans not animals. Set in the suburbs of Stockholm, Lindqvist's novel tells of a young and severely bullied boy, Oskar, who befriends a centuries old child vampire named Eli. Because of her childlike body, Eli requires her older male companion, Håkan, to procure blood for her. As he hangs his victims by their feet and slits their throats to collect the blood, Håkan's process of obtaining human blood is clearly evocative of contemporary Western practices of animal slaughter. However, the difference between Håkan's slaughter of humans and contemporary animal slaughter is not merely the victims' species but is, more importantly, the space in which these acts occur. Despite meat consumption's widespread acceptance, meat production by means of slaughter is still visually disturbing and thus, in order to be socially tolerable, must not be seen. Indeed, since the 19th century, the slaughterhouse has been spatially located at the edges of urban space in order to render its violent actions socially invisible. What happens, then, when the slaughter occurs within the urban space as Håkan's acts of slaughter do? By comparing animal slaughter to the novel's scenes of human slaughter in terms ... • 8. Anton Chigurh Character Analysis Anton Chigurh: A Sociopath with Principles In Cormac McCarthy's No Country for Old Men, Anton Chigurh is a hitman tasked with recovering drug money stolen by the main protagonist, Llewelyn Moss. Chigurh is completely ruthless and he allows nothing to interfere. Chigurh kills without thought or remorse but paradoxically follows "moral" principles that are based solely on chance. In the novel, Anton Chigurh is portrayed as sociopathic, arrogant, yet ironically trustworthy. First, Chigurh's characteristics are consistent with those of a sociopath meaning he does not feel emotion and he lacks empathy. Throughout the novel, Chigurh kills every man and woman who obstructs him without expressing any sign of remorse. Chigurh callously states that his victims always say "you dont have to do this" just before he kills them (257). While he is explaining to Carla Jean why he must kill her, Chigurh tells her that it is pointless to plead for her life because he intends to kill her regardless. Given that he is sociopathic, Chigurh feels no compassion for his victims who are begging for their lives. They fear death, an emotion Chigurh has never felt. Shortly after their conversation, Chigurh shoots Carla Jean despite her pleas. Additionally, Chigurh ruthlessly kills anyone to accomplish his task more efficiently. For example, Chigurh kills a deputy and a bystander, Bill Wyrick, for the sole purpose of stealing their cars. After killing the innocent man with the cattle gun, Chigurh ... • 9. Animal Slaughtering Is The Killing Of Animals Animal slaughtering is the killing of animals; most of them domestic, and mainly for the purpose of human consumption. Many different types of animal slaughtering methods have been created such as; carbon dioxide, inert gas hypoxia, captive bolt pistol, gunshot, exsanguination, and many other that are not regulated. Such varying methods have evolved since the beginning of times, but with the increasing rates of the human population a faster way of slaughtering needed to be created in order to keep up. The question here is, have we, in our attempt to provide for the many, forgotten about ethical ways to kill those that are gifting us with their life? The problem we need to understand here is that many of these regulated methods are not ethical and cause suffering to the dying animal. Whether it causes them "pain and distress even at low concentrations" due to the carbon dioxide, "broken bones" due to shackling, "massive damage to the skull and a shockwave which stuns the brain" due to captive bolt pistol, or a slow and painful death if their "sticking wound is inaccurately placed" this methods need to be either reevaluated or vanished. It is not fair for animals to suffer and undergo horrible deaths just to satiate our hunger. When did we start forgetting how to take care of that that give us life? When did we start killing without mercy for the sake of our people? When did we forget to care for the minority in order to benefit the majority? According to historian ... The enormous mansion of moon like concrete lost in the solitude of the desert trembled down to its foundations with the first attack. But Erendira and her grandmother were used to the risks of the wild nature there, and in the bathroom decorated with a series of peacocks and childish mosaics of Roman baths they scarcely paid any attention to the wind. The grandmother, naked and huge in the marble tub, looked like a handsome white whale. The granddaughter had just turned fourteen and was languid, soft–boned, and too meek for her age. • 11. Old Men Fidelity Adaptation between literary and visual media frequently involves the problematic notion of 'fidelity', or the degree of faithfulness with which a preceding work is reproduced. Conspicuous debates have been spouted among various scholars and critics concerning this prominent issue. In the screen adaptation of No Country for Old Men, filmmakers Joel and Ethan Coen utilize an audio– visual sign system of film in order to convey a new level of symbolism within the diegesis. As a result, the issue of 'fidelity discourse' is raised due to the elision of key dialogue from Cormac McCarthy's precursor text. A variety of approaches have been proposed by academics in order to judge the notion of fidelity with regard to No Country for Old Men. In an interview ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Identical to the exchange with the gas station owner, Chigurh's coin toss proposition to Carla Jean is consistent in the novel and the film. McCarthy's dialogue between Chigurh and Carla Jean is lengthier, more shrewd yet cognizant in the novel when compared to the film. In the context of this scene, it can be argued that further development of Carla Jean's character could significantly impact the viewer's overall understanding of the dynamic between her and Chigurh. Thus, the Coens have deliberately elided dialogue in this scene to assert Chigurh's recurring cycle of ruthless degradation of his victims. Carla Jean's response to Chigurh's coin toss proposal is significantly different in both the novel and the film. Consequently, a new symbolic meaning is developed amid the interaction. In the novel, Carla Jean calls 'tails' however due to misfortune, the result is 'heads'. In contrast to the novel, the film has elided Carla Jean's acceptance of the toss. In the novel, McCarthy's Carla Jean appears to be powerless and easily willing to accept her fate. However in the film, the character is approached in a contrasting manner where the Coens have moulded her into a self–reliant, assertive woman. In her final act of defiance, she simply states that she does not have to listen to Chigurh's coin philosophy, and in doing so, she denies Chigurh of his incentive. Through Carla ... • 12. The Health Benefits Of Meat And Vegan Diets The dictionary definition of vegan is 1. A vegetarian who omits all animal products from their diet. 2. A person who does not use any animal products, e.g. leather or wool. I'm aware that there are many different issues within the vegan topic but I'm going to try and touch on them all even if it's just a little bit within this essay. I'm hoping to find out the truth behind what actually happens in the meat industry especially with animal cruelty. I'm also hoping to find out what the meat and egg industry does to our atmosphere as there are so many toxic gases that are by–products of this. I'm going to be comparing the health benefits and downsides to both meat and vegan diets and hopefully help someone better their life. Most people who eat meat are very healthy, in fact almost everyone can live a normal healthy life eating meat on a daily basis. But there are so many health risks when it comes to eating meat in almost every meal that most people don't even know existed. Meat has all the good nutrients in it like protein as well as vitamins a, b, c, d and k but it also has so much bad things in it that can harm the human body, like saturated fats and cholesterol. But those bad things are only the start of the horror that comes with eating meat. An overload of iron which is abundant in red meat can threaten your heart, and sodium and nitrates from processed meats make matters even worse. • 14. Temple Grandin Ethics Essay Recently in one of my English classes we begin to study the importance of eating meat and treating animals. We started off with articles of different meanings but then we began to watch a movie named Temple Grandin which really caught my attention. Temple Grandin was very different than her fellow classmates and got made fun of constantly. She had, as the doctors said, Autism. Although she had a different type of Autism she still did what she wanted to do. Later in the movie she began to do some research and discovers something that she never saw before and what caught my attention. Cattle, as she saw, were "mooing" because of what seems that something is scaring them away from the farmers before being slaughtered. As she would say, "Nature is cruel but we don't have to be". She then created a system that made the cattle comfortable before being slaughtered. If they are being killed for us then let's treat them with respect and use Temple Grandin system all over the world. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... With many organizations out there against animal agriculture such as the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) and People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) there has been a constant push to find the most humane act of livestock harvest as possible while still maintaining excellent meat quality. Currently, there are four acceptable methods: chemical (Carbon Dioxide – CO2), mechanical (captive bolt), mechanical (gunshot), and electrical (electrical current). Currently, all four methods are approved for the slaughter of swine. None, however, are ideal and all have advantages and disadvantages in pork quality effects which leaves it up for discussion of which is the best system to use. Theme Of Fate In No Country For Old Men Fate or Free Will in No Country for Old Men Throughout the entire movie No Country for Old Men there is a very strong theme of the juxtaposition of fate and free will. There is endless emphasis on the decisions that characters make, and how their decisions will ultimately affect their lives. All the characters are presented with situations where their choice plays a role in their fate. In No Country for Old Men, the fate of characters is determined by their actions and choices. The first scene of the movie is set in a police station. An officer who had just apprehended Anton Chigurh, says "No worries sir, I've got it under control" over the phone. Moments after, the police officer is dead on the floor after being strangled by Chigurh. Some people might claim that the death of this officer was predetermined and that there was nothing he could do to prevent himself from coming across a psychopathic killer like Anton Chigurh. However, his choice to pursue a career as a police officer put him at a greater risk. It is important to realize that his choices brought him to his death. In the scene of the movie, the police officer also has his back towards Chigurh who is sitting on a bench with no restraints other than his handcuffs. • 18. Pros And Cons Of Mealtime Dilemma Mealtime Dilemma A study done by Vegetarian Times has shown that 3.2 percent, or 7.3 million US adults follow a vegetarian diet (Editors). The main reasons that people have chosen the vegetarian lifestyle are due to health, the environment, and their own personal morality. When it comes to living a healthy lifestyle, it is fairly well known that proteins, iron, and vitamins are necessary to digestive system health. For many people, meat is the go to answer to get these things. However, meat is not necessary to a balanced meal if these things are consumed on a regular basis. Other sources that have an abundance of these things include leafy greens, legumes, and natural grains. The American Dietetic Association admits that "Vegetarian diets are often associated with a number of health advantages, including lower blood cholesterol levels, lower risk of heart disease, lower blood pressure levels, and lower risk of hypertension and type 2 diabetes. Vegetarians tend to have a lower body mass index (BMI) and lower overall cancer rates." (American). This evidence supports the decision of becoming a vegetarian as many of the health issues in the United States revolve around these issues. Eating meat has a large negative effect on the environment. When it comes to deforestation, the Livestock, Environment and Development (LEAD) Initiative says that as livestock production increases, the mass clearing of trees is also increased. It is said that 20% of the world's pastures and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 19. Taking a Look at Vegetarianism Essay Vegetarianism A vegetarian is defined as someone who does not participate in the consumption of poultry, red meat, seafood, or the flesh of another animal. Unlike vegans, vegetarians still will have dairy products though. There is much debate over this type of diet amongst people, as it is not the norm. Proponents of a meat–based diet sometimes claim that vegetarian diets are not healthy and lack the necessary nutrients a person needs to survive, which is in fact a myth. Additionally, since a meat– based diet is not the norm it is very difficult for people to imagine omitting meat entirely from their diets, mainly for convenience purposes. People who eat meat also think it tastes good so they are not willing to give up a food that is a part ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... To know that humans are using the largest amount of land for farming is ridiculous. This is something that is not a necessity, but rather a luxury–a luxury that is harming our earth in the process. Regarded as the most important greenhouse gas, carbon dioxide has the most significant direct–warming impact on global temperature because of the sheer volume of its emissions (Koneswaran & Nierenberg, 2008). Animal production is a huge contribution the high levels of greenhouse gases emitted into our environment. "The United Nations' Food and Agriculture Organization estimates that the meat industry is responsible for 18% of manmade greenhouse gas emissions" (Barry, Frattaroli, Laestadius, & Neff, 2013). That is an extremely large percentage to be attributed strictly by meat production. To further prove this, it is stated "40 calories of fossil fuel energy goes into producing every calorie of feed lot beef in the United States, whereas 2.2 calories of fossil fuel energy are needed to produce one calorie of plant–based protein" (Domonell, 2012). Fossil fuels contribute to greenhouse gases as well. Greenhouse gas emission is not an issue to take lightly. Generally, greenhouse gases are not dangerous, as they allow the planet to remain warm so we can live here. However, with the rates sky rocketing it is causing the earth's atmosphere to heat up tremendously, hence causing global warming. "If the earth's temperature rose nine degrees Fahrenheit, then all ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 20. Persuasive Essay About Horse Slaughter Would you kill your best friend after years of hard work together? I believe horse slaughter is a necessary evil due to many different reasons. The first reason is due to horses that cannot be used anymore due to health reasons. It would be wonderful to be able to afford a lame horse to sit on pasture all day, but that is not always an option. Nobody is going to buy a lame horse when they can buy a perfectly able horse for the same price. Where does a lame horse go? He goes to the auction and a kill buyer buys him. He gets sent across the US border into Canada or Mexico to be slaughtered. He has to suffer through the long trailer ride in horrendous conditions to the slaughter plant. Then, he arrives at the slaughter plant. They open the trailer doors and he gets trampled by other horses trying to get off. Now, he is injured and limps out of the trailer. All the horses are scared and they are rounded into a pen. They are in the pen and get a chained ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I own one and take care of her every day, but I also understand what goes on behind the scenes. I know that not every horse can have a loving owner. She was born as a colorless paint which means that she was supposed to be born with two or more colors but she was born with only one color. Her breeder was upset and did not take care of her. She was finally rescued four years later due to being severely malnourished and beaten. I found her six years later and she was still malnourished. Now, she suffers with everyday joint issues and pain because of what she went through. I almost wish they would have sent her off to slaughter for she would not have had to suffer. • 21. Persuasive Essay On Horse Slaughter When you think of horses, you might think of them as one of the symbols of the United States. You might think of a founding father riding into the sunset on his faithful mount. According to an article written by Brandon Gaille, 80% of American voters are against horse slaughter. But, I want you to consider what would happen if the US allowed horse slaughter back into its borders again. Could you imagine walking into a steakhouse and ordering a horse steak? American horses are being sent into other countries to be inhumanely slaughtered for their meat, and the US is not reaping any benefits from this process. Today, I invite you to listen about why horse slaughter is needed in the US, what causes the need for humane horse slaughter, and why horse slaughter is the solution to this problem. According to an article written by Brandon Gaille, approximately 144,000 horses were sent to Mexico or Canada to be inhumanely slaughtered in 2013. That's an extreme amount of America's horses being sent across the border to be inhumanely slaughtered. Horses being sent across the border often suffer during the trailer ride. These slaughter trailers are very dangerous in the fact that they are crammed full of sick horses, and there is often no food or water for long periods of time. If the US brought slaughter back, the animals would be humanely slaughtered and would not have to be transported inhumanely for long distances.According to The Horse Slaughter Conundrum, 44% of these horses are ... • 22. Torture In Medieval Prisons The Veg Pledge Everything is pitch black. I am pressed up hard against my peers in this moving enclosure and have been for what feels like a lifetime. I can hardly breathe and the heat is almost unbearable. The stench of death is penetrating, filling me entirely. Suddenly, light pours from outside blinding me, I am shoved and kicked by men, who maneuver me out of my previous prison. I realise that I am free, and begin to run forward, only to collapse as my legs and lungs cannot cope after standing for so long. I am herded into yet another dark and crowded enclosure with my peers, my heart begins to race with panic, and I try to resist, squealing and thrashing around. The cruel men from earlier reappear and poke me with what I assume is a stick, but it sends shockwaves through me, rendering me unable to move. Little did I know that that would be the last time I would move. Little did I know that my death could contribute to the destruction of a planet. You are probably thinking, 'What is this? Some cruel form of torture in a medieval prison?' I hate to tell you, no, it is not. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Animals are as capable of complex intelligence as humans are; crows are known to create hooks out of wires, squirrels fake hiding nuts when they know they are being watched, and chimpanzees have proven to have better short term memory than humans do. • 23. Horse Slaughter Persuasive Essay There are 9.2 million tame horses and an additional 47,329 wild horses in the United States, while only 2 million people own horses (Moss; "Horses in the United States"). With that being said, it's safe to say that the United States has a surplus of horses. One of the most controversial solutions for the unwanted horses is slaughter. Horse slaughter has been around for decades, but due to changes in societal views, the topic has ignited controversy. In today's society, horses are being viewed as companion animals rather than livestock. The problem is that legally, horses are considered livestock and the laws for the treatment of companion animals versus livestock are very different (Winegar, "The Horse Slaughter Debate: Solving the Puzzle"). ... They are also trying to spread the word about ways to get the full horse experience, without taking on the complete financial and physical responsibilities of owning a horse. Some of these experiences include leasing, volunteering, attending shows, local 4–H Horse and Pony Club events, or fostering rescue horses (Winegar, "The Horse Slaughter Debate: Solving the Puzzle") According to PETA, "Horses are part of our heritage and don't deserve to be packed on trucks and cruelly transported to slaughter and strung up in front of other terrified and dying animals, the kindest options for other surplus horses is a rescue organization, sanctuaries with loving guardians" (Winegar, "The Horse Slaughter Debate: A Two–Sided ... • 24. Anton Chigurh In The Film : No Country For Old Men In the film, No Country for Old Men, fate has hired a hitman. The first time the viewers of this film are introduced to Anton Chigurh, he is wearing all black clothing and has long black hair. The lighting is only showing half of his face reviling that he is a sinister man with no emotion and filled with evil. This is contrast to the prominent tan colors the viewer sees suggesting that Anton is not from the setting. The first time the viewer learns Anton name is when Carson Wells walks into the office in the high rise. Anton is an English name which reminds the viewer that he is out of place in Texas. Anton back ground remains a mystery throughout the film but the principles that he follows become very clear by the end of the film. The principles that Anton Chigurh follows are demonstrated by the interaction he has with people in the film, No Country for Old Men. In the hospital scene when Carson Wells shows up and talks to Llewelyn Moss, Carson refers to Anton saying "He's a peculiar man. You might even say he has principles. Principles that transcend money or drugs or anything like that." This is ironic because when Carson meets Anton at the hotel, he tries to negotiate with Anton to save his life by offering him money. Carson says "Take you to an ATM. There's 14 grands in it. Everybody just walks away." Like Carson predicted, Anton doesn't care about the bribe. Rabbits are the chosen test subject because they have very poor tear ducts so they cannot wash the substance away. Next is the skin irritancy test which involves shaving the fur off animals and applying the test substance to their skin. The skin is observed for signs of irritation. The third test is toxicity tests. In this test, substances are fed to the animal, and they are observed for signs of poisoning. The test may last several days causing the animals to tolerate extreme suffering. The animals that actually survive the test are killed at the end for autopsy. Many people believe that animals are necessary for testing. However, with the highly advanced technology we have available today, there are several other options. First of all, there is no reason why manufactured need to use any new substances because there are over 8,000 ingredients which have already been established as safe. The law requires new ingredients to be safety tested before they are introduced to the public. Animals may be the easy answer, but they do not need to be the only answer. Several alternatives include testing on reconstructed human skin, using computer modeling, and enlisting human volunteers. Besides, human volunteers are often more reliable to test products for human use rather than using a different species with a different biology. These innocent animals are slaughtered for our taste enjoyment and fashion. Pigs, cows, and chickens are being treated inadequate living conditions slaughterhouses. Instead of animals, they are treated like property and objects. People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals exclaims, "On today's factory farms, animals are crammed by the thousands into filthy, windowless sheds and stuffed into wire cages, metal crates, and other torturous devices. These animals will never raise their families, root around in the soil, build nests, or do anything that is natural and important to them. The employs are not responsible with the animals." Famous brands, like Tyson spend such little money on what the animals are raised in that tons of the animals die before they make it to their slaughter day. Animal Cruelty in Slaughter Houses Essay Draft 2 What are currently the poor conditions for animals in the American slaughterhouses, what are the causes of these conditions, and what are the best methods for preventing slaughterhouse cruelty? The conditions for animals in modern slaughterhouses are unsanitary and violent. The lack of rules and regulations cause animals to be treated poorly because this industry is focused on mass production and profit rather than finding a more humane alternative to run the meat packing business. The most effective method to stop this cruelty is to learn about where meat comes from, start supporting the organic and family farms which will ultimately lead to the reducing the amount of animals that have to suffer. Some animals are hung up side down by their back legs and move through the processing line where their necks will be cut one by one (Dugan). "For most humans, especially for those in modern urban and suburban communities, the most direct form or contact with non–human animals is at meal time: we eat them. This simple fact is the key to what each one of us can do about changing these attitudes. The use and abuse of animals raised for food far exceeds, in sheer numbers of animals affected, any other kind of mistreatment" (Coats). The most effective method to stop this cruelty is to learn about where the meat comes from, by supporting the organic and family farms which will ultimately lead to the reducing the amount of animals that have to suffer (PETA).
